Multiple GRAMMY® Award winners Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak are releasing their award-winning album An Evening With Silk Sonic on vinyl for the first time on 12th August 2022. The track list includes the hits “Skate”, “Leave The Door Open” and “Smokin Out The Window”. Silk Sonic won International Group of the Year at the 2022 BRIT Awards and are set to open the 2022 GRAMMY Awards. The album entered the UK Album Chart at #9 and remained in the chart for 16 weeks. The focus track on album launch “Smokin Out The Window” peaked at #12 on the UK Singles Chart.

Their debut single “Leave the Door Open,” earned them Best Group at the 2021 BET Awards, entered the UK singles chart at #20 and is now certified Gold in the UK. They released the live version “Leave The Door Open (Live)” and serenaded audiences three times over at the GRAMMY® Awards, iHeartRadio Music Awards, and the BET Awards. The track was followed by a hugely popular social media campaign, #LetSilkSonicThrive and was immediately welcomed by unprecedented critical acclaim. “What’s new, smooth as silk on the ears, and features two stars of R&B?” wrote Billboard, praising Silk Sonic as “a groovy duo” and the single as “lounge at its heart.” Consequence of Sound enthused, “Mars has a voice like a liquid whip, while .Paak raps and sings through a foggy haze. ABOUT SILK SONIC:

The seeds of the collaboration were planted in 2017 when Anderson .Paak and Bruno Mars toured together on the European leg of his 24K Magic World Tour. One late-night jam session on the road unlocked immediate chemistry. Just before the world slipped into quarantine, Bruno called Anderson: “Remember that idea we had back in 2017? Let’s do it.” One studio session grew into to a months-long collaboration, culminating the “setlist of doom.” Legendary Bootsy Collins christened Silk Sonic and came in as the “special guest host” for An Evening With Silk Sonic, their debut album.

Silk Sonic was finally set free on March 5th, 2021. Within less than a month, their debut single “Leave The Door Open” cracked over 230 million streams, and currently sits at 2 billion streams with over 510 million official video views. It reeled in rave reviews, including Variety who noted it “could be a Best R&B Song GRAMMY® winner from 1974.” After petitioning the GRAMMY® Awards to #LetSilkSonicThrive, they made their debut performance with “Leave The Door Open” and served up a powerful tribute to Little Richard.

Freestyle Records drop an unmissable LP of foundational UK dance music made between 1982 to 1984, in the form of the collected output of Contact-U - aka Rick de Jongh and Andy Sojka's stripped-back electro boogie project.

At the turn of the 1980s Challenge Records was founded on North London's Holloway Road - formed by Andy Sojka & Rick de Jongh to act as a sister-label to Sojka's seminal soul & boogie-focused Elite imprint. Initially releasing a smattering of lovers rock singles, Challenge would quickly begin to focus-in on the emerging sounds of Hi-NRG & electro - with Contact-U, an alias for Rick & Andy's own stripped-back productions, becoming Challenge's first act in this vein.

Recording the sublimely wonky spaceage funk of 'Inside You' in November of 1982, de Jongh & Sojka followed this up over the next 2 years with three 12" releases for Challenge before hanging up the moniker. Providing infectious synth-based melodies & basslines with killer drum-machines & minimal but effective live percussion - and in a couple of instances (see "Inca Sacrifice" and "Breaking Point') crucial dub re-versions on their B-sides - these tracks are some of the strongest electro-funk records to come out of the UK during this period. Dig in!

Amikron Records returns with Eugene Rockwell's solo edit series Tipsy Club Tools. A vinyl-only release limited to 250 copies, it features raw club cuts for house and disco enthusiasts. As "M.F.T.S." combines chopped-up loops and dubby vocals from a classic cut, "Funk With Us" gives you that uptempo four-to-the-oor double clap and ute feel. Matching handmade stamps by Parissa Charghi and
Johanna Becker - stay tipsy!

Freestyle continues with their drive to unearth rare and classic UK funk, soul & boogie records with a reissue of a formerly white label-only, rare-as-hens-teeth debut 12" by UK soul icon Rick Clarke from way back in 1981.

Sharing the same line-up of performers as the eponymous group Potion (Rick Clarke, Carlton White on bass & Everton McCalla, formerly of Light of the World and later Freeez, on drums) though credited on the OG press as Rick Clarke alone, this 12" came out originally in the same year as the also sought after Potion 12" "Catch The Feelin' (Showstopper)" - a year before we would see Rick & Everton release the classic british electro funk of "Magic" as Side On (with Peter Mass) on Beggars Banquet.

