'Trust No Woman' is their debut album from ZYX (from then on they signed all publications with GRAF+ZYX) released in 1981 on the label RCA Musica. Recorded, mixed and mastered from March to August 1981 at their own Sun Moon & Stars Studio Vienna. They designed their short, immediate songs around a barrage of analogue synthsizers, rock-solid electronic beats and controlled, low-key vocals. It is an exceptional showcase of electro-pop, cold and mechanical robotic rhythms under a claustrophobic atmosphere. Songs are sung in English with a heavy German accent and lyrics resemble obscure, existentialist dialogues. Each song is infused with the spirit of hopeful discovery that accompanied the introduction of affordable home computers and synthesizers at that time. It is a album that advances the sounds set forth by The Human League, Cabaret Voltaire, Tuxedomoon and Yello. All songs have been remastered for vinyl by George Horn at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley. The vinyl comes housed in replica of the original jacket design, which features a photograph from a video still by ZYX. Each LP includes a copy of the double sided 11x11 full color insert that was included with the original pressing featuring photos and lyrics plus a postcard. ZYX may not be as revered as Kraftwerk, yet their work shares the technological melancholy that suffuses through the music of the men from Düsseldorf.

Here's the pitch: ask six of Chicago's finest exponents of bumping house and pitched down disco cuts to contribute some of their finest works, blend them all together and present in the appropriate space either side of two 12" slabs. What's the end product The rather hot looking Chicago Service from the Amsterdam label Lumberjacks in Hell which features a merry cast of the city's finest in Gene Hunt, Rahaan, Jamie 3:26, Cratebug, Hugo H and Boogie Nite across two hot plates.

IIB next release comes from French duo Baptiste & Pierre. 2 tracks of warm tropical goodness. Virage is a deep mellow afro tinged tropical workout. Muted guitar hook and nature sounds conjuring up far flung deserted beaches. Ruf dug beefs it up a touch and moves it indoors giving it a more afterhours feel. The second track has the same evocative feel as Virage with added atmospheric pads and a bouncy melody. Like a closing track on an 80's road movie. Full of emotion. Italian maestro Deep 88 creates a truly authentic slice of early ninetoes deep dreamy house. Perfectly wrapping the original in warm analogue drums. Another quality release from IIB.

Seven years after his debut solo album Get Wild, Sharam is ready to unveil his sophomore LP, Retroactive.
One half of the legendary dance duo Deep Dish, Sharam's second artist album continues to tell his story through a retrospective of influences going back to the days where he first discovered his love for dance music in Washington DC's underground club scene.
Comprised of a collection of tracks he's held in the vaults waiting to release as a cohesive concept instead of unveiling as meaningless singles, Retroactive revisits his roots across thirteen tracks that traverse from early 80's Giorgio Moroder inspired disco to futuristic, dark and hypnotic clubby affairs with menacing drum and bass inspired sounds - illustrating house music's metamorphosis into different sub-genres and the house offshoots Sharam indelibly shaped.

'I never want my records to sound like anyone else's, and at the same time I never want two of my own tracks to sound the same," Sharam explains. "Every track is its own adventure, like an individual ride in a theme park. Each ride has to stand on its own, but come together as one cohesive unit in the context of the theme park. In this case the theme park is a warehouse, filled with hypnotic rides and emotional rollercoasters," and I've Retroactively gone back to all those rides and influences" Sharam says.

Retroactive begins with "Arpi," an old-school tune built around progressing techno sequences and bright, melancholic melodies that set the stage for the tonally dark album to follow. "Over You" is a certified dance floor gem, borrowing the thickly-vocoded productions of the late 70's and mixing them with sounds popularized later on in house history. Sharam features one of his heros, the disco legend Giorgio Moroder on his high-octane, heavily-synthesized "Crazi Flute," and conjoins the soaring and heartbreaking vocals of long-time collaborator Anousheh with thudding techno beats on "Blue Red." "Techi" and "A Warehouse" keep things raw with hypnotic layers and big basslines, while "Gypsi" oozes soul looped in a tireless groove. "The Photograph", a collaboration with Alex Neri, clocks in at over 14 minutes and is a testament to Sharam's ability to create a true journey of sounds in one track. The album concludes with the bonus track "Here Comes The Rain Again," a cover of the iconic 80's Eurythmics record. Instead of reworking Eurythmics' "Sweet Dreams" like many producers before him, Sharam transforms "Here Comes The Rain Again" into a distorted dancefloor dubplate that's sure to anchor sweaty sunrise sets.

