Fabulous 2-sider which offers something for both lowrider-soul as well as deepfunk aficionados. "Don't Wake Me Up" is deep soul at its best while the flip "The Jack Mod Kick" is a monstrous deepfunk killer. That is why we put the latter one onto our third volume in the Feeling Nice series (TRLP/CD-9048) some years back.

History of Heat is an eroto-intellectual retelling of a love story. It is the scholarship of heat, and the sources of its production in the body: desire, exaltation, anticipation, fear, rage and mourning . It is a fable circulating through the nerves, pumped and distributed by its own mythologies. Through different chapters, we follow the heroine of our story from the initial desire to love, the sensual pull which oscillates between the grotesque and sacred longing of the flesh (‘L’Enfer en pleine lumière’ translates to ‘Hell in plain sight’)...to the sudden ghostlike appearance of the Other (Apparition) as a projection of the dream. We enter into the spiritual, the seeing visions and the blindness of love. ‘Animal’ speaks of instinct, the smell of the beloved, already the deconstruction of the divine back into the realm of the physical. The title track ‘History of heat’ sings the hesitation of love, the precipice of openness and the invitation of the contract: Dance with me... (This is where the metaphoric marriage is forged). In ‘Perfection’, the pressure which keeps the relationship on the pedestal of the absolute stunts and paralyses love. Unrealistic expectations of the self and the other person creates the push and pull of the not wanting what one wants and the fear to get what one has been asking for. ‘Tiny engine’ speaks of mechanical attachment, attachment to the lover as habit, as a second nature, and the call to the other person as a magnet. In ‘Ditectrice’, the madness and the folly of separation spawns war and confusion. It is the violent refusal to live without the other... the pleading with god. ‘Feed him’ follows with resignation and exhaustion. Love has become the beast of burden who eats away at itself insatiably. ‘War text’ brings forth the devastation, the peace treaty and finally the metaphysical Divorce. In ‘Guttermoon’, the vita contemplativa begins, the blood starts to cool, the scene is a ghost town. ‘Wrong god’ similarly winds down as an ode to remorse and mourning. Finally, ‘Cinema Verité’ closes out the album with a mistrust of ‘reality’: the heroine becomes a philosopher, she becomes an artist... did the relationship ever exist or was it a projection “In front of a movie screen” ?

History of Heat is an experimental narrative and cinematic pastiche of all original and self recorded material. A chaotic mix of sounds both analog and digitally produced recalls a warlike interpersonal breakdown. The mood established by the lyrical content of the piece is meant to be demanding, enclosing the listener within a unique and compelling cocoon of otherworldly sound. the Album is framed within a discursive love story which reflects larger relational problematics and interpersonal traumas. looped vocals act as incantations woven in and out of lyrical singing and spoken word. The instrumentals embrace chaos and intensity. Improvised violin and broken down beats compliment and balance the melancholic overtones which flutter above off the grid rhythms in this charged ficto-personal account.

Echoes is the second album by the Ukrainian producer Cape Cod, released jointly by labels Vinyla Records & Kiev House.

Echoes is a comprehensive and multi-genre work in terms of sound and song creativity. On second album, dance music floats between genres, styles and mood from track to track, while Cape Cod skillfully waves the breakbeat, r'n'b of the new school, soul and hip hop into the tracks and brings his love to the disco house to the sound level.

Kokoro Disco-San are an experienced trio of musicians and producers from Barcelona who have clearly been studying the moods and variations of the nu-disco breeze. Coming at you like a warm scirocco from tropical climes, Isla Fantasia has all the hallmarks of a Joey Negro/MAW production waiting to happen. Peppy 4-to-the-floor beats per minutes that rise and fall in all the right places, catchy synth riffs, echoey Brazil-inspired Backing vocals that just make you want to levitate somewhere between Rio de Janeiro and Ibiza.

