Red Axes have come a long way since the 2014's Ballad Of The Ice. Tel-Aviv, now a scene and sound that the duo were instrumental in putting on the map, has burst onto the world stage armed with limitless electronic bravado and the city's strong guitar music heritage. Now, the much loved duo return, sophomore album in tow on their own label Garzen Records.

Unique moments and significant experiences gleaned over the course of an exceptionally intense year left Dori Sadovnik and Niv Arzi with depths of inspiration for their new record. Throughout December 2016, the Axes worked in their Tel-Aviv studio, surrounded by their extended Garzen family - Abrão, Eylonzo Crotch, Gabriel Broid, Adi Bronicki, Thomass Jacksonn & Iñigo Vontier all feature - giving life to a new psychedelic cosmic adventure. The outcome, a 12 track album which invites listeners to The Beach Goths world.

Red Axes snake their way through genres and periods, clearing an unorthodox highway through conventions, nodding to the past, eyes on the future. Live drums, jangling guitars, fuzzed out synths and an all pervasive psychedelia emerge as the backbone of The Beach Goths. Opener Ride The Sus leads in with a nonchalant blues indebted bluster; Tarzan Blues and Relaxation (For Your Mind And Body) call halftime with a bow down to Dead Kennedys and Cramps era proto punk and rockabilly. While the Axes are quick to jam out exotic post-punk numbers, the land of The Beach Goths is a land of contrasts. The clubs are never far and the drum machines come out on prime time club ready chuggers Piper Work, Shir 1 and the album's first choice excerpt Tantram Power.
Dori and Niv's vocal chops feature heavily, standing out on the youthful, kaleidoscopic ballad Loosen and hippy trippy song What Is In Your Head.
Closing the album with a warm embrace, helped by Deaf Chonky's lead singer Adi Bronicki, on psychedelic ballad Into Your Arms.

The land of The Beach Goths is a land of contrasts.

French producer Jules Etienne reappears with a 3 track EP including a Jex Opolis remix on Barcelona's finest disco imprint Apersonal Music. Jules shows his most elaborated work to date evolving to a more band oriented production filled with plenty of live instruments and vocals as seen on "Free as a man" and "Dont want to talk about it". On the B side "Rhythm for the garden part I" is a mad ride driven by live percussions and a drum machine. Canadian producer Jex Opolis whos been releasing top stuff through his own Good Timin' label comes on board on the release remixing "Free as a man". Guilty pleasures all around.

Lay-Far presents Boorane - Thru Jazz To Mars EP. The project of respected Russian hip-hop beatmakers doing gritty and grainy house music the old-school way. Imagine if Peter Rock was born in Moscow and was producing house, inspired by the Soviet Space Program!

We are very excited to present you the new release on our label: Boorane - Thru Jazz to Mars EP!
Although it's the very first EP of the project, these guys can hardly be called newcomers. Boorane members already have the street credibility and style with the strong roots and skills in b-boying and djing, dating back to early 2000s, and can easily teach us a thing or two about the art of digging, beats programming, real swing and texture. With previous releases on King Underground Records, Boora is recognized as the godfather of Russian boom bap, no less.

Together with his good friend and long-time collaborator on all fronts Krane, they came up with this work of beauty and depth.

Soulful hip-hop beats meet heavily swung house, sophisticated techno and a nice slice of timeless electro, all based on obscure Soviet samples & excerpts from long-forgotten scientific movies and documentaries, chopped drum breaks and complex groovy programming - All created with the classic hip-hop set of tools: Akai MPC 3000 and E-Mu SP-1200.

On the metaphorical side of things Boorane is the clear reference to Buran - the legendary Soviet space program and the eponymous space shuttle! Beyond the mere name - the EP is loaded with sounds, related to the space exploration, including the shuttle engine start at the very beginning of this special musical journey, leading us to straight into space with a reassuring hip-hop beat.

Boorane's music has the capacity to work on so many levels. Being down to earth and clearly physical on the one hand, with the heavy grainy beats and gritty textures that are ready to shake the dancefloors, their music has an unmistakable timeless touch, yielding high aspirations and thoughts about space and time.