Originally released in 2004 on the Rephlex label (the label co-founded by Aphex Twin), Kerrier District's debut has long since gone down as a classic album, a kaleidoscopic ride through Disco, Funk and MPC beats. The mastermind of Luke Vibert, the Cornish acid pioneer and grand exponent of mischievous electronic sounds under a variety of guises (including Plug, Wagon Christ and Amen Andrews), the Kerrier District debut has long been of print and circulation.

Following 2015's successful re-entry on Hypercolour, with the critically acclaimed album '4', the label will re-master and re-issue this landmark release. Faithfully re-creating the original 3LP vinyl set, and re-issuing on CD & digital alongside a bonus disc/tracks that feature the second Kerrier District EP ('2', originally released in 2006).

With a big Kerrier revival in full swing (check the latest remix single on Hypercolour where Ricardo Villalobos & Max Loderbauer, KiNK and Head High all pay homage to the man), then there's been no better time for the re-issue treatment on one of dance music's classic albums.

The land of Blah Blah returns with possibly their strongest package so far starting off with Ruffy's Midnight Sativa Dance Edit. The 24-minute long original has featured as the last track at the infamous Coma Club in Copenhagen run by Kenneth Bager & Co and this rework was born when Ruffy visited Copenhagen and found the CD of the original from Brazil in the toilet of Bager's house - yes he did! He  instantly fell in love with the quality and originality of this track and started to edit and add effects and keyboards. The result is an instant winner for the open-minded and genre-bending DJ. 'Tell' is a gorgeous French track sounding like a female version of Michael Macdonald with a beautiful melody, extended, edited and gilded with newly added guitars by edit meister KBE - certainly one for the Balearic connoisseurs. Flip over for Mars and Jupiter's 'Open Air Dub', one of the significant records played at Amnesia in Ibiza in the 80ties by Leo Mas and Alfredo - a perfect slice of afro funk dub but here with extra instrumentation and edited to perfection for any discerning dance floor in 2015. To round things off comes an original of the one of the true Balearic groups of the 80ties  - Material.  'South of Here' is an unreleased beauty from an album that never saw sunshine and the light of day.  Balearic Brigade - move fast as there are only 250 copies ...

Scotland's foremost (possibly only) disco obsessive returns with a fourth volume in the critically acclaimed Disco Love series. Previous volumes had critics saying things like Some of it is risqué, cheesy and (may I say) sexy. Great stuff for us disco-geeks' and A real gem for the disco connoisseurs' and This will enhance any deep disco collection' and the ever-reliable Glaswegian crate digger unearths even more dusty gems' and Just when you think that Al Kent guy is not going to get you again, he assembles a third Disco Love that is more stimulating than the first two volumes' and, less excitingly, The mastering and sound quality is great' So, just when you think that Al Kent guy isn't going to get you again, here he is - with fifteen more obscure disco tracks (or at the very least soul records you could dance to), most of which were pressed in limited quantities before sinking without trace, including five very special edited and extended versions and a DJ mixed second CD.

