Michael The Lion & Jay Airiness - Keep On Hangin On

Diggin Deeper brings the funk with a Trans-Atlantic split EP from two edit masters.
Side A features Philadelphia disco don Michael The Lion, who has earned raves for his work on Soul Clap, Razor-N-Tape and Giant Cuts. His "Keep On Hangin' On" is a raw take on the classic "French touch" style - live vibraphone and bass elements to give a jolt of energy to a loft classic. With "Finally", Michael brings some nasty boogie funk with a groove that will give you the gas face. Side B showcases two tracks from Frenchman Jay Airiness, best known as half of the Parisian disco band Venice Beach. On "Funky Situation," Jay brings some oomph to a disco jazz groove that sails along. But Jay's touch is most evident on "Two of Us', a boogie-house banger that has made its way into a lot of well-connected DJs sets recently.
This 12" has four, diverse joints which can be dropped in different phases of an all-night party - a DJ's best friend!

Whiskey Disco #48 glows in the welcome return of Tomas Malo as well as beach, pool and terrace season.

Tomas Malo's skilled editing is underpinned by lush production and meticulous sample selection. South of the border flare meets French Touch filter in this package of three originals + Leftside Wobble's remix, sly and covertly sneaking a touch of classic acid to finish off the package.

EUREKA is one of the most exciting party and house crews in Tokyo that works with the theme 'Quality House Music Never Betray'. Now they're also starting up their own record label with a little help from their close friends over at Local Talk Records.
The very first release on EUREKA! comes from ex Bristol producer Crackazat who has had multiple releases on Local Talk, Future Boogie and Z Records.
With is melodic and jazzy take on House music he's quickly moved up on the underground scene as one of the key producers on today's house scene. A 'COFFEE TIME'
This track has a strong character with a bumpy combination of a catchy vocal chorus and a jazzy horn samples. It's a track that is so simple but still contains so much music.
B. 'SEVEN STEPS' Here we go more up-tempo but still with a jazzed up vibe. With a killer piano jazz loop (Miles!) and some added house chords, jacked up 4/4 beats, swinging hi-hats and we get a real winner for the dancers.

For their first excursion into your hearts and record collections, these dapper chaps turn their attention to a pair of overlooked, obscure and impossible to find cuts from their homeland. Various - The Soul Of Disco Vol. 1 Compiled By Joey Negro & Sean P

Love to unearth DISCO's more SOULFUL jewels but don't have the time or money to dedicate yourself to the mouse-click
battles between pasty-faced collectors on e-bay Disco-nut producer Joey Negro and fellow crafty crate-digger Sean P came to the rescue in 2005 with the first of their great value Soul of Disco albums that was rammed to the rafters with CLASSIC, RARE, HARD to FIND GEMS from the era that brought us fantastic music and sparkly platforms. Now, more than 10 years later the album finally sees a gatefold double vinyl release featuring 10 of the best tracks from Vol.1 of the series. So rare and highly sought after are many of these tracks by Disco connoisseurs that the original 12's of this album would likely cost you several thousand pounds, if you were lucky enough to find them in the first place. This collection spans the years 1976-'82, with an R&B slant and more song-based material; and is intended to show that there were a few more sides (many more to come, of course) to one of the last century's biggest musical phenomena. Some of the tracks included appear in EXCLUSIVE DJ FRIENDLY RE-EDITS courtesy of JOEY NEGRO himself. In a compilation brimming over with accessible earthiness, rawness and downright soulfulness, Joey and Sean continue their mission to help us understand how disco's influence is still shaping music 30 years after it broke into the mainstream. DISCO JUST GOT SOUL!

Makeness & Adult Jazz - Other Life

Makeness&Adult Jazz

Other Life

Warner UK
20.12.2016

On 'Other Life' the creative forces of Scottish producer MAKENESS and art pop four piece Adult Jazz combine to create an addictive slice of catchy disco-not-disco with post-punk influences.