The B side, Sonic Feeling, is equally thrilling with its driving bassline somewhere between Brothers Johnson, Azymuth and the Players Association, plus tons of those disco whizz, fizz, bangs that frankly just make you want to smile a lot after a few drinks.

Ten years ago the euro soul duo Cool Million released their first album 'Going Out Tonight' on UK soul label Expansion Records. The album took the soul crowd by surprise, cause who were these guys that out of the blue, could recreated the soulful sound of the 80's hey day like no other?

The answer to that question is; Rob Hardt and Frank Ryle. One a super musician from Germany with skills you can only dream of. The other a Dj/musicfreak from Denmark with a masterplan – both of them with tons of dedication and passion for thier craft.

Thier passion and ambition have kept them in the came for a decade and they have worked with a long list of artists, some known some not, some forgotten some on their way up! So what can Cool Million tell us abouth their new album? 'It's a classic Cool Million album where we work/collaborate with various artists, staying true to our original concept both in terms of genre and how we think a album works best. Having say that we think that our fans will be a little surprised with the fact that this is our slowest album to date. We believe we have more variety than ever and it's a fact that the music on the new album is slowed down in terms of more ballads and mid-tempo songs compared to our other albums'.

'The reason for this development is that we wanted to try something that was a little out of our comfort zone. Also we felt that we wanted to prove that we can do quality slow jams aswell. You could also argue that is's beause we both turned fifty this year.. haha'.

The soul hit "Do Your Thang" on the A-side was released by a vocal duo from Florida in the mid seventies. The edit extends the original to the right length and new ryhtmus and percussion tracks give the song the missing power.

"Grab Your Thang" on the flipside, is a 1965 killer funk tune from Memphis, which will make every dance floor burn with mad breakbeat, new arrangement and additional samples.

Aussteiger is a Berlin based German DJ / Producer. He runs the Dub Disco label in Berlin and DJ's around the world. Zusammenkunft is his debut album released on Copenhagen's Music For Dreams. Once upon a time a golden boy came back from the shadows. Rumors were told that he once left the big city in a time where the music scene and clubs were dominated by cold music and average beats. He left behind civilisation, living withdrawn in the woody mountains of a covert place. From there on people talked about him as Aussteiger. Connected to the nature and deeply rooted in the harmonic essence, Aussteiger became a part of the great whole. In a full moon illuminated clear night while experimenting with various unique herbs he accidentally found a recipe to create warm and ravishing music. He firmly believes that music is his infinite source to gather strength and positive energy After years of strengthening himself and shaping vibrant sounds Aussteiger decided to share his delightful music with the world. He returned from his retreat in order to enchant the music lovers all over the world with his feel good approach and supernatural sounds. Coming back to the city, he also co-founded the awesome Dub Disco Label with his buddy Serj Nosé.

Building on the already incredible collection of music so far released on Francis Harris' Kingdoms imprint, Emil Abramyan returns with the stunning 'Movement' album. Abramyan is a Brooklyn based composer, musician, and producer, whose work traverses various styles and disciplines. In this release Emil shares his unique perspective by bringing together his conservatory training as a cellist and his love of electronic music and sound design. Having played the cello on every Francis Harris album, Abramyan now expands his repertoire by playing every instrument, including cello, piano, and electronics. Beginning with 'Flightplan', the album lifts off in sublime fashion. Brooding cellos combine with pianos before subtle rhythms unfold and introduce themselves. 'Winter's' skittering rhythm is combined with pizzicato melodies, clicks and modular synth flurries. Showcasing his versatility, 'Foolky' is a more dance floor oriented cut - a highly percussive groove unfolds and carries along a variety of instrumentation. 4_24 also makes use of shuffling, percussive grooves layered with drone sounds, and more of Abramyan's signature cello.'Fever' sees the brooklynite heading in a more obviously ambient direction, building atmosphere with a mixture of close mic'd experimentation, and beautiful choral fragments.Rounding off this release, label boss Francis Harris reworks 'Flightplan', finding new nuances in the sublime atmosphere, and slowly building up to a subtle, understated groove that takes the track to a different place entirely.

has been discovering in music since she can remember.

