It's some four years since the release of Bison's acclaimed debut single, 'Way To L.A', the result of a series of productive studio sessions between Paul 'Mudd' Murphy, longtime collaborator Ben Smith, krautrock legend Holgar Czukay and vocalist Ursula Major.
Since then, Murphy and Smith have made a number of return trips to CAN's Innerspace Studio in Cologne, where Czukay famously conjures his out-there musical magic. The result is Travellers, the quartet's long-promised debut album.
It is, by anyone's standards, a deliciously dubby and intergalactic concoction; a fearlessly atmospheric blend of krautrock and dub disco-inspired grooves, delay- laden horns, quirky percussion, stargazing electronics and eyes-wide-shut vocals.

Debut single off Daft Punk's #1 album, Random Access Memories. Musically, ''Get Lucky'' is a disco and funk song while lyrically, according to Pharrell Williams, the song is about the fortune of finding chemistry with someone and not just about sexual chemistry.The single has topped numerous charts around the world.

Ilo caused quite a frenzy with his edit of New Musik's 'Warp'. A UK record reviewer joked "We can only hope an ILO edit of Grauzone's 'Eisbear' is next"! So he does it! Following two EP releases on Delusions Of Grandeur the time felt right for thatmanmonkz to get working on his debut LP. The Sheffield b-boy is no newcomer to production having been releasing music since the mid-noughties but has seen a definite rise in interest the last few years following essential releases on his own Shadeleaf label as well as remixes and productions for the likes of Classic, Kolour LTD and Kon's StarTime.
With his first musical love being Hip Hop it's easy to understand how his approach to house turns out so refreshing. Inevitably MPC's, big, bold samples, Jay Dee inspired grooves and a raw, underproduced sound all play a big part and never one to shy away from an interesting collaboration he has enlisted the skills of several vocalists including Detroit MC Ta'raach (whose credits include Slum Village and Jill Scott), Erik Rico (collabs include Ron Trent and DJ Spinna), Khalil, Dave Aju, Pete Simpson (as A Brother Is...) and Malik Ameer.
Things kick off with a low-slung soul jam entitled Air featuring Kahil Anthony complete with sparkling Rhodes arps and a dub-wise bassline underpinning a beautifully lazy groove. Jus Anutha Wunna Deez follows with a rough and ready house jam that clearly doffs its cap to those old Sound Signature and Mahogoni Music releases we know and love so much. Next up we have Boogie Down with Erik Rico rocking some Parliament inspired vocal business bringing the feelgood vibes to this rolling P-Funker. Some Ol' Nex' Ish goes for a jazz samba meets house fusion whilst A Fly New Tune goes strictly old school with a classic combo of dusty break, filtered fusion rhodes n bass sample, movie dialogue snippets and a masterful flow delivered by Ta'raach. Dave Aju steps up next on Turn It Out laying down a unison vocal refrain to compliment the bumping disco groove complete with a call and response section for some singalong party participation!
As we continue, Another Night Under The Glitterball sees thatmanmonkz back in familiar territory with a rock solid, deep jazz-house jam. On I Can Hardly Breathe we're treated to a downtempo gospel-infused affair which leads us perfectly into the most bumpy club- friendly track of the LP For Bae. Moon On The Hill is a collaboration with Italian DJ Kali and his Raw Standard crew and treats us to some distinctly mid 90's Kruder and Dorfmeister vibes to zone out to before heading off in an altogether more bonkers, psychedelic dancehall direction on Vampires. Baked is another classy thatmanmonkz take on Hip Hop featuring Malik Ameer on the mic. Take U 2 My House sounds like something Prince might have made in the mid-80's if he'd just come off a 3 day bender at Panorama Bar. And closing the show in perfect style and fashion we have For Those I've Lost Along The Way which is a blunted yet beautifully optimistic number that has echoes of Lonnie Liston Smith and a brilliant spiritual vocal sample which provides the perfect closer to an amazing debut LP.

Side B brings more ethereal and psychedelic flavours to the table. 'NA KOLANA PASTUSZKOWIE' comes from Laboratorium, Poland's answer to Weather Report. Their unique take on fusion is remixed here by Daniel Drumz, one of the heroes of Polish hiphop & beat scene. This longtime turntablist leaves his rap roots and travels to the psychedelic coast to bring you an amazing piece of Baltic Beat.

Last two tracks are chopped and looped by Australian hero Carpentaria in a truly Balearic fashion. 'ZA OSTATNI GROSZ' by Budka Suflera charms the listener with dripping pianos and a misty, endless soft rock groove (with added swirling synths played here by Brennan Green himself), while ZACZAROWNE MIASTO by Kombi is a dark, cinematic piece of slow synth pop.

Limited Original Warehouse find 1982 original pressing from the experimental band from the Bigazzi brothers founders of Materiali Sonori & Fuzz Dance labels that also produced Alexander Robotnick.