Following on from Plus Instruments' Love Is Enough Remixes EP comes an accompanying Dubs EP, featuring deeper reversions by Jamie Paton, Luke Solomon, Khidja and joining them with a breaks meets dubwise, Alphonse. Truus de Groot's return to her Plus Instruments project after a 30 years break saw the label pick up her off-kilter House roller, Love Is Enough for one of our (e)special remixing packages. Here then, we turn out attention to everyone's favourite, the Dubs. Starting with label mainframe, Jamie Paton, his Cloudy Dub-Out pulls his mix through modular prisms for heads down basement rumble. Echo chamber vocals, twisted syncopations and a bass to breakdown walls, this is Paton's true calling - dub to get lost in and rightful to kick off the EP. Next guest remixer de jour, Luke Solomon stays close to his original bumpin' remix, warping the vocal with skat'n'trippin wonk, all atop a funk bass line and riding shuffle percussion. Cha cha cha. On the flip, Khidja triumph again with a tougher version. Not a straight up dub of their remix, this pushes a nod to colder (wave) vibes, with industrial percussion riding high on their trademark production. Hard kick atop refrained synths, growing out of Eastern protoid routes to glimpse their future.
Finally, mystery man Alphonse comes in from the dark to close with a killer breaks inspired dub. Utilising the original's bass with an angular break, the intricate cut up percussion, Theremin and vocals all glide, keeping the head and feet (jazz) dancing for some (free) party sound system love. Dub is enough...

Our 003 has arrived, a trio of tracks from the vast archives of Salford's own Sonic Insomniac, Mr D.Ball. Although previously unheard, these tracks evoke instant feelings of nostalgia and reminiscence. As always Dave exhibits his effortless knack for combining emotive melodies with liquid basslines and refined percussive rhythms. From the majestic electric piano and live strings of title track 'Elements', to the graceful, wandering synth lead and growling bass of 'Doreen' through to the epic 13 minute B-side 'Healer' with its subtle chord progressions and sumptuous live bass crescendo.Timeless, sentimental music that will appeal as much to lovers ofclassic Techno such as Underground Resistance or Mayday as much as it will to fans of Ash Ra Tempel or Jean Luc Ponty. All tracks recorded in Salford between 2002-2006, extracted from minidisc 2015.

After making some massive claims regarding electronic music last year which caused a stir in the dance music community, Mat Zo had a lot to live up to with his long awaited second album "Self Assemble". What didn't help was the fact that his first album, "Damage Control" was critically acclaimed by many within dance music and is now considered a modern-day masterpiece with mesmerising tracks such as The Sky and the massive Easy with Porter Robinson.Blending genres and sounds in a way only Zo can achieve, this record flows incredibly well as the tracks move from one to the other almost telling a story of the different styles of electronic music. At times the album is reminiscent of Zo's incredible Essential Mix from back in 2013 in the way that it progresses and constantly surprises the listeners. A lot funkier than Damage Control, it's no less incredible.
Beginning with the beautifully atmospheric "Order out of Chaos" which starts with an absolute wall of sound that boggles the mind in how Zo even went about designing something so complex, this sets the tone for the rest of the record in a cracking way. The melody soon crescendos and we're introduced in to the meat of the album with "The Enemy". Bringing out all the good funky vibes on this track, again Zo exhibits his insane production talents which are a staple of the album. Featuring vocals from the wonderful Sinead Egan, this is a great uplifting tune that'll no doubt have you dancing in your chair or in the club.
'Sinful" acts to continue the funky good-time vibes and transports us to a cool summertime drive. It has us yearning for happier times and again the guest vocals from I SEE MONSTAS go a long way in getting across this happy vibe. Featuring an uplifting almost french house inspired bassline and squelch synths that wouldn't look out of place on a Daft Punk or Madeon record, this is another stunning track from the record. "Patterns Emerging" feels like a bridge into the next section of the album and is unfortunately short. The orchestral element really brings out the emotion on this track and we only wish it was longer. "Killing Time" has those classic chopped up vocals that Zo uses to great effect and some nicely programmed drums that could be a nod to the drum and bass he used to put out under MRSA.'Smacked up on Jack" features some cool middle eastern sounds and a wacky vocal sample that helps to progress the album and keep the listener interested, again though we feel like it's a bit too short and are left wanting more. The next tune "Ruffneck Bad Boy VIP" is an absolute mammoth and one of our favourites off the record. Opening with an immense rhodes melodic sequence and after some nice vocals, the track rips into the electro house and dubstep infused banger that it really is. Some dirty, dirty sound design and drum production will have the dance floors going wild and shows us again why Zo is so good, it's a far cry from the funkier elements of the earlier stuff on the album and shows how Zo can show off a range of electronic sounds. "Lights Out" is a straight up hard hitting electro banger with an infectious vocal sample that only needs to be heard to be understood. Not much more needs to be said about it! Coming into the last section of the record, "Soul Food" returns us to the groove with an astonishing house beat and bass line that have us questioning how Zo makes it so hard not to smile listening to this album."Stereo no Aware" starts sounding like it's taken straight from a space movie epic and soon transforms into a goose bump inducing melody with a driving growling bass line that bring back the epic dubstep we all used to love a couple of years ago. Skrillex eat your heart out. Finishing off this record on a more emotional note, "Too Late" starts off like a guitar ballad and then transforms into something totally different. Egan's melancholic vocals enhance this track to great effect and is all backed by Zo's lovely downbeat production until we're treated to a monster of a climax around half way through the track which will surely blow the cobwebs right off you. Zo says goodbye to us with the phenomenal "The Last Transmission" and what a way this is to close out an incredible sophmore album for the English producer. The melancholic piano chords are a subtle and pleasing way to close out this journey of a record. Mat Zo really has outdone himself here and we're really looking forward to hearing some of these bombs dropped live. Surely a contender for album of the year at such an early stage, yet again it's only the best delivered by Mat Zo.