The vivid example is Find The Way which is a collaboration with the label boss Lay-Far - is a real pacifist manifesto - with its reassuring thoughts about the future of the world - Love has got to find the way and step by step are the phrases effectively repeated as mantras throughout the track, making us believe the prospect is just inevitable!

Being influenced by the wide range of musicians, like Theo Parrish, Atjazz, Miles Davis, James Brown, Pete Rock, Dj Premier and notably Soviet jazz scene i.e. Mustafa Zade, Georgiy Garaniyan or Aleksey Kucenko, Boora and Krane find the way to make their deeply-rooted music instantly catchy and likeable, at the same time bringing something unique and refreshing to the scene.

After launching with a killer reissue of a private press gem from Morrison Kincannon, Spacetalk presents its' first compilation: a superb selection of soul, disco and boogie obscurities curated by noted Parisian crate-digger and DJ Jeremy Underground. Beauty has its' origins in a chance encounter between Jeremy and Spacetalk co-founder and Psychemagik Danny McLewin at Maceo's, Glastonbury's renowned backstage bar. Having completed his regular festival set - keeping the dancefloor moving with his more familiar house and U.S garage sound - Jeremy was treating the Maceo's crowd to a tasty selection of soul, disco and boogie obscurities. Danny was impressed, introduced himself to the My Love Is Underground label founder, and several hours later the duo had hatched a plan for Spacetalk's first compilation. Jeremy Underground is well regarded within the record collecting community, and counts a number of high-profile diggers' amongst his friends. He famously played alongside Red Greg at Floating Points' first You're A Melody party at Plastic People back in 2013, the four-hour recording of which is still available on the Eglo website. The Parisian is also no stranger to putting together high quality compilations, having previously mined his house collection for two volumes of My Love Is Underground on Favorite Recordings. Beauty, though, is the first collection to showcase the depth and variety of his record collection. Stuffed full of rare, hard-to- find and little-known gems, it confirms the Frenchman's status as one of Europe's most open-minded record collectors. Amongst its' 15 tracks you'll find the Creative Arts Ensemble's spiritual soul-jazz gem Unity', the samba sunshine of Leila Pinheiro, the folksy, Latin-tinged breeziness of Ron Rinadli's Mexican Summer', and the dewy-eyed, late night soul of Nu-Cleus's ridiculously hard-to-find Needing A Woman'. The beating heart of the compilation, though, is a selection of heady, heartwarming cuts that blur the boundaries between Philly soul, disco, jazz-funk and boogie. These include the sparkling, synth-laden 1981 boogie of Do Your Dance' by Shades Of Love (whose members included future '80s soul/disco star Meli'sa Morgan), the jazz-funk inspired library grooves of Christer Norden's Lay Back', and the smooth, post-boogie soul of Richardi Mac's superb Told You So'. Oh, and Let Love Flow' by Jamaican singer Sonya Spence, a deliciously sweet and loved-up disco-soul shuffler infused with the distinctive swing of the Caribbean. Chris Knight aka Cervo is an up and coming producer hailing from Manchester. His EP is exploring the depths of afro and house.

This year we have reached our long term goal as a label which was to expand our releases into the wax department. We feel like we've done a good job bringing upcoming and original local talent to the surface so far and it is only fitting that our first vinyl release is done by the Icelandic duo David & Hjalti. The duo has been busy with the production since their arrival from Manchester and have played a number of great live sets underlining their skills as producers. We feel that this release is the high standard we set ourselves before going vinyl and that this is just a small first step in a fruitful beginning for the producers David & Hjalti.

For the fourth Outplay vinyl release we welcome Laurence Guy to the family and have Brame & Hamo on remix duties.

It's paired with two originals by Outplay's own Junktion and Daniel Leseman.Laurence delivers a wonderful synth driven opener with 'Strings Attached. While Junktion brings his familiar grooves with the jazzy 'Breakfast at Midnight', Brame & Hamo flip it into a dubby stomper to heat up the floors.Daniel Leseman gets to round off the EP with his warm and melodic 'On My Mind'.

