Over the decades they have blessed turntables and eardrums with a slew of classic club records, look at any list of DJ's choices or benchmark dance records and you'll see - 'Doctor Love', 'Love & Happiness', 'Armed & Extremely Dangerous', 'Double Cross', 'Love Thang' and many, many more! A truly legendary group, First Choice came from humble beginnings during their student years in their native Philly. Off the back of some promising local appearances and some radio play they ended up working under the watchful eye of impresario Norman Harris who was managing soul legends The Delfonics. The rest, as they say, is Disco history!

French artist Marc Nguyen Tan released two renowned albums in the early 2003 and 2006 under the artist name Colder on Trevor Jackson's seminal label Output Recordings. In november 2015, Colder returned after a decade in hiatus with his third, highly acclaimed album Many Colours followed by two other LPs titled The Rain and Goodbye in 2016.
Kasper Bjorke is one of the most acclaimed and versatile producers and DJs hailing from Denmark. Kasper has released five renowned solo albums over the past decade and remixed a wide range of artists, from Rebolledo to Weval.
The two artists first started working together when Kasper remixed Colders single 'Your Kind' - and Colder in return remixed Bjørke´s track 'Marbled Blood'. The idea to take their collaboration even further was formed when the two of them met in person during Sonar Festival in Barcelona in 2015. In 2016 they then teamed up in the RedBull Studio in Paris for a three day improvised recording session.
The result is the Black Magic EP in stores on September 8th via Throne of Blood. A collection of five raw, driving post punk / new wave and techno influenced compositions, recorded via the studio SSL desk in Paris, using hardware synths and drum machines played through some exotic vintage effects. Colder recorded his mesmerizing vocals on the spot along with French drummer Julien Sabourin and saxophone player Thibaut Javoy.
The EP will be followed by a stellar remix package from The Golden Filter (Optimo Music), Mutado Pintado (Paranoid London) and French producer and dj Pilooski.

The latest release on Guy Gerber's successful label RUMORS is a remix EP of The Dying Seconds' song 'Mora Minn'. Guy Gerber himself turns in a dub remix, whilst Acid Mondays and Elie Nissan & Jenia Tarsol's tales feature on the B side.
Guy's remix see the acclaimed DJ and producer turning the starting point into a wholly new and original sounding release. The dub mix puts Guy's outstanding production into the spotlight. Subtle yet intricate, Guy's take on the record pulls together echoing piano chords, a delicate guitar line and emotive, building strings over a gently propulsive bassline. It'll be familiar to those who have frequented Guy's famous RUMORS events series this season, with Guy's road testing of the release prompting many fans to ask what this new, distinctively Gerber-stamped track could be.
Meanwhile, RUMORS label and events mainstays Acid Mondays take the track into deeper and darker territory, with a faster paced beat and sub-bass flourishes offsetting trippy vocal samples.
Two fellow Tel Aviv talents, Eli Nissan and Jenia Tarsol, round off the EP with a rework that matches more of the original's drums, vocals ethereal piano line with amplified percussion and a dancefloor ready bassline.
The EP drops towards middle of a busy season for the label and events series; RUMORS Ibiza has become one of the busiest and most talked about daytime events on the island, with international parties in the likes of LA, Mykonos, Sardinia and, most notably, a London street party selling out within hours. To accommodate his ever-expanding fanbase, Guy will be playing a landmark headline show at London's historic Roundhouse on the day after this release.

Drop Out Orchestra step in 2017 with a juicy 4 tracker party swinging EP. More sought-after gems from the Swedish - first up is a mighty take on the Stones classic ' Miss You' complete with funky guitars, driving live bass line, relentless percussion and disco strings galore. Yam Who rework in true fine fashion going deep on a hypnotic workout - with all the style of a Late Nite Tuff Guy production. The flipside doesnt dissappoint with the Drop Out's reconstructing the Frankie Knuckles house anthem 'Tears' - tough rhythms, vocoders & again with their trademark infectious live bass, spaced out guitars & dreamy atmosperics. Finally 'Where Is My Man' takes us into cosmic Italo disco land, orchestrated with deep piano chords over a pounding groove a must have for Pete Herbert & Ray Mangs fans out there.

