The Swiss trio AMAMI returns with ISLANDS, a new EP featuring four explosive tracks along with their Dub versions. Following the success of their previous projects GIANT and SOLEIL, the group continues to explore the intersection of Dancehall, Dub, and Afro-Pop, while staying true to their live approach, without sequencers or computers.

Issued from the EP, we release today on a 7’’ Wrong Way. The track kicks off with a powerful Jamaican influence, mixing Steppa, Rockers, and Dub into AMAMI’s signature explosive fusion. This track, a real dance floor igniter during the group’s European tours, is an energetic bombshell that turns every set upside down.

In addition to the original song, the 7’’ features a Dub version, paying homage to the Jamaican Dub scene. For this remix, AMAMI collaborated with Dub legends VIBRONICS from the UK. These bold reinterpretations honor the genre, emphasizing bass, drums, and sound effects like Delay and Reverb, all while staying rooted in a dynamic and experimental vibe that invites dancing.

We only have a small handful of these great discs from our friends at Ace Tone. A real nice slice of underground uk dub history, with this first-time-on-wax reissue of two low-slung dubwise pieces from Arkology, who came at dub in the late 80s and 90s, with a UK hip hop angle (and even had a production/mix hand from Aba Shanti-I at some point back in the 90s). Niceness.

Aswad’s 1983 album Live and Direct was recorded at the Notting Hill Carnival. Accompanied by a powerful horn section they created an energetic show, in which they let the listener hear the depth of their music. It’s an amazing journey with highlights like “Drum & Bass Line”, “Soca Rumba”, and the fantastic “Rocker’s Medley”. This British Reggae classic is fully packed with their unique rhythm and funky grooves. Amazing beats and wobbly bass lines marks this as one of the greatest live albums from the Reggae scene.

The long-lasting British reggae group Aswad recorded over 20 albums, released several charting hit songs, and are still performing live.

When English reggae band Aswad released their third album New Chapter in 1981, it didn’t perform as well as expected within the mainstream reggae market, and so the band decided to reimagine the record with a dub remix. That did not go unnoticed: A New Chapter of Dub, released in 1982, went on to receive critical acclaim and is considered to be one of the greatest dub albums of all time. Known for its shuddering bass and reverberated brass, as well as the traditional dub use of delay, drop-outs and echo, the album became a landmark in its genre.

If anyone in the reggae circles could be described as having their own sound it would have to be Mr Augustus Pablo, born Horace Swaby 1954 St Andrew Jamaica. He took the humble melodica a wind blown mouth keyboard and made it shine.

His musical journey started one sunny day in 1969. Walking into Herman Chin- loy's Aquarius Records shop and on playing his melodica so impressed its owner that he was taken off to Randy's Studio 17, the very next day to cut his first record 'Iggy Iggy'. But it was his second tune under the guidance of Clive Chin again cut at Randy's, the seminal 'Java ' that put the young Augustus Pablo on the map. Clive Chin continued his work producing Pablo's debut album 'THIS IS AUGUSTUS PABLO' . An instrumental affair on which the neo-mystical ''Far East'' sound synonymous with Pablo's work emerged.

Having worked with most of the top producers of the time,Lee Perry,Keith Hudson, Bunny Lee, Augustus decided to set up his own label "Rockers", named after his brothers sound system. Where many of his tunes would first be heard.The label came to define a new and exciting chapter in reggae history.Even when versioning acknowledged classic Studio One rhythms there was a precious maturity and depth to Pablo's productions that kept him at the top throughout the late 1970s and into the 1980s. His 'King Tubby meets the Rockers Uptown' set which featured some of these rhythms reworked; Swing EasySkanking Easy, Frozen SoulFrozen Dub, stands as one of the true dub classic albums of any reggae education.

The release of ‘Rising Sun’ in 1986 on Greensleeves began a new era for Augustus Pablo edging his Rockers revolution into the digital age. In his own words Rising uon “mix-up the vibes a little more” from steppers like ‘Pipers of Zion’, revival reggae ‘African Frontline’ and the deep and heavy ‘The Day Before The Riot’. Recorded at Channel One, Tuff Gong, Dynamic & HC&F and engineered by Phillip Smart and Scientist.