This is a classic slice of British disco funk, showcasing an early vocal talent that would go on to become a key feature of the late 80s UK soul scene, alongside a tight-as rhythm section. The subtly dubbed-out instrumental mix is a real treat too, bringing those synth flourishes and soaring horns to the fore and letting us hear Carlton's bass work wonders unencumbered.

70 or so minutes of boogie funk from Germany, recorded live at the band's peak in their hometown Saarbrücken in 1987. Never heard before songs, now remastered. Limited to 100 copies.

During their short but intensive almost four years of existence Citro played about 50 shows and composed 32 songs that got performed live. This cassette holds 14 songs that draw a broader picture and captures their energetic and playful performance on stage. A band in great harmony that had developed its own sound.

This time capsule is the perfect addition to Citro's extended Smile EP reissue on funkscapes a few months ago. Encore!

Wankelmut makes his Toolroom debut alongside Anna Leyne with ‘Free At Last’, backed by a remix from label favourite Martin Ikin.

A prominent name within electronic music, with remixes for the likes of Dennis Lloyd, Lenny Kratiza and Hozier, through to his highly successful single ‘My Head Is A Jungle’, remixed by one of house music’s most distinguished talents MK, German DJ and producer Wankelmut’s career has seen the Berlin-based talent grow to become one of the country’s finest musical exports. Next up, welcomes a label debut on Toolroom alongside vocalist Anna Leyne as the pair deliver their latest single ‘Free At Last’, accompanied by a remix from label regular Martin Ikin.

The shimmering ‘Free At Last’ showcases Wankelmut’s premium production skills as slick percussion grooves combine with funk-influenced basslines and Anna Leyne’s powerful vocals, whilst Martin Ikin’s interpretation reveals a robust, feel-good house cut fuelled by the originals infectious vocals atop of bright, resonant piano melodies and crisp drums.

Simple effective jams on this limited edition 12” for all LF lovers. Get's the disco and the necessary house treatment, for maximum dancefloor carnage. Yet again another gem dropped from Legofunk.

Legendary Australian Disco-fiend Late Nite Tuff Guy turns up the heat on the equally legendary Salsoul Records with 3 absolutely stellar reworks of some bonafide classics. Somehow, LNTG manages to tweak these old-school recordings and injects a thoroughly contemporary edge into them, making them sound brand new. Featured here are 3 stone cold Salsoul monsters, all respectfully handled and edited with care - First Choice's uber-classic 'Doctor Love' & 'Love Having You Around' (penned by Stevie Wonder & his then wife Syreeta, no less!) and Double Exposure's anthemic 'Everyman' all go under the knife in the best possible way! Beautifully mastered and featuring special Black & Gold Salsoul label artwork this special Record Store Day EP will undoubtedly be a collectors item! One for the Disco heads right here!

Belgian DJ and producer Gratts returns in superb Balearic fashion here with a new song he penned for his two young sons, Leo and Ziggy. 'Sun Circles' also makes the first release from new South Australia-based label Be Strong Be Free. It is dreamy house with gently breaking synth waves and majestic twinkling chords as well as some brilliantly sultry sax lines and vocals. The tune was recorded over the last year and a half in various studios with musicians such as New Zealand-born Nathan Haines, London's Mr Beale, Belgians Jasper Hautekiet, Levi Wynants and Frederik Kuhn. Berlin-based Alex Kassian remixes on the flip.

Moiss Music is dropping two slabs of heat this month - their sixth and seventh EPs overall. Both are various artists' collections with plenty of 'floor-facing disco fun. Mathew Ferness opens this one with 'Paradisio' which has plenty of inspiration taken from late afternoon dances somewhere like Ibiza. 3kelves & We Are Neurotic get you working your feet with the busy percussive grooves and squelchy synth funk of 'Laguna Reservoir Funk' while Naux brings lots of loopy fun and throwback vocal goodness to his steamy 'Foxxy Cleopatra.' Partner Music rounds out the EP with the most energetic and busy of the lot - the restless melodies of 'People Should Romance.'

Eloi, a French producer hailing from Paris is the one behind Limited White Label's ninths black label release and takes you right to your late summer teen-romance you've never had.

House music royalty right here! Brookside Music enlist Chicago’s Ralphi Rosario, founding member of the influential Hot Mix 5, to work his magic on First Choice’s ‘Ain’t He Bad’, with an extended disco mix and a reprise dub, alongside the original version.

The extended disco mix kicks things off with a DJ friendly, beefier, quantized drum pattern, echoed vocal refrains and heavenly swooping pads for a touch of Rosario style and added atmosphere. A refreshing update to this classic, purpose built to blast out on big systems worldwide.