Justin Van Der Volgen's My Rules label is back with its second release of 2016: the Lee Douglas edit of Soulful Dynamics - Jungle People.Given the nod and approved by the band, this is the version you've heard and been looking for over the last few years. Now finally seeing a proper release after many requests. Called by Resident Advisor a "Mareh anthem" referring to the New Year's Eve festival in Brazil and rinsed by DJs like Tim Sweeney, Psychemagick, and Eddie C, this record is pure Soul-Disco heat. Douglas takes the original, teases out the arrangement and turns the psychedelic knob to 100.
Simply stated, putting this record on is like pushing the button labeled "PARTY TIME." Vinyl only.

Brooklyn's Son of Sound joins hometown label Razor-N-Tape with The Dusty Files EP, a 4-tracker that embodies the gritty and driving sound of the borough.

The A-side kicks off with Your Voodo's Broken, a track that builds to mid-tempo looped perfection even before the floor-shaking bass drops, followed by the beguiling synth patterns and efficient yet driving drums of No Bullets Left.

On the flip side, Nude Jerzee eschews the bridges and tunnels and takes us straight to NJ by way of outer space, and then What Do You Feel floats us gently back to earth on a cloud of strings, electric pianos and a chugging disco beat.

GL return today with "Destiny", the first half of their forthcoming double a-sided single Destiny / Reflect as premiered via Clash & soon to be available on 12" - the first 100% independent release for the duo. Marathons began innocently, as a quick debut EP by an energetic Swedish duo we found on SoundCloud. Within a couple months of chatting with the pair, Artur Bra¨ndstrom and Egil Kahlbom, however, we realized our collaboration wasn't going to be simple, so cut and dry, so straightforward, and that's why we find ourselves here, a year after meeting them with a full album, not an in-and-out single, on our hands.
What made it complex and intricate, you ask Why'd we opt to squeeze eight originals into one long-player, you wonder Well, Artur and Egil are prolific dudes with fantastic ears and formidable work ethics. A couple of demos quickly sprouted offspring and became four, then six, then ten. Rather than fight the arbitrary desire to trim the spread down to a 12', we figured we'd aim higher and work on a proper album. What we constructed is, in a very classic sense, a long-player.
Here's that album! It's a sunny, loose, limber, uninhibited boogie through warm disco cuts and wobbly house jams and soulful funk slices. Daytime chill-out with a nightclub architecture—or peak hour mayhem with a bright, clearheaded euphoria. Marathons swings every which way and suits any mood, so drop that needle and try it on. Then repeat, repeat, repeat.

Life of Marvin is a Joint Venture between Manfredi Romano (aka Dj Tennis) and Marvin & Guy (Italo Deviance's Marcello Giordani and Alessandro Parlatore), these crazy Italian diggers went deep into the most obscure Italian Techno tunes from early 90's and what they discovered was quite amazing.There was a huge club scene in Tuscany during the mid-90s called 'Progressive Techno'. L.O.M. aim is to explore the sounds that preceded that movement The first EPs are giving new light to Tracks taken from the original catalogue of the Interactive Test Record label owned by Franco Falsini, that became key figures in the Italian Disco scene since early 80s (see Italo-Hit 'Electra feat. Tara Butler - Feels good') and the brother Riccardo.That label was the incubator of the whole pre-Progressive movement (1991-1993) and the first releases are coming from great djs and producers like Roby J, Francesco Farfa, Gabry Fasano, Marco Calderoni etc.The music genre is impossible to define properly... just give it a listen. This is the 1st Volume with monster dance floor tracks by Roby J and Sick Hardcore.

All taken from a 7 Inch collection accumulated over the years, you'll find no obvious cuts here, rather remakes of charming, imperfect records that otherwise may not see the light of day. Pierre Bastien is a French legend that has collaborated with artists such as Robert Wyatt, Jac Berrocal and Jaki Liebezeit, to name just a few. He is also very well known for his compositions based on home-made mechanical instruments, designed and constructed by Bastien himself. Pure DIY. Using these instruments he would create a heady experimental mix incorporating poetry and some far-out music, all in all very intriguing and original indeed. Needless to say when the notion of Pierre Bastien and Versatile Records potentially making a project together arose, it was a total honour! Throw into the mix esteemed electro-acoustic composer Eddie Ladoire and now we've really got something interesting. Eddie and Pierre met when they appeared on the same concert bill together and they decided to collaborate further with Versatile being the platform for the fruits of this particular project. The original version of 'Phantom Dance' is a beautiful piece where Bastien plays a trumpet into some water blended with electronic drums and mellow organs lines, creating an otherworldly, subterranean Jazz vibe for the freaks. Suzanne Kraft, the LA native / Amsterdam based producer turns the original into some mechanical broken funk vibes while Rotterdam's Oceanic delivers 2 fresh, reimagined versions. One for for the club with a strong afro beat feel while the other one is a slower affair for the after hours. Both mixes bringing something new to the table. A truly original and interesting release from some very talented people, for those with open ears and open minds!

