The story’s been told before, though perhaps it hasn’t been documented as well as it should have been: a group of young producers in Germany were knocked out by acid tracks, and in particular, the UK’s acid house moment, convinced by the way it negotiated pop’s pleasure and dancing’s drive. Across the turn of the decade, The Bionaut’s Jörg Burger, alongside friends and peers Wolfgang Voigt, Ingmar Koch, Cem Oral, Andreas Bolz, Gregor Luttermann, would produce a dizzying number of tracks under a mountain of pseudonyms.

1992 was a turning point for Burger. Moving between Frankfurt and Cologne, Burger produced Everybody’s Kissing Everyone with one eye on the dancefloor, the other on the lounge room. The productions from these fruitful sessions share a glam poppiness, even at their most supine, with Burger returning to his pop roots. This was a running theme across the nineties, as he released a stretch of pop-electronica albums and EPs as The Bionaut and The Modernist.

Vivid and welcoming, precision-tooled for the dancefloor, dewy-eyed and humbly melancholy, The Bionaut’s productions manage to make risk and experimentation welcoming, joyous – the inverse of so much studious experimental music. Talking about his productions as The Bionaut, Burger uses the term ‘metapop’ to explain his music, and that’s a perfect way of thinking about what he does – it’s at once pop and beyond pop, with a knowingness that gleefully ransacks pop’s history.

You can hear, in the seven tracks on Everybody’s Kissing Everyone, reflections of UK acid house, the spiralling squelch of Chicago acid tracks, the lilting lightness of pop-trance, but the connecting force is a lushness of tone and richness of melody that points forward to the pop-tronica of later Bionaut. Here, Burger takes a snapshot of that precise middle-point between the dancefloor and the bedroom and colours it in both primaries and pastels. It’s a most elegant swoon.

Kicking things off with the collaboration of pekkuliar and driahn, “Ravestasy” is an ode to the UK 90's rave and acid house culture while driahn’s “OMCSU” is an exploration of emotional electronic soundscapes.

The B side is focused on the 2-step UK Garage sound with contributions from Crump and CMYK. Heavy basslines, choppy vocals & infectious rhythms make “Division One” and “2step4cheese” two dancefloor weapons for everyone´s bag.

Nazt's Handcrafted label has been responsible for some well-received records over the past few years, with Alexkid, Carlos Sanchez, Javier Carballo, Priku and Melodie among the globally-renowned names who've graced the imprint. Based in Gran Canaria, the label's raison d'être tends to lean toward accomplished sounding house and techno hues, so it's no surprise that Cesare vs Disorder is another who's already featured for the label. The label's latest sees the Italy-born, Brazil-based producer conjure up a stunning release courtesy of Utopia. Delicate and imbued with more than a smidgen of magic, it serves up a fascinating insight into the mind of a musician whose work continues to be defined by its eclectic tropes.

It's the title track that gets us underway. An emotive record that tugs at the heartstrings in the best way possible, it's never lacking in drama and is notable for its many floating melodies and whimsical vibes. A beautiful example of the soul that often pervades deep house records, this is music made with an impressive level of thought and care.

'Under Your Shadow' sees the producer hark back to more minimal-inspired planes, with its trippy aesthetic, popping beats and unlikely baseline coming together with a consummate ease that separates this one from the herd. Fascinating and engaging, it too traverses down a deep path, with the end result one that manages to pair up to the original's brilliance. Which of course, is no mean feat.

Culminating the release is Arma 17 resident Denis Kaznacheev, who interprets 'Under Your Shadow' in his own inimitable manner. Renowned as one of Russia's foremost clubs, Kaznacheev has played a pertinent role in the club's rise to global prominence, with this release reminding us just why it's earned a reputation as one of the world's best after-hours spots. An unusual but captivating track with an unpredictable demeanour, it closes the release amongst a barrage of oddball vibes.

Newcomer Berlin based independent label Sonidos Del Arbol welcomes mother and son Christine Wordascka & Thomas Romain with a long trip ambient track on side A and Ricardo Villalobos RMX on B side.

Molly's new record for Groovement is a blissful 4 track EP, a journey between solar and lunar moods to be played on different environments in clubs or at home. 'Needs' EP is built on elegant drum grooves - strut of the new french house wave - intertwined with a Kind of nocturnal Fred P vibe and subtle Detroit-esque astral sounds. If going deeper in electronic music history one can even hear echoes of early Svek releases.

Label owners „Alex Tea“ and „Noha“ are back as „Patagonia“ for the 6th PANICK attack.

“Just Stop” defines the fine „Panick Panick!“ sound - quirky vocals, melodic hooks and a love for deep driving grooves.

On the B side “We come in peace” and “Amico Mio” show perfectly the eclectic side of the duo.