When the Tramp Records crew read the internet-sweeping spam/story of Nigerian Astronaut and Air Force pilot Abacha Tunde, they knew that they had to spring into action to help this unfortunate fella out. Dr. Bakare Tunde, the cousin of Abacha Tunde explained the situation as follows: "My cousin was the first African in space when he made a secret flight to the Skylab Space Station in 1979, shortly before it crashed to Earth. 19 years later he was on his second spaceflight, this time to a secret Moon Base located on the far side of the Moon. In 1999 his crew members returned to earth, but his place was taken up by return cargo. There have been occasional supply flights to keep him going since that time. Although he is in good humor, he wants to come home, now, after 20 years in space."

After this hilarious story the idea of a compilation album was born - and "Trip To The Moon" is the result. The goal to raise three million dollars to cover the cost of Abacha Tunde's return flight may never be achieved. Nevertheless, a 41 year experience in the music business is the basis for a fantabulous track listing of 11 amazing and highly underrated Rare Grooves about the Moon!

The Swinging Astronauts open the set, followed by La La Wilson's equally great rhythm & blues rocker "The Moon Man Is Back". With The Moon-Dawgs, this album makes a slight turn into the 1960s garage rock era while Hase Cäsar (backed by none other than the famous Ingfried Hoffmann and his orchestra!) contributes one of two songs of german origin. Now it's time for some funk: Rev. Jamel & Bob Johnson's "Walking On The Moon (Men Are Starving)" criticizes the US government for spending millions of dollars for their space program instead of supporting their own people. "Mars in 75" is deepfunk at its best although some may lament the lack of production. Sidney Ownen's breakbeat-laden "Sputnik" is sought after in collector's circles and needs no justification as to why it is included on this album. Ernest & D.L. Rocco's "Moon Child" is our personal favourite, closely followed by the hypnotic groove of "Mondgesicht" by legendary german saxophonist Ambros Seelos. Scott Cunningham's name should ring a bell as he was featured on several Tramp compilations over the past few years. Finally, the album closes with a psychedelic folk track titled "Voyage To The Moon".

Tramp Records is absolutely convinced that this album will surely be the best way to shorten the wait for Abacha until a rescue space mission finally brings our African soul brother back home.

Hot Border Special certainly aren't afraid to take risks, with heavy tracks like opener 'Woo!' a funk/rock/latin killer and Cop Drama funk of 'Who is Tony Soap?' - showcasing just how filthy a groove can get - contrasting effortlessly with the mellow beauty of 'Good Egg Bad Egg' or the funky Sly inspired 'The Martha Strut'. Izo FitzRoy has gone from strength to strength. Her gospel and soul drenched compositions coupled with a powerhouse vocal delivery and an ear for a melody made her an instant favourite with fans, critics and contemporaries alike.

After a tireless touring schedule and some killer feature collaborations she's back with some new original material and she's enlisted the help of the one and only disco don – Dimitri From Paris...

Dimitri of course needs no introduction to the Disco and House heads and the king of Glitterbox comes correct off the back of recent projects remixing the Chic catalogue and running his own 'Le-Edits' label. He teams up once again with his dream house band - fellow high-flying Parisian jazz/funk crew Cotonete who provide the 'magic' backdrop for Izo's stellar vocal performance.

The track sees Izo wishing for a change in her relationship, longing for yesterday and the feelings of excitement and wonder that a child gets to experience so frequently. Between her towering vocal performances, Cotonete's classy groove work and Dimitri's deft studio touches it's the perfect disco storm.

ABOUT//BLANK is a collage of collages, an EP pasted together from tracks that are built of parts of various tracks, recordings, sketches, hooks, grooves and loops that Persian Empire has been working on in the past few years. It's a warm piece of fragmented soul music and a project that's far more vocal than any of Sam Khatam's previous productions.

