Time Passing - Re-collection

Music of Domenico Scuteri (aka Time Passing) is the focal point of a complex network of musical experience, gained after years of work dedicated to the research of new forms of composition and expression. The musical family where he was born, led him to become interested young age - to the magical world of sound. By studying and experimenting with jazz and applications of electronic music has become multi-edge. This new album is a collection of published pieces, composed in time by Mr. Scuteri, most of the remixes that give new life to the historical parts of the artist. A number of collaborations between the musicians and deejays to remark, all the remixes created for the song Miss Tia "Miss Tia Regrets." The album explores the sounds warmer and softer, more commonly described as a lounge or chill out, but that in of itself bring the essence of the soul, Latin jazz and easy listening sounds

Wah Wah 45s
10.11.2014

Wah Wah 45s are proud to present their debut release from vocalist, keyboard player, producer and afrobeat giant Dele Sosimi!

Born in Hackney, East London, but soon to return to his parents' native Nigeria at the age of four, Dele was schooled and raised in Fela Anikulapo Kuti's shadow at the height of early 70s afrobeat. Having been chosen by Fela to join his band at somewhat of a tender age, he was still a young man when sharing Fela's Glastonbury stage in 1984, and became both Musical Director for both Fela's Egypt 80 and Femi Kuti's Positive Force.

After Fela's passing in 1997, Dele went on to concentrate on his own solo career and, with diligent patience, carved out his own afrobeat crown. In London, where he now resides, his Afrobeat Vibration all-nighters are charged with his passion, labours and his unrelenting spirit and deliver Fela classics alongside his own compositions from his first two studio albums, Turbulent Times, and Identity.

This new single, Sanctuary, marks a new era in Dele's musical story. Recorded, mixed and produced by Nostalgia 77 (Tru Thoughts) and featuring most of his regular Afrobeat Orchestra members, it's the first taste of what's to come with his third long-player due for release on Wah Wah 45s in the spring of 2015. With an organic, urgent afro-funk sound, combined with Nostalgia 77's perfectly pitched production, it's sure to make it worth the wait.

SJO's debut on Do Right!,Freedomshowcases the roots of the band's now undeniable afrobeat sound. The album notably includes "Mista President," the breakout single that started it all, a militant afro-banger that is still filling dancefloors internationally.

With sell out events, critically acclaimed releases and massive festival appearances, they have cemented their place as the number one sound in the new wave of British Reggae. Already a proven hit in the clubs, it is now being released to a wider audience with an official release on 12' vinyl and digital download alongside a classy music video to boot. This tune is UK dancehall fyah at its best - Run go tell a friend! Ed West, also well known as the drummer from the highly respected band The Drop, on this occasion takes control of the buttons and hits us with a classic slice of UK dancehall that has been mashing up dances across the country. With 2 different cuts of equally high pedigree from 2 of the most exciting UK talents, Parly B and Jago, each with its own heavy weight dub version from UK legend Manasseh plus murderous Jungle remixes from J-Man and FLeCK this release is a sure fire anthem for 2014. .LIGHTER! Parly B: What a year it has been for this man. Having established his reputation with the Skints, Parly has gone on to take 2013 by storm establishing himself as the most saught after MC on the UK dancehall scene with recent hits on Mungo's Hi Fi's Scotch Bonnet and Reggae Roast amoung many others. His track 'Dem a Fight' on this release is arguably his biggest and baddest to date and sets a message of intent for 2014. Watch out for this man, he is gonna be BIG! - Check out the video for Dem a Fight here: Jago came to fame as the front man of dub/reggae outfit Onlyjoe and brings his rugged, energetic style to the release with great effect. Jago's cut, entitled Ilani, is a tribute to his first daughter who has been a continual source of inspiration to him. He is currently putting the finishing touches on his debut album, entitled 'Jago And Friends' which is set to be released in early 2014 and is set to make big waves in the UK Reggae scene and beyond. J-man delivers an absolute killer of a Jungle remix that is sure to excite Europe's vast sea of Jungle fanatics. Fast becoming one of the most talked about up and coming producers on the UK underground rave circuit, Bristol's dub plate munching badman has been taking the scene by storm with his trademark style of party flexed Ragga-Jungle. Having just signed to Run Tingz Records and with his debut album soon to drop, things are heating up for this exciting talent. FLeCK: Next up we have FLeCK ,an electronic music producer extraordinaire hailing from Athens, Greece, who hits us with a down tempo 140 BPM Jungle reworking. RUFF an TUFF this is a hard hitting alternative to the original and brings brand new flavour to the release. Having made big waves in the electronic music scene since the 90s, FLeCK's music has found its way into the record boxes of the likes Public Enemy's DJ Lord, Rusko and many others as well featuring on Diplo's Mad Decent blog and massive radio support. Reggae Roast is building a formidable catalogue featuring some of the most exciting artists in the UK and beyond. Key players in the resurgence of the UK Roots scene over the past 5 years, they are a leading light in the new generation of dub music. 2013 was big but 2014 is set to be even bigger.

