The inimitable CC:DISCO! has partnered with hyped underground label Soothsayer to curate the first in a collaborative series of compilations entitled First Light. Soothsayer presents First Light: Volume 1 compiled by CC:DISCO! is due for release in February 2018 digitally and on vinyl.

Australia's reigning champion of tasteful electronic music, CC:DISCO! has procured exclusive tracks from emerging and undiscovered artists across genres such as boogie, balearic, funk, disco and house - with each sound piquing her interest, culminating in a finished product that would undeniably slot into a CC:DISCO! set. Her mission statement "Less chin stroking, more dancing." It captures what CC:DISCO! is all about: the dancefloor.

The very first taste of First Light comes in the form of a salty and sweet track called 'Really Want That' by Jace XL. Premiered via Resident Advisor, CC:DISCO! explains: "I remember the first time I heard Jace sing in a bar, at first I thought a DJ was playing then I looked up see Jace singing his guts out. He blew me away! Jace's voice is amazing and to me, a huge part of what's going on in Australian music, so it's with open arms we welcome him to First Light."

CC:DISCO! certainly knows how to work a d-floor. The fast-ascending Victorian DJ has enjoyed a meteoric rise in the last 12 months to be the name on everyone's lips. After cutting her teeth at Melbourne institutions like Daydreams and Boney, word began to spread of CC's paranormal dancefloor abilities and suddenly CC:DISCO! was officially 'a thing'. Within just a couple of years, she has crushed the closing set at Pitch Music and Arts Festival, and graced a multitude of festival stages such as Meredith (now scripted in local folklore), Croatia's Dimensions, and Sugar Mountain's hallowed Boiler Room. She slayed Resident Advisor's RA583 mix, and has nailed guest spots for radio giants NTS, Red Light Radio, triple j and Dublab as well as hosting her famed Friday evening show on PBS FM; Smoke and Mirrors. It wouldn't be an overstatement to say she is now one of the biggest Australian DJs on the planet.

CC:DISCO! has become a staple presence at Soothsayer parties since the birth of the label two years ago, and an easy family dynamic developed. That family has come together for Volume 1 of First Light: a collection of brand new tracks from Australia and New Zealand's thriving local scenes. Jace XL will be keeping good company on the compilation with the inclusion of tracks from Sui Zhen, Chord Memory Band, Nite Fleit, Rings Around Saturn, Manuel Darquart and Love Deluxe just to name a few, with the full track listing and release date being revealed in the new year. These songs - sourced by CC:DISCO! through chance meetings, fangirl moments and dogged emails - come together to create a body of music that is oddly satisfying and timeless. Yan Tregger can be considered as one of those composers and
instrumentalists who have successfully explored various musical styles during their career, a true experimentalist with a motley repertoire, including Pop, Soul, Jazz, Rock, and even Disco, he remains a must-have for connoisseurs.

From the 1960s to the present day, whether as a composer, arranger or conductor, he is the author of more than 25 albums intended for the library music. The majority of his timeless works, coveted by "diggers" around the world nowadays, set his uncommon productions well apart. With their singular arrangements and rhythms which have the particularity of "sticking" to each musical era, his music continues to delight DJ's and other beatmakers.

This reissue of CATCHY, allows the listener to rediscover musical moments from an era full of inventiveness. A spirit of creativity very hard to match again today...

Harvey Sutherland's latest 12 marks the inaugural release for Clarity Recordings, an imprint established by Sutherland for modern Australian records.The first new music from the Melbourne producer since last year's cuts for MCDE, the double A-side Priestess / Bravado features his live trio Bermuda at full tilt, with an ensemble of hand clapping friends. Self-described lounge room disco burners, the record summons the groove experiments of Patrick Adams, Bill Laswell and Arthur Russell, while retaining Harvey's soulful tones and club-ready arrangements.
Priestess evolves slowly, a nine-minute mind dance that ultimately reaches a celestial state. Sutherland's piano lines bounce off drummer Graeme Pogson's unwavering four-on-the-floor, while one-man string section Tamil Rogeon travels skyward. Live standout Bravado is played with determined precision, locking into a tough backbeat that only breaks once Sutherland's warbling lead solo approaches its resonant peak.
Harvey Sutherland and Bermuda will release Priestess / Bravado 12 and digital worldwide on 4 November 2016, via Clarity Recordings and Above Board Distribution.

