Aus der Frühphase des Lloyd James aka Prince Jammy (aka King Jammy) kommt ein sehr interessantes Dub Album mit sechs Versionen zu Originalstücken des Black Uhuru Debütalbum "Love Crisis" von 1977 und drei weitere Tracks.

Die Black Uhuru Titel wurden im Harry J Studio aufgenommen und in King Tubbys Studio von Prince Jammy abgemischt. Zu den beteiligten Musikern gehören Drums: Sly Dunbar, Carlton "Santa" Davis, Bass: Robbie Shakespeare, Guitar: Earl "Chinna" Smith, Organ, Clavinet, Harpsichord: Winston Wright, Piano: Keith Sterling und eine ungenannte Horn Section!

Bei dem Cover handelt es sich um eine Neuauflage der ursprünglichen Pressung von 1977 auf Clive Hunts US-ansässigem Label Azul, bei dem der Bandname versehentlich mit einem einem Doppel-B anstatt mit einem Doppel-S geschrieben wurde.

We are pleased to welcome you once more aboard Africa Airways. For your third flight your pilot has informed us of some particularly adverse turbulence en-route. Your trip may be multi-coloured, the winds may be swirling and the clouds may be kaleidoscopic. Ladies and Gentlemen, please fasten your seat belts for your mind-expanding journey through the Afro-Psych skies. Opening up proceedings are Afro National from Sierra Leone. Their progressive psyche-highlife foot-stomper setting down a marker for things to come. Next it is Ifang Bondi who serves up a swirling concoction of powering afro rhythms, fuzz guitar, magic flute, fuzz organ, all underpinned with a driving powerful driving bass line. Next stop is Mali where Sory Bamba serves up the highlight from his 1979 album "Kanaga 78". An early use of psychedelic synthesizer paired cleverly with pulsating bass guitar and harsh choppy guitar. We step forward in time a few years for the distorted guitar chords and over-stacked beats of "Nzango" by African Black. Bunzu Soundz from Ghana close side A with their choppy, percussive, "Zinabu". Messi Jacques & Les Dissoumbas De Libreville open up side B with "Onga Ben Ma Na Mene Mebua", prepare for an onslaught of psych organ, crazed drumming and eeechho vocals to the max. Decca West Africa, Nigerian favorites Ofo and The Black Company grind out the psych factor next with their conga driven fuzz fest "Allah Wakbarr". The Damas Swing Orchestra slow proceedings down with their afro left-field swing micro epic "Odylife". We take a brief detour via Indonesia for the AKA and their dance floor mover "Shake Me". It's a track of two halves. Psychedelic throughout but in the second half things swing fast and funky. We close down with the master Manu Dibango. Proving he can turn his hand to just about any genre of music, the Cameroonian legend delivers his pensive, xylo-driven, riff locked, soundtrack epic "Ceddo" to close out our journey. Akae Beka's inimitable style, developed over decades performing with St. Croix based band Midnite and countless recordings (including 2014 iTunes reggae album of the year BEAUTY FOR ASHES and RIDE TRU). At the point of his untimely passing in 2019, he had released over 70LP's. He is without a doubt one of the most prolific reggae artists ever known and his quanity is always matched with quality, with his albums consistently featuring in the top 10 on the billboard charts reggae LPs.

This release makes no exception. 5 years on from the original 2016 CD and Digital release which charted at number 6 in the reggae billboard charts, this timeless masterpiece is being re-released on 12" Vinyl and Cassette tape, courtesy of Before Zero Records. Produced by ZIK bassist, JAH David, LIVICATED was Akae Beka's debut release on the Zion High Productions (ZHP) label. The album features solid original riddims composed and arranged by the ZIK family with musical contributions from Aston Barrett Jr. (drums), JAH Bless (horns), Chet Samuel (guitar), and Yami Bolo (melodica). Particularly striking on LIVICATED are the strident, Burning Spear-like horn arrangements and the variety and range of Drew Keys' keyboard voices.

Live horns and analog sounds meet digital steppers on this new collaboration EP between Bukkha and Brooklyn-based Super Hi-Fi.

Long time Dub-Stuy affiliated producer Bukkha returns to the label with a brand new collaboration with Brooklyn-based five-piece Super Hi-Fi. Formed in 2010 and led by Ezra Gale, Super Hi-Fi mixes jazz-inflected trombone harmonies with the rhythmic elements of dub, funk and afrobeat. Bukkha has been mashing up classic dub sounds with innovative bass-heavy production for more than a decade, with recent releases on Infernal Sounds, System Music and Innamind Recordings. The two entities came together with a mission: combine live instrumentation and analog sounds with modern digital production tailored for sound systems... a concept that was a perfect fit for Dub-Stuy!

The man with the funky plan is back! Known for his groovy disco edits, Todh Teri is back with Deep In India Vol. 9. This all new record features another fellow sampler and old time record digger - Kone Kone.