MAKENESS is the name of producer and songwriter Kyle Molleson. Having grown up in The Outer Hebrides it was at Leeds Uni that he meet Harry Burgess, Steven Wells, Tim Slater and Tom Howe of Adult Jazz. Drawing on influences from Afro Beat, New-Wave and techno in 2015 he had his debut release 'Laca-Langa', a thundering percussive track. Adult Jazz released two lovingly received records, 2014's 'Gist Is' and 2016's 'Earrrings Off!' (on Tri-Angle) and have established themselves as one of Britain's finest new experimental pop groups, with lyrics that tackle questions of identity and belief.
Prior to the release on Meno Records, a then unreleased 'Other Life' was remixed by Whities producer Minor Science. 15 dub plates were pressed up and stamped with MXMS, finding their way to Jamie XX, Ben UFO and Roman Flügel, who all played the track. The original track is now being released by Meno Records, with a limited run of 300 12' as well as being made available digitally. Fans of avant-disco will rejoice at the sound, with its loose and un-quantized groove, synth squeaks, flourishes and off-kilter vocal falsetto, it's the artists but not as you know them and totally addictive. MAKENESS and Adult Jazz let their hair down and follow Arthur Russell's advice, 'First Thought, Best Thought'.

Introducing Broken Dreams, a new series of white label releases on Rotterdam based Pinkman label. First up is Metropolis, who returns with four Wave, Electro and Body Music hybrids. A quartet of tracks that draw on Lapien's diverse catalogue, this is undoubtedly some of his darkest music to date. Acid, New Beat and Post-Punk influences bubble and churn throughout. Crisp beats crash, strings lament, vocals sigh and synth stabs squirm for an EP that refuses to conform to norms. A hoarse and harsh cry to open a new Pinkman chapter.

Red Rack'em - Self Portrait

Red Rack'em

Self Portrait

2x12inchBERGLP001
Bergerac
16.02.2017

2016 was a huge year for Red Rack'em with his smash hit 'Wonky Bassline Disco Banger' being hammered by just about everybody all over the place. It's been one of the biggest tracks of the year so far in the underground scene with The Black Madonna professing it as her 'track for the summer' on Pete Tongs Miami special on Radio 1 and a whole host of other DJs (including MCDE, Mr Scruff, Mano Le Tough and Detroit Swindle) jumping on board it's cracked out and super fresh take on disco house.Wonky Bassline is the culmination of a producer spending years honing his craft and while the world was justifiably going crazy to it, Danny Berman was quietly putting the final touches to his first 'proper' Red Rack'em artist album, which is aptly titled 'Self Portrait'.Released on his own label Bergerac 'to retain complete creative freedom', the album is a super personal journey through the many facets of house, disco and club music that Berman has explored in his 22 years as a DJ and 10 years of releases for Philomena, Ramp, Phonica, Wolf Music, City Fly and of course on his own labels Bergerac and Nettles.Focussing on sample heavy, off kilter yet danceable grooves, it's an extended trip through the mind of a true auteur who truly has his own unique perspective of what house music should sound like and how it should function in the club.Berman says that he was working on the album over a period of 'at least 4 years' and the music has been specially selected from 'stacks of tracks' so rest assured only the best has made the cut. The artwork comes from an old high school friend Abby Smith who got in touch with Danny via Facebook and asked if she could paint him. As it was the first contact they had had for many years, it seemed like fate and created the album concept - a true musical self portrait. The album opens with 'April Fool', an optimistic, sweet jam with a sun drenched halcyon feel. Super emotional and built for those eyes closed moments on the dancefloor.'Hot Weekend' features NZ ice queen City Hayes on vocals - this is a full on Detroit influenced monster with a rolling breakbeat and vintage Planet E/Recloose vibes. Hayes sings of debauched times while the music simultaneously peaks out on a UPS. Big!'Something That I Thought About ' shows Bermans thoughtful side. Super deep yet driving with a slightly melodic techno feel. 'I want you to show me how to love you every day''Wonky Bassline Disco Banger' is present here in its full form but comes with a brand new intro constructed from a fan video. A monster of a track which drops again and again - Danny shows us just how far you can stretch the disco house formula to explore new heights.Side B closes with 'Mad House' which is a super sinister, garage influenced warehouse banger designed to wreck the discotheque. Sinister rolling hi hats and held notes build the tension while offbeat snares and staccato bass slap the listener round the head.'Tomato Pope' is another biggie which harks back to the Africanism days with its North African influenced sound. Huge swinging beats, a system testing bassline and dubby delays make for an almighty party smasher which is sure to see plenty of play. Tomato Pope indeed....