Various - 'the One-derful!collection: One-derful! Records

The first installment of the One-derful! Collection focuses on the namesake imprint of this legendary Chicago label group - to be followed by compilations of the Mar-V-Lus, M-Pac!, Halo, Midas, and Toddlin' Town sub-labels. It marks the first in-depth study of what was once one of Chicago's most prominent African-American run labels.

One-derful! Records is available in 2xLP and CD formats, and within the grooves of these 25 tracks lie orchestrated soul classics from McKinley Mitchell and Betty Everett, raucous mid-1960s R&B dancers from the Five Du-Tones which shake every bone, superb deep soul ballads from Otis Clay, and extraordinary group harmony sides from The Sharpees and The Admirations, plus 12 tracks that have never been issued!

Between 1962 and 1971, the One-derful! family of labels released 180+ 45s of stunning soul, funk, and gospel. Over two years of painstaking research and work, including countless hours spent cataloging, transferring, and mastering 250 of the label's tapes, has contributed to an amazingly extensive reissue collection.

In addition, some of the world's leading experts have contributed liner notes and interviewed virtually every known surviving artist, producer, and otherwise involved party.

Central to One-derful! is the Leaner family. By 1962 when brothers George and Ernie Leaner started One-derful! Records, they were revered figures on Chicago's Record Row and beyond. They distributed material from labels like Motown and Stax and One-derful! attracted top talent. It wasn't uncommon for a WVON DJ to help One-derful! sign their newest discovery, or for their singers, musicians, songwriters, or producers to have Chess or Motown on their resumes.

Nearly 20 years prior, George and Ernie started work at their sister's Groove Record Shop. Before long, George was an assistant to legendary blues producer Lester Melrose, and later the brothers helped run Parkway Records - recording historic 78s featuring Little Walter and Muddy Waters. They did all of this before launching United Record Distributors in 1950 - regarded as the nation's first black owned record distributor. In addition, their uncle Al Benson was the most influential Radio DJ on Chicago's South Side. His on-air support and occasional partnerships with the Chess brothers proved crucial to their early success. He also helped many DJs get their start, including Vivian Carter who later

formed Vee-Jay Records. In fact, United Record Distributors hosted her wedding. The Leaner name also turns up in connection with many of the greats in blues and soul: George Leaner produced an early release for Berry Gordy's Tamla label, and in the 1970s Ernie Leaner and Stax's Al Bell partnered to form Ernie's Onestop and a chain of Record World stores. The Leaner family were among the most important black businessmen of music's golden era, yet much of their history has only been superficially documented until now.

Black Solidarity - String Up The Sound System
También disponible

LP

In the beginning of the 80's reggae music became increasingly in tune with what was happening in Kingston's dancehalls....probably more so than at any time since the sound system operators had started to make their own shuffle and boogie in the late 50's..
The international audience and the critics were too busy looking for a new Bob Marley to appreciate what was happening downtown and failed to acknowledge that this was a return to the real, raw roots of the music...brash,confidient,young record producers who were totally in tune with the youth audience stepped forward and seized the moment...
Oswald'Ossie'Thomas began his apprenticeship in the music business at the age of fourteen and served his time as a record salesman for Bunny 'Striker 'Lee and Winston 'Niney the Observer' Holness before moving on to Miss Sonia Pottingers Tip Top Records...
'I ended up working in three record stores on Orange Street from 1976 to 1981...Yeah man,Me deh 'pon me bicycle till I buy my motorcycle..Them days records were coming out left right and centre..everyday'
Ossie Thomas...
It was during his time with Miss Pottinger that Ossie began to produce records for himself and in 1979 Ossie and Phillip Morgan began The Black Solidarity label based deep in the Kingston ghetto on Delamere Avenue.
And the man who had made his name in the business selling other people's records now became one of the most important and influential record producers of the era..

Count Owen & His Calypsonians - Calypsos Down Jamaica Way

Crucial recordings of the early 60's multifaceted Jamaican Music. Funny and sharp, with the catchiest tunes: this is foundation music to move your feet! Calypsos Down Jamaica Way is the significant piece to discover howJamaican music was created by the fusion of the Jamaican indigenous Mento and popular Calypso.

