Oonops's first encounter with Japanese producer Shin-Ski dates back six years when he asked him for an exclusive guest mix for his show on Brooklyn Radio. He became aware of him years ago through his group ShinSight Trio with Insight and DJ Ryow a.k.a. Smooth Current. After one more mix and two collaborations on his Resense-series plus "Oonops Drops - Vol.1" compilation via Agogo Records they started working together on a whole album of instrumentals.

For this 45 Oonops had the chance to dig through an amount of unreleased tracks and selected some of the essential essences with different influences from Jazz, Soul, Funk and much more.

The new collaborative project between Deborah Jordan and K15 explores the concept of our own humanity while attempting to address what does in fact make each of us human. While the inspired pairing of revered singer and songwriter, Deborah Jordan, alongside the boundless versatility of producer and musician K15 (Kieron Ifill) for a whole album seems too good to be true, this is actually a project that each of their respective roads have been converging towards for years.

The songs throughout ‘Human’ beautifully embrace the array of styles that both Jordan and Ifill have become attributed to – from the brilliant Culross Close-esque production of album opener ‘Running’ to the twinges of broken beat found in ‘Innervision’ and the more acoustic, piano-driven tracks like ‘Change’. The masterful production is both sparse and intricate affording Jordan’s typically incredible vocal the appropriate space to explore these sonic soundscapes in her own inimitable way while expressing those very characteristics about our own humanity.

When it comes to the pantheon of hip-hop movies, ‘Wild Style’ is number one. While the actual plot carries about as much weight as ‘Beat Street’ or even the Fat Boys vehicle ‘Disorderlies’ – and the acting is also nothing to write home about – the soundtrack is an indelible classic.

What the film and its soundtrack caught was a moment in time and some key performances from genuine pioneers instrumental in the nascent hip-hop scene. And the influence has passed down through the ages, with rhyming couplets from the ‘Wild Style’ album still cited today, and Nas drawing on a snippet of the film for the opening track of his one true classic album, ‘Illmatic’.

What’s unusual about the soundtrack – and evidenced on the tracks showcased here, available for the time on 7” since a 1983 Japanese release – is that it didn’t draw on the tried-and-tested breakbeats that many of the artists featured on it would have cut their chops on. Charlie Chase, whose slithery scratches adorn both sides of this record, would have been used to going back to back on the records captured later on the ‘Ultimate Breaks & Beats’ compilations.

Instead, the music is produced by Chris Stein of Blondie in collaboration with Fab 5 Freddy, drawing inspiration from those earlier breakbeats, with drums provided by one Lenny Ferrari. Here, Grandmaster Caz of the legendary Cold Crush Brothers is at ease over both sides, the music evoking the sound he would have rhymed over at the block parties where he built his reputation. It’s a moment trapped in amber – you can’t listen to this 7” without imagining a graffiti strewn subway car in New York.

Since our first contact with NYC based producer Thavius Beck in 2018, he sent us over 100 unreleased tracks, or beats, as he calls them. 25 of them have been selected for releases on U-TRAX, good for over 2 hours of music, across this album and the Lovesick EP.

Growing up in LA, Thavius Beck entered the hip-hop scene as member of Global Phlowtations, and released several solo albums under the Adlib moniker. In later years, he released five albums under his own name on labels like Mush, Big Dada and Plug Research, and also produced albums for artists like Saul Williams and K‑the‑I???, and did some remixing for amongst others Nine Inch Nails.
Nowadays he combines making music with a career as a succesful certified Ableton and Bitwig trainer and as a music teacher at Berklee NYC.

The tracks vary in style a lot, but what they have in common is that they either are moody – in U-TRAX lingo: deep - or they are drum heavy. The common denominator would probably be 'experimental/instrumental hip-hop', reminiscent of producers like Flying Lotus. People have tried all sorts of comparisons to pinpoint Thavius' sound, ranging from 'between DJ Shadow and Orbital' and 'a mix of Massive Attack and The Orb'. None of these are spot on, yet quite a few of these tracks feel like a happy marriage between hip-hop beats and techno sounds.

Despite the fact that some tracks are 20 years old and have been made with widely different gear (one track was even made on a PlayStation 2), this selection sounds remarkably balanced, yet diverse.

From the irresistible single 'Lovesick/Still Sick' to the dark and massive 'Birdsong' (that echoes the sound of his popular song 'Atmos'), and from the head-nodding 'Work!' to the soothing 'Reunited With The All' - if this collection showcases anything, it's Thavius' brilliant production and composing skills, as well as his wizard-level sampling techniques. The result is a luscious electronic music album with a broad appeal.