Four floaty dubs & re-rubs from San Francisco's Ryan Bishop aka The Beat Broker (Bear Funk, Flexx, Adult Contemporary, etc). Many heads probably best know Ryan as the brains behind DREAM CHIMNEY, one of the longest-running and most consistently interesting online hangouts for like-minded music freaks.

This 12" busts loose with Satin Kimono, a funky floor-filler with the most perfect AOR song title in existence. "Make It Happen" cools the A-side down with a mellow yet uplifting soft rock groover, dubby voices beckon the listener to break free and never look back.
Honey It's You is a pumped up edit of an old 'Chimney classic and was crafted specifically as a wedding gift for fellow Dream Chimney member Hatchback - now available for the first time in a physical format! Larceny Dub soars to new heights of AOR bliss, featuring an extensive re-working of a record that was passed along to Ryan by an ex-Deadhead neighbor.

It's been two years - more or less - since the debut release of Editor's Kutz and the label proudly presents its sixth instalment right on summertime. Starting things off with a duo working really effectively lately, the label head "VinylAddicted" and the "Whiskey Disco" boss "Sleazy McQueen". Their "Free (From Social Narcotics)" has not only a powerful and acid message, but also a rolling beat and juicy bassline, frenzy looped keys and raw strings. True dopamine! Kinjo Music's kid, "Ed Wizard & Disco Double Dee", comes up next with a "Stellar Dub", a mid-tempo groover accompanied by a sweet trumpet and brass, fluffing the track with a very cosmopolitan style! Flip-side belongs to the label newcomers. First "The Silver Rider" uses his disco skills on a little known track. "Good Luvin' Baby" has that fatty and hearty beat, which in addition to the lazy guitars and female vocals is perfectly made for sun and sand dancing! Last but not least, "Doc Jam" samples a beloved disco hymn, lifting it to a more disco-house and bouncing level. Pressed on a chillin', doublemint opaque wax. After a couple of releases for the label, including notable remixes, plus the excellent recent 7 for Hoga Nord Rekords, Jamie returns to warm glow of Especial for a collective vinyl only EP of 4 unreleased remixes brought together for limited release.

Opening is his dark, brooding rework of See You In The Dark from Sexy Merlin's 2012 cassette only release Heater. Taking the 2mins + plus original and feeding it through modular and space echo environs, this long form remix has been alighting dance floors whenever aired. Throbbing bass and phased, twisted vocals pull the track deeper, all with that neu-wave touch that has become Jamie's hallmark whether sought or not!

Next Jamie turns to the Eastern melodies of Guy Schalom. The drummer and percussionist first came in to Paton's orbit via his partnership within Cage & Aviary and his remix here strips the original to his affinity with dub and bass. Horns rise and fall, driven by snare and guitar in a unique reversion of a version in the truest (es)sense. Roots and vulture y'all.

The B-side heads back deep with his wonderful remix of Gatos Negros's Overdrive. Taken from the bands 7th Life album on Spain's Rotten City, the interplay with arpeggio, bass and vocals shows why Jamie has his own unique following.

Closing the EP sees a return to a relationship first seen via Cage & Aviary's remixes of Blancmange in 2014. A mutual admiration achieved, the band requested a special remix of their rerecorded 1982 classic Feel Me. Jamie rebuilds the track with a nod to it's past, his own sound and also, as a final homage to nights remembered at the Brixton HQ years of World Unknown, where the original was such a highlight. Here comes a love song

Music is Love boss returns to his home label after a few brief excursions on Hot Creations & Viva Music last year, and he returns in style. 3 summer time slammers and a stella remix from the Mak & Pasteman boys. Middle Ground is a dusty filtered house track, aligned with a soaring string section, which narrate the warm uplifting journey this track lays down. Mandingo was made as a tool for Oli s sets last summer and after some huge reactions and some serious demand, Mandingo was set for a vinyl release. Big stabs and plenty of funk this track is party ready. On the flip we find Mak & Pasteman return to Music is Love after an appearance on the 3rd LOVEBOX VA in 2016. Piano4 is flipped into what these boys do best, Simple stripped back grooves delivered with stupendous power. On B2 is the original take on Piano4 which sees Oli flexing his power house muscles on this big piano track. Piano4 is an unrelenting beast that twists and turns its way through various passages of maximum intent.