The vocals, though, float in a cloud of haze. Recorded lo-fi, on the fly, impro style. They're intentionally imprecise, leaving blank spots and holes for listeners to fill in. Thus the play of these ambiguous lyrical fragments becomes not just open to but in fact invokes obligatory interpretation. It's the listener who with active interventions solves the mumbles and connects the gaps.

The EP draws from classic funk samples and hiphop production techniques and nods to the end of 90s cut 'n' paste of vanguard styles Mo' Wax, Warp and Chocolate Industries championed so well. With all this retro, throwback swing Persian Empire delivers soft soul that doesn't fit anywhere but in the present.


Persian Empire has been immensely influenced by UK dance styles, from 2step to bass yet his music usually can't happen without the usual intruders - from jazz to experimental electronics and hiphop. With special attention to rhythmical details Sam's put out music for labels likeCosmonostro and Record Record and since 2015 he runs his own Prrrrrrr Records, with a focus on young promising blood.

His live acts are not to be missed.

The album it's been declared by Rolling Stone Magazine France "soul album of the year" and got raving reviews by magazine such as Blues & Soul (Album of the Month), Record Collector, Shindig, Rock & Folk and constant support by Craig Charles on his BBC Radio 6 Show and FIP/Radio France.

"The Sound Of New York" in many of it's forms and shapes, has always been a source of fascination for the London based production duo Juan Laya & Jorge Montiel (Aka Los Charly's Orchestra), who clearly portray its essence in such an authentic fashion through every release they make; all filtered through
their very distinctive colorful / feel good style of productions, which have become a trademark of the LCO sound over the years.

On the other hand, the so called: "Acid Jazz / Jazz Funk" movement from London-UK had always been a defining key factor on the LCO philosophy, who until today remain so true to the nature of their fusion.

Psychedelic deep soul of the highest order, Symphonic Four was a St Louis based band (as was the original label Zudan). Word is the record was recorded in Detroit, and the backing band was made up of some members of Parliament/Funkadelic which would make a lot of sense. A long time spin for Deep Soul head but deserving of a wider audience and that why we could not resist to pull this one from the now again Catalogue, 500 copies only.

Little known funky-soul two sider by Los Keys. It was first presented to the world when it was included on the sixth volume in our Movements series. We finally decided to put it out on a limited 45RPM single, still our prefered format!

Following on from their debut band releases in 2018, Daytoner follow up with a single for this year's festival season, a double A-Side featuring 2 tracks that have proved popular in their live sets at over 30 UK festivals to date, both of which have already received radio support on The Craig Charles Funk & Soul Show on BBC6 Music and BBC Radio Cornwall.

Original library synth funk sci-fi soundtracks. This promo EP from the vaults of Warner Chappell's production music archive offers four more tracks from Eleven76's mystique Space Voyage recordings. Originally intended for film synchronisation usage as part of Warner's music library, their unique mélange of analog synthesizers, breakheavy drumming, trippy fx and euphoric-melancholic instrumental fantasies has gained them a cult following among witty beatmakers, DJs, cratediggers, tape recording freaks and space age afficionados.

Produced by Paul Elliott, director of The Library Music Film, this promotional vinyl 45 was made to support the library album SPACE VOYAGE and to make the music available outside of film usage. Limited quantities available as most of the pressing is used as giveaway for clients in film, TV and advertising.

Fable is a small independent record label started in Austin, Texas in the early 1970s by a young trombone player named Michael Mordecai. In autumn 1975 he debuted a trio of albums on Fable by Austin bands 47 Times its Own Weight, Steam Heat and Starcrost. With only 1000 of each pressed, and each carrying a different emphasis on soul, funk or jazz, all 3 have gone on to become highly sought after by collectors and DJs around the world.

