Afro Funk, Disco and Boogie: West African Disco Mayem!
Soul Jazz Records' new Nigeria Soul Fever is their first release to explore the vast wealth of Nigerian music recorded in the 1970s. The new album comes with introductory sleeve-notes by Bill Brewster (author of Last Night A DJ Saved My Life).
Packed-full with Afro-Funk, Disco and Boogie all from Nigeria, this triple album/double CD set brings together a stunning collection of diverse West African sounds. Whilst a small handful of the artists featured (Joni Haastrup, Tee Mac, Christy Essien) have seen the light of day outside Africa, this is essentially a collection of killer tracks by an array of artists completely unknown outside of Nigeria. Artists such as Don Bruce & The Angels, Akin Richards & The Executives, Angela Starr, Jimmy Sherry & The Music Agents. It's no surprise that these records are extremely rare and expensive to buy individually so this album will save you going broke trying to find them.
These recordings were made at a time when Nigeria's trade restrictions banned imported records. Whilst new musical trends (such as American soul, funk, disco etc) entered and influenced the country, the local music scene remained just that - local. Consequently, these recordings remain practically unknown to anyone outside of the country.
Nigeria Soul Fever is released as triple-album vinyl + download, double-CD digi-pack and digital download. This album follows on from Soul Jazz Records' 1960s collection Nigeria Freedom Sounds, released last month, and will be followed by the reissue of the incredibly rare and groovy Nigerian 1980 disco boogie funk album Tee Mac's Night Illusion.

After a one year and a half break, Femur makes his comeback with a 12” by French artist Cold Colors. For this occasion, we are recovering a selection of early demos to be released for the first time on vinyl. The four compiled tracks represent the particular cosmos in which Frédérick Barbe moves like fish in water. A perfect mixture between wave sounds, evocative melancholies, and enveloping darkness make up a real trip across foggy atmospheres. Release limited to 300 copies.

Los Angeles' Daniel T. joins the RNT fam with a stellar EP of homegrown and international flavor.
Known for his crisp production work as half of Cosmic Kids and more recent solo outings on Chit Chat and Let's Play House, on this 12" Dan also shows his talent for selecting and editing.
From the corner-store funk of Hit the Streets, percussive tropical sway of All Day, to the frenetic bounce of Trinidad Trouble and beatdown soulful vibes of Penguin Vacation, this record covers continents in just 4-tracks!

Kalahari Oyster Cult have been thumbing through their back catalogue and return to a past gem for some renewed attention. 2017 saw the release of Erell Ranson's Hand in Hand, a quintet of beautifully crafted machine music. Two tracks have been chosen from the EP and remixed with stunning results.

First up is Dj Normal 4's 'Sealife Safari MixX' of 'If We Never Try.' The sweet, shimmering melody of the original, the bubbling bass and subtle notes, are transformed in this remake. Silvery chords morph into bold and daring new forms under the tutelage of Tim Schumacher, neon streaked patterns coalescing with broken and cracked percussion for a superbly uplifting piece.

Pariah follows with his rework of 'Hand in Hand.' A deep dreamscape intricately woven with heady notes, birdsong and endless possibilities.

The final odyssey comes care of SW (Stefan Wust) of SUED fame. The Berlin based musician delivers his reimagined idea of 'If We Never Try' with Ranson's version being washed over by lapping lines and gentle currents to create a smooth rounded finale. A trio of unique perspectives from three true talents of electronic music.

Following his “Cosmic Sands” cassette on Light Of Other Days, Greg D debuts “Ocean Walk” under his new alias, GEE DEE. Recorded in 2019, the EP marries ambient, dub, and house influences to create an enticing body of mid-tempo magic. Using limited hardware 505, Juno 6, D50, and a Space Echo the four-tracker bears a hazy vibe throughout and pairs simple drum programming with sun-kissed synths and hypnotic bass lines. Whether dusk is upon you at your local cafe bar, or the lights are down in the discotheque, GEE DEE delivers an array of leftfield bumpers that will fit just about any mood. Quattrovalvole is the future/past/disco/drive project designed by Joone and Miss Zagato. Four on the floor Italo-disco, glossy 80s new wave pick us up in this afterdark lifestyle EP. The title track ‘Into the Night’ is a curb crawler’s seduction. Dedicated to the leather hand-notated black book, our dial up lover calls with arpeggiators demanding, then teasing like feathers over the phone. Big chords push us to drive fast, ready for what we long for.

B-side ‘Too Many Lights’ squeezes us, just what we need when broken glass is swept up from the disco floor. Tame drums and retro claps dictate, as the chords are stargazing with Miss Zagato’s vocals. They preside over the party, with potions of bliss and intoxication, we are invited intimately into this dream life.

