After a break from releasing new material while he concentrated on developing the Freerotation Electronic Music Festival, Mindtours label boss Steevio is back with a 4 track EP of live improvised modular music. (Limited Edition - 300 copies)
Modular Techno Vol 1 is four tracks of raw, deep, jazz tinged, freeform, analogue minimal electronics, recorded during practice for Steevio's live performance at Freerotation2011.
All sequencing and sound manipulation was jammed live on Steevio's purpose built modular synthesizer, without the use of a computer, and without EQ / compression / mastering or any other processing during the recording or at the record cut itself, in a deliberate attempt to capture a live electronic music performance directly to vinyl.
Steevio's mission is to continue to develop his modular synthesizer and live technique, whilst recording outtakes from his studio sessions. These will be released as further volumes in the Modular Techno series.

Introductions first. Ive made over eighty of my own productions, and tampered with countless other tracks in a remix guise. Delirium was my first gig at Delirium (Londons first house club) in 1991 - which basically consisted of me slipping on a record when Noel Watson went to the toilet - to more recent gigs at Garage City, Off Centre, Angels of Love and Ministry of Sound, Ive played pretty much everywhere.

Ive been surrounded by music and vinyl from an early age, my Dad worked in a record store, bringing home all the latest releases to me. Enterprisingly, I would slyly slip them into my schoolbag and take them to school, subsequently selling them to my friends.

When anything came out, my Dad would bring it back to me: I had the first Specials record, the first Electric Light Orchestra record... Hed also bring me little boxes of returns and stuff. Wed sell them at school fairs. All the other kids would be doing Bob the Apple, and wed be getting these twenty seven year old punks coming up from the Kings Road for Clash box sets for twenty quid a go. We knew what was going on...! This grew up with me, and I went on to work in Quaff Records and Vinyl Solution, two of Londons finest record stores.

Dont ask me what I play - I hate pigeonholing. At our club on a Friday night (The Notting Hill Arts Club that I do with Patrick Forge), I play jazz, latin, all the classics, a bit of disco and funk. Saturday nights are more cutting-edge house music. I play music from every category as long as its good: Quality timeless music, with big production.

I work with Luke McCarthy as the Restless Soul production team, which also incorporates producers Modaji, (Laws of Motion Records) Taxi Driver, (Estereo Records), and Roy the Roach, Aaron Ross and Felix Hopkins (also my trusty engineer). He also produces under various aliases including Basic Soul and Electric Soul with Luke McCarthy, Woolph, Phoojun (alongside Nathan Haines), and 12-bit Rephugees with Mark de Clive-Lowe.

Im part of the West London brokenbeat scene which has been receiving serious critical acclaim of late...Im a founding member of the CO-OP club alongside Dego, I.G Culture and Demus. This enables us to represent and promote the West London sound worldwide.

Last year I produced a live-based jazz album for Chillifunk Records with saxophonist Nathan Haines, and Ive recently finished producing my second album, which will appear on the French label Versatile records."

Chus L. Esteban aka DJ Chus started his professional career at the end of the 80's in his home town, amidst the full-blown euphoria of the acid-house movement at 'Alien', one of the first clubs of the famous Kapital Group. In August of '92 he was invited to play at the mythical Portuguese club Kadoc, where he was fortunate enough to share the booth with the best international DJs of the time It was then that his style, influenced by the Portuguese and American underground sounds, definitely converged into house.

When In September '94 Madrid's first house club, Teatro Kapital, was inaugurated, Chus became the clubs first emblematic resident DJ, lasting an extraordinary 10 years. His innate desire to create and improve led him to try his hand at production, with the guidance of the then up and coming David Penn, a logical and well chosen step in his career.

The new Gomma 12" comes from two friends from Milano Italy. Cristian Croce and Nicola Mazzetti are The Barking Dogs since 2006: two djs with different musical backgrounds and solid experiences. They run famous record shop in Milan ìSerendeepity" and are known as party animals: their dj-sets spread the same energy and passion that they put in their musical research. Under their shop in the center of Milan they have a huge collection of vintage sinths and drum machines. They love this raw, dirty sound of the late 80ies. Big city grooves.

