The fifth edition of Defected’s vinyl series commits the labels biggest digital releases to wax, delivering upfront packages of house heat previously unavailable on vinyl. This springtime release delivers all the summer stompers you need on your sound system, with the A-Side featuring Ferreck Dawn, Robosonic & Nikki Ambers’ ‘In My Arms’ and Mat.Joe & Kid Enigma’s ‘Get Loose’; two sure-fire party starters. On the flip are two tracks from man of the moment OFFAIAH. First up is his collaboration with vocalist Cat Connors ‘Somewhere Special’, where the Las Vegas based artist delivers a deep, rolling bassline and tension-building drops. midnight in tokyo is a compilation series that aims to be the perfect companion to nights in tokyo, collecting tracks by japanese artists that sound best at night. while vol.2 focused more on '80s jazz fusion, the latest installment, vol.3, picks up where vol.1 left off, bringing together forgotten soul, disco, and new wave gems. the compilation opens with japanese rare groove classic 'more sexy,' a provocative song by 'the queen of sexy songs,' yoko hatanaka. 'kimi no yume,' from the album yume no yonbai by the wandering poet masumi hara, is one of the best balearic acid folk song to come out of japan. 'silhouette call' is an electric bossa nova track—in the vein of antena—taken from a rare album called octopussy by yuki nakayamate, a singer songwriter who also worked as a backing vocalist for motoharu sano. 'theme of high school student' is a dubby cut featured on the soundtrack to the japanese '80s film kougen ni ressha ga hashitta, written by atsuo fujimoto of colored music—one of the key artists in the recent wave of global interest in japanese music. 'get to paradise' is a stone cold funk jam by mari kaneko, who was known as the janis joplin of shimokitazawa in her heyday, and is now known as the mother of the drummer and the bassist of popular rock band rize. following that is one of japan's greatest new wave disco track, 'hannya,' taken from tomoko aran's popular third album fuyu-kukan—produced by masatoshi nishimura who was part of the friends of earth project with haruomi hosono. masako miyazaki—whose rendition of seawind's 'he loves you' is a fan favorite—puts her own spin on the earth, wind & fire classic, 'fantasy,' singing in her accent-heavy english which gives the song an undeniable character. 'watashi no koukoku' is a certified disco boogie classic by popular singer junko sakurada. the brazilian-esque jazz fusion, 'sunshine bright on me' is by a fusion group called kangaroo, who were often billed as 'the japanese shakatak.' 'stranger's night' is a synth-pop number by pop idol maiko okamoto, which bears a suspicious resemblance to rah band's 'the shadow of your love.' electro-pop disco 'singing lady'—off the sole album released by the one-off project the fad—sounds like something giorgio moroder could've cooked up. 'magic eyes' is a disco anthem recorded by songwriter tetsuji hayashi's disco project, the eastern gang. following that is japanese soul gem 'crazy baby,' found on a rare 7 inch entitled minato no soul by rinda yamamoto—also composed and arranged by tetsuji hayashi. and last but not least, closing out this collection of 14 japanese rare groove goodies is 'i'm in love', a bittersweet mellow dance number by tomoko aran.

Contra008. Contrafact are proud to present the new EP 'Chicago Knights' from veteren producer Andrew Haines. Andrew Haines aka Merix is primarily an outlet for deeper House and Techno sounds with an experimental twist. A love for cutting edge 80s and 90s moody, soulful and raw electronic club music sounds produced from the hardware of those years lies at the heart of these productions.

However a forward thinking and modern experimentation with these boundaries is also intended to be loosely employed with these production parameters.

All audio production by Merix runs alongside the Ae2 Multimedia project. Ae2 Multimedia was created by Andrew Haines in 2010 as a fusion of various artistic endeavours. Andrew Haines has been creating works of fine art, DJing and producing electronic music since the mid 1990's. Over the past 20 years Andrew Haines has also been engaged in creating works of analogue film photography, researching folklore, practising spirituality, exploring herbalism and world travel.

As an artist Merix is currently based between Galway in western Ireland, the hills of northern Cymru and Long Island, New York State in USA.

The much anticipated album by Another Taste released on Space Grapes — an eclectic ooze of boogie, funk, and obscure disco. Comes in a Tip-on sleeve and with a download code.

Another Taste's debut brings together a blend of boogie, 70’s funk and obscure disco - birthed from unearthing forgotten sounds and reinventing them for the modern era. A recipe they’ve been cooking up successfully over the last years in the studio, through their label Space Grapes and on tour through some of Europe’s finest stages.

Another Taste is a Rotterdam-born concept band formed by a group of longtime friends, consisting of Bobby van Putten (keys), Bob Roche (bass), Barend Lippens (keys) and Teun van Zoggel (drums).

Inspired by the obscurity and the do-it-yourself approach of private press culture of the late 1970s and 80s, their first releases were mostly a product of late night sessions between the four of them at the studio of their co-producer Danilo Plessow (MCDE), leading to the founding of Space Grapes Records.

The band’s first songs were released under various pseudonyms such as Mad Honey, GALXTC or Jambonne and quickly gathered them a loyal following and support from the likes of Gilles Peterson, Kenny Dope and many more.