The album starts off with the moody instrumental tune 'Good Bye to Rome' which is perfectly harmonized by the excellent performances of Sugar Belly's bamboo sax and Charlie Organaire's harmonica and banjo. The flute freely plays to a pure Mento beat on the next number 'Go Fife Go'. The love song 'Yours' follows and Count Owen sings smoothly on 'Lawd Some Men Could A Smart' to close the A-side.

Performer, producer, singer, mixer, sound alchemist, eccentric, The Upsetter Lee 'Scratch' Perry born Rainford Hugh Perry in 1936 , Kendal, Jamaica, is one of the most recognisable and well known characters of the reggae world.

The UK version of 'The Good, The Bad and The Upsetters' was released by Trojan Records in 1970, and although it had the Upsetters name on it, Lee Perry had no hand in its conception or production. Angered that an Upsetters album was released without his involvement, Perry issued his own version of the album back home in

Jamaica using the same Trojan album artwork but with totally different songs and a new stickered tracklist on the back.

Hopeton Lewis - 'take It Easy' With The 'rock Steady' Beateat

A fundamental album released in 1966 that determined the way Rocksteady was going to journey.

In 1966, Rude Boys were at the peak of the fame with their notorious behaviors, while Ska gradually started to slow down its tempo. This album paved the way for a newborn music, Rocksteady, with a rather slower and tighter rhythm approach. This album should be considered as one of the ten most important albums in Reggae history.

The descent from Ska, which had its derivation from Jazz or Rhythm and Blues, to Rocksteady, with its various potential elements which would be passed to the next decade of Reggae, has been allegedly created in this album with Trinidadian guitarist Lynn Taitt and his band The Jets as the backing band. Entitled "Take It Easy With The Rock Steady Beat", most of the tunes featured in this album were written for praising dancehall as if he'd have known this genre was going to rule the dance floors. Among the tunes in this album, "This Music Got Soul" was the coolest of all and called out the dawn of the Rocksteady era. This tune had a huge influence on the future developments of Reggae music.

Llans Thelwell And The Celestials - Llans Plays It All

With full respect to one of the greatest producers in Jamaican music history, Dub Store Records proudly launches a new re-issue series of Ronnie Nasralla's production.

Miraculously recorded in 1965 when Ska was at its best, Llans Plays It All is one of the rarest and killer Jamaican LP to date. The album is constructed with a Caribbean coast vibe such as Ska, Jazz, Afro, R&B, Soul, Jump Up and Cha Cha Cha. However this killer Montegonian band is surprisingly tight, presenting second to none great performances. The LP starts with "Jive Samba" by Cannonball Adderley, brilliantly arranged in the Afro-Caribbean Jazz style. Then moving on to some Jamaican R&B, to the featured track of the album "Mughead Ska", a slightly longer version than the 7" cut (released as DSR-RN7-01). Furthermore there is also the unmissable "Golden Horns" tune!

This is an ultimate selection for all DJ's and selectors, and a definitely must-have in the shelves of all Jamaican music lovers.

Jah Wobble & Pj Higgins - Inspiration

During his almost 40 years spanning career Jah Wobble recorded more than thirty solo albums and contributed to even more, uncountable projects. On the route from the post punk of Public Image Limited (PiL) via dubby dance music (especially in form of Jah Wobble's Invaders Of The Heart) to world music and ambient in all its facets the exceptionally gifted bass player hasn't left out almost any genre which is relevant in the modern British music scene. With "Inspiration" Jah Wobble returns to his roots, the love of his youth, reggae music. With the singer PJ Higgins he found the prefect companion, voice and songwriter to accomplish this endeavor with flying colors - a match made in heaven. Already the opener "My Heart's Burning" sparkles with the magic that arose during the recording sessions between Wobble and Higgins and sets the groundwork for the next seven tracks to come. PJ Higgin's vocals are piled layer upon layer and weave seamlessly in the deep, dubby bassline and the mellow guitar sounds. This masterfully, delicate reluctance is present over the full length of the album. Now and then, for instance with 'I Did Bad', it almost gets trip hoppy and you wouldn't be surprised if at it's finale suddenly Tricky would sneak around the corner. What makes the difference to the trip hop of Bristolian days is the mastery of these professional musicians who show off their craftsmanship on each and every song.