Next up, Rosario offers a reprise dub adding spiritual stabs to the original piano, as First Choice’s whispers feed in and tension building strings gather momentum. Gradually elements of the percussion are added before the full force of the beat takes hold. The vocals, for the most part, are left to those delicate “Ain’t He Bad” phrases and rising harmonies, letting the expert instrumentation and arrangement sing. Another sure-fire, hands-in-the-air staple for the locker.

Last but not least, the original First Choice version completes the package, offering a third and final way to light up the dancefloor this summer.

KX9000 is back with “Ultra Loisir”. Halfway between a bustling French house and Japanese city-pop influences, the Parisian producer offers a delicious 5-tracker, which can be tasted without moderation. A true collection of musical games with varied influences and singular production balanced between house sounds, electro funk and touches of nu-jazz.

Throughout club music history, the combination of vocals and groove remains a vital element. Countless anthems have prompted singing on the floor, and have raised arms in the air. There might have been times where vocals mattered less, but right now they are probably more needed than ever.
Tom & Rose are well aware of all that, and they were willing to place themselves and their music in a tradition of dancefloor euphoria, universal messages and also a bit of bittersweetness.
Tom is a DJ, producer and mix engineer, and also a booker and resident at Paloma. Rose is an Irish singer and producer. Together they created these tunes, a testament to better times gone and ahead."How Wrong" is the sound of heartbreak, albeit locked in a UKG tinged sureshot that swings back and forth with ease between jubilant piano bliss and monolithic bass weight, and it kicks like a mule. "Lose Yourself" is both an ageless acid slam and a joyful paean dedicated to all nights that should never end. There is a pumping dub too,
equally designed to be the soundtrack to blowing a nocturnal kiss to everyday sorrows.

Los Angeles disco/funk lover LUXXURY’s latest EP "Set Me Free" - five slices of dreamy 80’s disco and funk influenced bedroom pop - got on the radar of in the know indie dance fans after repeated airplay on LA tastemaker station KCRW. But the grooves, rubbery bass lines and shimmering synths barely mask the anxiety in the vocals, as LUXXURY (Blake Robin) sings as if he were peering into the future from the world we’ve all just - and so, very recently - left behind.

'Shakin' on the A-side is a disco inflected bomb full of funky edits, sampled guitar licks and an irrepressible hook that gives the whole track a distinctly Italo boogie feel.

Meanwhile, on the B-side 'Nine Toms' is a more laid back affair, a mid-tempo burner with soulful groans, off-kilter percussion and a wicked throbby bassline guaranteed to get you grooving.

After learning her craft at an after-hours club in her hometown of Santiago de Chile, a pivotal move to Milan at the end of 2015 proved to be the ticket that would propel Paula Tape into the European club circuit. Six years later Paula has made a name for herself as a purveyor of eclectic selections, stomping Italo beats, percussive balearic excursions and synth-heavy rarities, both through her international DJ sets and shows on Worldwide FM and Milan’s Radio Raheem.

With two EPs under her belt via Alzaya & SOBO, collaborations with Project Pablo, Tornado Wallace & Elias Mazian to boot, and standout singles on Permanent Vacation, Ransom Note Records and Rhythm Section International’s highly regarded 2020 ‘SHOUTS’ compilation, we welcome the announcement of a knockout four-tracker from the Chilean producer on the same Peckham-based label. In the last 12 months she’s taken the Mixmag Lab & Boiler Room by storm, and with a slew of international tour dates and forthcoming releases lined up, 2021 looks set to be Paula’s year.

“When I started working on the Astroturismo EP I didn't know the music I was writing was going to shape into an EP. Finalizing the first track "Body Nature" helped me a lot to orientate the correct use of all the music I have been producing during the lockdown months and Rhythm Section team was constantly supporting me to make me feel free to explore musically without needing to stick to club music. "Body Nature embodies strong energies, in a very personal way: I noted down those silly lyrics and kept singing the melody in my head for days, in the end, that drove me to create a groove that would work and transfer the mood I was feeling. This track is about feeling relief with dancing, whether in a private moment like I did in those days or in a public space, few easy moves to trigger positive energy and improve your emotional state.” ~ Paula

Thomass Jackson and INigo Vontier invite the French duo Youkounkoun to open proceedings with an insane early 80s edit full of big drums and exotic touches that's been blowing dancefloors all around the world for the past years - and definitely resides in the brazen category, despite a lot of work having gone into it. Olta Karawame make their debut on the series with a powerful, compact edit full of ballsy keyboard riffing and a military-sized kick drum that is guaranteed to have heads banging . To complete the release label bosses Thomass and INigo deliver edits of their own with their characteristic sound, giving this EP maximum a value for money factor and entertainment from start to finish.

Moton Records enlist the expertise of Bali’s best, Marc Roberts, to take listeners on a global jaunt of musical exploration.