The album starts off with Sampadan 30 where Kone Kone works his magic to bring out delicious crossover disco beats that characterise the charming 80s flowing into the alluring 90s of the Indian cinescape, with the old school glam of electric guitars and synths. This thumping track is followed by Sampadan 31 which is reminiscent of Chicago house but with Todh Teri’s classic Indian touch. Next up is Sampadan 32, with a simple yet funky bassline and juicy vocals that make you travel back in time to a golden era, making it quite an enticing vibe. Akae Beka's rich, deep, and multi-layered songwriting style, soulful, healing melodies and uncompromising devotion to RasTafari were developed over decades of performing with the St. Croix-based band Midnite and recording numerous albums. At the time of his untimely passing in 2019, Akae Beka had released over 70 LPs, making him one of the most prolific reggae artists ever known.

Jah Grid, features all-live instrumentation roots. Vaughn Benjamin's vocals and writing were exceptional and coupled with mystical and intense music played by veteran roots players. The album was produced by Tippy I, Blackfoot, and Vaughn Benjamin, and included live drums, heavy bass grooves, and melodic keyboard playing. Tuff Lion played guitar on several tracks, and Akae Beka produced and played on three songs. Jah Grid was a powerful listening experience, with each song taking the listener to new dimensions of lyrical content and musical presentation.

After years of eager waiting, vinyl enthusiasts who are also fans of Akae Beka can finally get their hands on a 12" vinyl LP version of this album, thanks to Before Zero Records. This provides the opportunity to appreciate the album's analogue form and the artwork, which is a 12" square masterpiece created by Ras Marcus, the artist who created the powerful visual presence that became associated with much of the I Grade/Akae Beka works over the years.

Awa Fall is a rising reggae star, born to a Senegalese father and Italian mother, she started writing, recording and performing at the age of 14. Today, she has toured the world, featured on national television, performed for the UN, FOA Women’s Committee and at major reggae festivals. Awa has shared the stage with major reggae artists such as Alborosie, Africa Unite and has worked with some of the most respected producers and singers in dub, reggae and beyond including; Alpha Steppa, Mad Professor, General Levy, M1 (Dead Prez), Gaudi, Murray Man, Kumar, Charlart58 and Vibronics.

Alpha Steppa (Steppas Records / Dub Dynasty) has been surrounded by soundsystem culture from a young age. As the son and nephew of respected UK dub pioneers Alpha & Omega (Greensleeves) his dubbed out style draws upon the sounds of his musical heritage, filtered through an exploration of reggae, dub, hip hop, lo-fi, sound design, traditional and electronic music. Alpha Steppa has toured the world, produced numerous critically acclaimed albums and most notably developed a dynamic community around his unique sound and conscious message.

Early in his career as a child star during the late 1960s, reggae singing legend Dennis Emmanuel Brown, received the nickname of "boy wonder of Jamaican music." In 1981, reggae fans unanimously ordained Brown with a new title, "Emmanuel, the Crown Prince of Reggae" and the undisputed heir apparent, following the death of reggae "king" Bob Marley. Brown, with his extremely powerful tenor and distinctive singing voice, established himself easily as one of the most impressive reggae artists of the twentieth century. A happy and friendly man, Brown amassed a loving and loyal following throughout his career, and upon his death at the early age of 42, he was widely eulogized for his outgoing personality. He recorded more than 100 records, including over 50 albums, from the time he was in his teens. The world of reggae music lost a "towering talent," noted Billboard magazine, when Brown passed away on July 1, 1999.

Produced by George Nowak, a German musician who ended up in the Cayman Island in 1971, aka the Barefoot man. “What a heat” is a dreamy slow paced disco cruise (with obvious reggae influences) highly suggestive of the beautiful nuances that might be part of West Caribbean island life. With the opportunity of more playtime allowed on the 12” format, an attempt at further prolonging this dreamy feeling is made with an extended edit. On the B-side, a Calypso bonus beats style edit by Castro takes a few bars of the original B-side “Phyllip's Calypso” and turns it into a tripped out dubby dacefloor DJ tool. Dub War trennten sich 1999 und 3/4 der Band entfachten im Crossover-Metal mit ihrer neugegründeten Band namens Skindred ein neues Feuer. 2014 kam es dann zu einem Live-Comeback von DUB WAR durch vereinzelte Konzerte, aber erst 2016 wurden offiziell neue Songs veröffentlicht, um dann endlich im Sommer 2022 mit dem neuen Album für die grosse Comeback-Sensation über Earache Records zu sorgen!

Originally recorded at Channel One UK around 1990, the master tape was accidentally wiped and lost. The full riddim was rebuilt from the original drums at Seventh Sense Studio, and has now been updated at Earth Works Amsterdam with additional instruments including a great brass section.


In late 2020 Tena Stelling stapped back up to the microphone and re-voiced this lost classic. Jah Works is delighted to present the resulting fresh-vintage anthem, that remains as relevant as it was when it was first voiced 30 years ago, if not more so.

