The second release from Spazio Records is a transatlantic affair. Made by the dynamic duo Zopelar from Sao Paulo in Brazil and SUMORAI from the southern part of Sweden. The tracks are the fruits from jams made behind hotel walls in Tokyo. Deep, raw and sticky-icky.

Reminiscent of a time where we were releasing 4-tracks sampler every month (remember the Secret Gems From The Vault) It is naturally that we thought about a various artists sampler in order to introduce the new wild bunch.
I said new but some of them are pretty familiar, which is the case with the almighty D'julz or Raw District for an incredible update on 2007 « Fast Forward » which deserves its title, Do I need to introduce D'Julz I don't think so, one of the most sought-after French dj and producer, he never disappoints.
Then we are pleased to welcome Accatone, having several EP's and remixes released since 2008 and a full album in 2012 on labels like Dabit, Apparel, Piston Recordings, Roots & Wings, One to One, to name some, and having his work remixed by legendary Matthew Herbert or Jay Tripwire (Poker Flat, Tonality), Piek, (Cadenza, Paulatine, diynamic), Accatone is becoming a full-grown producer by conquering the likes of Dj Sneak, Laurent Garnier, Stacey Pullen, Slam, Timo Maas, Danny Tennaglia, Olderic, David Labeij, Mirco Violi, Severino Panzeta (Horse Meat Disco), Paco Osuna and many others !
Scan Mode aka Alberto Sánchez began his career in the year 1998 and has since traveled throughout the Spanish territory, performing in major venues and festivals alongside the likes of Jeff Mills, Sven Väth, Dubfire, Marco Carola and Richie Hawtin to name a few. He is regarded as an eclectic artist who has taken different professional profiles during his musical career. His music is on the edge of House and Techno with brilliant melodies and rhytmic, Kike Henriquez began editing in Alex Flatner's labels, Later released on labels like BluFin, Greenhorn and with some of the best artists from the tech-house & deep-house scene, Introduced to David Duriez by Something Different(s head honcho Jesus Pablo, Kike soon joined the task force behind this new BR100 release, Another artist to watch out.

Recording under different aliases, the Burrell Brothers were the backbone of Nu Groove, the New York label started in 1987 which took inspiration from Trax Records, both musically and aesthetically. This compilation collects the absolute best of the Burrell's output, and gives a valuable insight to the much overlooked roots of New York house music. It is now close to 25 years ago that Nu Groove began in a New York where the house scene was just starting to blossom. In the four years the label existed, it released over 100 records, famously putting out early releases from artists such as Bobby Konders, Frankie Bones and Joey Beltram. Nu Groove started by releasing records by Rheji and Ronald Burrell, and continued to do so until it folded. The brothers were scouted by the label after they had recorded a ton of material for EMI America that never came out. The Burrell's have always stayed under the radar, which has largely to do with the various aliases they used for different projects, such as Aphrodisiac, Equation, Houz' Neegroz, Metro, N.Y. House'n Authority and Tech Trax Inc. This release is a celebration of the work of the Burrell Brothers. The album includes a wide variety of their music under all their various guises. And despite their different guises, all the music they made always had a grainy quality to it, like house music with a sepia tint. The second part of the vinyl set features classic Aphrodisiac material, most notably the ambient-esque 'Song Of The Siren'. Another Ronald Burrell highlight here is the equally seminal 'How Do U Luv A Black Woman'. Alongside more N.Y. House'n Authority tunes, the Metro tracks included here are another testament to Rheji's love for deep Chicago house, plus the energetic 'The Answer' by Equation, which became a rave anthem in the UK in the early 90s.

South Florida's very own J. Albert and Person of Interest come together for Exotic Dance Records on this four-track 12" of certified heat! A1 cuts to the chase with the soul-inflected number "Thank You for Believing in Me": a slapping house beat carries a soaring vocal refrain through rattling percussion and fretless bass. A2 shifts into sexier territory, as an enticing brass motif dances on top of titillating pulses, punchy breakbeats and an authoritative bounce. On the flipside, Person of Interest's homegrown "Pompano Acid" trades melodious acid with sun-soaked oscillating piano stabs on top of a shuffled boom-bap garage rhythm. B2 track "Still" made an appearance in last year's Bronze/Palace Paramount video and here provides a nice finisher to Exotic Dance's inaugural 12".

