There are precious few, if any contemporary UK artists whose creative credentials and influence extend as far and so consistently wide as Freestyle Records most recent signing Omar. Since first breaking through to worldwide renown all the way back in 1991 with his first releases on Gilles Petersons seminal Talking Loud label, and going onto work with all manner of musical legends including a certain Stevie, Erykah Badu, Angie Stone, Syreeta Wright, Common, and Carleen Anderson. With willing, enthusiastic and supportive collaborators like that, it's undeniable that Omar maintains his reputation as a soul music Don par excellence.

Fast forward to 2013, and Omar's reputation for being a thoroughly original artist following his own individual path remains undiminished. After recently picking up an M.B.E for his outstanding contribution to theUK music scene, even the British Establishment has now acknowledged what many already appreciated & understood for many years.

Although singer/guitarist/songwriter Aalon Butler is far from a major name in either soul or rock, serious connoisseurs of soul music remember him for four recordings released on the independent PKC label out of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Butler was the lead singer of the New Breed Band with which he released two outstanding 45rpm singles. Their first release (It's Got To Be Something b/w Please Give Me A Chance) is a favorite in Northern Soul circles while their second release (Gettin Soul Pt.1 b/w Pt.2) has become a Deep-Funk anthem over the years. In 1969 the New Breed Band changed their name to A Different Bag and moved to Los Angeles, California, after a short stint in Memphis, Tennessee. The Gene Dudley Group represents an outpouring of deep soul and funk music from obscenely talented 27 year-old multi-instrumentalist residing in North London, Gene Dudley.
Both tracks on the debut release from this one-man band were recorded in Gene's bedroom studio and feature him on trumpet, saxophone, drums, bass, guitar and piano.

Am offensichtlichsten auf der Hand liegt jedoch die enge Verbindung mit dem Sound von Gnarls Barkley, der sich nun auch endlich erklären lässt: Trey Reames, der für Gnarls Barkley, die Zusammenarbeit von Cee Lo Green und Dangermouse, verantwortlich ist, entdeckte Cole Williams und bot sofort an, ihn zu managen. Ihm hat der junge Niederländer auch die fetten Features auf seinem Debütalbum, welches Anfang Mai auf Domino erscheint, zu verdanken: Damon Albarn, MF DOOM und Flying Lotus-Bassist Thundercat standen sofort auf The Child Of Lov und nahmen die Angebote zur Zusammenarbeit begeistert an.

Joe 'Jody' Parsley, born and raised in Springfield, Ohio, is a little known name in the world of soul and funk 45s. He recorded his sole 45rpm single Soul streak b/w Hooked at the famous Mus-I-Col studios in Columbus, Ohio in 1974. He called the band Jody & the Individuals, simply because the musicians on the session were not a real band but friends of him. Parsley was always writing songs and playing music together with friends down in his basement. Actually, many of Springfield's top musicians met at his place to jam and to have a good time. Shortly after the Mus-I-Col session, Parsley recorded another handful of songs which he never released. This is me and I don't know are two of them. Some people might be surprised to see them released on Tramp. For us it is certainly no surprise, we simply love good music and that's the reason why we put out these beautiful songs.
