Written in haste shortly after its inauguration, Trokan warns of a day of reckoning for the flabby orangutan. Accompanied by an infallible bassline, spicy guitar solo, and a trap kit laser light show, this verbal assault and its freakbeat je ne sais quoi is the soundtrack henceforth into oblivion. On the flip you'll find "You Don't Get Me Down", a moody, grooving, albeit hopeful companion piece that serves as a palette cleansing juxtaposition to the peppery protest. Don't sleep on this one!

Joel Sarakula's upcoming single "Northern Soul" is a driving turn through retro-soul and Motown stylings that reaps the most out of the title's double meaning.

"Northern Soul" depicts a desperate, night-time search for connection through a grim northern town climaxing with a chorus where Sarakula emphatically (or desperately if that word is too fancy!) pleads the listener with the iconic lyric: '"I wanna touch your northern soul". Every Trick in the Book' is the new single from Bristol-based beat makers, The Allergies. True to form, they've whipped up a sun-kissed groove that'll add a splash of colour to your day, whatever the weather. This A-side takes a vintage vocal sample from the 'Queen of Rock n Roll' herself – none other than Tina Turner! Yeah, you know 'Private Dancer', 'What's Love Got To Do With It', 'We Don't Need Another hero' etc. That Tina Turner! Jeez Louise!
Well the guys have supplemented her pipes with loops from a long-forgotten Latin boogie 12", and layers of live horns, cuts, drums, and FX, to give us a joyous mid-tempo groove that you'll be humming for weeks. While the flipside takes it back to '91, as long-time Allergies collaborator, Andy Cooper, reworks his hero Big Daddy Kane's classic 'Nuff Respect'.
This cover version takes the fast raps of the original, tweaks them, and fires them back over an explosive backdrop of scratches and b-boy beats.

In November 2019, eight artists from Kenya, Uganda and the UK spent a week in Nairobi together exploring new tangents in music with soul.

The group consisted of Faizal Mostrixx (Ug), Hibotep (Ug), K15 (UK), Karun (Ke), Labdi (Ke), Lex Amor (UK), Lynda Dawn (UK) and Maxwell Owen (UK).

As we prepare to drop the long awaited full album next year we are releasing two tracks from the album via a 7" vinyl release that gives a taste of what to expect from the double vinyl LP.

The New Tangents 7" crowns a great year for ESP. following the release of Mara TK's debut album Bad Meditation and Lynda Dawn's Roses 7"

The first track from the 7" features 3 of the core artists from the Nairobi & London writing camps in 2019. K15 provides a beat with a bass line so heavy it needs to be heard on a soundsystem. Lex Amor is setting the world alight at the moment and this verse adds more weight to Lex being one of the most vital and exciting voices coming out of the UK. Karun crowns the track with blissful melodies that blend and flow all over the beat.

The second A side on the 7" was born after the lockdown hit. We decided we wanted the album to represent the time in which it was created and with lockdowns enforced around the world we decided to expand the community of musicians involved in the album project. Solaand Labdi blessed us with a soulful electronic hybrid track that combines both artists' stunning vocals. They are perfectly complemented by Solas forward thinking futuristic production.

Brian Owens is a soul singer, a writer and a dedicated community activist from Illinois, USA.
At Visions HQ they fell in love with his album” Love came down” from 2019, and in particular with the 2 tracks “Sparrow “and “Cool water“ ( unreleased before on vinyl ).
They got in touch with him and after nice chats and lovely exchanges, they decided to licence these two soul gems and give them a new life on a proper 2x 12” with a new mastering and some great remixes from the likes of Kaidi and Dego, Soul Supreme and Sohan Wilson.
These new versions are wonderful and kept the essence of Brian’s music but what is amazing too is to have the original versions on one side for maximum quality and loudness play. This is music, pure new soul with the respect of tradition of the 70’s soul music that we love.

First ever reissue of highly sought after french jazz funk fusion nugget from Alain Bellaïche featuring, Jerry Goodman (Mahavishnu Orchestra), John Hicks (Strata-East) & Fabiano (Fabiano Orchestra).

A Frenchman who is returning (but who we seem to discover!) from the USA is something unusual. Everything seemed to start out well for Alain Bellaïche: Born in Tunis, childhood in Cannes, studies at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris, his first folk concerts folk in youngsters’ houses and clubs where everyone was well behaved …

Then, in 1973, he left for the States. Bellaïche would settled for around ten years, with, as a soundtrack, the two albums that he would record there. Metropolitain, which was the fruit of his collaboration with the Heldon guitarist Alain Renaud, and Sea Fluorescent. In the catalogue of Asylum, David Geffen’s first label, Bellaïche’s music was listed alongside that of the Byrds, Tom Waits, Joni Mitchell, and Bob Dylan.