Informed by years spent building electronics and collecting records in Chicago and honing crowd control skills in the foggy clubs of London, C Powers' output approaches multiple rhythmic configurations via the intent of generating human response expressed in dance.C Powers is currently residing back in his home state of Georgia and is holding resident DJ posts at Atlanta's HUNGER club night and his own Cape Fear in Savannah GA. C is also the resident DJ for Savannah's own House Of Gunt performance group who through cross sensory stimulation experiences involving gender blasting action and choreography. Chris's recent output includes 12's on Proper Trax, CGI, Niche-N-Bump, as well as producing tracks for 18+ (Houndstooth/Fabric).

Seeing as we here at WPH HQ kinda like vinyl only releases we have decided to start the WPH 'TEN' series. The idea is simple: 10 x 10', always pressed on 300 copies, vinyl only, two original tracks from one artist. Up first is the debut release by another young Belgian kid called Dektro. A gear-head with a musical background and a love for house music is a combination that cannot go wrong...and it hasn't.

'De Flattekat' and 'Langhors' are two absolute house beauties that will appeal to both fans of Floating Points and Ame. Worlds apart for some, but not for Dektro and WPH

Local Talk release no.61 is 'Bewyste EP', a unique and contagious take on house music by Esa & Mervin Granger.
The opening track, Bontas lures you deep into Esa's forward thinking house music, it's raw, percussive and wondrously catchy with a organic feel. It might sound pretty straight forward but don't let that fool you. There are many layers of fx and clever programming which makes Esa stray away from the norm when it comes to producing and that's what we love.
Next up is MVK, a perfectly balanced deep house number that builds slowly with a lush combination of chords and piano. Watch out for the thumpin bass, it transforms the track into something really special and takes it to another level. On the flip Boddhi Satva delivers a remix worthy of a big sound system. His Ancestral Soul Mix of Bontas is delicate swinging congas and claps, garnished with a twisted synth line just waiting to explode. N1L lurches back into cranky post-techno action on Lee Gamble's label with the Ikea Zen EP: six tracks of deviant, obtuse dance music that brings the future to heel with X amount of noise and abstract funk.
Having the honour of inaugurating UIQ with the Wrong Headspace EP, Martin Rokis' 2nd volley feels more pinched and nervy, rolling out with discombobulating effect akin to caffeinated browser window-hopping or being physically rendered as an algorithmic .gif or holographic projection while in the middle of the dance.
Depending on your tolerance for vertigo and motion sickness, that sense of quantum instability is entirely pleasurable or quease-inducing. Maybe we were bounced on our heads too much as kids, but we're definitely in the former set and all up for being turned inside out.
A-side he plays with the gearbox as a Rubik's cube in #accelerate, slipping in and out of meter and focus with bewildering diffusion of grime ballistics and gyroid vox before Sleep Architecture gets on a heavy-lidded, technoid dancehall tip veering between dreamy and dread feels, while Galactic Tetris comes off like STL tending to a flock of primitive mechanical birds.
B-side, Fugu marks the EP's most messed-up and elusive moments, and the rickety tribalism Hazy One spirals upwards off scooping subs into heady thizz, but the best is kept in the back pocket with a full frontal mentalism called WARWARWAR which sounds exactly as frantic as the title suggests.

On "PORTAL TO CANIS", Chicago's RADIUS serves up 4 tracks of House with a downtempo/electro sensibility. "A DASH OF ACID" and "SEPARATED" kick off the A side, "WOMEN ARE THE GATEWAYS..." continues the party on the flip.

An idea who's time has clearly come, MOON ROCK VOLUME 1 struck a nerve upon release last spring. Storming into our fifth release from the dirty shores of New Jersey, Green Village is proud to present Village Elders 001, a compilation EP featuring new material from artists who have already flown the flag for GV. The A-side is held down by the Plan B duo of DJ Spider and Dakini9, purveyors of the Metro Area's dirtiest and deepest house sounds. Spider gets toxic a second time, following his 2013 Instruction drop with 'Toxic Trace 2', a thickly layered deep house cut whose seedy percussion underbelly contrasts vividly with the more traditional deep house pads that accompany it. Dakini9's 'Lost Paradise' is dark and mysterious like its title, the hats, trumpets, and vocals emerging in tangled webs of dub effects, a strong follow-up to her dope EP for the label. Disaroen, a duo from Toronto, half of which previously appeared on GV, turns in the most barren of the four tracks, 'Serious Doorman', heads-down techno that crackles to life halfway in and an auspicious debut for a promising new group. Last is NJ heavyweight Nicuri, a rising star whose 'Ripples of Time' closes the EP in his signature searching, melodic style.