It's only with the third track, 'King Of Illusion', that you finally notice that the foundation of this album is actually reggae. The trumpet of Sean Corby and the offbeat-played keys by Wobble himself make slight references to the bygone sound of Studio One. On the other hand you can clearly hear that the separate instruments have been mixed in a lavish mastering above-board - in a way one now ought to speak of 'spherical reggae'. The core part of this masterpiece is of course the title track 'Inspiration'. Alex McGowan caps it all off with his very distinctive guitar playing and the thriftily applied Fender rhodes add extra virtuosity to the already very complex arrangement. 'Floating on high', sings PJ Higgins and means the transcendence you achieve when you addict yourself to all your inspirations and consider yourself as an aggregate of them. And this album is figuratively speaking jam-packed with influences and ideas, as many as it needs to make your head spin. Giddiness is no where in sight though, thanks to Jah Wobble's extra-experienced bass playing that pieces all the individual songs together to one big beautiful picture. It's the common thread to everything that's going on and the grounding of the electrifying voice of PJ Higgins. On 'What Have I Become' there's no holding back anymore though and she catches fire delivering a performance that goes right through you. The drums and percussions played by Marc Layton- Bennett add a heavy dose of voodoo to the mix. Even a spiritual ('Chaingang') find its way on to this immaculate and, after repeated listening, truly impressive collection. The call & response by PJ Higgins is simply accompanied by hand claps and foot stomps and, of course, Jah Wobble's restrained bass.

All in all, this is a well-rounded package trying to be a classic reggae album but overstating the case by turning out to be much more than that. If PJ Higgins and Jah Wobble were new kids on the block, they'd be a pair to keep an eye on. Keeping an ear to the ground doesn't hurt though

Cooly G - Wait Ÿtil Night

Cooly G

Wait Ÿtil Night

12inchHDBLP023
Hyperdub
20.10.2014

(October Collective Title) Cooly G returns with 'Wait 'Til Night', an album of sensitive, lo-fi bedroom music, it's lyrics sketching dreamy scenarios of seduction, lust and sex. The moody South London house of her debut album 'Playin Me' and her DJ sets has given way to a near-horizontal, sometimes melancholy and highly original take on R'n'B. The tracks swing effortlessly with no-fuss musical arrangements that are filtered through reggae sound system culture and US R'n'B in equal amounts, with a slight hint of dark synthpop wound throughout. The pace has come down from the deep, tribal house she's known for so far, with the only constants that run through the album - her intimate vocals and smokey synths - cross-hatched with her characteristic broken rhythmic sense. Opening with title track, Cooly coos about a date, over an infectious synth lead that wouldn't sound out of place on a Depeche Mode song. 'Like A Woman Should' is twilight music, synths rolling out like clouds over pulsing drums, while the vocals whisper invitations. 'Your Sex' is a fantasy with synths and surprisingly stabbing, hooky and distorted rhythm guitar. 'I Like' feels like the opening of an especially dreamy jungle track stretched into a full pop song. 'Dancing' rolls out drums and a mini guitar figure into a gently dizzy waltz, while 'Quick Question' plays out the scenario after the dance. 'Want's' barely-there song structure of drum and occasional bass with a wiry synth lead, is accompaniment to a near-whispered vocal. The pace steps up with the smouldering 'So Deep', with a deep synth bassline and a muscular hip hop beat. '1st Time' is all depth charge bleeps, guitars and piano. 'Freak You' is spacious and guitar driven, with Cooly beaming in directives through a distant voice transmission. The album's final honest, angry and forlorn track, 'The 3 Of Us', comes down hard on an absent parent, a full stop on the romance that the album narrates. It also reveals Cooly G as a skilled rap artist, something she's kept hidden until now, with double-time flows casting off a missing babyfather. 'Wait 'Til Night' finds Cooly G casting her net wider than her debut album, with songs that are more confident, accessible and stylistically consistent. The album comes laced with Cooly's unique honesty and charm and is sure to win her new fans with her catchy melodies, slow-jammed stories of blighted urban romance, and engaging lack of pretension.

Gentleman - Mtv Unplugged

The gentle side of Gentleman. Mind-bending stuff.

Soothsayers - Lost City

Soothsayers

Lost City

12inchREDE001LP
Red Earth Music
20.10.2014

Soothsayers first album Lost City is a mainly instrumental album with a heavy afro jazz groove, uplifting melodies and wonderful horn interplay between band leaders Idris Rahman and Robin Hopcraft. The album represents many of the influences heard on Soothsayers later albums but has a heavier jazz flavour. Afrobeat, reggae and South African influences are prevalent and there is an impressive list of guest musicians on the album such as vibes player Rojer Beaujolais, South African guitarist Luck Ranku and Hugh Masakela's pecussionist, Frances Fuster. Most of the tracks are Soothsayers originals but there are also versions of Abdullah Ibrahim's 'Ishmael' and 'Blazing Horns' by Jamaican horn players Tommy Mckook and Bobby Ellis. There are two vocals tracks on the album featuring the elder statesman of Afrobeat, Adesose Wallace - 'Follow Your Path' is a heavy and sweet Fela-style groove with fat horn section and 'Orin Ojishe' is reflective and spiritual call to the ancestors. The album is put together in a thoughtful way, and the various styles flow in a coherent and engaging way.