Dark Entries Editions is proud to reissue "Perfect High" the 1983 debut 12' by Peppermint Lounge from Germany. The group consisted of Matthias Elvers (synthesizers, bass), Regina Petersen (vocals) and Jorg Burckhardt (drums, strings). They took their name from a popular 1960s discotheque in New York City. Treading the lines between Italo Disco, Electro, and New Wave, the trio crafted a unique sound difficult to classify. Regina's powerful vocals command attention as they tell the sad tale of a boy searching for the perfect high. The lyrics are based on the poem The Perfect High' by Shel Silverstein. Melancholic arpeggiators, a throbbing baseline, stuttering samples, vocoder and the classic Roland TR-808 drum machine run throughout the track, which builds to a majestic crescendo, ala Klaus Schulze or Jean-Michel Jarre. This reissue includes the original vocal version, backed with a shorter instrumental version.

All songs have been remastered for vinyl by George Horn at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley. The 12' is housed in an exact replica of the original sleeve with black and white Dali-esque drawing. Each copy also includes a 2-sided postcard lyrics and notes.

New York underground disco on Peter Brown's Land of Hits label (P&P affiliated), produced by Osborne Hunter and Steve Boston. Two nice versions with long percussive breakdowns, sound quality is not the best but playable.
One of the most powerful Disco Cuts in the P&P Affiliate Land of Hits' Label, New York's Movin' is
faithful to the name. A seven-plus minute Disco Gem of percussive breakdowns, a solid bass groove, classic strings, and enough guitar licks to make Nile Rodgers a little jealous. Released in 1981, Ahzz was a studio project by Osborne Hunter and Steve Boston who's better known for his work with Kenny Lehman on
Roundtree and Lemon. Despite the Backlash of Comiskey Park's Disco Demolition in 1979 and the commercialization of Disco, it was clear New York City was Still Movin' in '81. Underground hits like these were just undeniable. Like a lot of the titles on Peter Brown's labels, today New York' Movin' is a rare and highly sought after record. A holy grail for many. Heads may not know it, but Olmos (real name Oliver Graham) has been one of the busiest influencers on Australia's underground music culture this side of the 90s. Through family-run operation Paradise Loft Records, he has quietly imported thousands of dead stock Disco, Boogie and early House records into crates across the country - affording tastemakers a slice of digging culture only a trip to NYC would previously have allowed.

Thus Ol's arrival at Gulf Point gleams with the jewels you'd expect from a producer with such inspired tastes. These are set free on Luna's Groove', a star-chasing collection of nouveau post-disco works, crafted in earnest with dancers in mind. Raised on a healthy diet of Levan mixes and M+M dubs, his own use of juicy Moog basses, progressive arrangements and glittering melodies have bought forth an EP which modestly harnesses the New York Garage aesthetic he loves so dearly.

Three Olmos originals are teamed with an astral mix by Benny Badge, reigniting his Freekwency namesake to redo the title with cosmic pads and the gravitational pull of a timeless 808 sequence. Jack Doepel, known for his work with Melbourne's rising Krakatau, also makes an appearance on sax - landing this interstellar mission somewhere on Jupiter's fifth moon, Rhea.

This is Ollie and Benny's second meeting, the first being Freekwency's Flip The Coin' on Voyeurhythm. Recorded in 2011, their collaboration fuelled a simmering Boogie revival and remains in high demand alongside similar transmissions from Tom Noble, Psychic Mirrors and PPU. Since then, Olmos' evolution has scored him some deserved points of his own - Luna's Groove' however, may have just hit the bulls-eye.

Fresh, freaking, booty-booting updates of classic eighties electro-boogie like Jam & Lewis and the Troutmans, by this mainstay of the current Toronto scene. Ace.