As a producer you allways get inspired by a diverse range of musical genres and other producers. This first episode of “Twerk Life Balance” is initiated by the producer duo “Twerking Class Heroes” and it features three other artists (Meister Lampe, DJ Marcelle - Another nice mess and Candie Hank) with quite diverse production techniques. On the A side we have two Hip Hop oriented electronic bangers from the Twerking Class Heroes and Meister Lampe. Both tracks are inspired by either traditional arabic music or belly dance music. The B Side opens with a deep downbeat and electro song from the Twerking Class Heroes and gets followed by a kucek oriented acid game track from Candie Hank. The final track is a super distorted Club Banger made for a DJ Set like one of DJ Marcelle and produced by herself.

The music that would become Conversation Peace began with a trip to KPM’s London HQ in late January of 2020. I had just finished wrapping up post production on my album Ocean Bridges with Archie Shepp and Raw Poetic. I actually received the invitation during the summer of 2019 during studio sessions for Ocean Bridges and scheduling for the top of 2020 made the most sense. So I packed up a few records and a few drum machines then embarked on my first trip to England. We had a quick meeting about expectations, then it was time to see the archive. As a record collector, I’m very familiar with the legacy of the KPM brand. I had been lucky enough to find a few over the past decade during my digging trips up and down the east coast, but looking at the complete vinyl catalogue was a great privilege. I anxiously began combing through records from morning to night looking for the right sounds. The whole experience was surreal.



Listening to the entire catalogue was a history lesson and the amount of great composers and compositions in the recordings was endless. I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t somewhat overwhelming. As a producer looking for textures, inspiration and grooves, the abundance of those things made it extremely difficult to narrow down what I wanted to use. From drums to sound fx to orchestras to small rhythm sections to ambient noises, I heard a wide variety of things and they were all so well produced and recorded. Every instrument you can think of was there! I spent a little over a week capturing sounds knowing that my work was cut out for me when I returned to my home in DC. Once I got home, I got to work. I captured so much, that it took me about a month just to organize all those ideas. Little did I know the world would drastically change in the next month following my return. My flight to and from London would indefinitely be my last time traveling for a while. I worked diligently with the material and took my time making sure I had strong ideas. The history of KPM and the opportunity to collaborate with the prestigious lineage made the stakes very high for me and I knew I needed to deliver a quality product. "Transiro" is comprised of six lean tracks that quake and bounce with an effortless style. The EP presents a return to where he left off with his acclaimed album OKA. A broad palette of sound sources are selected and reworked in Le Motel's productions, often layering and juxtaposing the unfamiliar.

Having travelled out to speak with and learn from the different cultures and communities that you find interwoven through his work, there's a special resonance that these tracks possess.

"Transiro" presents a spread of hybrid dance works that synthesise Le Motel's research with juke, hip hop, techno, and more otherworldly strains from clubs around the globe.

Pedro Zopelar is a musician, producer and DJ based in São Paulo, Brazil. Known for his many different projects like the duo “My Girlfriend” with Benjamin Sallum, the electronic performative act “Teto Preto” and his effervescent party “ODD” - Zopelar presents “Joy Of Missing Out” on Apron Records! a collection of 17 tracks that represents the actual direction of his solo works.

Back in 2015, when we started Hip Dozer we were overwhelmed by the amount of talents that were still defending that old school way of doing beats and the amazing creativity that was circulating in the scene.

In a period of time where hip hop was evolving so much and getting always further (sometimes for the best but also for the worst), it appeared evident to us that we had to defend this rising scene of young beatmakers that were so tied up to the roots of the 'old-school' beatmaking but still bringing it to another level.

It has been 5 years since we have created Hip Dozer Records with our 1st Anniversary compilation and this is what makes this compilation such a special project every time. Its goal remains the same and will always be, championing the art of beatmaking that we love and help to showcase new artists from the scene.

This year we have the chance to have onboard some of our favorite new talent from the scene with the like of Burrito Brown, Loland, Imagiro, we also have the chance to have standard bearers like Jinsang, Saib, Flofilz, Melodisinfonie, Kazam, Shuko and, cherry on the cake, the french hip hop legend DJ Cam on top of that.

We want to thank so much all the artists who took part in this project and that were as enthusiastic as we are in its realization. It’s been such a thrill since this venture started and this is just the beginning. Much love to all of you guys listening and supporting wherever you are.