Joone’s ‘Into The Night’ remix takes us into the future, driving at the wheel of an alcantara suede upgraded Ferrari 308 Vetroresina. The layers of well-informed 80s synth wave sends us into another dimension.

These are three high class disco tunes with real song craft at their heart.

Bosconi Extra Virgin is proud to launch the first vinyl release by Japanese duo Spangleman formed by Tsukasa Kato and Ataru Nishizaki. Their Brown EP is a 5 tracker of ultra minimalistic and sophisticated house jams!! First cut is "Jimmy", a broken swingy jazzy track with a deep aquatic rhodes and a slap bass, chasing each other all along the track, reminding some of the Trimsound or Tom Ellis early works. Second track of A side goes more straight into an hypnotic deep house track.. which still maintains it's jazzy approach with an original arrangement from beginning to end. The welcoming sound of "Ubi-Quitous" opens the B side, a broken dubby tune reminding early 90's atmospheres a la Nightmares on Wax.. follows up the ultra dry deep after hour track "Illusion" sounding like a real jazz jam with drums and contrabass where a quirky voice appearing from time to time, brings you back to reality! The EP ends with the freaky minimal Chicagoish jam "Chi This Ma" , a puzzle of chopped voice and acid samples stuck together so well like only Akufen could do.. Hard to define a sound for this release, could be Minimal, Detroit Jazzy house.. or more simply just Gentleman's house music!

A lost UK boogie gem from 1982 / Brit Funk era, recorded by singer Tony Crockett and Ralph Lewars' band "Pastiche" !

All in their early to mid 20's and born in London of Caribbean descent. The group were short lived, working on material for just a few years with the "Queen of Hearts" 12-inch being their only release. The track immediately demands the listener's attention with it's jazz piano, thumping drums, heavy bass, guitar licks and laced with funky flute, synth stabs, spacey sound effects, then dropping into soulful silky vocals and slinky rap - bringing together this killer boogie groove. Now finely re-issued for the first time by Diggers Dozen, giving this incredible rare record a more deserved chance to be heard and loved!

After releasing music from Japanese artists like Rondenion, Altz & Onomono it's time for Bosconi to export some of it's Finest Italian homegrown products to the land of the rising sun. Chicago veterans Rahaan and DJ Emanuel have teamed up for a remix project for new label “Yams n Rekkids.” Reworking this collection of classics, the pair brings a reimagined take on disco era dance floor staples with Rahaan’s trademark minimalism and punch. In 2021, these mixes shine a light on much of what was missing over four decades ago.

Side A side contains a session remix of “Burnin’ Up,” a UK dance-pop crossover from seminal vogue performers, Imagination. With stems derived from a combination of the original 1981 mix and 1983’s Night Dubbing album remix, “Up In Flames” is a combination remix of a remix bringing to light a different side of Leee John and company’s original concept.

Side A also includes 1976 Motown disco classic “Love Hangover,” by Diana Ross. Only this time it’s not actually Diana on the track! Expertly crafted, DJs Rahaan and Emanuel’s “The Cure” excerpts Diana while bringing to the forefront a mysterious background vocalist to helm the lead. The result is pure dance floor magic.

Across the entirety of Side B is a dubbed out 1978 groove from female P-funk phenomenons Parlet. Originally known as “Pleasure Principle,” the “Lucky Starships” remix remains close to the integrity of the original composition, while bringing to light that which has been buried in the original mixes.

Remixes From The Dungeon is the second project from DJs Rahaan and Emmanuel and the first of many for nascent label Yams n Rekkids. Primed for the dance floor, these songs bring a Chicago take on dance music history,

Compiled by cratediggers Loud E & The Wild, Discophilia Beligica' is a collection of next-door-disco and local spacemusic from Belgium 1975-1987. The tracks on this delightfully obscure collection are from ordinary folk. Most have day jobs. Yet as musicians, they go as far out as possible in to the disco universe and back again.

The italian project Zero Call produces pure Italo Disco with perfect brushes of ebm- infused retro synthwave. Punchy snares, pulsing basslines and dramatic synths behind monochromatic female spoken vocals. Including the main track “Stellar Wind” + 2 remixes by Technobeton and Arkademode + 2 recovered tracks from his past discography. All tracks have been specially remastered for LONG CUT vinyl by Daniel Hallhuber at Young and Cold Studios.

Mexico’s Hotmood has been prolific this year with some truly great releases behind him and an ever burgeoning and super loyal fan base. Step up Samosa Records to aid him with perhaps his finest release of the year to date.

Combining 4 tracks Samba E Sabor, Lafro, Groove With You and Our Place it’s an EP with everything from Latin flare to deep jazz party disco. This is a real tour de force of dance-floor nous from a producer and selector with extremely good taste.

