Matt Tolfrey's Leftroom Limited brings you Sam Russo's 'Losing Things', backed with a remix from Jack Dixon.
Sam Russo has had a long running relationship with the Leftroom label and his collaborative EP 'The Summer Soundtrack' with Huxley back in 2011 led to a string of further releases on the imprint, pushing Sam into the limelight and helping to spread his wings further afield releasing original work and remixes with the likes of OFF Recordings, Air London, 1trax and Fullbarr.
The release opens with the original version of 'Losing Things', employing raw shuffled drums, a bubbling sub bass hook and a processed spoken word vocal line as its driving force. The cut steadily blooms in such a state throughout its near seven and a half minute duration, subtly introducing tweaky acid licks and additional perc lines to fuel its energy. Stepping up next is Hotflush artist Jack Dixon reworking title track 'Losing Things'. Dixon veers the record in an entirely different direction, creating an ethereal atmosphere with flourishing bell chime melodies and a bulbous sub-bass. The track builds to a peak, where Dixon strips back the groove and puts its focus on drums, bass and vocal snippets.
Next we have 'Delivery', a low-slung house number with a stripped back vibe, crunchy 909 drums lead the way alongside a gritty saw-wave bass and more tripped out, delayed vocal lines. 'Mailbox format' follows, a perfect way to wind down the wax side of the release, Russo takes things deeper here with fluttering pads, a moody evolving bass hook and subtle manipulation on the synthesized elements creating a blossoming dynamic.

For its inaugural release, Spring Theory has tapped San Francisco producer Avalon Emerson for a three-track EP. It's called Church of SoMa--which, before you get any funny ideas about Huxlean wonder drugs, is actually a reference to San Francisco's industrial South of Market district, which has been an epicenter for dance music since time immemorial. The record pays homage to her long nights spent dancing and DJing in one particularly loved SoMa warehouse.

For the titular a-side, Emerson goes deeper than she did on "Pressure"/"Quoi!," her debut 12" on Icee Hot earlier this year. It's a restrained thumper that rides a thick bassline through a maze of echoing bongos, chiming electric piano riffs, and unexpected Brazilian tribal calls. The hook comes from Emerson herself, who delivers a vocal performance that's paradoxically upfront and delicate as it weaves through the rhythm. Swedish house producer HNNY provides the remix, which teases the samples to the surface for an extended and idiosyncratic departure into Brazilian funk music.
Flip the record over, and you'll get "Synagogue of SoMa," the 12"-length b-side. Here she plays with the elements of the original, stripping things down to make way for heavy bass tones, physically affecting kicks, and floating melodic touches. But don't be mislead, this is peak-time material for adventurous DJs looking to go beyond the ordinary.

Art Department's influential No.19 Music is back with a new single that is once again destined for big things. It comes from Mexican Louie Fresco, a producer who is no stranger to chart success given the quality of his past releases on labels like Defected and Mexa. His new single for the ever-on point No.19 (featuring vocals from

Luna) is the lead cut from his forthcoming debut album due early next year. It comes backed with a stunning remix from label bosses Art Department, their first mix in some time for the imprint and a real gem from the ever on-point production duo. Also offered up is an equally interesting effort from Eric Volta and that is sure to take the versatile young producer to the next level.

The first original 'Autophobia' is a super slo-mo, seriously emotive track with barely any beats. Instead it's an alluring meditation on mood and atmosphere that slowly percolates with a buried deep bassline, otherworldly effects and only the lightest dusting of percussion. Of course key to its success is the dulcet yet tortured sounding vocal of LUNA that drifts atop the whole thing. It's an intimate affair that eventually breaks out into some slightly more tumultuous drums in the final third and is one of the most tender tracks you are likely to hear this year.

Art Department's Black Sky remix re-imagines the track for the dancefloor. Vibrant production has tinkling piano keys standing out nice and loud as wobbling sub bass props the whole thing up and chunky kicks drive things forward. It's heart-breaking emo-house that also makes you want to dance and once again proves Art Department to be masters of their trade.

Then it's Ellum Audio and Lower East associate Eric Volta's turn to re-interpret the track. He does so with nice loose, organic sounding drums and frazzled synth lines and hides the original vocal in the spaces in between. It's a big bold track yet manages to retain its human emotion and nagging sense of loss.

Finally, 'My Ghost' closes out the EP in rich house fashion. Bug rubber kick drums, tortured tones that wave up and down the scale throughout and slightly ghoulish vocals make for a vampire disco styled track that sweeps you up and carries you along on kinked waves of rhythm.

With this EP No 19 suggest to us that dancefloors needn't be afraid of real emotion and honest lyrics, and for the way Louie Fresco and LUNA carry that off, it's hard to disagree.

Not brand new, but new to us. Seriously awesome disco edits from CITIZEN DRUNK (CITIZEN KANE and JEFF "THE DRUNK" OVERTON) on the A-side and Torino native JOSE MANUEL on the flip. Both tracks from an era of major NYC disco arrangements and feature orchestral lushness. Badass disco edits.