Rune returns on his own Drum Island imprint, this time very ably assisted by UK House turned ambient ambassador Chris Coco
Weekend Billionaires, in its original form is a delightfully lolloping Balearic builder.The Chris Coco Sunshine mix immerses those guitar licks and synth pads in a sea of dubbed out, ultra-violet light. Already rumoured to be included on Harvey's eagerly awaited Mercury Rising comp. Anton Klint (Tryck & Ton / Public Possession) steps up on the flip with a no-less psychedelic, but decidedly more laser-lit interpretation.
Finally Alta Lab wraps things up with a pacier interpretation, Housing up the elements into a hypnotic, emotive rendition...

Kiwi AKA Alex Warren, returns to Futureboogie after 2016's well received 'Orca' EP (which picked up support from the likes of DJ Harvey, PBR Streetgang, Manpower, Kate Simko & many more) with the cinematically sprawling 'Amityville' EP.

With all the intensity and menace of the supernatural events immortalised in Rosenberg's 1979 horror flick, 'Amityville' leans on Lalo Schifrin's classic score and serves up a chugging disco-fied monster. Arpeggiated synths and those memorable vocal refrains from the movie build a mood of anticipation that flourishes into sections of pure wigged out disco business. It's a very clever and unique production, and one that we served up to DJ Tennis for re-interpretation.

Following on from recent remixes for The Juan Maclean and Tricky, as well as a spectacular DJ Kicks mix for !K7, DJ Tennis remoulds 'Amityville' into a deep and delicate house groove, introducing some guitar riffing and deft mallet instrumentation whilst manipulating the original components to mesmerizing effect.

On 'Warriors', Kiwi continues his unabashed love of cult movies with a musical ode that captures the edgy and urban sounds of 70s cinematic synth soundtracks; phasing guitar riffs, rolling snares and dramatic synth sweeps dominate this infectious track. And closing the release, 'Paco' is a melody fuelled and studious production; wandering keys drift over a steady beat and filtering bassline combo whilst the synths pitch bend and flex, resulting in a gloriously trippy ambience throughout.

Copenhagen-based label Music For Dreams are extremely proud to unleash the debut album of Sweden's Prins Emanuel.
Released in double vinyl format, Emanuel's first full length solo project is a concept album revolving around the medium of the record itself. With a functionalist's attitude, each of the vinyl records can serve a different purpose. Translated from Swedish, the album title literally reads "Work/Leisure Time" and the contrasting moods of the two discs are meant to reflect. So on a Friday evening, you might tell your girl or boy to put on the A/B sides as you're getting ready to bust some moves that night. And on Sunday evening, you tell him/her to put on the C/D sides as you're relaxing and tapping up a bath. Although this is a multi-instrumentalist's vision, the fact that Prins is primarily a drummer is clearly evident in the masterful hypnotic grooves that form the base on which the whole album stands. And while elements of dub, boogie, afro, house and new age flicker by as we ride along on these motorik rhythms, the balance between warmth and repetition provokes a constant tickling irrestistible tension. For fans of the young Swede's former output with the Fasaan/Chalice label (especially his collaborations with label mate Golden Ivy), this superb LP will surely not disappoint. This compilation is dedicated to Zoltán Balla aka Galactic Jackson on the occasion of his 40th birthday. Galactic Jackson is a very individual character in Budapest's electronic music scene: his eclectic vinyl only DJ sets, clothing style, moustache, facial expressions, and funny comments are all part of his image. However, it is not a fake persona; he is really like this. Zoltán is also famous for his magical 'Ballacid Studio', which is one of the biggest analog synthesizer collections in Hungary. J. Mono is an old friend of Galactic Jackson from Lajosmizse, Hungary. The artist is a songcrafter-synthjammer mastermind from the trio Wedding Acid Group and his first solo EP 'Zzz' was recently released on Dalmata Daniel.Silvio is an alias of the well-known Budapest-based musician Route 8, who is famous for his analogue-rich workouts and IDM-inspired but dancefloor-oriented sounds.It is not necessary to introduce the Norwegian EOD to those who are familiar with IDM and acid scenes. Among others, he has releases on the famous labels Rephlex and 030303. Hypnotic is the producer of the Hungarian new wave band Nouvelle Phénomène (Bordello A Parigi).