Butane's second release of 2018 drops this June, with the US DJ/producer unveiling his 'Body Of Work' EP as the fourth installment in his impressive Extrasketch series.

In its fourth release since emerging onto the scene in July of 2017, Extrasketch has become a staple label for may of the industries leading names - with support from Laurent Garnier, Guy Gerber, Jamie Jones, Danny Tenaglia, Kenny Glasgow, Ryan Crosson and Carlo Lio on the last EP alone. Following on from his varied and dynamic 'Techno Mafia' EP, here we see Andrew Rasse aka Butane deliver yet another expertly crafted, workman-like four-tracker that's set to make waves on peak time dancefloors and hazy afterhours thoughout summer and beyond.


Rasse kick starts EX04 with his 'Rumpus mix' of 'Ultramax'. The original featured as an off-kilter B2 cut on EX02, here he re-works the original's vocals amongst a deep yet bouncy and rugged low end to provide a fresh and entrancing interpretation for 2018. Next up, 'Dark Forces' is a hypnotic and stripped back effort, guided by an evolving lead line and regimented claps, perfectly encapsulating the refined and deft characteristics the San Francisco producer executes so well in his work.

'People' opens the B-side and quickly introduces crisp, skipping hats and a rolling organic dubby tech house groove to reveal a cut designed to keep the morning dance floors moving. 'Getting Nowhere' rounds out the package, as a cheeky remix of his 2012 hit 'We Long To Move The Stars To Pity', released on his own Alphahouse imprint and licensed as the opening track on Dubfire's Essential Mix that year. Here Rasse returns to his trademark blend: a grooving bassline, well worked percussion patterns, and hooky vocal shots. As always, this is a must have package from one of House and Techno's most talented producers, on a thriving imprint that's set to make an even bigger stir throughout the year ahead.

Brain Teaser is a limited vinyl record, featuring four breathtaking handpicked tracks.

For this 3rd release we have invited artists from our small family. Jacque Saravanté brings us a pure underground tune, with a groovy balanced bassline and a meticulous arrangement. The second track is presented by &lez, like always, you will hear an hypnotic percussion work pursued by a constantly moving vibe. Next we have Staniz bringing nothing but good vibes, a deeper track with a catchy melody. Closing this edition is Vloon, giving us a deep tech track with acid elements and a driving minimal composition.

Bosom, from Portugal with groove!

David Hanke is best known for his long-standing work as Renegades Of Jazz, as well as recent incarnations Dem Juju Poets and his exotic outfit Mankoora. The versatile producer and DJ returned to his blissful electronic roots with his latest project Keno earlier in 2018, released on the Agogo imprint.

Daviddelivers two sides of what he calls Krauthaus for Shapes of Rhythm. Kugelkreisis a mathematical word. Kugel in German means a ball/sphere and Kreis means circle. One is 2D and one is 3D.

The music is as intriguing as the terminology: long, psychedelic, deep and textured house music, suitable for those late night DJ sets or after parties.

On side A, Der Kugelkreis, spaced-out melodies mix with playful yet purposeful bass to create an ethereal atmosphere. It's got groove from the get-go. Tribal Afro-infused drum sounds propel it forward and, as such, Hanke is happy to tease us for almost three minutes before introducing the rest of his rhythm section. Drowsy horns float in a little later, adding another layer to the dreamy aesthetics.

The B side Permutation is also a long, deep excursion and features layered Fender Rhodes behind chopped, stabby vocals, before thunderous percussion chisels right through the middle of it all.

After half a decade of wait, Berlin-based producer Douglas Greed makes his long-awaited return with 'Angst' - the 10-track followup to his 2014-on BPitch Control released album, 'Driven'. Fruit of a transitional period that's seen him go through all kinds of creative ups and downs, 'Angst' refers to the inherent ambivalence attached to the sentiment of fear. In Douglas' case, fear - though crippling at times - is also what makes him tick; the catalystic force that pushes him to outdo and reinvent himself so constantly. Born out of the hope to find that crucial innocence of his younger music-loving self again, 'Angst' finds Douglas brushing a ten-part tableau of warmly atmospheric, quietly nostalgic pieces, in the tradition of his previous releases for BPitch, Freude Am Tanzen, 3000 Grad et al - whether solo or under his parallel project YEAH BUT NO alongside Fabian Kuss and EATING SNOW with Mooryc. Infused with the refined pop sensibility that's become trademark to his sound, the album reels out a soul-fulfilling narrative that very much feels like a second wind; deftly swinging the pendulum betwixt sun-streaked melodies, transporting emotional crescendos and intricately woven textural membranes to lose yourself into. Starting off with the sense-awakening and supremely resilient electro-pop of 'Roll with the Punches', featuring Joy Wellboy on vocals, whose upcoming LP was co-produced by Douglas, the album alternates dynamic highlights - from the jazz & trip-hop-indebted 'The Taste of Dust' to the Border Community-esque trancey charm of 'Everybody Wants to Live in a Mansion' - and wistfully enticing cuts like 'The Few', 'Numbers‘ (both Songs with vocals by Odd Beholder) or the polyphonic chimes & brass-laden roller 'Random Groove'. As its title suggests, 'Angst' also cuts a wide window open into Douglas' bruises and introspective leaning, shining with maximal depth on the thoroughly intimate coming-out of 'Wie Man Unsterbliche Tiere Züchtet' and 'Fight For You', where day-to-day anxieties give birth to larger-than-life narrative arcs and corollas. The ironically airwaves-ready closer 'Not Afraid‘ with Joy Wellboy makes for the vanishing point of Douglas' full-length journey, but no ending to it by any means. It's a gift that keeps on giving.