It's already been 5 years since the last Zombie Zombie album 'Rituels d'un Nouveau Monde', after which the group explored other territories by signing 2 film scores, namely 'Loubia Hamra' by Narimane Mari and 'Irréprochable' by Sébastien Marnier, as well as creating the music accompanying a contemporary circus show called 'Slow Futur' created by Martin Palisse and Elsa Guérin. Wouldn't these beautiful parentheses make you want to return to the sources After 10 years at Versatile Records, 2017 also marks the decade anniversary of the release of their first album 'A Land for Renegades' in 2007, at the time considered to be one of the 10 best albums of the year according to Rough Trade.
'Livity' - Zombie Zombie's latest opus seems to plunge us deep into science fiction, with a cover designed by the mythic cartoonist Philippe Druillet, who is also the founder of the cult Métal Hurlant comic series. The title of the album is somewhat misleading, as one could mistakenly think of a certain dub record made at
the famous Island Records Compass Point studio in the Bahamas. For the uninitiated 'Livity' or 'Life force' is actually a Rastafarian spiritual concept based on the idea that an energy exists within, and flows through, all people and all living things. The record was recorded last winter in Paris, in a very short time frame. 7 tracks played live in 7 days, by Etienne Jaumet (synthesizers / rhythm box / metallophone / sax), Cosmic Neman (drums / vocals / sound effects), and Dr. Schonberg (percussion / electronics / trumpet), recorded at the Red Bull Studios by Thibaut Javoy and Jerome Caron, 2 very competent engineers. To keep it in the family, the album was then mixed by another member of the Versatile stable, the mysterious and legendary DJ/producer I:Cube, done in the label's Victor Studio.
On this album the principles that are dear to the group rest being respected, still as far away as always from the standards of 'radio play', A living kind of music, composed of long instrumental moments recorded with analog synthesizers and drum machines, accompanied by drums and percussion. But I:Cube's touch may bring the unique energy that one may find at Zombie Zombie's concerts; on certain cuts like title track 'Livity' that the group recorded in Laos, a wild combination of 808 kick drums and bewitching jungle sounds that sound quite unlike anything else out there, and especially on 'Hippocampe', which gives the impression of hearing an old school hip hop rhythm with the power of a metal band who have replaced their guitars with an army of synthesizers: we recommend you listen to this particular track in a convertible while speeding down the highway.
As with all of Zombie Zombie's music the cinematic component is still strong, on titles like 'Ils existent..' 'Acera' which was originally composed for ciné-concerts accompanying the films of Jean Painlevé et Maurice Pialat. The energy of the beginning is still very present, as is - of course - the kraut inspiration. But it's also an album that takes new directions and sonic risks, like on 'Looose', which brings to mind the Art Ensemble of Chicago, or the groove of James Chance in New York in the early 1980's, featuring the free sax solos of Etienne Jaumet and Dr. Schonberg on the trumpet. The group also offers some slower and calmer titles, like 'Heavy Meditation' as well as exploring more experimental tracks in the line of French 70's groups such as Lard Free or Richard Pinhas, for example on the bonus track 'Black Moon'.

A lot has happened since AL & THE KIDD stamped its first release and subsequently launched its reissue series debut back in 2011...beginning with the Sir Joe Quarterman E.P., which includes a previously unreleased version of his signature hit I've Got So Much Trouble In My Mind.AK1201 features the boogie funk production by Carl Maxx Kidd, just over 10 minutes of We Like To Party' as a two sided slammer! Considering that the production was recorded in July 1979 at Media Sound, Kidd was destined to get that disco boogie sound. He along with fellow musicians crafted two versions for us.