They had a few releases: in 2008 ìRe-incantationî, a Balearic trip quickly sold-out in Europe, ìThe guitar manî ìHi-nrgî on Mad On The Moon.Their Rush hour single ìHit the ground/Fare una donna/Alibiî was quoted by 2ManyDjs, Horse Meat Disco, Trevor Jackson and many others. A nice Barking Dogs track was also part of last years ìItalo Now Compilationî on Gomma Records.

Highly recommended! "Unity" is the first single taken from Third Side's forthcoming album "Unified Fields", that will be released on Restoration Records in September 2012. Third Side is the project of The Analogue Cops and Panorama Bar resident Steffi; their collaborations, which have been released exclusively on Restoration, have been of the most interesting jams of the last years.
The original "Unity", a fat overshadowing deep techno track, written and produced only with machines and recorded on tape, comes with 3 massive analogue remixes.

A1: I Wanna Boogie
Slick percussion on this one, with a spacey lead synth and vocal. This one has been gaining huge reactions on the dance floor! A great, refined disco/house track.
A2: My People
A different vibe on this one, but we loved it so much we couldn't leave it out! A chilled vocal track with gentle percussion and warm keys. A superb track in its own right that will undoubtedly become a secret weapon for warm up and after party sets alike.
B1: Looking In Your Eyes
Back to the house style - synth sounds which are so typical of Volta Cab's productions, as you will come to find out! Again a great groove on the beat and some really tight percussion to bring things alive.
B2: Freak Your Soul
Dreamy house to round up the release, giving a nod towards the old school house styles. Great beat, nice vocal and a really infectious synth line. Nice!!

The fledgling Udacha imprint hit the right spot in calling on Rawax alumnus A5 to head up their first release, and the standards are maintained here with Dices at the helm for a four track drop. Those of you with a good memory (and swift fingers) will no doubt recall Dices from the most recent Leleka 12", collaborating with Vakula on that record's standout track "Bug Powder." On the evidence of this full debut EP, Dices has learnt plenty from his time in the studio with Vakula, veering through various moods and expressions of the house form with a similar attention to detail. Equally adept at glistening, crystalline moments imbued with afro feeling such as "Confuse" and shuffling, disjointed rhythms ("Travel Bug") Dices is clearly the latest graduate from the East European school of house music excellence.

the new ep by harmonious thelonious called ting tong ep is ready to be released. it's the second record on asafa. this time it's getting melodious, especially on track one and four. almost a bit like holger czukay's genious song called persian love but without the short waves. the track a.o. seems to play in the jungle (it's a street jungle in whereever) and profaner tanz starts with a noise pad and ends with repetitive guitars.

What is the definition of epic We think it is Of Norway's newest track Libertine. A 12 and a half minute long Nu-Disco monster, mindblowing from beginning to end. Techno as it might have sounded had this genre already existed at Woodstock. For Libertine, Preben Olram - a Norwegian multi musician and voice actor - joined the Of Norways and played live bass and percussions, as well as vocal percussions.

"Mogwai" is a minimal concept groove track with a deep hypnotic feeling. The amazing tech house jewel "Mada iron" delivered by Sabe has been properly reshaped by Re-UP on an organic version with a fat sound, shacking your booty in that special way for which they got known for. Van She MKII are here, with the first single and title track from their forthcoming record, Idea Of Happiness.
So uplifting it's practically levitational, Idea Of Happiness is Van She's most focused, joyous musical excursion to date. An album stirred by sunbaked travels and fleeting truths, and shaken with the sands of time, Idea Of Happiness was recorded, engineered and produced by the band themselves in Kings Cross, Sydney.
Their self-sufficient approach to the record allowed them the time and space to not only fine tune to the nth degree each cymbal splash and crashing wave sample, but also left them free to give ideas the time and space to hang loose. They may have walked a slow, deliberate path to realising album #2 but the result is all the better for it.
The record was mixed in Los Angeles with Tony Hoffer, the perfect man for the job with a resume that includes work with Beck, Air, Phoenix and M83.
