Just when you thought we run out of them, we're proud to introduce the next wunderkind of the Berlin techno-/house scene: Hannes Fischer was born in Thüringen, raised in Baden-Württemberg and finally moved to the capitol of club culture. Here he caught attention in no time with unofficial remixes for Adele, Bon Iver and Lana Del Rey. His remix of "Down On Your Own" by Dems sports now more than half a milion views on Youtube. It didn't take long therefore until an official remix request for Lana Del Rey's "Summertime Sadness" dropped in. As much fun as it is for Fischer to do reworks of existing tracks, as eager one now awaits his own original material. And you can be assured: he has accumulated quite a lot.His 12inch for the "Based On Misunderstanding" series on Sonar Kollektiv is a stroke of genius in every sense. With "Deep Field" he connects the dots between deepest house and ethereous space boogie somewhere along the reference points of John Daly and Space Dimension Controller. Its electrifying bass line and a Balearic guitar break make "Mystic Mountain" catch the spirit of the times right on. With all the ideas stuck in this single track others would have filled a whole album.
Obviously Fischer will be flooded with remix inquires over the next few months. Which will hopefully still leave him with enough time to start working on his debut album. Who doesn't want more of this!

Legendary producer Ian Pooley has partnered up with up and coming producer Spencer Parker to create a very dynamic duo. We have been trying to work with Spencer and Ian for quite some time and now we get both of them on one.

Hiem, who created the stunning '2.A.M' single with the Human League's Phil Oakey earlier this year on Nang, returns with another collaboration of equal measure, this time with the UK's one and only Roots Manuva.Hiem, aka Nick "Nico" Eastwood and David "Bozz" Boswell come from Sheffield's rich musical heritage. Bozz once fronted the 'chart bothering' outfit called All Seeing I back in the the 90's, a supergroup of sorts that included Jarvis Cocker and Babybird to name a few. The Guardian recently called Hiem 'A rum mix of lissom disco, acid northern observation a la John Cooper Clarke, brutal Sheff-tronics and glittering crystalline electro'.

Danny Wolfers wears many hats: Jackmaster Corky, Trackman Lafonte & Bonquiqui, Legowelt... Nacho Patrol is Danny's travels towards African Space travel. Where earlier Nacho Patrol records spent time exploring cosmic Ethiopia, this current incarnation adds a more sci-fi element to the mix, taking influences from Chicago house to Sun City Girls, this is purely original sounds from one of the best producers out there.

It might sound like an empty phrase, but when Oliver Koletzki founded Stil vor Talent in 2005, he certainly didn't anticipate where his label would be today. Now - six years and over sixty releases later - Stil vor Talent can look back at many magnificent moments in the label's history.

For release number 004 Maria Colors relies on a mixture of new and already established artists on the label. Taron-Trekka return to the imprint with a dark and dubby dancefloor slammer from the borderland of House and Techno. In contrast, Drei Farben House, who has also been featured on Maria Colors before, emphasises the warm and light side of House music with his Soul- and Popinfluenced track - Canvas'. Finally, YNK is a new introduction to the label. With releases on Tenderpark already under his belt, the young artist comes up with a cool and funky electronic Hip- Hop track. Altogether, these three tracks wonderfully illustrate the various aspects of Maria Colors' sound.

Zaf Zafsmusic is a disco weasel of the highest order. He has, by his own admission, got it bad-losing sleep and suffering physical maladies from the want of certain must-have pieces of stamped vinyl. Fortunately, he also has excellent taste and a lengthy history of wheeling and dealing with other similarly afflicted individuals, a history that has allowed him to sift the wheat from the crap, err, chaff, as it were. As a long-time staffer of the notorious Reckless Records on Berwick Street, a hotbed of vinyl commerce in the Soho section of London, these skills were no doubt put to the test on a daily basis when dealing with the continuous influx of hustlers hoping to offload their by-and-large worthless wax at the shop. Faced with this parade of the common and shoddy, it takes a keen eye to single out the precious stones buried in the seemingly endless expanse of decent-but-ordinary (not to mention the middling-to-awful) records that comprise most collections. Our stalwart selector has also travelled an even more treacherous terrain: the world of online sellers. Without recounting any gory digital battle stories, suffice it to say that the online world inhabited by some vinyl obsessives is a rather scary place. It is without any sarcasm that I offer my sincere gratitude to Zaf for the yeoman's work he has put in discovering the tunes herein. So, while I still encourage all neophyte disco enthusiasts to get themselves a firm grounding in the classics before attempting to swim in the uncharted waters of small-label, independent releases, if you are ready to do so then Zaf is your man. After the well-received "Treats Vol.4", Retreat closes its 2012 chapter with a fantastic 4-tracker from House maestro Iron Curtis! Following his accomplished debut album on Mirau, "Glazing " is a highly versatile EP which sees the producer breaking new ground while staying true to his inimitable style. Expect the unexpected as Iron Curtis stretches House music far beyond its known boundaries with the help of Psychedelia, Dubstep and Hip-Hop! "Glazing" kick things off with a swinging beat, a cowbell and one of those square bass punch that has "Chicago" all over it. But appearances can be deceiving as a drunk bassline emerges from the background with snappy vocals and hidden chords. The track builds steadily for almost 3 minutes before a very dramatic break: the wonky bassline takes center stage, majestic chords rise from
every side and before you know it, your skin starts to crawl as you witness once again another euphoric "House" experience. You lose control as the beat comes back with extra ride cymbals which take you on a dancing frenzy. Subtle arpeggios float from left to right and vice-versa as "Glazing" takes you higher and higher. It finally eases down after 5 minutes: the bassline is reduced, the beat stripped down to its essentials and you're gently taken to the tracks's final
stop.