Chromatics turn the night into a woozy slow-mo disco ball twirl, and the titles say it all really: 'Tomorrow Is So Far Away', 'Let's Make This Moment A Moment To Remember'. The culmination is 'Tick Of The Clock', a quarter of an hour slowed almost to a stop. A flanged beat box ticks and a dense howl of organ chords crawls over vinyl crackle until eventually nothing is left but a slowly reverberating bassline. The night is over. After leaving the nightclub, the chill of the morning air is refreshing but still sends a shiver down the spine. - 4/5 Resident Advisor

B/E/A/T/B/O/X is a primer, to be sure, but it's a strong one beset with an LP's length and signifiers (an intro, strong sequencing, the penultimate instrumental). Glass Candy's previous false starts can now be dismissed as pulled punches, or a band in its genesis, either way, this record marks a flat-out improvement. B/E/A/T/B/O/X informally dashes Glass Candy as "OMG punks w/ synths" and officially announces Glass Candy: aggressive, formidable beat-mongerers. - 8.1/10 Pitchfork

The next instalment in the Dubplate series sees our very own Scrimshire step up to the plate for the fourth time!

Having gained huge amounts of radio play for his own productions, as well as the occasional cheeky re-edit, Scrimshire brings us two firing reworks of somewhat unsung soul singer, Margie Joseph.

Her version of I Can't Move No Mountains is given extra fire for the dance floor with plenty of twist and turns along the way, while her take on the Bill Withers classic The Same Love That Made Me Laugh, is given a little extra bounce that makes it a slightly more subtle club killer.

SOV is glad to welcome aboard the new family member for it's 12th cat. The Mole is a Canadian artist known for his music boutique interpreting elements of disco, jazz, hip hop and funk. Since this kind of game is also the core of our soul, we are happy to present 4 special tracks from him.

The 7-track compilation « Party People » concentrates a range of musical influences that will take you from New-York Garage House to groovy Nu-Disco and French House. The opening track, signed by a Slovak artist discovered on Soundcloud by the collective, is proof that House Music knows no borders.

JTT Originally from London, Jimmy moved to Bristol in '95, drawn by the Fresh 4, Full Cycle and the big Bristol sound. He started out DJing at house parties and renowned underground venues like Cosies. Bristol's melting pot, combined with his Gilles Peterson-inspired school years made for some eclectic roots. It was only a matter of time before playing other people's records wasn't enough Inspired by a Salsoul-sampled techno track (East End Trax's Chalk Line), with his first computer and some self-taught software Jimmy cut his first edit. Recutting tunes quickly became standard procedure, for his own sets quickly became the norm. Alexander was involved in promoting Underground Society at the now legendary Bowgie Nightclub in Newquay during the early 90s. Bringing in and DJing alongside the likes of Marshall Jefferson, DJ Disciple, Paul Trouble Anderson, Robert Owens and Noel Watson to an always packed out fortnightly event that closed at 12.30AM ! Probably the only Soulful and Deep House music night in Cornwall during the peak of the rave years.

We welcome back long-time First Word family, Souleance, with 'Bamboule', fresh from their respective cut-ups for our sister label, Excursions, and their recent 'Raw Funk' set, we have a 5-track EP containing something for all the family, crafted with love once again by France's Fulgeance & DJ Soulist. A truly eclectic collection, comprised of afro grooves, tropical vibes, b-boy rhymes, head-nodding shakers and intensely hype floor-fillers. A seriously fun selection.

It kicks off with 'Partay', a mid-tempo slice of bouncy tropical boogie that does exactly what it says on the tin. An effervescent synth-bassline rides on top of a delectable disco shuffle, complete with classic reggae chants.

Title track 'Bamboule' is a seriously energetic afro-funk beast. A truly infectious percussive rhythm track, laced with an immense bassline, vocal chops and synth rides, this one is 100% guaranteed to entice any dancefloor into a trance-like state of bugged-out body moves.

'That Guy' is some uptempo piano-rolling hip hop business, enlisting the help of Brooklyn MC, Von Pea, from the crew Tanya Morgan, who've been making noise on the independent hip hop scene for over a decade, as well as recently collaborating with GUTS.

We dip down to around the 85BPM mark for 'J'aime Marcher', a lounging boom bap bumper with sloppy drums, jazzy rhodes and vivacious horns.

Closing the EP is 'Brown Bags', an almost Dilla-esque cut-up, complete with rolling neck-breaking drums, sweet soul samples and stabs of prog rock. An abundance of variety, we think you'll agree.

For those that don't know, the Parisian duo hooked up just over a decade ago, and haven't stopped to rock & shock parties, clubs and festivals globally since, building a fan-base of solid party people and revered selectors along the way. As always, the wonderful Alice Dufay provides the artwork, making this an essential package for you and yours.