The album classic from from 1982 re-issued. All music recorded at Channel One and mixed at King Tubby's studio by Scientist, as backing band the Roots Radics in fine style. A top-a-top Henry 'Junjo' Lawes production. Riddim directory note: "Love In A Mi Heart" is a reminiscence of "Bubble Up", the title track "Chip In" is based on the Prophecy/Peanut Vendor riddim and "Saturday Night Jamboree" is on the same riddim as Eek-A-Mouse's "Noah' Ark".

The stellar production trinity that is Zion I Kings have been involved collectively and individually in creating some of the most highly regarded contributions to the vast Akae Beka catalogue. Beauty For Ashes was named as the best reggae album of 2014 according to iTunes. A monumental achievement for undiluted, uncompromising RasTafari roots reggae music this side of the millennium. Two of the LP's tracks, Weather the Storm and Same I Ah One, have been catapulted into global notoriety in part due to the viral success of the YouTube video of the 'Dub in the Rainforest' session organised in St. Croix by Tippy I in 2014. The video offered an unparalleled audio visual insight of the powerful, captivating, energy of Vaughn Benjamin, Pressure Buss Pipe, Ras Batch, and many of the bredrin and sisterin of St. Croix rallying around the I Grade Dub living dub experience.

Following 8 years of anxious anticipation, for the countless Akae Beka fans that are also vinyl connoisseurs, this LP is now being released on as a 12" vinyl LP courtesy of Before Zero Records. This offers the listener not only the chance to enjoy this LP in an analogue form, but also the chance to hold the artwork as a 12" square masterpiece, created by the hands of Ras Marcus, the artist who gave the powerful visual presence that became synonymous to much of the I Grade / Akae Beka works over the years.

Majical, a wordsmith, undefinable by genre. An MC and a Rastaman that's journeyed through garage, grime, hiphop and reggae to arrive at his own destination he's coined as 'roots hop culture'. Part of the RU1 Fam, a UK hiphop collective who received international recognition for their debut album Otito in 2018.

'Do You Know' started out as a dubplate on the 'King of Grime' instrumental by producer Lewi B. Majical penned this song to exalt the many earthy achievements of 'King of Ethiopia' Emperor Haile Selassie. On hearing this version, Kibir La Amlak approached Majical to make a new version of the track together, that brought it into the world of UK Reggae Sound System he hails from. The track was first recorded in 2017 and then remained as a dubplate, championed by UK sound system 'Iration Steppas' and South African sound system 'Kebra Ethiopia'. It was also performed as part of the Kibir La Amlak live dub show on numerous tours around the world. After countless requests, Majical and Kibir La Amlak both felt that this coming anniversary of the birth of Haile Selassie was due time to release the track for public consumption. Its since been re-recorded, remixed and remastered and is now ready for release.

Igziabeher Yi mas gan (Let Jah be Praised!) - as we follow up with the next release forwarding from Ashanti Selah Music; we are proud to present a fresh combination to the label with Iqulah Rastafari who is a true ambassador and master of his faith as well as being a high-caliber artist in his own right; this release delivers the whole roots and nothing but the roots in its full entirety. Hailing from Jamaica and toured the 4 corners of the world with his band 'Giddeon Family' as well as performing many shows in Africa with the 'Azania Band' - Iqulah always brings the spiritual power and most honourable Rasta energy in connection with the music; making it a such an engaging experience when being among the vibration.

The Maxi-single offers two original vocals and two dub mixes per side with strong lyrics and heavy riddims to accompany!

Moonshine Recordings kicks off 2018 with a massive release in a steppa style. Dub Conductor baked a real sound system testing tool fuelled with bass to make your eyes wobble, while Dark Angel delivered the message of consciousness. This little 7 inch needs to be heard and felt on a proper sound system.

The album The Skatalite was originally released in 1969 and contains some of the best tracks from the Skatalites cut for producer Duke Reid. It was recorded with the classic line-up, featuring Don Drummond on trombone, Jackie Mittoo on piano, and Jonny “Dizzy” Moore on the trumpet. This 12-track set includes “Eastern Standard Time”, “Dan-De-Lion” and “Yard Broom” amongst others.

The Skatalite is available as a limited edition of 750 individually numbered copies on turquoise coloured vinyl.

Ebo Taylor and The Pelikans is being reissued on vinyl by Comet Records, pressed on high quality vinyl, with label designs and artwork as per the original release.

Originally released by Ghanian Abookyi label in 1976, Ebo Taylor and The Pelikans is one of Taylor’s most elusive releases, and marked the first time he sang on the seminal Ghana Funk anthem “Come Along”.
The album saw the legendary musician, producer, composer and arranger joining forces with 12-piece Cape Coast Ghanian band ‘The Pelikans’ led by Bessa Simmona with rhythm guitarist Fifi Orleans Lindsay.

Put simply, there has never been a musician and artist quite like Ebo Taylor. As an artist, arranger, musician and producer he’s a combination of James Brown, Nile Rodgers and Quincy Jones: He not only created some of the greatest funk songs ever recorded but as much if not more than that, his genius as an arranger gave the signature sound to high life and afrobeat that was made famous by his one-time London roommate (from when they were both music students, in The early 1960s) Fela. And his funky guitar brought a percussive sound to the rhythm section that didn't exist before.
