Zafsmusic.com continues to bring you the rarest disco & boogie bangers with his new compilation titled 'Private Wax' Vol 1. 15 scintillating excursions into the deep disco & boogie world of privately pressed & produced gems. Zaf Zafsmusic is a disco weasel of the highest order. He has, by his own admission, got it bad-losing sleep and suffering physical maladies from the want of certain must-have pieces of stamped vinyl. Fortunately, he also has excellent taste and a lengthy history of wheeling and dealing with other similarly afflicted individuals, a history that has allowed him to sift the wheat from the crap, err, chaff, as it were. As a long-time staffer of the notorious Reckless Records on Berwick Street, a hotbed of vinyl commerce in the Soho section of London, these skills were no doubt put to the test on a daily basis when dealing with the continuous influx of hustlers hoping to offload their by-and-large worthless wax at the shop. Faced with this parade of the common and shoddy, it takes a keen eye to single out the precious stones buried in the seemingly endless expanse of decent-but-ordinary (not to mention the middling-to-awful) records that comprise most collections. Our stalwart selector has also travelled an even more treacherous terrain: the world of online sellers. Without recounting any gory digital battle stories, suffice it to say that the online world inhabited by some vinyl obsessives is a rather scary place. It is without any sarcasm that I offer my sincere gratitude to Zaf for the yeoman's work he has put in discovering the tunes herein. So, while I still encourage all neophyte disco enthusiasts to get themselves a firm grounding in the classics before attempting to swim in the uncharted waters of small-label, independent releases, if you are ready to do so then Zaf is your man. urban is an essential detroit late night jam for me. i get chills hearing this. i remember when it first came out, on a double pack. very rare raw and chunky and beautiful. all these elements. this track sounds like how theo deejays, to me. tweekin the knobs, EQ-ing the bass and hi's, til we couldnt take it anymore, as he bounced his head. probably one of the most eclectic deejays. he's incredible and so is this track

Kenny Dixon Jr's prolific year continues with the announcement of the 'Why Do U Feel' EP, set for release on his own KDJ imprint next month.
The three track 12'' follows the recent hard-to-find I Guess You Never Been Lonely 12'', and, before that, a free digital EP for the Scion automotive company. And of course there's a full album slated for release this year too.
Alongside the previously released ''I Got Werk'' - you may remember the slightly risible video of Dixon Jnr walking through Camden - are two intriguing new cuts, namely the title track and ''Born 2 Die''.

2011's debut album from The Shaolin Afronauts 'Flight Of The Ancients' was a critical and commercial success story, lauded as a truly original blend of the sounds of 1970's West Africa, Ethiopia and the pioneering and progressive avant-garde jazz artists of the same period. 'Flight Of The Ancients' went onto be nominated for several music awards, including the 25th Aria Fine Arts Awards in the world music category, whilst the band, led by Ross McHenry, cemented it's reputation as a truly revelatory live act, with a colourful and vibrant visual element to their shows, with the band resplendent in flowing, hooded robes and face paint to complete the spiritual presentation of their highly original music.

So what is After the void ..We Bang the Bomb of course with a lady in a thong surrounded by snakes and hand grenade's, obvious really! Having been away for some time it appears that a Light Sounds Dark spring is in the air. En route to their next destination (rumoured to be a dark subterranean world full of nasty mutants 'Danger electrified tracks' out this Summer) with arms out the window and the mothership roof down, it's full steam ahead and proper European dance music time.

Not really train spotting as before although a couple are a bit off piste like Malta's very own Ian Dury by the name of Iain Richardson rapping about sitting on a green bus! much more like it however are classic Italo covers of 'Big in Japan', 'Gloria', a wonderful new wave version of Falco's euro smash 'Der Kommissar' and The Thoughts massive German hit 'Wait a Long Time' sounding like some long lost Talk Talk record. Light Sounds Dark do some minor tweaking (going for that natural look) to big beast anthems Axodry's 'You' and Colme 111's 'You Take Me High' (early euro take on Chicago) and for lovers of something a bit more funky there's some groovy goings on from Kraut funksters Epsilon urging people to 'Leave The City' which might not be a bad idea if the water runs out.

Taking the crunchy drum-machine rhythm, tape hiss and guitar jangle from the original, Sam Shepherd reconfigures the track into a near eight-minute opium opus, whimsical synths and all. Funnily enough Dave Okumu's haunting vocals sound even more focused here as Shepherd tranforms them into a ghostly memory, reframing them as a complex recollection of loss. It's harrowing and beautiful stuff