Er schließt mit seinem lang erwartetem Album „ANGST“ da an, wo er uns auf BPitch Control mit „Driven“ zurück ließ: schimmernde Melodien zwischen Sonnenuntergang und Sonnenaufgang. Die zehn Songs sind das Ergebnis einer Periode persönlicher und kreativer Höhen und Tiefen. Der Titel des Albums bezieht sich dabei auf sein ganz eigenes ambivalentes Verhältnis zu „ANGST“. Denn obwohl ANGST manchmal lähmend sein kann, ist sie für Douglas Greed auch eine treibende Kraft, die ihn pusht und dazu bringt sich selbst neu zu erfinden und zu hinterfragen.

Das Album schließt an seine Veröffentlichungen für Freude Am Tanzen, Bpitch Control und 3000 Grad an und ist doch anders. Es ist der Versuch der Rückbesinnung auf das unschuldige Gefühl des Musik-Entdeckens – wie damals als junger Teenager. Und so haftet „ANGST“ eine gewisse Nostalgie und atmosphärische Wärme an, die man auch von seinen Projekten YEAH BUT NO (mit Fabian Kuss) und EATING SNOW (mit Mooryc) kennt.

Die poppige Handschrift Douglas Greeds, versteht es dabei ausgezeichnet Geschichten zu schreiben, die voller Herzblut sind. Erzählungen untermalt von herbstlich scheinenden Melodien, feinen Texturen und cleveren Höhepunkten.

Das Album startet mit dem sensibel unaufgeregtem Electro-Pop Schieber „Roll With The Punches“, welches die Vocals seiner Freunde von JOY WELLBOY featured, für die er auch deren kommendes Album co-produziert hat. Es folgen Höhepunkte verschiedenster Polaritäten: Vom jazzigen, triphopartigen Deephouse-Track „The Taste Of Dust“ über dem mit leicht süsslichen Geschmack von Trance versetztem „Everybody Wants To Live In A Mansion“ zu dem Indietronic-Songs „The Few“ und „Numbers“ mit ODD BEHOLDER oder der polyrhythmischen und von dröhnenden Bläsern durchzogenen Deephouse-Hymne „Random Groove“.

Douglas Greed verliert dabei das Thema „ANGST“ nie aus den Augen. Sie schwebt Melodien werfend über den Songs und schleicht sich in die zehn Geschichten. Ob als erzähltes Narrativ in „Wie man unsterbliche Tiere züchtet“ oder als zerbrechliches Bindeglied zwischen den Elementen wie bei „I Fight For You“ – die tägliche Portion Angst wird mit einem Löffel Zucker gereicht. Schließlich wird am Ende des Albums dann aber auch ganz präzise von Joy Wellboy klar gestellt „I’m Not Afraid“. Ein Album vor dem man keine Angst haben muss, es auf REPEAT laufen zu lassen!

After a long silence ÈTÈ returned with a new release from Juliche Hernández.

Sasaki's smooth blend of thoughful tech house has been presented in 2 original pieces as key ingredients for any after hours gathering expressing tripped out broken piano excursions with subtle driving drums. Frazer Campbell pulls his version back from the after party to the daytime with a version that raises the heartrate with bold 101 synth leads and Chicago influenced percusion. Finest Hour's Pablo Tarno joins the release with his signature sound of garage meets early techno providing a classy envelope of silk like power for the peak time floor.

Myles Sergé returns to Calder City Development Corp. with his 3rd installment under his pseudonym "Translate" to bring forth Translucent Techniques Vol. l.
This 3 track EP continues to build from the Techfunk" foundation of the previous Translate" releases on FEROX and Calder City Development Corp. With deep experimentation the void between techno and house just seems to become a blur, something Mr. Myles Sergé does best.
