In the late 60s/early 70s many american soldiers were stationed all over germany. Among those where musicians who played in several army bands like the "East of Underground" which had won the special services entertainment showband contest held in Frankfurt in 1971. Nobody knows which other bands participated in this contest, maybe also The Soul Explosion.The band recorded a fantabulous double-sider, one deep-funk side with a soulful ballad on the flip which makes both hardcore funk and soul collectors happy. This is a strictly limited pressing with original label artwork. 200 copies pressed.

African Road Trip is proud to present our first offering 'Sookie' produced by the mysterious Jo Bisso. Originally pressed in small numbers on the cult Parisian label Disque Esperance, this beautiful slice of funk is seriously hard to lay your hands on and commands a high price when sold.

So who is Jo Bisso Not much is known, but a short yet prolific period in the 70's saw him turn out some mind blowing funk and disco music all with the French touch. Originally hailing from Cameroon Jo relocated to Paris which was a thriving hotbed for black music at the time. He worked with many key musicians and even wrote with Arthur Baker. Sookie finds Jo experimenting with the funk, so there is plenty of rhythm and some scorching horns. The vocals are provided by the legendary Jeannie Otis much famed for her work with Heiki Sarmanto.

tag, Louis Jordan 'king of the jukebox', was one of the most successful black American musicians of all time.
He was mostly associated with the Swing era, something that is still evident on this 1962 Tangerine recording

Alexia Coley's Drive Me Wild is her third single for Jalapeno Records. Having already picked up fans from the jazz, funk and soul world with her original productions and impeccable delivery, West London's rising star is spreading her net a little wider with this release having had it remixed by some of her favourite artists and label mates.

Lack Of Afro draws out the song into a seemingly endless accapella intro before bringing the full force of his production powerhouse to bear.

Three single releases (7" vinyl) from her debut album, Keep The Faith, have brought her music to the attention of BBC6 Music, BBC Radio 2 and BBC London, where she has gained numerous plays and performed live on air.

Alexia has been perfecting her live show with regular performances in London showcasing material from the album, at venues such as Ronnie Scott's, Hoxton Bar & Grill, Blues Kitchen, The Paradise and Mau Mau.

Her band also featured on the festival circuit, with performances at the likes of Secret Garden Party, Mostly Jazz and Port Eliot festival.

ah Wah 45s are proud to present the brand new single from one-man horn driven funk music machine, The Gene Dudley Group.

Following on from last year's debut long-player, and a run of gigs and festivals with his band, including touring Europe as Stones Throw artists Myron & E's new backing band, Gene Dudley returns with a taste of things to come and his first ever vocal offering on 7-inches of wax. Those vocals come courtesy of London singer and erstwhile DJ, the wonderfully monikered Anne Frankenstein, whose contribution to Gene's canny cover of Richard "Groove" Holmes' classic No Trouble On The Mountain is something of a floor filler and a rather fitting release in Wah Wah 45s' fifteenth year, as Holmes' original was one of the label's first ever 7-inch releases!


On the flip comes the first real flavour of Gene's forthcoming sophomore LP, due to drop (on vinyl too!) this November. Stevie Flare is a much more up-tempo and foot friendly affair than previously outings, and has something of a tropical feel courtesy of warm highlife style guitars as well as those trademark Gene Dudley horns.

Look out for the Gene Dudley Group live band playing at a venue near you this autumn, including a special session at London's Jazz Cafe on October 24thfor none other than BBC 6Music's funk & soul ambassador, Craig Charles.

Music For Adverts has been one of the best received Lack Of Afro albums of Adam Gibbons entire career. And it soon became clear that the LOA fanbase, DJ's and record collectors were not going to rest until the killing, kick off track from the album Freedom (feat Jack Tyson - Charles) was released as 45 vinyl single.

And here it is - the horn heavy, driving funk track pressed onto delicious wax - and just to make this 45 a super wonderful thing - the B side 'Clean Living Under Difficult Circumstances' is a totally brand new track and 100% exclusive to this natty little single.

Taking a step into that soul drenched, smoky 60's basement club vibe - this instrumental features the fantastic keyboard skills of long time Lack Of Afro collaborator George Cooper - who shows that he really knows his way the piano, Hammond organ and Fender Rhodes. This 45 is a double whammy of deep dish funk and jazzy instrumental soul!

Since they first formed in 1989, the French "Slow Slushy Boys" have released not less than 8 albums and a big bunch of singles, and have always kept the same sacred goal: delivering the grooviest hip-shaking R'N'B, Soul and Funk, while performing mostly original material and staying way out of the gimmicks and cliches.

With the benefits of the band's fabulous new horn section, this EP features a heavy Funk instrumental lead by organ and brass, "Chingford Train", in the vein of Texas or New Orleans 70's Funk with a slight touch of blaxploitation filmscore. The second track is a sensual Soul-Jazz ode to dance and love, "Groove On Up", with beautiful whispered backing vocals and a powerful brass riff - perhaps the most exotic/erotic track on the record. On the B side, the Slushy boys are treating us with a version of Lonnie Smith's "Move Your Hand", one of Blue Note's most soulful gems, rendered here in a wild, almost Afrobeat-ized style.