Punched out as the dub companion to Junior Delgado’s hugely successful ‘One Step More’ album, the release of ‘One Step Dub’ couldn’t have been better timed coming on the back of a hugely successful tour of Europe with Delgado. Recorded at Channel One, Tuff Gong & Dynamic and engineered by Pablo, Soldgie, Steven Stanley & Tony Kelly One Step Dub included dubs to some big hitters from Jux including ‘Hanging Tree’ & ‘Riot In A Juvenile Prison’.

With the release of "Rockers Come East" in 1987 Augustus Pablo continued to 'mix up the vibes a little more'. Featuring digi-dubs to Junior Delagado’s hits "Raggamuffin Year" & "Call Me", steppers like "Sun Ray Dub" and the deep and heavy "Zion Seals Dub" the album continued Pablo's journey into a revolutionary new age. Recorded at HC&F, Creative Sound & Tuff Gong studios, engineered by Philip Smart and Michael Carroll, here's another great longplayer re-issued with the Greensleeves seal of quality.

The visionary musician and record producer Augustus Pablo made some of the most unique and individual recordings in the history of reggae. As with his friend and mentor, Jackie Mittoo, the man born Horace Swaby was of mixed Indian and African heritage, and although his middle-class background might have pointed him in a very different direction, the lure of Jamaica's sound system culture captured him at a young age, particularly after debilitating health problems saw him drop out of school.

ANDYWORK is a collection of twelve rare or previously unreleased productions by Bob Andy from the early to mid 1970s.

Everybody loves the vocal sound of Bob Marley. But what about the music that supports his songs? This album contains a variety of mostly instrumental remixes of well-known Bob Marley songs. An eclectic mix of names have put their personal stamp on some of Bob’s classic tunes with some Interesting results. Here comes the time of another Stepper release, after releasing one of the first vinyl of Digid we decided to team up again and bring on board Dubbing, Bukkha and Ras Addis for our 13th release on 12” vinyl.

A spacial journey through the cosmic stepper sounds, blending heavy synthesiser sounds, ruff drums patterns and heavy bass lines. On the A side we have the well-known duo Digid and Dubbing Sun, hailing from Belgium and Austria, and also Ras Addis on the vocals, the B side features a heavy remix from the American, Bukkha.

The Lost Albums In Jamaican Bass Player, Bandleader, Songwriter, Singer And Producer Boris Gardiner's Discography - First Official Issue Of These Impossibly Rare Albums. Contains Extensive Booklet, With Jeff Mao Detailing Gardiner's Career And The 70s Jamaican Music Industry. Unpublished Photos And Ephemera. 1970s Jamaica suffered an unprecedented stretch of political turmoil and violence, and as the country’s economy and morale collapsed, reggae and its offshoots exploded worldwide. Boris Gardiner enjoyed great success leading bands, issuing albums that mixed reggae, ska, soul and funk, and collaborating with the likes of Lee (Scratch) Perry and Herman Chin-Loy in their legendary studios and playing on hundreds of records. So many that he lost count. Sometime around the issue of his Boris Gardiner Happening Is What’s Happening album - a Loft classic, with David Mancuso favoring Gardiner’s take of Booker T. and the MG’s “Melting Pot” at his legendary gathering and his soundtrack to Every N----r Is A Star, famously sampled by Kendrick Lamar and used as the introduction to the film Moonlight, two albums - Ultra Super Dub Vols. 1 and 2 - credited to The Boris Gardiner Happening - two albums so obscure that for the longest time Boris wasn’t even aware that they existed. Following classics such as King Tubby’s Dub From the Roots and Augustus Pablo’s King Tubbys Meets Rockers Uptown, Miami-based Alty East’s Ultra Records took instrumentals Gardiner created for a run of 45s, and created and issued these compilations of dubbed out originals and JA renditions of songs by Otis Redding, Clarence Carter, Betty Wright, Jimmy “Bo” Horne and Ultra label-mate Frankie Zhivago Young. Released in tiny runs in handmade, silkscreened, paste-on covers, they have become some of the most sought after Jamaican albums. Now, issued under Boris’ guidance, and with a detailed booklet by Jeff Mao, which delves into the deep scene which birthed these remarkable records, we can finally consider the last, unheard portion of this landmark musician’s career. Bunny Wailer’s Blackheart Man is one of the ultimate Reggae masterpieces from the former member of the Wailers. His solo debut album is both complex as attractive and critics have been praising this record for many years. Bunny explores themes like repatriation, marijuana, and his childhood in Jamaica. The title is based on the fable of the Blackheart Man, who would take the heart out of every person he meets on his way.