This 1979 release is one of the two albums by the disco outfit THE RAY CAMACHO BAND with bandleader Ray Camacho, exploring the field of the funky club dance music happening at that time. Original copies of this brilliant album go for about 800,00 USD among collectors. Now the brand new reissue of "Reach Out" enables us booty shakers to get into the ever pulsating grooves. The needle lowers down and hits the vinyl and a beat like flashing lights sets in. Bass guitar, regular drums and percussions weave a tight web of rhythm patterns that capture your body right away and set you into a state of trance. LIZ VERDI was only 17 when she recorded this sublime Northern Soul favourite back in 1964, the year that she graduated from high school. She signed to Columbia Records and recorded 'Think It Over' for A&R producer Lor Crane. The song, written by her sister Bea Verdi, was set to launch a promising career but the girls would have to wait some 20 years for it to finally catch on, here in the U.K.
LINDA LLOYD recorded three 45s for Columbia culminating in her Northern Soul rarity 'Breakaway' in 1966. The original b-side, 'Little Things Like That', was also recorded by Northern Soul songstress Barbara Mills.

Is It Balearic.. latest offering is from Klik Records man Glass Coffee. Disclosures is a hypnotic slice of European deep house. Laid back electric pianos and marimbas layered over a tight house groove. Dance Naked the second track follows the same kind of pattern upping the tempo slightly,building slowly towards a deep bass drop and arped string line. Again more trademark layers. Full on dancefloor action. The B-side brings one of the greatest Italian house producers ever to IIB. Don Carlos' remix is really something special. A relentless subby double bass sounding b-line relentlessly underpins this delightfully atmospheric excursion into deepness. The Coyote remix slows down the pace and dons its flip flops for a little tropical shuffling. IIB hitting the spot again.

This superb performance finds him playing with Weather Report's legendary bassist Jaco Pastorius, as well as Bennie Maupin (tenor sax / bass clarinet) and James Levi (drums). Broadcast on the local WXRT-FM, it offers a setlist anchored in his Head Hunters era, but also offers a track from Maupin's superb Slow Traffic To The Right album. It's presented here with background notes and images.

Brazilian Disco Boogie Sounds, is a compilation that brings together nine of the most important and obscure hits of the Brazilian Funk-Boogie-Disco scene during the years of 1978 to 1982. Jùnior Santos is a Carioca drummer since his 15 years old, and is today a respected vinyl collector and music researcher. More than anything, he is carried on by the love of Brazilian music, which has never been forgotten.

Favorite Recordings initiative of seeking a unique project with Brazilian music carried Jùnior on to dig into old record companies' files and bring out pearls from what he sees as the end of the Samba-Rock period. At that time musicians and arrangers such as Lincoln Olivetti, Robson Jorge, and Oberdan Magalhães along with Banda Black Rio, were responsible for the new music scene. They had dominated the studios with sophisticated and original arrangements that have forever transformed Brazilian musical perspective. This music, at that point, had gained a new style and great world respect that has remained till the contemporary times.

The Nang crew are back with their yearly round up of all that is spiffing here at Nang towers... Volume 7 of the Array is here. 7 years... wow we are getting old.

Anyhow onto the tunes and a step back to the 80s with (the amazingly named) Hot Hot Hawk and their 80s synth and guitar micro-epic "Atlanta Skyline". Next we head straight for a slice of catchy-vocal disco house from those talented Italians Irregular Disco Workers with "Yesterday". It's a stomper. Talking of vocal house stompers, next up is an exclusive (to this comp) mix from Russian remixer wonder-crew Kim and Buran. They take "Downtown Girl" from the Mexican based Future Feelings to a whole heap of new and interestingly funky places.

Nang head honcho is up next with one of his rare (and over the top) musical excursions "Ponies It's the Flowertruck". Don't ask about the title, but groove wise we angling toward the 80s with "lexicon of love" type orchestra arrangement and slidey-moog-bass overtures. Karaman gets disco-house funky next with "My Touch" before West Coast based Aimes takes things up a dancefloor notch or two with his wonky-funk groover "Trepadado".

No Nang compilation is complete without some space or sci-fi references in the mix somewhere..., and "Taking Control" from Moskva Kassiopeya does just that. Space -Disco - Rock..., we have lift off. Nanka then slows the pace down a tad with Blue Azure on their foreboding and melodic song. Bestinspace keep the space theme flowing with their bleepy-sci-fi Nu Disco. Just a touch of 80s power vocal in there too...,.

UK based Martin Davis keeps the big room disco house fires burning next with "Inflation" as does Italian Nang newcomer Romain Bezzina with his big-time swinging disco epic "Late Night Dance". Russian producer Hemul teams up with Sportloto on the remix for the electronic funk workout "Supernova" just before handing over to Nang long-time collaborator and all-round DJ whirlwind, Rayko. His stabby synth and catchy guitar from brand new track "Crazy" being a great starting point for future Nang material.

We round things off with the Stone Funk collective take on the summer sound scape "Beach Coma" from the Korvids (another exclusive to this comp) and Kazakhstan newcomers Wawawiwas with their thoughtful, melancholic synthfest "Sea Of Dispair". Sportloto makes another appearance with his slightly jazzy, delightfully quirky vibraphone & flute fest "Ruines". We leave things big, dancefloor and chunky with "Begin" from Russian producer Folano.