Now and then we here at the Tramp office receive material from new soul bands from all over the world. Quite often it is nothing of interest for us, except for a few. The Tibbs, originating from The Netherlands, are certainly one of those exceptions.

The Tibbs were formed in the early summer of 2012. Started as a cult act, playing obscure instrumentals and long forgotten Memphis and Northern Soul classics, they soon felt the urge to expand the repertoire with their own songs. The result: a surprising, exciting mix of heartfelt originals.

With a lineup of drums, bass guitar, lead guitar and Hammond organ, a three-man horn section and the feisty vocals of frontwoman Elsa Bekman, the Tibbs amount to seductive garage soul with a dash of blues, funk, jazz and surf.

The single will be released on good old 7" vinyl as well as digital download.

Right on the toes of his upcoming album "Lost Soul", Timmion comes through with new single from Willie West, the living testament to New Orleans soul history.

"Down On Lovers Road" is a gloomy slow-burner, which will please the friends of "Devil Gives Me Everything", the underground hit West released with The High Society Bothers few years back.

The funky and superbly soulful "Who's Fooling Who (She's So Wise)", gets a new fresh issue here as instrumental by the High Society Brothers Band. Track was initially put out a couple of years ago as vocal version "She's So Wise".

Willie West is a NOLA soul veteran is behind classic hidden gems, such as "Just Having Fun", "Farchild" and "Willie Knows How". These tracks should appeal to all soul & funk aficionados and especially people, who like their soul toned dark and hard as nails.

Two of Harvey Scales' finest recordings back to back on one 45rpm single re-issue. Trying to Survive is probably his most sought after release in the world of soul 45rpm single collectors. It is not only the rarity but quality though which makes this re-issue a must-have for all soul lovers who do not want to spend $1000+ for an original copy.

Now hitting release number six, Fly By Night Music serves up something slightly different from Riccio (Bosconi // Super Value), complete with a remix from Craig Smith (6th Borough Project), for its latest offering. This is an equally classy release but more of an obvious disco tip. Coming in a press of 200 limited blue vinyl and a letter press sleeve, this is another boutique package from FBNM.


The man behind the Jungle Way EP is Italian Riccardo Zanaroli aka Riccio, who most recently appeared on the widely lauded Bosconi compilation Bosconi Stallions. A DJ, collector, producer and record seller, Riccio is a staple on the Italian scene and brings plenty of louche disco funk to this release.

When Etta James passed away in early 2012, the tributes and plaudits flooded in the world over Gone forever was the soul diva and legend, the peerless and seemingly indomitable, screaming, bawling R&B siren who had seen off several near death experiences with dangerous substances and even more dangerous men. As the music world mourned, the question still remained - did Etta really receive her dues during her life That recent interest in her career probably peeked when portrayed onscreen by a certain Beyonce Knowles in the Chess biopic 'Cadillac Records' would suggest the answer is no. This short and sweet set of six songs spread across three 45rpm records captures various key snapshots and key moments in Etta's early career. We hear the precocious, sassy teenaged delinquent on 'That's All', the snarling rock and roll mama on 'Tough Lover' and we revisit her 'coming of age' moment, the song that came to spark her adult career into a new direction and lifespan and became her signature: 'At Last'.

Andre-Marie Tala is one of the father figures of African music. Born in the western Provence of Bandjoun, Cameroon, his early years were plagued with tragedy. He lost his mother at 4, his father at 12 and then when on to lose his sight 15. Thankfully, the love of music stayed with him throughout his career and with the help of Manu Dibango he made his first recordings in 1972 and had two hits in Cameroon with Sikati and Potaksima.

He created a group, the Rock Boys, later the Black Tigers, with Sam Fan Thomas as guitarist. At this time, Africa was immersed in music from overseas and many American acts toured all over Africa. Whilst touring Cameroon, Tala handed James Brown a demo of his song "Hot Koki". Seemingly, the Godfather liked it a lot, he actually re-recorded it and released it as his own song, entitled 'Hustle'. In doing so, he took all credit for composing, which meant Tala had to sue Brown and luckily he won the case!

We had so many great LP's to choose from Tala but we decided to start with 'Arabica' where we find Tala in experimental mode. We hit the ground running with the lead track 'Arabica', disco drums, phased guitar licks and sweet soulful backing vocals, what's not to like

'Black Gold' takes the same path as laid out on 'Arabica' but we see the introduction of the Moog Synthesizer and the funky Rhodes Piano. 'Sugar Lump' is once again up-tempo and has bassline to get your body moving in the right direction. 'I know what you want' has a more traditional song approach Tala simply asks his love interest 'not to let him down'.

'Soweto' is a Balearic DJ classic! Beautiful layers of guitar and flute ease you through this one. Soweto was a troubled place and high on the thoughts on African people around this time, this song reflects that. We end with '20 ans' a more tradition song with some Hammond organ and super sweet guitar playing from Tala once again. This record demands a high fee for obvious reasons so don't miss your chance to own this official reissue which has been made with love. Only 500 copies for worldwide release.