The 'C-Scape' EP from Chromengel is the latest release on the Magic Waves label and features four tracks fit to set your turntables on fire once again! Chromengel is a secret production alias of an original 1970s kosmische and synth-wave veteran producer, and while the tracks all sound sonically fresher-than-fresh the musical experience shines through in equal measure. Opening the record is the title track, 'C-Scape', a melancholic leftfield electro builder that has 'instant classic' stamped all over it, and is followed up by the dark and deep dubbed-out electronic space sounds of 'Khamsin', a modern-day masterpiece evoking memories of Basic Channel, Aural Float and Air Liquide amongst others. Side B kicks off with 'Wes Too', a progressive piece of contemporary kosmische action that takes the energy levels to a climax before we finally crash down to Earth again with a bump for 'Photosynthetik', an electro beast that's as mean as it is futuristic and as tough as it is slick. As usual the pressing is limited so grab this while stocks last!

Pilotes' is the third release of the 7inch dedicated label No More Pop. By an obscure french synth pop band, Performance, this double pack brings together both rare and unreleased material from the early 80s. The double 7inch features the original version, a dub version, a remake of the song Sécurité, as well as the unreleased track Parfum du Temps. The package is rounded off by a pretty special remix of Orgue Electronique.

Relentless stuff from KAT with release number 26 coming via the Hinge Project, a disco balled collaboration between Florent F and Yo-One Sutter. Having a penchant for all things Rinder & Lewis is no bad thing and that's what this release if all about, a cap doffed in their El Coco direction. First up we have 'Cocomotion 79' : A top draw, classy as, uber cool disco lounge biggie that was out in (you guessed it) 1979. Things have been slightly slowed down from the original and chopped in all the right places taking this from over 10 mins down to just under 7 strengthening those fender Rhodes and string sections along the way.
Next up is 'It's Your Last Chance'... A sultry mid-tempo ditty with an absolute killer groove edited down to accentuate that ace vocal hook. Tempo'd for Dj pleasure (without losing that all important live feel), subtle delays effects sprinkled over the top with a filtered mid-section for added oomph - massive ! On the flip we have 'Love Exciter' - A full on dancer with bonafied disco hand claps, squelchy bass, clavs and strings. Here the tempo has been brought down considerably from the original with the beats are locked down for mixing delights and finishing things off nicely we have the classic 'Coco Kane'. Insane disco loops, massive bassline and all round killer string arrangement rounds things up very nicely.

Rediscovered original year 2000 pressing from the labels archives!