In a Rock & Folk, interview Bellaïche expressed his regrets as to the prudence of French musicians: “I never had a group… perhaps the guys here are not motivated to play this kind of music”. We should note that the influences of our expatriate were, for example, Led Zeppelin, John McLaughlin, Weather Report, Herbie Hancock, The Spencer Davis Group…

Bellaïche, a multi-faceted and iconoclastic musician, composed Sea Fluorescent just following his desires: from a cosmic ballad (St Andrea), to West Coast funk (California), dreamlike Spanish influences (Spanish Roots), optimistic blues (Foolin’ Myself), a solar track (I’m Angry, Sun Blues) … And the Frenchman was in good company: Jean-François Fabiano (from Fabiano Orchestra) on drums and percussions, Jerry Mahavishnu Goodman on violin on Got My Place In That Country, Wornell Jones on bass or John Hicks whose cascades of notes bring Reggae & Western closer to the ‘reassembled’ jazz that the pianist was playing at the time…

When, finally, after the fabulous declinations of the title track of the album, we hear a bonus on which Bellaïche sings in French, it is time for a Chacha émotionnel on which offers this horrible confession: “I’m not from around here, I come from a backward country”. Thanks to Souffle Continu, France is finally catching up.

1st single, "Process" featuring Ta-ku & Milan Ring was released on November 3rd. Hypnotically bouncy, with heavenly synth pads, crisp percussive elements combined with the ethereal voices of Ta-ku and Milan harmonically push the sonic envelope to make this track an infallible groovy knockout. As Cabu says, "Process" is "the dream-like state in which you take gratitude in your current situation whilst being hopeful in the future." The track provides a perfect taste of these artistic and creative powerhouses. The stunningly beautiful music video – directed by Sydney based Redscope Films and premiered on The Sound You Need – is the perfect accompaniment.

2nd single, "Sun & Moon" featuring Young Franco & NOÉ is set to be released on December 10th along with an announcement of the EP and pre-order. The song is a contagiously bouncy bop, with the different vocal harmonies and synth chords giving the track an almost prime 00's throwback, it's the perfect year-end anthem to keep dancing and growing through the good and bad.

The album's focus track, "About U" featuring Kamaliza will be released along with the EP release on January 28th, 2022. The song perfectly blends electronic elements within an R&B / Soul aesthetic, and is all about moving forward with intention, from the lyrics to the groove, making you feel tipsy on life.

Shaped by the currents of jazz, LaBlue - from his first name Sasha - multi-instrumentalist (drums, piano, bass and guitar) from the conservatory, meets Astrønne in 2019. A singer with a singular voice, she was spotted on the networks thanks to her soul and rnb covers.

A few months later, on the steps of Montmartre, the two young talents began discussing a joint project. Guided by their common love for neo-soul, the 21 year old duo started to produce several albums in 2020 between Rennes and Paris.

They draw their inspiration from the talents that have marked the last decade; Hiatus Kaiyote, D'Angelo, The Internet, Erykah Badu...

Together, they participated in a contest launched by the label Roche Musique during the confinement (March-April 2020) which they won thanks to their track "Keep it Smooth". This new signing will inspire their first 6 track EP "Blue Phases", released in May 2021."

South London Jazz Rap group Summers Sons excite with an updated
and matured sound on their new album Nostalgia.
Brothers Turt (rap) and Slim (production) have created a masterful coming of-age rap album from a 90s baby perspective. Nostalgia is a classic in the making. Over the course of ten songs, Summers Sons reflect on their past, present and future as sons, brothers, husbands, fathers and friends.

Accompanied by longtime friend and musical partner C.Tappin, Alt R&B sensation KeepVibesNear and MC/community activist Eerf Evil. Since signing with Melting Pot Music in 2018, Summers Sons have released two albums plus various EPs, a beat tape and a collabo project with Twit One as Syrup. They are part of The Silhouettes Project (alongside Enny, Kofi Stone, Bel Cobain, Manic MC, Lex Amor and more) and kicked off their own label Lightworks earlier this year. Mid 90's promo re-issue 45 from american r n b singer Yvette Michele…

"Ideology" is the new album by Newcastle/UK soul and funk institution Nick Pride & The Pimptones, featuring the two singles "Don't Turn Me Loose" and "Four Leaf Clover". The Pimptones sound is the coming together of funk and soul, jazz and blues, disco and dance, tightly performed with pop sensibilities and a feel for the classic.

