ávila is a medicinal plant that grows wild in tropical climates all over the world as well as the name of cumbia/latin/world/r&b project by guitarist Fabiola Reyna, vocalist Brisa Gonzalez and percussionist extraordinaire Papi Fimbres. MAYAHUEL is the follow up to their stunning self-titled debut, and further explores their singular melding of cumbia, dream-pop, spirited vocals, hallucinatory riffing and driving percussion.

"MAYAHUEL is based on time spent before the pandemic immersed in the music, traditions, people and environment of Oaxaca. Lots of these songs are integrated with field recordings from musicians we met along the way, incorporating pre-hispanic percussion elements and field recordings taken from the streets during our time there. Meant more as a reflection on what we encountered though some songs evolved into something more elaborate as we explore the genre of ancestral club. Honoring the craft and the ones that came before him through undeniably infectious beats that brace the weight of his choice samples and original layers. Getting his chops up through his younger days, Shane spent his time developing instrumental obstacle courses for local emcees to dance around including Gift Of Gab (Blackalicious), Spills (NY) Kinetic Source (Ozomatli) and Cashus King (LA.) By the age of 21 Shane threw himself into the ring of the Stones Throw beat making contest. To only the surprise of himself, Shane walked away twice as a weekly winner of the battles. After a small hiatus due to the birth of his daughter Clementine, Shane jumped back on the pads and began crafting the instrumentals for what would become Apostolos. With the instrumentals in flux Shane reached out via Instagram to an upcoming emcee out of the Duck Down Camp, a prodigy of the late, great Sean Price, Rim. After chatting back and forth for a small time, making sure Rim knew Shane was in this project for the right reasons, Rim jumped on board and even helped land other up and coming NY emcees like Eddie Kaine & Spills. From there everything snowballed. One feature led to another and soon enough the album was taking shape with features from not only Rim and Eddie Kaine, but hip-hop heroes such as Masta Ace, Planet Asia, A.G. of D.I.T.C. and Geechi Suede. With a few more instrumentals and spaces to fill Shane reached out to long-time bay area engineer/producer Deegan Mack Adams to help with the mixing and mastering and overall release of the project. Apostolos gets its namesake and back cover imagery from Shane Sounds' great great Grandfather, Apostolos Christakis who immigrated to the United States from Greece at the turn of the 20th century. The documents you see on the back cover are Apostolos’s army registration documents only a week after coming to the United States. We pay our respects to the ones who came before us and allowed us to be here to create this project. Salute!

Siouxsie & The Banshees final album ‘The Rapture’ includes the title track as well as ‘Fall from Grace’ and ‘Not Forgotten’ which were produced by the band in 1993. The release comes as a limited edition 140-gram turquoise transparent vinyl.

French vocalist, beatboxer, songwriter and producer Sly Johnson unveils 55.4, his much- anticipated fourth studio album, released on BBE Music. Hailing from Paris, Sylvère Johnson (Sly Johnson) is a major force on the French Hip-Hop, Soul and Jazz scenes, both as a solo artist and as a member of super-group SAIAN SUPA CREW for over a decade, where he was known by the moniker Sly The Mic Buddah. When the crew broke up in 2007, Johnson began to carve out an impressive career, releasing on Blue Note and Universal Jazz, as well as collaborating with Larry Gold, Roddy Rod, T3 & Elzhi from Slum Village, Georgia Ann Muldrow, Dudley Perkins, FINALE, Erik Truffaz, and legendary French rapper Oxmo Puccino among many others. Written and recorded during the first COVID lockdowns between March and May 2020, Sly Johnson’s fourth album blends Soul and Hip-Hop, twinning vocal arrangements reminiscent of Prince and D’Angelo with loose, supple, beats and jazzy chords. Most of the musical heavy lifting is done by Johnson himself, but the album features bass by Laurent Salzard, guitar by Ralph Lavital and Anthony Jambon, keys by Nicholas Vella & Laurent Coulondre and a spellbinding guest vocal by Jona Oak. Why 55.4? “It took 55 days of creation to make the songs of this 4th solo album” says Sly.