Museum inklusive Skulpturengarten, einen Spielplatz,
Basket- und Boule- Platz, aber vor allem Menschen, die ihn
für ihre ganz persönliche Entspannung als grünen
Rückzugsort zu nutzen wissen. Und er hat Bias & Mettphonic,
die beide, so sehr man auch schlecht über Duisburg und
seinen Park redet, mit ihm verbunden sind. Im Herzen der
Stadt gelegen war er ihre verruchte Wohlfühloase um nach
den Produktionen in die neuen Werke zu lauschen und die
Gedanken schweifen zu lassen. Gedanken, die nur der Musik

represents both artists’ vision of a sound shifting from

In the collective unconscious there is a very specific aesthetic associated with keyboard and drum records: a certain sound, specific rhythms... This album, full of winks and exceptions, aims to get away from these stereotypes and gathers a compilation of varied songs both by gender and sound. Its

nexus are the two used tools: keyboard and drums, both manufactured in Barcelona about 40 or 50 years ago, with the problems and limitations that this implies. The challenge has been to make a keyboard and drum record, opening the possibilities of these instruments, away from the inertia and the vices that have accumulated for years, to get some fresh and update songs.

All this, with the exceptions that are needed.

Committed to taking advantage of the resources, because we have ruined the planet, and uncomfortable with the constant and unnecessary spoiling that continues happening to sustain an absurd pace of life, Corcs Drum & Organ takes chances recovering an obsolete and despised technology to demonstrate that the aging of things are subjective. Everything can be repaired. The problem is, if the price of the repair exceeds that of the workforce of semi-enslaved people, making a new one on the other side of the world.

If there is a skill reserved for a privileged few, that's the ability to grow the songs hit by hit and beat by beat. Follower of great drummers like Nate Smith, Ringo Starr, John Bonham and Brian Blade; Oriol Casas applies his techno producer knowledge, to his more than 20 years playing drums with renowned musicians, to connect the emotions of the public with the emotions of the musicians who play with him.

Apart from rejecting digital technology, Joan Sobrevals is a keyboardist who drinks from the sound of the records and the music of Booker T, Barbara Dennerlein, Jimmy Smith, Jackie Mittoo ... From his feet, some funk basses come out, without virtuoso pretensions and from his hands, a collection of

rhythms and melodies that you don't know very well if they sound familiar or not.

It seems incredible that 2 boys, with their hands and feet, are able, with two instruments from the late '70s, to make such powerful music and danceable concerts, as interesting to see and feel for those who still resist to get up of the chair.

I Conceived 'darkly' In 2015 As A Piano Album. I Was Fascinated By This Instrument And Couldn't Think About Electronic Music At All. I Spent A Lot Of Time In Front Of The Instrument Before My Fingers Could Play What Was Needed. And At Some Point, I Got A Few Solo Piano Tracks, But They Sounded Very Raw And Unfinished. Almost At The Same Time, I Was Getting Back Into Experiments With Electronic Music And Focussed More On Recording Piano In An Electronic Context. Paying More Attention To Different Textures And Multilayeredness. I Was Working On Soundtracks For Films By Noir Films And This Helped Me Finish Two Compositions, Which Later Determined One Of The Directions Of The Album And Served As A Bridge Between The Solo Piano Compositions I Recorded At The Beginning, And The New Electronic Tracks. At The Beginning Of 2018, I Got Back To The First Solo Piano Tracks To Give Them A Finished Form, Adding The Missing Elements That I Could Not Hear Three Years Earlier. I Wanted To Make A Piano Album, But I Got The Album Which Was Formed By Itself And Became A Result Of My Experiences, Worries, And Events Of My Life That Occurred During These Few Years. I Dedicate This Work To A Human, Which Shares This Life With Me, Supports Me And Believes In Me Like Nobody Else! I Dedicate It To My Wife.

Beka Gochiashvili (Georgia)

Beka is a proud Georgian and one of the world’s greatest young Jazz prodigies. From playing jazz clubs in Tbilisi at he age of 10 to touring with Stanley Clarke at the age of 16, Beka has really made a name for himself amongst the international Jazz community. At the age of 13 Beka was the youngest winner of the Bösendorfer Solo Jazz Piano Competition, Montreaux Switzerland. He was also the semi finalist and youngest participant in the Thelonius Monk International Jazz competition. He attended Juilliard at 13 and started playing on stage as young as 15 with Jazz legends such as Stanley Clarke, Lenny White and Chick Corea. Currently touring the world as part of The Stanley Clarke Band.