Several years ago Red Rack'em interviewed Detroit legend Rick Wade on his much loved Smugglers Inn Radio show. During the interview, Rick reminisced about his teenage years listening to music and imagining how he could present this fascinated feeling to other people in a club context. The rest is history for Rick and it's the inspiration for 'The Music'. As well as featuring Ricks spoken words on the track it's a heads down Deep House number which is not a million miles away from some of the early Rick Wade tracks which influenced Berman.

Cosmic disco house anthem alert...'Kos Mich' is a track which Rack'em has been testing out at gigs over the last couple of years and it's also had quite a lot of other labels requesting to release it as well. But thankfully, it's place on the album is safe. This is another big club track with that elusive deep yet big room feel. Kos Mich baby!

Things slow down a touch with 'Sel' but the club wrecking ball potential remains. This is Danny demonstrating his well-rehearsed beat down skills with a super swampy, bluesy hoe down of a track which is already picking up a lot of attention from recent club plays. More of a slow BANG than a slow Jam.

'You Used To Make Me Feel' closes the album with an off the wall dissection of why some people choose to have sex. 'I like to do it to unwind' professes Berman while the beats skitter and scatter before resolving into something resembling a normal beat.

Pole Jam Vinyl
15.02.2017

The guys at Pole Jam Vinyl have spent most of the last year involved in an undying quest to seek out new, exciting music.
They would neither be stopped by the Russian tundras nor the deserts of Australia in their search.Funnily enough, it was actually down-under they discovered Sydney based duo 'Falqo' with their brilliantly chilled and melodic number Across The Sea'.Then, it really was 'across the sea' they went, all the way to the Ukraine, picking up Sasha Anastasov's laidback, groovy smasher 'Sea For Two'. Next up was a much shorter trip to Moscow to collect Gayana, a band very much on the rise whose 'Since The Night' has been perfectly reinterpreted by Pole Jam's very own St. Petersburg based all-stars KLar&PF. Pioneerball is the solo project of Tesla Boy's lead guitarist who makes his second appearance on Pole Jam Vinyl. This time Pioneerball contributes the stunning opening track 'Deltaplane', a track influenced by obscure Russian cinematic soundtracks. It's combined perfectly with a compelling disco groove, jazzy melodies and organic strings that will make your heart melt. Back home, with the search having come to a successful conclusion, the Pole Jam Vinyl boys celebrated with a pint - or two !

System Status - Pale & Crazy Ep

After a three year hiatus Night Sweats Music artist System Status is back with his first outing for People Must Jam.
The four-track Pale & Crazy EP sees a return to the experimental uptempo sounds of UK producer Dave Rendle. The mind behind System Status and The Detroit Urban Gardening Ensemble, Dave's music on Untracked, Out Here Audio, Horn Wax and Stupid Human has caught the attention of global tastemakers such as Gilles Peterson, Phil Asher, Ashley Beedle, Alex Nut and Ross Allen as well as receiving the remix treatment from another previous PMJ artist - Inkswel. The record kicks off with the title track which is a perfect representation of Dave's music style: loose rhythms, rising pads, little quirky vocal snatches, deep chords and fantastic funky squiggly synth work. Great vibes all round! Pale and Crazy is inspired by either; one of Dave's friend's now ex girlfriend or his own ghostly complexion!
Jiran Jaran - born out of a conversation that started on the dance floor at the Worldwide Festival, the question what would a half Iranian and half Japanese musical collaboration call themselves Jiran Jaran was born! Henry Wu was highly influential on this one.
Janice was a late addition to the record and it is probably our favourite. Using some of the musical teachings of a well known Antipodean musician, Dave uses everything he learnt to create a truly amazing track with just enough chord progressions and melodies to make the noodleiest of Jazz musicians smile.
The warm tones of his Arp Axxe shining through. We are hoping Gilles Peterson and Floating Points may get on this one.
Back of the Yards is another special cut - the oldest one on the ep. A Mr Fingers inspired bass sound with more Chicago and French/Canadian influences...interesting Check it out!
We are really excited to have been able to share this with everyone. Like all of our records - pressed on heavy duty 180gm vinyl. We hope you like it.