Nick Pride formed The Pimptones back in 2007 to deliver funk, soul and jazz with tight musical arrangements and a great live show. Since then the group has toured Europe, recorded four albums ("Go Deep" and "Rejuiced Phat Shake" on Légére Recordings, "Midnight Feast Of Jazz" on Record Kicks and the self released "It's The Pimptones"). dabbled in various side projects and gained international airplay and recognition. However, following "Go Deep" (2016), it was time for the band to go through a reinvention. The Pimptones now return refreshed and retooled. New singer and full time band member Eliza Lawson plus an all new rhythm section now perfectly compliment the horn section, always a Pimptones trademark.

From the more modern soul pop of "Four Leaf Clover" and "Put It On The Record", the disco of "Keep It In The Family", the organic funk of "Mama Got The Nasty Jams" to the Latin jazz of "UNITY", "Ideology" is not afraid to stretch out musically. But the twelve new tacks push the envelope lyrically as well, as Nick Pride explains: "For this album I wanted to talk about issues which mean something to me in a way which I hadn't tried on previous records. The challenge is to write about equality, acceptance, feminism and social justice whilst producing a record that's fun to listen to."

"Queens Are Stronger Than Kings" dreams of a world run by women rather than our male dominated political systems. "Oh Michelle" laments Michelle Obama's absence from office and dares to wonder how her government might handle today's America. "Woke" speaks of an individual's awakening from antiquated oppressions and seeing an old world with a new perspective: "This world is putting so many issues into clearer focus right now. We all have learning to do, we can all have these light bulb moments!" With awareness comes debate, and with debate there comes conflict. The song "Talking Bout Love" touches on the arguments which can follow. "Especially on social media, I see people so focused on trying to 'win' the debate or trying to sound cleverer than, or superior to, each other. This song takes a step back and asks which side of any given argument you should want to be on by the simplest possible criteria – are you on the side of compassion?"

Meanwhile when it's time for a straight ahead love song, the band delivers Northern Soul stompers "Don't Turn Me Loose" and "One More Tear", bangers which would sit happily on any of The Pimptones' previous albums. "Gotta Shimmy" is the type of irresistible instant funk that this band was born to play! I set myself the challenge of writing lyrics with purpose and message but not losing the joy of what soul music can be. Ultimately, the "Ideology" of this album is full of optimism and hope for a better future".

The LP version is limited to 1000 copies, pressed on blue vinyl, in a high grade spot-varnished gatefold sleeve.

700 Bliss is the forward-thinking duo of DJ Haram and Moor Mother. Their first full length for Hyperdub is an album of noise rap that ties together the raw edges of club music and hip hop with punk energy, jazz, house-party catharsis, percussion-heavy analogue sound design, and cheeky skits, ranging from experimental rap tracks with rolling hi hats and lyrical bravado, to poetry set to noise and sound collage.

Moor Mother and DJ Haram started collaborating in 2014 and eventually formed 700 Bliss, a blistering live act in Philly's DIY scene, releasing their 2018 debut, Spa 700 on Halcyon Veil / Don Giovanni Records. Since that time, both artists have grown global followings. Moor Mother is a prolific solo artist and collaborator, writer, and member of Black Quantum Futurism while Haram has been curating and creating radio shows, DJing, and producing (including an EP for Hyperdub in 2019).

‘Nothing To Declare’ is a smart, danceable revelation, a chiseled soundscape of dive bombing bass, piercing bleeps, crunchy distortion, and wavering synth lines. Welcoming in a variety of voices from their extended, cross-genre scene, 700 Bliss also bring along a cast of collaborators, including vocalists Orion Sun, Lawfandah, Ase Manual, and Ali Logout (from the band Special Interest), plus Palestinian producer Muqata'a, and writer M Téllez who delivers a surreal sci fi monologue over a pounding kick drum on ‘More Victories’.

‘Nothing To Declare’ is a deeply layered rewriting of hip hop and electronic music that gives more with each listen. You won't hear another rap album like it in 2022.

Sam Wills releases his highly anticipated debut album ‘Breather’. Having carved out a reputation for himself as a go-to collaborator with nu-jazz trailblazers such as Jorja Smith, Tom Misch, Lucky Daye and Joren Rakei, ‘Breathe’ is the sound of a hugely taleneted musician and songwriter finding their own voice. Etta James' classic album 'At Last!', plus 2 bonus tracks

It was during the Sixties when Etta James truly found her musical direction and made a lasting mark as a soulful pop and blues diva. Presented here in both its Stereo and Mono versions, her debut album 'At Last!' was released in 1960 and noted for its varied choice in music from jazz standards to blues numbers to doowop and rhythm & blues. It ranked #119 on Rolling Stone's 2012 list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

Home Grown Funk was also known as "Homegrown Syndrome," a controversial name bestowed to them. Before heading to LA they gigged all over Memphis. Some of the members were from an earlier 70s group called "Brothers Unlimited" and had earlier ties during the 60s with the "Memphis Invaders" (a peaceful civil rights activist group).