Another Taste ripples their sound beyond the studio and onto the stage. In their live performances they introduce additional band members in Sarina Voorn (Vox), Diogo Carvalho (percussion) and Florian Verhagen (guitar). A core group with whom they’ve played at prestigious festivals such as Worldwide or Kappa Futur and legendary venues such as Jazz Cafe London, New Morning Paris, and Tresor Berlin.

The March-scheduled album release is the latest iteration of the band’s evolution. From the A-side opener "Turn Up" to the B-side closer "Perfect Night," the album is a testament to Another Taste’s ceaseless creative exploration. Each of the 6 songs on the album presents a new invitation to experience their genre-defying sound and bring people together in delight!

Fresh off the critically acclaimed “Capichone EP” on Peach Discs, Nachtbraker takes us on a blazing journey! The tight drum patterns, vigorous and heartwarming pads, bolstered with his signature bass lines, will have you reminiscing on 90’s Dutch House Music.


In the driver’s seat, anthemic title track “Dondoni” gears up with a vivacious synth pad and galvanic bass line whilst, in the passenger seat, “Barkuchi Fus" goes full throttle on multi-layered melodies and pads. In the back seat we find the original mix of “Don’t Worry” with a cleverly alternating arrangement and intricate sound design.

For the second release we have four unreleased tracks made between 1994 to 1996 at Alien Recording studio in London from duo PAN-TONE (Alec Stone & Andy Panayi). Best friends for over 35 years, both had a passion for making their own style of music and getting out it to the people around the world. Sadly passed away, Andy has been a very big font of inspiration for us, we are proud to release these four housey tracks from the past to all of you.

The collective Beste Modus Cinthie, Diego Krause, stevn.aint.leavn, Ed Herbst and Albert Vogt launched the label in 2012 as a platform for their own material, not long after came the realisation that many other artists around them were keen to be involved with the imprints burgeoning success and this led to the birth of Beste Fruende, a home for music from friends and affiliates of the label. Kevin Over’s ‘Butchers’ leads on the package with a swinging drum groove, emotive piano chords and a garage sub-tinged sub bass line alongside resonant synth licks and infectious vocals. Rindeau follows with ‘Wax On The Moon’, taking things deeper via twinkling Rhodes lines, dusty robust drums and modulating percussion. Cuartero’s ‘Floor Paca’ opens the flip side with choppy bass stabs, soft chord hits and a subtly nuanced rhythmic drive before ‘Slow Motion’ rounds out the package, employing classic deep house tropes with airy ethereal pads, vocal chops and shuffled, strippedback drums at its core.

Soul Quest are proud to present the latest release from Berlin based DJ and producer Jean-Jez, who continues on with a musical journey with flourishing roots and a bright, bright future.

Jean-Jez has made waves in Berlin’s underground for a good while now, with his Kedi Bounce parties (whom he co-founded) quickly becoming a celebratory cornerstone of community and culture. His DJing style and production approach act as a core expressional loop, with Jean-Jez embracing a multitude of styles and sounds with both. Bridging the gap between house, Jazz, Hip-Hop, Afro-Latin and beyond, Jean-Jez is all about nurturing the collective joy found within music - either through his own tunes or deep in the mix at a Kat Nip party.

‘Soul Notion’ wears its heart on its sleeve, and embodies the core musical principles to which Jean-Jez holds so very dear. ‘Did you want to dance!’ kicks things off with a deep melodic embrace, before spreading outwards with brassy frills, evocative simmering drumming patterns and vocal samples which kick the inner consciousness into another gear.

‘Take me to the moon’ contains an up and front piano lead, with uptempo drums providing a twist and flair to proceedings. Some inspired vocals add further to the atmosphere, one of airiness and emotional escapism.

‘What is it tell me’ stirs into life with a wide scope through the low ends, but Jean-Jez cooks up a storm with some wondrous jazz guitar that weaves one final spell to get lost deep within.

To wrap things up, Jean-Jez enlists his own collective: Kedi Bounce to put an Acid twist on ‘Did You Want To Dance’ to close the ep in style. This mix is exclusive to the vinyl mix and won’t be released digitally.

Jean-Jez looks to celebrate and resonate through his music, and this EP is a full demonstration of his abilities to bring things together. Seamlessly blending some of his favourite styles, this record contains all the feels to be wished for, and an experience that leaves plenty of room for return visits, this EP has you covered.

DJ Hasse is the alter ego of Erik Danielson—co-founder of Västkransen Records and one half of the duo Bike Thieves. Written and produced in the spring of 2023, his solo debut ”Hasse’s Fabrication EP” is now ready for the shelves. With two original tracks and a remix by Stockholm’s up-and-comer DJ Beverage, the record delves through styles and genres that Erik loves and always includes in his DJ sets.

On the record’s title track, DJ Hasse gives us a glimpse of the 1980s with a bass-driven italo piece ornamented by arpeggios and synthesized strings.

On the B-side, ”For My Friends” increases the energy with a euro house inspired tune built on a steady breakbeat groove. The record then closes with DJ Beverage’s own take on ”For My Friends”, which strips it down to its essentials and turns it into a bouncy UKG belter.

Detroit innovator and singular soundsmith Theo Parrish returns with a new EP which we're told is his response to "stagnation and nonmovement" either physiologically, mentally or physically. 'Positive Mental Attitude Solves All' is up first and is a tribute to the late great funk-father Amp Fiddler. It's a typically deep cut with dusty drums and irregular, scruffy percussive lines layered in next to diffuse synth warmth and soulful melodies.