We meet with Michael at our UK offices and over several hours he tells us the highs and lows of running Fable Records, leaving no stone unturned and with success and tragedy in equal measure. We also speak with members of all 3 bands, and they share with us interesting stories and cool anecdotes of the wild times in the mid '70s when their records were made. Portuguese soul sister Marta Ren is back. The Porto based soulstress returns with the new single "Worth It" available from June 07th on digital and limited edition 45 vinyl. "Worth it" anticipates the awaited second studio album which is scheduled to be released on Record Kicks at the beginning of 2020. Marta Ren exploded onto the international soul scene with her debut album "Stop Look Listen" in 2016 but she has been around in the Portuguese scene since the mid 90s with The Bombazines. After the release of her acclaimed debut album "Stop Look Listen" Marta has extensively played all over Europe, included on big stages such as Trans Musicales festival in Rennes, Sziget Festival, Eurosonic and Mostly Jazz Funk.

"Worth it" has been mixed and produced in London by hitmaking producer and engineer Emre Ramazanoglu who in his 20 years career has garnered an impressive résumé working closely amongst the others with Mark Ronson, Lily Allen, Kylie Minogue and Noel Gallagher on his latest album "Who Built The Moon?". The result of the collaboration between Emre and Marta is an impressive 60s soul stormer with a rock feel. Marta's powerful voice betrays once more all her passion for the deepest funk and rawest soul of the sixties and early seventies and the result is something that would make the founding JB's soul sisters proud once again. Little is known about the ensemble that is Sun Atlas. It's not certain whether you'd find them in Los Angeles, New York, Addis Ababa, Marrakesh or northern Germany. Maybe non, maybe all of the above. Their only proof of existance is banned on this 45. Their razor-sharp mixture of afrobeat, ethiojazz, surf, cinematic soul, crime jazz & funk/hiphop breaks speaks for itself. Only on vinyl.

Hot Wax is an assured KPM masterclass from a dream team line-up of Brian Bennett, Alan Hawkshaw and John Fiddy. Here we're treated to what happens when all three decide to explore the latest trends in production music'. The latest as of 1976, of course.John Fiddy's numbers are sumptuous, string-led and light. Floaty soft-psych underpinned by a solid groove, particularly on Taste For Living' and "Fresh Start". If you're into Koushik and those early Manitoba/Caribou records - and you should be - you'll appreciate these.
For us, the Bennett and Bennett/Hawkshaw stuf is on another level. Capitol City' oscillates between driving funk and downbeat sentiment. Name Of The Game' is tough, smokin' funk, famously sampled in 2007 by Madlib for Percee P's Who With Me'. Bop On The Rocks' knocks hard and Full Throttle' features a guitar solo with some of the nastiest, about-to-explode fuzz you're ever likely to hear.
As with all ten re-issues, the audio for Hot Wax comes from the original analogue tapes and has been remastered for vinyl by Be With regular Simon Francis. We've taken the same care with the sleeves, handing the reproduction duties over to Richard Robinson, the current custodian of KPM's brand identity.

Also, I talk about the real love, the one that has never gone, the one which gives you the power and strength every day of your life, the one which is always present, even when you do not see it anymore but then you realise that it is there in front of you for the rest of your life! Biography:

Gemma & the Travellers gives a nod to the early deep Soul, R&B, Northern Soul and Funk of the 60's but the unique songwriting gives a refreshing twist. Gemma has a powerful and immediately recognisable voice with personality. Although she is inspired by the likes of Dusty Springfield, Julie Driscoll, Etta James & Aretha Franklin, she has a voice like no other. The debut album "Too Many Rules & Games" was released on 28th April 2017. The second album "True Love" is due out in May 2019. Gemma & the Travellers' soulful tunes get regularly aired, particularly on Radio France FIP "Into the Groove" and on BBC radio's "Craig Charles Funk & Soul Show". The outfit has toured throughout Europe and are no stranger to large stages with the majority of the dates in Germany, France and the UK. A memorable concert was opening for Lee Fields & the Expressions. Mickey and the Soul Generation (DJ Shadow sampled a lot of their work) quoted "First time hearing the group and I gotta say you guys really captured that funk/soul beat. (for a lack of a better word) Funk On!.