With aspirations of pushing Homegrown further, a few members including Jerry Jones made the move out west. It was LA 1977 when they were introduced to Ike Tuner through a mutual friend "Ricky G". It was a casual meetup. Then one night Ike had his son Ike Jr. go check them out while performing at the Soul Train hangout spot "Maverick Flats". Ike Jr. praised their performance to Ike and he had them come out to his Inglewood studio. The group walked into the studio with a funky track already playing and that's when Jerry Jones improvised this opportunity and started singing. Ike then turned and said… "Who is that singing?" Jerry said, "Thats me." Then Ike replied " YOU BIG MUTHAF***A! You could be my new Tina." From that point the group cut bunch of tracks with Ike over the years up until they're feature on his 1980 album "The Edge."

In 1981 Perry Kibble (Keyboardist for Taste Of Honey) was at "Concerts In The Park" and heard Home Grown Funk performing. He linked up with the group and got them a deal with Arista. During this time they recorded their hit track " Confrontation." Perry suggested that the group change their name because he didn't want another group with the work "Funk" in it and hence "Homegrown Syndrome." They also use the Arista studio to cut an unreleased acetate with tracks "Got the love" and "Party Vibes" which we have here

Born in Birmingham, Thomas Atlas began his impressive musical journey studying the greats thanks to his Father’s record collection.
From then, his fondness for Funk and Soul has grown stronger, taking him touring the UK and USA with some of the finest outfits. But Thomas always knew his destiny was to follow his own path and he has done just that! Now collaborating with British boutique record label Hillside Global on these exclusiverecordings.

Kraak & Smaak's 6th studio album - 'Pleasure Centre' is the culmination of two years hard work since their critically acclaimed 'Juicy Fruit' LP and their first Kraak & Smaak LP released on their own label – Boogie Angst. As expected it's a glorious record packed with future classics, flitting between funky dancefloor focused jams and more relaxed downtempo affairs.

The album has a definite US West Coast vibe to it and sees them fuse classic 70's and 80's yacht rock, dream pop, and indie influences in with their signature electronic funk sound. And this result is no mere accident or emulation… Working on the demos in their own studio before travelling to LA for a month last year to meet and work with featured artists, they stayed in Echo Park and recorded in local studios and sometimes even in the homes or backyards garages of their collaborators.

nothing,nowhere. is the musical endeavor of Vermont songwriter, singer and guitarist Joe Mulherin. For Mulherin, nothing,nowhere. is about a connection. It’s one he finds with fans around the world, who gather to see him play on tour and to listen to his songs online. It’s that connection that urges the singer to place his fears aside and step onstage each night to share his art. He sees the potential to help, to make a change, however small it may be and that is why he brings his music out of the Vermont wildness.

40 years after its initial release, the impossibly rare diamond-in-the-rough 45 from Pure Release is once again seeing the light of day.

Led by James Fernandez, this East LA Funk crossover is in a league of its own. It’s sunshine and feel-good vibes from top to bottom with a decidedly learned but still naive aesthetic. Fernandez stacked his band with a cast of mostly Latino local session musicians so it’s needless to say that the çrhythm section punches well above its weight for a private release such as this one.

One of the choice tracks from the album, “I’ll Know it’s Love For Sure”, met some criticism after the album’s release for its lack of a certain level of polish in the production. It was eventually re-recorded and pressed to an equally rare 7” single. This version of the hit song would go on to become the most sought after, and therefore most easily recognized version. This means, for old and new fans of Pure Release alike, that the 45 cut of this track from On the Loose might be an entirely new experience with all the same floor-filling potential.

Two monster sounds from The Trinikas circa 1969, the culmination of the female four piece’s short-lived career.

Recorded in Missouri and sneaking out on the Pearce label, ‘Black Is Beautiful’ was a post-hippie dance anthem that later made a short-lived appearance on their native west coast Century label.

A horn-led classic with a four-part vocal and a truly funky drummer in attendance, it’s a spiritual blast.

The B-side of the original single is dusted off here too; a funkier cut that’s turned up in a few DJs’ setlists thanks to a re-issue via Numero and Jazzman.

‘Remember Me’ with its staccato guitar, upbeat horns and swirling organ is an infectious head-nodder.

Remastered for full-on soul supremacy.