Mary Afi Usuah trained as an a opera singer at the prestigious St Cecilia Academy in Rome and spent 13 years touring Europe with artists like Duke Ellington and Deep Purple. She matched vocal chops with Robert Plant performing with Led Zeppelin and blew away the top names on the Lagos scene when she returned to Nigeria. She also broke a few hearts with her killer smile, if some accounts are to be believed. African Woman marshals these experiences into an exceptionally powerful and diverse album. From the Tina Turner stomp of 'What's A Woman To Do', to the Aretha-style musings of the title track, Mary takes everything she learned on the road to tell her story about her continent in a distinctly African manner. The boys from Akwassa were on hand to ensure that everything was kept extra tight and funky. Mary Afi Usuah only released two albums but she is undeniably one of the greatest female singers the African continent has produced. African Woman serves as her legacy, along with the remarkable number of Nigerian female singers she mentored and inspired. - Peter Moore


"I met MARY AFI USUAH in 1979 while I was the lead singer with TEE MAC COLLECTION. We were based at SURULERE NIGHT CLUB in Lagos, Nigeria. She came in from Calabar in the Cross river state. She was a beauty with her afro hair and had a very strong voice and very powerful on stage. Her performance was electrifying. She did a lot of shows with us and together we got the crowd rocking. A very dark complexioned lady, she was full of life and love. Her smiles would sweep any man off her feet instantly and I immediately recognized a talent that go all over the world. Her music is a blend of African rhythms, soul and funk with heavy bassline. I am glad to let you know that the vynil you have in your hands now contains music that will tickle all ears for a very long time. Happy listening."

For our fourth installment, we turn our focus to the Middle East this time. Presenting a bit more of an early doors tip with Mehmet Aslan making another appearance , serving up a Turkish folk nugget and Tel Aviv's mighty Red Axes delivering an industrial disco gem.

He's a regular DJ at Düsseldorf's infamous Salon Des Amateurs and operates as part of the Forum crew alongside Tim Schumacher & Volkan Simonic. He's also involved in the running of the newly launched Aiwo record label. An extremely accomplished and open minded selector his DJ sets take in a wide variety of obscure sounds including Reggae, Afro, House, Electronics & various Left-field meanderings. Siren began recording in earnest during the winter of 2013, but has beginnings which date farther back, to their mutual residencies at NYC's storied night-spot APT, and to the parties they produced together in APT's wake. Events with names like Camille 3000, Adult Section and Strobe Lodge were lovingly presented, with bold, romantic graphics and a strong, specific statement that refinement and transgression can, and should always hang together.

A Canal Street loft, A Bushwick print-shop, a former ballroom dance studio in Chinatown, an old theater, an idyllic poolside on Long Island, a burlesque parlor - all locations which have played host to Jesrani & Kane's unique way of playing for party people. Siren champions a melodic and eclectic-but-unified style of playing which has earned them a following in their explorations of what makes a night of mixed music dynamic, fluid and ultimately transformative.

Over the course of conversations about songs played and casual examinations of each other's work, a studio dialogue developed naturally and led to regular sessions. A battery of songs were sketched, the name Siren selected, and a new chapter begun. Their easy bond of playing records together has extended into a studio practice ready to yield a significant body of work.

Siren's first offering, 'Gauntlet,' is a moody, rich maelstrom of a song which embraces everything from heavy disco, to West African guitar, to soundtrack and theme music, to Adrian Belew. Released on Compost in late 2014, it was met with superlative praise from fellow DJs and dance music press alike. Their second single, entitled 'A/Way' with Mr. Reed stands in proud, stark counterpoint to their first. A sunny, wind-swept trip of a song, this single is a paean to a life un-hampered and in one's own power. Anchored by a strong-but-easy bass line which recalls Norman Whitfield, and punctuated by horns which gently hint at Burt Bacharach, the song is propelled forward by a driving, joyous guitar groove which embodies the spirit of the most uplifting of late-60 & 70s rock & roll. A soaring, plaintive vocal by Mr. Reed ties it all together into a glorious, bittersweet parcel to be delivered straight to the heart.

Siren has also completed the second of its first two remixes, and will begin touring together as a DJ unit, all due autumn 2015. Sound the alarm.