Ojeda Penn - Lost Funk & Disco Gems Vol Six : Official Ep

As part of our 10 years anniversary this year after starting the label back in 2006 Mukatsuku is proud to release the remastered holy grail instrumental long version co produced by Tommy Stewart of 'Brotherson' from Atlanta USA resident Ojeda Penn with the other version on the flip on a 180 gram 12 inch single There were two versions of the album Happiness on the IFE independent label. They looked almost identical but the first version contained the now rarer elongated jazz fused instrumental version of 'Brotherson' and then a few months later they recut the album with a much shorter version adding strings and vocals.
The former version is now being sold up to £500 so this 12 is a welcome release to the reissue market. According to Mr Penn this is the first time either version has been reissued officially and Mukatsuku after many years of discussion is glad to finally be in a position to finally put out both versions on one phat 12''

Fatima/the Mamluks - Yalla Yalla

A special DJ double pack from Emotional Rescue brings together a collection of Razormaid remixes, plus unreleased originals, of two projects from Georg Kajanus, the founder of 70s pop group, Sailor and 80s synth poppers, DATA. With a career spanning late 60s psychedelic folk-rock in Eclection, through to chart success as a member of 70s pop group, Sailor, before embracing the synthesised sound of early 80s New Wave and Synth Pop via the excellent DATA, Georg Kajunas music has covered a lot of ground. Therefore, it should be no surprise that as DATA became established he was pushing the electronic pop sound in a new direction, mixing with it an interest in middle-eastern music obtained from time spent travelling there during his youth. Forming both Fatima and also, And The Mamluks as two separate but joined entities to push this musical vision, these projects saw a number of songs created, but ultimately never released, that utilised the growing interest in World music mixed with a dance floor sensibility. At the same time, the success of DATA had spread across the Atlantic to the US club scene where literally hundreds of clubs were embracing the new European electronic sounds. Out of this scene came a number of re-edit and remix specialists, of which San Francisco's Razormaid were predominant. Taking 80s pop to industrial dance songs and extending them officially or often unofficially, their reworks have since become highly sought after. While sadly both Fatima and And The Mamluks never acheived official releases, the remixes done by Joseph Wyatt and his partner, Art Maharg, while on a trip to Europe, did appear on their own Razormaid label in the mid-80s. Here then for the first time are those remixes, plus the never heard before unreleased originals -remastered and released especially in a DJ style double pack for some proper late night megamixing.

LeonxLeon is Red Laser's man in Paris & an integral member of the infamous Les Yeux Orange collective.
After dropping several tracks for the collectable Red Laser EPs LeonxLeon exports four monster jams melding metallic disco with slo-mo italo & breezy electro-funk.
'Beefcake' comes up with electroid percussive beats & stabbing synths before settling into a tightly wound groove punctuated by boogie-esque trims & details. The tempo is dropped down for 'I Am After All'. A growling bass bumps up against Italo-noir keys providing a deeply satisfying nugget of chuggers paradise.
'My Solar Brass' skips around the floor working an uplifting groove equally suitable for both sunset & sunrise.
Finally 'The Train Tracks', included on the hard to find Red Laser EP5, is remixed by LeonxLeon's Parisian comrade Al Dente.
The original is worked up into a higher pitch & brightened, finding new emotions amongst the highly pumped elements.
The release is limited to 180 copies. Hand-stamped labels in neon colours & in textured grey card sleeves.

Red Fetish - A Derangement Of Synapses

Medical Records presents a hand-picked selection of home recorded demos from Stoke, UK's Red Fetish. Armed with a Korg 770, Yamaha CS10, Korg Rhythm 55, a guitar here and there and a Teac 244 four track recorder, the band consisted of Neale James Potts and Mike Richardson. Red Fetish featured members from All The Madmen and Decades By Night and later evolved into The Cone and Tiger Club. These tracks were recorded in 1982-83 and all culled from various cassettes that the band recorded. The tracks for this special release (technically not a reissue) were hand picked by Medical Records out of a large demo collection (often multiple versions of certain songs). Red Fetish was heavily influenced by UK late 70's new wave as well as rock staples such as Pink Floyd, Beatles, and Hawkwind. The songs are built from very minimal and sparse synth lines yet the overall feel is interestingly dense and warm. Standout tracks include the playful and futuristic "Modern Age" and "The Last Man". A few of these tracks were previously released (different version) on a 7" on Anna Logue (Germany) but most have been largely unheard until now. Sprinkled in amongst the catchy vocal pop songs are quite a few very warm and synth heavy instrumentals as well such as "The Immortals" and "Blaze". This collection will absolutely be another piece of the highly intriguing and ever-deep well of minimal synth acts such as other contemporaries Oppenheimer Analysis, Twilight Ritual, Iron Curtain, and the like. Certainly fans of early Human League (especially The Future), early cassette culture wave and similar will enjoy this collection immensely. Remastered from cassette by Martin Bowes. Presented on high-quality 180gram heavyweight half and half colored vinyl (red and white) with sleeve design by Steve Lippert. Limited edition release.