T.Williams sits near the forefront of a group of producers twisting elements of grime and funky into a rough-edged strain of UK house.

His Rinse:21 mix, takes the form of an hour long, club-centred set. It begins slow and soulful, before slowly escalating through several different phases. A feeling of acceleration characterises the mix's first third, before Williams sinks into shimmering, loop-driven peaktime house for its middle section. It's around this point that the presence of grime - the genre that T.Williams first made his name in - begins to make itself felt.

Grime and funky are reprised during the mix's final third — a potent reminder of the pressure that still lurks behind the often smoother surfaces of Williams' peaktime selection. A series of ruff- neck grime/house hybrids follow, bringing the mix to a close in an exhilarating and playful blur of aggression and synthetic texture — and in doing so, hark neatly backward to Williams' own roots, and those of Rinse FM itself.

IN THE FOREST PT. 2 (KENNY DOPE MIXES & EDITS) [SPECIAL DOUBLE PACK] (2 x 7")

Joe Bataan has always been a favourite of Jazzanova. His unique blend of latin, soul, funk and jazz is an inspiration, not only for Jazzanova. Bataan was born in 1942 to a Filippino dad and Afroamerican mother in Spanish Harlem, New York. In this vibrant melting pot of vast cultural influences he soon developped his own style and became one of the biggest star of the booming boogaloo scene. With his hits for the imprint, he helped Fania Records to become the biggest Latin label by the late 1960's and founded Salsoul Records in 1974, which he later sold to the Carye brothers. In 1982, after recording 10 albums and numerous singles, he retreated from his music career. Only in 2005 he came back with an new album and is touring since then on a regular basis. Throughout this all, Bataan's signature song has remained one of his earliest: 'Ordinary Guy,' first recorded back in 1966. An original composition, the song bespeaks Bataan's around-the-way demeanor and self-perception. For all his career highs and lows, he's remained, at the core, just an ordinary joe: 'It's been my moniker for a long time. You know, hey, I'm an ordinary guy. Don't expect anything else. I mean, that's me, and I've always been that way.' He recorded at least four versions of it over the years and is also a great entry into appreciating how he innovated the whole Latin Soul genre. The rework by Jazzanova, with newly recorded vocals by now 70-yeras old Bataan, is much more than just an update of this timeless classic. The swining back groove is a modern interpretation of 60's soul/funk that takes you back to the golden days of Motown, Stax and Fania. The fantastic drum break in the middle of the track and the kinky rhythm guitar licks as well as the lively bass (provided by Jazzanova live band members Arne Jansen and Paul Kleber) are so right on the money that probably even Booker T. & The M.G.'s wouldn't have done a better job.

Crazy P return with one of the highlights from the 'When We On' album. 'Heartbreaker' is the sound of a band at the top of it's game, amazing musicians showing the disco pretenders how its done. The track came out of one of their many jam sessions and moves along on subtle changes of the drums, bass, guitars and keys that only a band with an intimate knowledge of themselves and the dancefloor can employ. To be given these kinds of parts for a remix must be a joy for any producer and the lucky pair on remix duties are Mark E and Huxley
We've been big fans of Mark E since he appeared on the scene with his amazing Womack and Womack edit and he's played 2020Vision parties for us where he always proves he's a master of rocking the party without having to compromise his deep and classic style. His remix is deep, moody and hypnotic and no doubt has already been doing the business in his sets, it's a great alternative to the summery sounds of the original.

Huxley has already appeared on 2020 with the 'Out Of The Box EP' and it's good to have him back, his mix is another of his excellent house/garage fusions. He keeps a lot of the parts that makes the original so addictive, but flips it into a Huxley club track with his trademark drums and bass.

124 Recordings introduce their second release,the 'Underground Frequencies' EP,showcasing tracks from four producers based in France,Denmark,Israel and Russia.First up is a a track that has been getting a lot of attention on promo,two guy's from Aarhus Denmark with a passion for true house music,the 2 Bit Crew's 'Just Cant Seem'.Taking a sound heavily influenced by the Underground House music/Garage sound of the 90's,this is a bumping groove with a driving bassline and hatswith a simple female vocal sample that will stick in your brain.The second track takes things deeper with Bastien Carrara aka LGG with 'Let Me',smooth Rhodes chords with a 'love Sensation' sample underpinned by raw beats and sub-bass. On the second side things get a little tougher.The third track is from a producer who has had many releases already on labels such as Balance Alliance,Seven Music and Undertones,Konstantyn Isaev,better known as Volta Cab. His track 'What Is Underground' focuses primarily on a killer bassline,retro synth stabs and a cheeky hip-hop sample used to great effect.Finally is Haim Rosenhaft,a young producer from Israel with '1992',his homage consists of an old school organ sound with heavy kicks and snares influenced by the sound of label's like UMM and Cleveland City in the 90's.Again this will be a vinyl only release