DeejayKul delivers two amazing reworks of an old classic, both versions on this 12" are a refreshing change of pace that reach a bit deeper than previous releases on Gold Fingers.
Trust us though, house doesn't get better than this.

After 20 years of experience, Gary Martin couldn't resist a 12' that is also the 50th release for Teknotika: a label from Detroit that didn't exactly stick with the game when it switched to the mp3 format. 'Basking In Blackness' is a composition of textured broken beat then classic four on the floor old school soul.'Synthotika' is what would happen if a synthasizer could take over an orchestra. A track inspired by Detroit peers no doubt. 'Every Bit As Beautiful' goes sensative deep house piano, a lil Latin percussion and soaring Eno-esque synths to top it off. The title is a bit sarcastic, let's face it, there is no life after techno!

Tis the season to remain anonymous it seems. The guessing games continue here with The Unknown Prankster. We can't tell you who it is, because that would render the artists chosen title useless. And he might be slightly miffed at. If it's even a he....

What you do need to know is that these two tight little magic numbers should not be missed! We'll leave you with the clips so you can make your own mind up..... needless to say, you might recognise one or two things here.

Claptone was one of the first names on the list of people we wanted to remix Romanthony. Amazingly, right at the beginning of the whole project he agreed. But for some reason or another, it just didn't work out. Each time we put together a new remix package, we would check and see if he was available and each time something meant it couldn't happen. Either the track didn't work for him or he was too busy. It looked for a while like we weren't going to get our man.

Finally, late last year, we sent him the Floorpiece acappella and that was it. Something clicked and he delivered this MONSTER of a remix.

Like Schatrax's "Mispent Years" or Inner City's "Ahnonghay", this is underground house music at its very best. Heavy garage beats, a dark'n'moody bassline and some killer keys underpin Romanthony's unmistakable story about his Dj-ing experience. Get ready Miami, Ibiza and beyond, this is a future anthem for sure.

Next up is Dogmatik main man Alex Arnout. Fresh from his killer 'One Nation' track with Tyree Cooper on One Records, the Circo Loco resident delivers a super deep bass-heavy mix filled with dubbed-out vocals and spacey arps. One for the afterhours...

Kevin McKay follows up his heavily-supported single on OFF Recordings with another peak-time stomper. In keeping with his previous remix on Romanthony's 'Trust', McKay takes Romanthony's vocal on a heavy-duty ride. This time the acid is replaced with cascading synths and heart-melting strings and the overall effect is like a Dixon mix on 4 Es. Serious stuff.

Finally, from the Glasgow Underground vaults, there is an unreleased mix from 1999 where Roman strips his original mix down to is essential components. Killer RAW house music.

Japan's BEATEN SPACE PROBE is back with another killer edit for GLENVIEW EDITS. Three sexy and stylish disco grooves: some recognizable, some a bit more obscure, but all extremely well done and guaranteed to get the party started. "LOVE", "LES FEMMES" and "L IS FOR LOVE". Dope! EDIT DISCO

This young producer just keeps on delivering the goods, over the course of a handful of amazing releases he has managed to carve out a sizeable niche with his trademark euphoric jams.
These new, expertly cut & pasted workouts, which recall classic Kenny Dope, but take the whole roughed up sample-house ethos to altogether more exciting places certainly don't disappoint

Max Graef has made the A-side especially for the Brandt Brauer Frick DJ-Kicks.

CAMP INC. are Cologne-based DJs, producers and acclaimed crazies Roland Kaiser Wilhelm and Sebastian Ingenhoff, founders of infamous tape label Camp Magnetics. Revered by local crowds, but feared by club technicians, the duo's live sets consists exclusively of hand-cranked hardware equipment spitting out wild Acid basslines, kicking synths and mad love. Their very first EP does not stray far away from that highly successful formula, featuring three delectable cuts that jump at the floor from all angles and raise even the laziest punter. An impressively idiosyncratic remix hails from fellow Cologne iconoclasts VON SPAR who create an alternate universe where the common laws of physics don't seem to apply - kosmische noise disco is where it's at. For a first time applicant, this release bears witness to the assured confidence of premiering label outfit LOW HANGING FRUIT, a venture of long time DJs Shumi and Marc Lansley aka Truffle Shuffle. No filler, all killer!

Gear appreciating Italian 'Giorgio Luceri' enters the SAFT dome with the machine driven 'Liger EP'. On the opening track 'Liger' Giorgio cleverly paints an elusive ambiance using jumbled drums and an appealing bassline together with a continual synthline that nicely sits on top of the serene pads that give rise to an intense atmosphere.
The B1 side opens with similar soothing pads that gradually change when the immense bassline and full bodied kick drum come in. Giorgio again creates a somewhat adverse vibe which helps to give it a hint of lushness.
For the B2, Chicago legend 'Gene Hunt' contributes with a massive percy remix for 'Liger'. A lot of drum action is present in this club oriented (yet deep) roller. As far as remixes go, Gene Hunt proves to be a craftsman of high stature.