Following its initial release in 2013 and its round of high-profile advert placements, FCL 'It's You' is proving to be one of those tracks that just keep coming back better. Featuring remixes by the likes of Mousse T., Hercules & Love Affair and Nick Holder, this Defected remix package is sure to send 'It's You' down the road to becoming a classic.

With a wall-scratching kick and rattling shakers, first on the list is Mousse T.'s Teef Vocal Mix, which moves with its minimal bass line and striking piano melody. Next up, Mousse T.'s Discotronic Mix drops the disco ball by introducing a groovy bass guitar riff and uplifting synth stabs. Nick Holder's Trackheadz Mix sets the irrepressible vocal over a rolling, sub-heavy house groove, with eerie chords and orchestral strings exquisitely playing off one another as the track progresses. Finally, Hercules & Love Affair Remix creates an intricate rhythm medley using pitched high hats and vanishing synth breaks against a futuristic guitar lick and cosmic arpeggios. With such a diverse and well-crafted selection of remixes, each track preserves the irresistible draw of the original while steering into its own unique sonic direction.

Argentina's Manuel Sahagun serves up a hypnotising three tracker with Italian producer Ivan Iacobucci on remix duties.

Based in Buenos Aires, Manuel Sahagun has been a key player in his country's electronic music scene for well over a decade now. Kick­starting his career releasing on seminal house imprint Wiggle, more recently Sahagun has appeared on Oblack, Klangkultur Schallplaten and Electronique (including collaborations with fellow Argentinian Jay West). Joining him on the release is Ivan Iacobucci, a Berlin­based producer known for appearances on Apollonia and Holic Trax.

'Latino Tool', as its name suggests, is a rhythmic production produced with DJs in mind featuring a medley of organic percussion before gradually introducing a sultry bassline and distorted chopped vox. In contrast, 'So Wet' takes things deeper with mesmerising synths and sampled crowd noises before the groove led 'Softly' combines shuffling drums with tantalising effects as warming pads ebb into the mix. Ivan Iacobucci then remixes 'Softly' ­distorting it into an otherworldly dancefloor workout filled with intricate nuances.

Now here's something special. A straight up, bona fide summer smash. A massive dancefloor-smashing beast of a tune. Daniel Dexter continues his long and fruitful relationship with Poker Flat by channelling the sound of classic Clivillés & Cole in 'Deeper Love', an early 90s house bomb that will send shivers down your spine. Underpinned by a resounding synth riff and dancing counter-motif, Kaori Kaneko's vocals provide the perfect foil, packing a powerful and soulful punch. Prolific Parisian Alexkid provides a radical reinterpretation: stripped down, muted and glitchy, with the vocal cut up into fragmented shards that flutter and fibrillate in an ear-tingling fashion. While on the flip, Berlin's Bay Area import Kevin Knapp intones the names of classic Hollywood starlets over the smooth groove of 'Heroine'. The fulcrum of the track - a fat and rubbery analogue bass - comes to the fore on an instrumental mix, perfect for long blends and deeper palettes.

After having brought you the critically acclaimed Japanese house compilation "Once upon a time in Japan...", Jazzy Couscous introduces one of the most promising artist of the French deep house scene, Hugo LX.Having worked on a strings of releases in early 2016, French producer Hugo LX (Courtesy of Balance, My Love is underground, Faces) comes back with another four track offering, with help from fellow French man, Korea-based Fulbert, on the remix duties. Expect some sample-built, bass heavy, deep fried pieces from the nomadic beatsmith, merging influences from Japanese dreamy ambiant, French vaporous soundtracks and American deep dance music. This EP will without a doubt be on heavy rotation on the dancefloors this summer!

Renowned electronic music duo Ogris Debris from Vienna is releasing its debut album! On "Constant Spring" they manage to keep a balance between vigorous house music, electronic pop and playful musicality.

The title says it all: spring fever, constant euphoria and a pioneering spirit are leaving a lasting impression and induce a longing for endless repetition. But the 12 multi-layered tracks do not only feed bold dance hedonism to the listener, they furthermore lure into a world of double meanings, depth and substance.