A1/ Guehi Jean Pantalon Craqué Guéhi Jean is a key figure of Ivorian music and many of his records mixing funk, jazz and afrobeat are sought after nowadays. Having left Africa in order to make it in France, he recorded this digital afrobeat hit in Paris, then went back to his native country where he died in 2012. Despite his talent, Guéhi Jean didn't get the recognition he deserved. A2/ Michel Conte & Cie Magoshan A disco anthem composed for Quebec cultists wearing flares, or the main theme from an obscure series Anyway it is time to acclaim Magoshan's pulsing come back on the dancefloo ! B1/ Jean-Michel Gascuel Dominus This French composer who collaborated with Pierre Schaeffer was also a great lyricist working for the likes of Vivian Vee or Suzy Andrews, and a fashion designer. With its Latin touch, this track is a little UFO standing out of the rest of his French productions, so let us be blessed by Dominus Domine Dominarum. B2/Michel Robidoux les Planètes This track by composer Michel Robidoux featured on a kidisk with a book called Visitons les Planètes avec Goldorak' and was released in Canada in 1980. This incredible space jam was chosen as a macaroon for this new EP - our tribute to an amazing composer who wrote more than 325 songs and even collaborated with Leonard Cohen.

IN HIS POSSESSIONS WE DISCOVERED A PLASTIC BOX IN-SCRIBED WITH THE ABOVE INITIALS AND A FLAT BLACK DISC STAMPED WITH THE CODE ST005. UNDER INTERROGATION, THE SUBJECT TOLD US THAT THE BOX WAS A DRUM MACHINE'. IT HAD BEEN GIFTED TO HIM BY HIS GRANDFATHER, WHO WENT BY THE NAME JOOP'. HE ADDED THAT MUSIC CREATED USING THIS DEVICE HAD BEEN ETCHED INTO THE SURFACE OF THE BLACK DISC.

HAVING FOUND A SUITABLE MACHINE TO EXTRACT THE MUSIC FROM WITHIN THE GROOVES, WE WERE ASTONISHED BY WHAT WE HEARD. THERE WERE SIX COMPOSITIONS ON WHICH THE SUBJECT'S FAMILY DRUM MACHINE' WAS PROMINENTLY FEATURED, REPLICATING PROGRAMMED ELECTRONIC RHYTHMS THAT SOUNDED ALIEN IN ORIGIN.

THE WARM AND LOOSE FEEL OF THESE PERCUSSIVE ELEMENTS WAS FURTHER ENHANCED BY THE SUBJECT'S CHOICE OF ACCOMPANYING ELECTRONIC MUSICAL FEATURES. THESE FRE-QUENTLY CAUGHT OUR EAR AND ENHANCED OUR COLLECTIVE MOOD. THESE VARIOUSLY SOUNDED INTERGALACTIC, LOVED-UP, DREAMY, OTHERWORLDLY AND SOOTHING. ONE OF OUR COLLEAGUES, WITHIN EARSHOT, SPONTANEOUSLY STARTED DANCING.

The second project from NYC label HOMAGE comes from little known French producer extraordinaire, Chevals - who until this point, has self-released only a handful of songs. * 2016 saw KAMODA garner global attention with 'The Clay EP' Dropping on revered NYC Imprint, Mister Saturday Night. That killer cut, Physical Graffiti, was a glimpse of what's to come. Affiliated with Berlin's Dirt Crew Recordings, Mall Grab's Steel City Dance Discs and Black Acre - Jun has caught the attention of the dance floor elite with his playful, yet experimental grooves. This release sees the return to BLACK ACRE, with 'THE DISTORTED HAUNTED BALLROOM EP' nodding towards his previous video-game soundtrack productions, while showcasing the club ready oddities with which he is synonymous - infectious and immaculately produced. Undeniably an ideal fit for forward-thinking Bristol based imprint, BLACK ACRE, who celebrate their decade in the game this year. Rejecting genre constraints, BLACK ACRE focuses on championing talented artists pushing boundaries - working with the likes of Romare, Clap! Clap! Rocks FOE, Connie Constance, Prayer and more across recent years.

Byron the Aquarius fires up the MPC for a journey into the stratosphere, bringing the heat for Ele Records 3rdedition with "Planet Rock", a jazz infected keyboard jam with chopped hip hop samples echoing into the cosmos.
Cozy Bear follows with "Nudi Riddim" a delectable mix
of African percussion, jazz samples and acidic basslines.
On the B side we find more hip hop infused methodology, with Glenn Davis digging into Salsoul's back catalogue with his huge summer anthem "Holdin On". Finally, Unknown Artist is back on Ele following on from the huge anthem Ru$h. This time it's back to the MPC with a Daft Punk style 90's disco banger "Fade (Never Know)".