Okinawa Delays Feat. Satoko Ishimine - Nariyama Ayagu

OKINAWA DELAYS FEAT. SATOKO ISHIMINE - NARIYAMA AYAGU Claremont 56 / Limited-edition 10' single with obi strip
Claremont 56 has always had close links with Japan's vibrant music scene, with founder
Paul 'Mudd' Murphy making annual trips for DJing and live performances. It's perhaps
unsurprising, then, that the label's latest limited-edition vinyl release comes from Japanes
outft Okinawa Delays, a project founded by producer, DJ and long-time friend of the labe
Takeo.
Some of you may already be familiar with Okinawa Delays thanks to 2016's Hana, a cove
of a popular 1995 J-pop hit featuring original vocalist Satoko Ishimine. The singer is a we
known performer in her native Japan, having released a number of acclaimed records on
Toshiba EMI throughout the 1990s.
Ishimine's breathtakingly beautiful vocals come to the fore on 'Nariyma Ayagu', Okinawa
Delays' frst single for Claremont 56. On his spellbinding remix, regular Claremont 56
contributor Phil Mison wraps Ishime's haunting vocals around dreamy, drifting synthesize
and electric piano chords, glistening acoustic guitars, and sparkling, sunrise-friendly
electronics.
Even by the Balearic maestro's usual high standards, Mison's remix is stunning. It's
accompanied by a vocal-free, delay-laden dub for those who want to revel in his poignan
mood-enhancing production.
On the fip, and on Murphy's suggestion, Ishimine re-joins Okinawa Delays for a cover of
Kamiko Kasai's popular 1977 Japanese disco cut 'Vibration'. Breezier, looser and notabl
sunnier than Kasai's version, the Okinawa Delays interpretation moves further towards jaz
funk whilst retaining the original's groovy positivity. With Ishimine providing another stellar
vocal performance, Takeo's assembled band delivers the goods, and then some.
Claremont 56 will release Nariyama Ayagu in April 2017. Only 324 (pressing came in a bi
short!) copies of the 10' single will be available worldwide.
Limited edition 10', numbered to 350 (only 324 pressed)

Various - 10 Years Stil Vor Talent, Pres. By Olive

INCL DOWNLOADCODE Over the course of the past ten years, Stil vor Talent has striven to support emerging young artists, to continuously broaden and redefine its sound, and, ultimately, to create lasting memories, both on and off the dance floor. The dance floor is the place where we gather to leave the worries of our everyday lives behind, and, for those few moments, form a bond, which transcends the final track of the night. A bond between each other; between the artist and the dancer; between ourselves and the music. On '10 Years Stil vor Talent' we celebrate this bond and say 'Thank you'.

Sofrito Super Singles - Soweto Disco Ep

Sofrito Super Singles

Soweto Disco Ep

SOFRITO
23.08.2010

New limited edition series from Sofrito: Sofrito Super Singles, which will bring to light the finest reissues of rare and forgotten tropical dancefloor sounds. The debut release celebrates the Afro-disco and boogie scene of South Africa, - where Salsoul meets Soweto. Comes housed in a new look Sofrito house sleeve.

The three track EP features Teaspoon & The Waves - led by veteran alto player Teaspoon Ndelu. They released one album in 1980, covering a mix of disco and funk sounds for the SA dancefloors. Oh yeh Soweto is a cheeky version of Lamont Dozier's Going Back To My Roots - changing the lyrics and toughening up the beats, but with the same killer riffs. Saturday Night Special is from the same LP, a spaced out Afro Disco groove with excellent percussion and psychedelic synths, re-edited by the Sofrito team.

The B side features a track by the Nzimande Allstars - another mysterious group of session musicians. The drawn out groove of Highway Sporo Disco fuses a heavy disco backing with jive guitar and stellar horns and organ for a unique taste of the underground sound of the Cape.

Coming up soon on Sofrito Super Singles will be a slice of Trinidad Soca Disco and some raw Haitian sounds.