Second release from P.V., following his debut album Indra. Palace is a concept record with 'the palace' symbolizing a corridor of music - a wall of sound. Each track in the Palace is a different room, all fitting together, filling the halls and painting this estate with sound.

Umso mehr merkt man "Junto" die Lust an, sich wieder dem Kern des eigenen Werkes mit neuem Schwung zuzuwenden. Mit dem Anspruch Pop und Avantgarde aufeinander loszulassen und dabei clevere Dancefloor-Beats beizumischen, berauscht das Album gerade zu. "Mermaids Of Salinas" ist brasilianisch angehaucht, "Something about you" besticht durch die zauberhafte Melodie.

Following the considerable success of the 3CD Jamaica Selects Jump Blues Strictly For You and ahead of a new set mining the same rich seam (scheduled for March 2014), Fantastic Voyage is pleased to announce the release of a vinyl edition. Limited to 500 copies, the 2LP vinyl edition of Jamaica Selects Jump Blues Strictly For You selects 28 highlights from the original 85-track selection. This is the music that provided the inspiration for ska and all that followed, and is sure to appeal to both Jamaican music fans and followers of hard-hitting Fifties R&B alike.

After the highly-successful Jumping The Shuffle Blues, Fantastic Voyage takes another dip into the bubbling cauldron of R&B which sowed the seeds for ska on Jamaica's sound systems in the 1940s and 50s, lashing together further sizzling biscuits from that formative, feet-finding era. It's well established that the US R&B which started bombarding the island through radio after World War II was picked up by sound systems such as Clement 'Coxsone' Dodd and Prince Buster, germinating into ska after mating with the Caribbean's own calypso and other local musical strains. The records being produced in America's Southern states and cities like New Orleans were loosely termed 'shuffle blues'; contagious, jumping and bulging with animated incitements to party, dance or get down and dirty, many boasting some of the most caterwaulingly volcanic saxophone solos known to man.

So Unreal is the stunning debut album from Dutch singer-songwriter iET. After 2 eps released on Soundcloud (Homeschool and K+), many collaborations (with SBTRKT, A$AP FERG, Chet Faker, Childish Gambino...), several features in fashion magazines (Vogue, Elle, Glamour, Nylon...) and modelling for Levi's and H&M, she has been named an 'artist to watch' by influential music publications (Rolling Stone, New York Times, MTV...) and a 'style star' of the year 2014 by the fashion industry.

After showcasing two tracks on recent Kitsuné compilations ("Goldmine" and "Turquoise" on Kitsuné Maison 15 and Kitsuné New Faces), Kish is collaborating again with the French label to release 'Across', a conceptual project chronicling her drive across America in August of 2013. Conceived as a real audio road trip, the EP presents 8 inseparable tracks themed in self-exploration, progress, and the vulnerability of growing up interpreted.

And because both Kitsuné and Kilo Kish have one feet in music and the other in fashion, a capsule collection designed by the artist in collaboration with the French brand and also themed in traveling will be available in the Fall. Incidentally, she's also the ambassador of Maison Kitsuné's new Fall Winter 2014 collection!

Finally, Kish will be paying at a selection of Kitsuné shows around the world and plans to tour and host another installation for her photographs and art associated with this project.

After a highly impressive debut on the scene late last year with the Do You EP, Reginald Omas Mamode IV returns with a deeper, bolder statement of intent with the As We Move EP.

2013 saw Reggie's 'earthbound heart and soul music' gain widespread support from Lauren Laverne and Lefto, for whom he did a one-take live session. Unsurprisingly, he found his biggest fan in Gilles Peterson, who featured Mamode's cover of the lost Roy Ayers classic 'Keep On Walking' in his shortlist for tracks of the year, put 'Do You' on his Brownswood Bubblers compilation, and invited him to play live at his St Barnabas new music showcase.

This EP takes the tough, organic soul of Do You and twists it into highlights such as the raw 4/4 of Fire Burning, the EP's lead track. Know You Better unfolds amidst West Coast synths and jazz percussion, whereas Understand Me, already receiving heavy support from Gilles & Lefto, is a slow burning London soul jam about relationship communication breakdown.

If we called Superstructure a sonic mad scientist it would be correct, but would ignore the actual, real-life mad scientist aspects of this electron microscope-owning uber-producer, otherwise known as Todd Osborn. Todd fixes and flies planes, has fabricated a video game kiosk out of hospital equipment and recently finished building a hovercraft. Recording for Rephlex as Soundmurderer, he concocted some of the most mind-bendingly tough Jungle tunes of the era. His homebase on the outskirts of Detroit means his House and Techno bonafides are also in order (check his stuff on Ghostly International for proof). But getting too caught up in the mystery of the man is to overlook the two immaculate electronic boogie gems on his new 7-inch for Names You Can Trust. Sounding like the cosmic dub of a lost D-Train hit, "Out At The Deep End" has already been featured by Benji B on BBC Radio and sparked a collector's frenzy on limited pre-release. The futuristic '80s classic vibe continues on the B-side with "Into The Rest," a beautifully multilayered slow burner.