First up is the ridiculously sublime carnival funk of ‘Samba E Sabor’. Everything about this track is huge from the drums to the funk laden guitars and ass shakin’ percussion to the wonderfully warm layered vocal. It’s a track which caused uncontrollable dancing in our office on a Monday Morning so you can only imagine what it’s going to do to your dance-floor on a Saturday night. It’s definitely going to cause a hands-in-the-air party wherever it lands.

Moving onwards ‘Lafro’ is a different animal altogether. Its deep throbbing bassline merges perfectly with some seriously tight drums building energy as more percussion finds its way to the top line. Looped up keys, jazzy 70’s piano licks and a quirky vocal all come together perfectly for a track which has a unique and fun style. Expect the tastemaker DJ’s out there to have this one on heavy rotation.

‘Groove With You’ is deep party disco with a tight fat horn groove and ever so cool looped up guitar licks. Breaking into a big trumpet solo it’s another feel good moment on a stellar EP. Not content with setting the groove to perfection just wait until the brilliant vocal comes in. A near perfect track!

Closing the EP out is ‘Our Place’ and it’s packed with verve. It’s also the deep side of disco with a big looped up bassline augmented by horn stabs, hammond licks, jazzy overtones and another intriguing vocal. Smooth and delightful.

Samosa and Hotmood together it would seem are a match made in dancefloor heaven.

Already building a reputation as an invaluable vinyl only series for lovers of reworkings of prime disco and Italo nuggets, LoveHrtz return with Vol. 3, offering up another brace of indispensable party starters.

‘Gotta Dance’ serves up a blinding version of one of these many classic jams, an Italo disco joint that’s brimming with all those classic tropes of the genre. On the flipside, ‘I Need Your Love’ is another synth heavy disco slammer, revived and injected with new life courtesy of LoveHrtz

It's "Illegal Jazz" time again. Toy Tonics head honcho Mathias ‚Kapote' Modica and former OYE Records music impressario Delfonic started to release some of their reworks of rare dance jazz tracks. Made originally for their own DJ sets, then released on two limited EPs. The vinyl were sold out immediately. So they decided to do a next chapter: four reworks of obscure Latin Funk, unheard disco Soul and lot of jazzy vibes in here - not easy to decipher the originals. All tracks have been reworked for DJ buisness - editing, looping, adding drums - with full respect to the original artists. To make dancers hear and feel their vibes again.

Buried amongst the gems on the second Claremont Editions compilation was ‘Oui Non’, a collaborative cut that marked the first label appearance of Jpye (real name Jean-Philippe Altier), a French multi-instrumentalist, DJ and producer best known for his work as part of Twonk alongside Leonidas and percussionist/vocalist/guitarist Renato Tonini.

Here Jpye and Tonini join forces once more for their first single on Claremont 56 – a sensual and seductive slab of slow-motion, sun-soaked synth-pop that features more than a few subtle nods to classic Italian Balearic disco cuts such as Radio Band’s ‘Radio Rap’ and Tullio de Piscopo’s ‘Stop Bajon (Primavera)’.
Built around squelchy synth bass and a shuffling drum machine rhythm, ‘Cosa Ti Va’ is marked out by glistening, jazz-fired guitar solos, vibrant synthesizer squiggles, rich electric piano chords and echoing, dubbed-out electronics. It’s a pin-sharp but effortlessly laidback number that’s as tactile and loved-up as it as lazy and horizontal.
‘Cosa Ti Va’ is presented in two complimentary versions. On the A-side of the vinyl version you’ll find the full vocal, which boasts Tonini rapping in his native tongue in the manner of Italo-disco’s most eccentric and atmospheric vocalists. With his deep, rich tone and fluid flow, it’s hard not to fall in love with Tonini’s previously unheard rapping. Rounding off the single is the pair’s vocal-free instrumental take, in which Jpye’s stunning guitar motifs and tactile, soft-touch production can be savoured in full.

Still hot after his successful debut on Toytonics (garnering support from the likes of DJ Harvey, Fouk, Mark Farina, Llorca, Glimmers, Lobster Theremin & many more) mysterious MAGOU has decided to break free from label ties and go solo on this new EP, which features 3 nonetheless of major geniuses of our time. First off Umberto ECO, the renowned cultural critic and novelist, is featured on an acid disco number (here in a vinyl-only extended mix). On the flip side, legendary Argentinian writer Jorge Luis BORGES tops the funkiest track of the century, period. Italian maestro Ennio MORRICONE is homaged on the 3rd track, which combines 303 sequences with cinematic choirs and Japanese city pop samples. This is all great but... who is hiding behind the name Magou?

You know the drill by now. A triple threat of ‘80s infused, electro boogie rework goodness, delivered directly to your door via the Loveface DeLorean.