Giving the shine to their 45 series for this year's Record Store Day, RNT welcomes back Lovebirds aka Sebastian Doering with a slice of chilled-out analog soul. Although primarily known for his nu-disco and house productions, Lovebirds is a seasoned hand at all things deep, and Icarus shows the smoky late-nite side of Basti's skilled production style. An all-original tune, Icarus layers jazzy vintage electric pianos over restrained but head-nodding percussion, with Galliano's soulful vocal soaring above it all. The ever consistent Tall Black Guy delivers a 90's-esque boom-bapper of a mix, with an added verse from 80's Babies for good measure. Moods works the track into a slo-mo stomper on his mix, complete with stuttering synth bass and driving percussion. A Boogie classic from '81 on the legendary SAM label out of New York city! K.I.D. is the production pseudonym of British library record stalwart and Munich Machine member Geoff Bastow. Bastow's career has been an extremely colourful one seeing him work with various artists including Amanda Lear, Elton John, Donna Summer and La Bionda amongst many others. "Hupendi Muziki Wangu" is Swahili for "You Don't Like My Music" and the track has long been a classic with underground Disco/Boogie aficionados for many years and has been a staple in the record bags of many legendary jocks since it's release 35+ years ago. On the flipside we are treated to "It's Hot", another sleek cut of early 80's Boogie perfection aimed squarely at the dancers. ossession Records proudly present the new album by Soft Riot, entitled 'The Outsider In The Mirrors'.Soft Riot is the stylised musical alter-ego of JJD, Canadian by birth and an ex-resident of London and Sheffield, now based in Glasgow (so not unfamiliar with sites of post-industrial decay!). With over twenty years of playing in various post-punk and synth-punk bands, he has been crafting the sound of Soft Riot since the early turn of the decade, releasing a slew of albums across a multitude of labels and touring obsessively around Europe and beyond.With 'The Outsider In The Mirrors', his sixth full-length, he has found a new home for his sound on Possession Records, a fledgling Glasgow imprint founded by JJD, Claudia Nova (aka Hausfrau) and Andy Brown (Ubre Blanca). Their aim is to bring together their pool of musical talents and provide a more permanent home for their future creative endeavours, whether it be music, video or otherwise and to experiment with what it is to be a 'label' in the ever evolving 21st century. Future projects and releases will see them getting a select group of their peers and friends involved in Possession's focused vision, locally or from further afield.'The Outsider...' is a consolidation of all the stylistic elements Soft Riot has pursued in the past; the manic propulsive energy of 'Waiting For Something Terrible To Happen', the infectious, off-kilter dynamics of opener 'The Eyes On The Walls' and the pulsing, elegiac synth washes of 'The Saddest Music In The World'. Throughout the album Soft Riot fuses his maximalist sonic palette with a sharp-edged sense of post-punk anxiety, unique synth interplay and brooding, claustrophobic new-wave dread. Comparisons to musical kindred spirits like John Foxx, DAF, early Depeche Mode, Fad Gadget and Virgin-era Cabaret Voltaire would be analogous, but JJD is defiantly fusing these basic references into something highly idiosyncratic and personal.
The music on 'The Outsider...' is evocative of an kind of nostalgic futurism, of a refusal to give up on a desire for the future (dystopic or otherwise) and the unpredictable nature of the urban situation. The music is tense, synthetic and precise, embodying and exploring issues of isolation, urban alienation and social paranoia. Yet despite these dark thematic preoccupations the Soft Riot sound is not without its warmth and humour. Wry and self aware without irony, the songs are hook laden, infuriatingly catchy and designed for dancing as much for static listening. It is a peculiarly Soft Riot take on the electro pop sound that will engross and captivate any adventurous listener.