"Giant Stabs", as the opener is called, is a full-blown house anthem, setting the pace with massive synths and samples. This mood is carried on by more irresistable piano chords in tracks like "Racer" or "April Fool" and the driving synth-techno of "Midnight". In between those we find enchanting dancefloor pop hits like "Brainfreeze" or "Beyond The Wall" as well as the Latin-tinged stomper "Lazer Gun" and the sweet and bubbly final track "Sometimes".

There is also room for the rumbling funk of the successful album precursor "See The World" (check the video!) and the acid-soaked "Lie Cheat Steal" with its intriguing choir and lyrics, all the while showing the impressive range and depth of this album. To complete such a blooming variety we are treated to a revamp of their timeless onomatopoeic club hit "My Miezekatze" and the dubbed-out chords and rolling beats of "Nebula".

Just like their label mates Dorian Concept and Cid Rim, Ogris Debris are never at a loss for catchy melodies embedded in formidable harmonic structures and very individual sounddesign to form a precise and idiosyncratic language. Among their most unique features are the inventive use of voices, sampling and synthesis. They enmesh the listeners with hooklines and clever yet poetic lyrics, all the while tearing down the dancefloor with muscular and elaborate beats.

Ogris Debris are sometimes compared to acts like Nôze or dOP, but if you ask the guys they will rather cite Frank Zappa, Pharrell Williams, Queen, DJ Koze, Jamie Lidell, Matthew Herbert, Modeselektor, Four Tet or Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys as influences.

And now Ogris Debris are ready to make the big leap forward - forget about summer, autumn and winter, 2016 is the year of "Constant Spring"!

You can say Wide Awake is an appropriate title after a wonderful 2015 with a string of EP's on Sleazy Beats, Razor-n-Tape and Rose Records.This four tracker explores the sound he's been developing over the years and even touches a newer side.
The EP opens with the title track 'Wide Awake' and embodies the signature Junktion sound with a summery balearic touch.
'What We Are' is a faster synth laden affair coupled with his usual sample action. 'Sunny Side Up' is what the title says it is, a sunny Disco track driven by a groovy bassline and a funky rhythm guitar. The EP closes down with 'Don't Mess Up' for a more contemplative jazzy track with some smooth sampling and afro touches.

The result is something lush and unique. The original is backed with a fine interpretation from The Mole, and the super cool 'Edge Of Our Love' completes the package.

Driving forward from the announcement of their forthcoming 'PolyRhythmic' LP on Sasha's Last Night On Earth imprint, Kate Simko and Tevo Howard are known for creating out of the box and genre-bending productions. Now, the native Chicagoans proudly announce their 'Theme Track EP,' giving music lovers a taste of things to come from the album.

Both Kate and Tevo grew up on house music and their collaboration stays true to their roots whilst bringing a contemporary twist. Their signature classic sound shines brightly through each production. The opening track 'PolyRhythmic Theme' does exactly that. A groove-ridden bass line, coupled with a driving electro synth, mingles with recordings of people on the street near Tevo's studio in Chicago.

Tevo's classic Roland programming and Kate's melodic synth melodies are ever present throughout the EP, highlighted perfectly in 'No Regrets'. Featuring vocalist Baz from Pirupa, the track's keep-it-real lyrics and hypnotic harmonies bring a new dimension to the PolyRhythmic project. Inspired by the iconic Chicago imprint Prescription Records, 'No Regrets' is a standout track from the forthcoming album.

Closing the EP in the spirit of PolyRhythmic, renowned New York producer Fred P (aka Black Jazz Consortium) delivers a masterful remix of 'PolyRhythmic Theme'. Fred, a former roommate of Tevo's in Berlin, has established himself as one of the most respected players in house music. Taking his time on this remix, he's delivered an artful dance floor jam already earning incredibly enthusiastic DJ feedback. An eight-minute journey, the rework of 'PolyRhythmic Theme' takes the listener from sparse 808 grooves to powerful high rising synth peaks fluttering throughout the track.

Kate and Tevo form a natural alliance, which captures their versatility as artists. Combining their mutual passions for music and homage to their Chicago roots, 'Theme Track' once again reiterates that the duo are strongly at the forefront of a fresh wave of innovative and dynamic producers. This release marks another chapter in the eclectic collaboration of Kate Simko and Tevo Howard, moving us closer to their eagerly anticipated album out this September on Last Night On Earth.