The collaboration between 3 of the coolest DJs / Producers in Milan, The Barking Dogs and Sapo from The Heels of Love, gives life to a new project called Le Macchine that is literally an afro balearic tropical and psychedelic whirl. The Ep contains 3 tracks and each one of them has a different context, all varying in style and technique: Eternal Sample is an amazingly produced deep spacey disco-techy long trip that has clear influences from Moroder, Vangelis and Lindstrom, Orbita Due instead is an elegant, funky and soulful mixture of italo, house and boogie, while the shuffle of the track "TheEdge Of Time" goes through more loopy african and a la steve reich territories ending

After a mad summer full of crazy gigs all over europe we are back for the long awaited release on SlapFunk Records again. We commissioned Gerd Janson for a collection that starts where previous compilations left off. While Computer Incarnations for World Peace (his compilations for Sonar Kollektiv) concentrated on tipsy new wave music done by jazz-funkers or neo disco-ists, Autobahns has an unintentionally strong leaning towards ambient not-ambient, kraut pleasers and codeine house, i.e. Industrial Ambient and Electrifying New Age. It's all new and exclusive material by people who have crossed paths with the compiler at one time or another.

This sometimes unlikely gathering is hopefully unified by its non-parochial view of dance- and living-room floors, ambient noise and its effectiveness as a soundtrack to long rides up and down the Autobahn.

When Luke Solomon got in touch and said he wanted to work with Local Talk we felt both honoured and happy, especially since we've been fans for a long time and Mats actually booked him to his Raw Fusion club in the late 90s.

He's been around long enough to be considered a legend within the scene. We couldn't agree more.

Lost Channels, a 130 bpm piano driven and punk-dubby New York inspired house track comes in two versions.
The Raw & Stripped Version is exactly what the name says, sharp snares & hi-hats, piano chords, a driving rhythm with Luke's trademark percussion sprinkled on top.
The Live Piano Version is actually the original version and is peppered with more of everything. Bubbly FX, more of that staccato piano and of course that muscular bassline.

For remix duties it's the return of an old Local Talk friend, Wil Maddams. It seems like Wil has spent some time in Detroit since last time. This remix sounds like something that would come straight out of the D, his clever drum programming holds this track together with it's deep pads and bubbling bassline. It's a retro (but fresh) techno jam for 2014.

Waze & Odyssey return to their label Street Tracks with a double A-Side Real Good Like / Everything (You're Made Of). The release comes with a remix of Real Good Like, and a Trikk re-dub. The EP has picked up early club support from the likes of Huxley, Jimpster, Severino, Skream, Duke Dumont, XXXY, Citizen, Adam Shelton, Maya Jane Coles & Kim Ann Foxman.

SUICIDE CIRCUS RECORDS is a new label connected to the Berlin Club Suicide Circus. The label represents the club in all its musical facettes, ranging from house and tech house to techno and all its derivates.MATHIAS SCHAFFHÄUSER is a regular guest at our club. With Nuevo Romance he has delivered a funky theme for the late night romantics. FALKO BROCKSIEPER, also a regular guest gives us something For The Birds, a classical house piece with beautiful chords.
BENI is one of our resident djs, a true school tech head. His track Growth displays well his approach to the dancefloor: dark and functional. Last but not least D_FUNC. vs MARIO BERGER show off with a strong techno tool. D_Func. is ALEXANDER KOWALSKI's alias for his raw techno output and despite of the raw apporach to this dancefloor monster you can well feel his professionality in production.

Full reissue of the classic track 'On & On' by Jesse Saunders, considered by many as the first house track. Backed with the original rhythm tracks!

Bristolian dream team, Waifs & Strays vs. Lukas meets Chicago legend, DJ Sneak sums up the next Jackathon Jams package from queen of the scene, Heidi. Loaded with bleeps, bumps and bass, Aside 'Gimme Love' is driven by its disco chugging bassline and low slung groove, while the 'Stokes Croft Dub' version gives the track a warped, stoned haze. Second original 'Dance Me (Dance You)' combines heavy low end with more 90s female vox swagger and DJ Sneak delivers his unmistakable funked up Chicago style in a rendition of 'Gimme Luv' with strains of boogie. It was love at first listen for Heidi who announced on BBC Radio 1 that the debut track from Waifs & Strays 'Yeah Yeah' (Leftroom) was the 'dirtiest house track I have heard in a very long time'. It was only a matter of time before they entered the Jackathon Jams hall of fame. Waifs & Strays first broke onto the scene in 2011 with huge releases following on Futureboogie and Hot Creations and Dirtybird. Lukas is another Bristol talent displayed on labels such as local house institution Futureboogie and Moda Black. Often collaborating with label mate Christophe, Lukas also runs the Alfresco Disco events and record label. Getting together with Waifs & Strays in his Stokes Croft studio (between games of basketball), they crafted these two massive tracks for Jackathon Jams. DJ Sneak needs little or no introduction. As one of house music's most outspoken characters and prolific producers (Classic Recordings, Strictly Rhythm, Cajual and own labels Magnetic Recordings and DJ Sneak Records etc), the original house gangsta is now a figurehead in the I'm A House Gangster collective and still completing rocking the worlds best clubs after two decades in the game.