"These are wo songs from the very polarities of musical genres and style, but still sharing a similar universal message and sentiment. 'Do Anything You Wanna Do' made me want to 'break out of the city" many years ago and be in a band (which is exactly what I did!). 'Don't Want To Talk' made me question as a young man what is really important in life (which I still do). But it was only very recently that I felt any sort of fool hearted confidence to even possibly attempt my own very different musical spin on both- So it is with great relief that Eddie & The Hot Rods have just given their official thumbs up for our version of their timeless classic 'Do Anything You Wanna Do'. John Martyn sadly is no longer with us, so I can only but hope that somewhere out there beyond the 'Solid Air' he is digging our heartfelt, humble tribute to his fantastic song."

HUGH BROOKER (NIGHT TRAINS)

Night Trains were formed in 1987 by bassist, producer and DJ Hugh Brooker and along with Galliano became part of the first wave of acts to sign to Acid Jazz Records. Giles Peterson and Baz Fe Jazz released Night Trains' critically acclaimed debut album "Checkmate" on their B.G.P [Beat Goes Public] label in 1990. Returning to Acid Jazz Records in the early 90s, the band released two new albums "Loaded" and "Sleazeball" along with several singles and EPs. Night Trains played live extensively across Europe and Japan to promote these records supporting and touring with artists as diverse as Fatboy Slim, Jamiroquai, Gil Scott Heron and Afrika Bambaataa. Brooker currently DJs globally and has been co-writing with and remixing and producing for artists as diverse as Sophie Ellis-Bextor and Earth Wind and Fire. Summer 2012 saw the return of Night Trains to Acid Jazz Records with the 7inch vinyl release of "No More Heroes", a stomping northern soul reinterpretation of The Stranglers' 70s New Wave classic. A teaming with Tim Walkers Back Burna records in 2015 resulted in the uplifting soulful 7inch "Black Whip" and summer 2017 sees the band turning full circle and reuniting, for the first time in 27 years, with sublime vocalist Jennie Bellestar Matthias (Belle Stars) on "Do Anything You Wanna Do", co-produced by James Johnstone [Pigbag) and the magnificent Najwa on the Night Trains version of the John Martyn classic "Don't Want To Know".

Project Gemini is the brainchild of West London-based musician, producer and music journalist Paul Osborne. It makes its debut on Delights with a spooky library-influenced psych-funk double-sider, recorded by Osborne at his home studio, Gardens End, with contributions from the prolific Haifa-based producer Shuzin on drums, and the label's main man Markey Funk on lead keys and production duties. With its otherworldly electronics, fuzz guitars, sinister cinematic groove and sharp funky drums, the new 7inch is ticking all the boxes that define the Delights label's distinctive aesthetic.

Rcommended for fans of The Natural Yogurt Band/The Sign of Four, Mr Chop, Drumetrics, and the early 70's French and Italian library.

You never heard these tracks sound like this before. But then maybe that's because these versions were never released before: an R&B stomper done as an anthem in the vein of Aretha's Think, an uptempo R&B heater transformed into a looser slice of southern funky soul and a rock n roll classic re-imagined as a New Orleans-style funky nugget.

Perhaps back in the day at Stax, Capitol or Federal, some producer hip to what James Brown and Dyke Arlester were doing, managed to coax artists back into the studio after hours for one more take. The drums became a bit heavier and more syncopated, the bass a bit chunkier, a section was lengthened here or there and maybe a faster (or slower) tempo tried out. But perhaps when the money men heard the results, they were too behind the curve to bet on the new sound and these funky versions got shelved.

Then again, maybe you're listening to Mako & Mr Bristow's Stank Soul Edits Vol. 4, the latest in a series of 45 edits intended to sound like alternate 'lost' studio takes rather than – well – edits.