Fashion Flesh is the solo-output moniker of John Talaga, based in Bay City, USA, whose music first came to our attention back in 2016 with the release of an excellent 7-inch on Detroit's Est. '83 Records. He should have been in the Radiophonic Workshop, but he was in the wrong place, wrong decade. Instead, 'Withdrawn' comes as his first full-length album and makes up for the perfect introduction to Talaga's synthesis of original and plasticized melodic collages, birthed from the guts of hand built exotic electronics and various audio devices — built from one's own design and heavily modified beyond audible recognition or return. From torn memories of pleasant dreams to plasticine free jazz sculptures, wavey electro cuts squealing like rubber tyres and pop hallucinations, Fashion Flesh highlights the beauty of confusion and anxiety throughout the breathing and illusive meanderings of his tape manipulations and hard copy cut-ups.

For the third set of Excursions, we're letting off some tasty Turkish flavours. Darkhouse Family presents 'An Ottoman Excursion'. Halal Cool J (aka Don Leisure of Darkhouse Family) has blessed us with four cheeky edits, crafted with care, and guaranteed to create dancefloor flames. A few choice selectors have been playing these for a while (such as Lefto and Gaslamp Killer, on Boiler Room), but this is the first time these tracks have been released into the public domain.

In Don's words: "I got into Turkish music around about 2006 when Egon (ex-Stones Throw) put out a Turkish Funk podcast showcasing artists like Baris Manco, Erkin Koray & Selda. The musical rabbit hole led me to discover re-releases on labels like Finders Keepers, and I've been hooked ever since. It's hard to find original pressings of Turkish music in the UK, so when my cousin landed a job in Istanbul, it was the perfect opportunity to make a bunch of trips there, armed with a portable turntable, hunting for dusty records. I made these tracks a few years ago now, but they've found a perfect home now with Excursions."

For 'An Ottoman Excursion' we head straight in with the neck-snapping drums and epic riffs of 'Visne Nektari', before the synth-led 'Derbent's Groove' breezes triumphantly into motion. For the flip, we nicely drop the pace a little to do the 'Turkish Duck Walk', before the humidity of the 'Fernebache Heat' raises up the tempo to close out the set. 4 chops. 8 minutes of Turkish Psych-Funk vibes. 45rpm 7" vinyl pressure. The Activ-Analog collective return under this name for the first time in 10 years with a blistering new EP on Lisbon's Assemble Music. Taken from group live jams which are mixed down and tweaked on the fly, these four tracks recall the explosive simplicity of Daniel Bell's output on Accelerate, both A-side tracks all whacked-out acid and basslines cut through by razor sharp hats and claps. The B-side sees the addition of the same woozy pads that defined their venerated Night Shift EPs from the late 90s, taking the mood far into the afterhours. Formed in Bermuda in 1968, The Invaders are responsible for what is arguably the most sought after piece of Island Funk in history, their lone long player, 1970s Spacing Out. His tracks have been remixed by luminaries as Nachtbraker, Jacob Korn, Roberto Rodriguez, HNNY, Juju & Jordash, OOFT or Ruf Dug... Kito & me met in Montenegro last summer at the amazing Southern Soul Festival through our friends Eddy Ramich & Lay-Far. We both played as part of the 4 days event & developed a deeper relationship.
Besides our obvious common musical grounds, we both became fathers nearly at the same time, him of Theo, me of Thea.
This became our red line in our exchanges remembers Phil with a grin on the face. Following his new fatherhood and an important HD crash which led to the loss of many musical works, Kito came back from Montenegro and sat down in his studio, starting from scratch, highly inspired. The 2 tracks you hear today are the results of these sessions of total freedom without prepared sound banks or samples. Kito & Phil took the time last autumn to let the tracks breathe and exchanged very naturally on their arrangements & mixdowns, till Kito finalised them in the silent snowy landscapes of the Russian country side in december.