Stevie Ray Vaughan's third studio album Soul To Soul was released in 1985, just two years after his massive debut Texas Flood. Moving more into a soulful R&B-tinged blues sound, Stevie included two new band members on keyboard and saxophone for Soul To Soul. The band know their way around a number of cover versions of songs penned by Hank Ballard, Doyle Bramhall, and Willie Dixon, bringing a variety of influences into SRV's brand of modern blues. His own compositions such as “Say What”, “Ain't Gone 'N' Give Up On Love” and “Life Without You” reveal an artist that is ever passionate in delivering real blues, and growing in his songwriting at the same time.

Released in 1968, I Wish I Knew found Burke battling with the changing times, which in turn led to changing musical styles and sounds, the title track,
“I Wish I Knew How It Would Feel to Be Free,” which did manage to hit the Hot 100. Other singles on the album included “Save It,” “Get Out of My Life, Woman,”.

While there’s definitely an unabashed ’68 sound to them, you still can’t go wrong with Solomon Burke.

One of the most globally successful and exciting acts to emerge from Africa in recent years, and following their breath taking, series-stealing show at this year’s Nile Rodgers curated Meltdown Festival at London’s South Bank, Mali’s Songhoy Blues make a return with a 5-track EP of new music on Transgressive Records.

Available digitally and on limited 12” vinyl, the Meet Me In The City EP features David Ferguson and Blake Mills mixes of Time To Go Home (a new track written for them by Will Oldham aka Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy), a cover of Junior Kimbrough’s Meet Me In The City and a great version of the Fela Kuti & The Africa 70 track Shakarafeaturing Fela’s son, Femi Kuti.

Time To Go Home and Meet Me In the City were originally produced by Matt Sweeney, who first introduced the band to Will Oldham, andrecorded in London and Shakara was recorded in Mali and produced by the band, Mark LeVine, Manjul and Anton Pukshansky. The EP marks an impressive and seismic musical leap forward for the band who released their second album, Résistance, to massive acclaim in June 2017.

Sosyete '25 announce their debut album Yaygara, arriving Friday 22nd May, a vibrant, groove-led journey through love, liberation and the restless curiosity that fuels desire, humour and connection. Bringing together songwriter and vocalist Merve Erdem (Kit Sebastian), guitarist and producer Glenn Fallows, and producer/multi-instrumentalist Paul Elliott, the trio blend Mediterranean disco-pop, outernational funk and poeticism into a sound that feels both transportive and instinctively alive.

Named after the Turkish word for “commotion” or “uproar,” Yaygara is steeped in movement. Opening track “Bilmece” drifts through a dreamlike haze as Merve contemplates existence as an unsolvable riddle, anchored by a tough rhythmic pulse and the otherworldly tones of the Lotar. Across previously released singles “Oyun” and “Yan,” repetition becomes ritual, grooves lock tight, and emotion unfolds with playful defiance.

A limited vinyl edition accompanies the digital release, with Side A carrying tracks 1–5 and Side B collecting the remaining tracks. It’s a fitting format for a band whose music feels pressed with warmth, something to flip over, sink into and feel in full colour.

2026 is the 50th anniversary of the iconic fourth album by Average White Band, released in June 1976.

Reaching #9 and becoming their third consecutive US Top 10 album, “Soul Searching” includes the much-sampled classics ‘A Love Of Your Own’ and ‘Queen Of My Soul’, with the latter reaching the Top 40 Singles Charts on both sides of the Atlantic. Two further singles in ‘Everybody’s Darling’ and ‘I’m The One’ were also released as singles in various parts of the world.

Snoop Dogg, Fatboy Slim, Ice Cube, Puff Daddy, TLC, Rick Ross, will.i.am and Mark Ronson amongst countless others, have all borrowed sections of their grooves.

An expanded 2CD set contains the original 10 track album, along with bonus tracks / B-Sides taken from the four singles ‘Wannabe’, ‘Say You’ll Be There’, ‘2 Become 1’ and ‘Mama’/’Who Do You Think You Are’ (all No. 1 in the UK). The second disc contains a selection of the many remixes commissioned for the singles, along with previously unreleased songs. The original 10 track album will also be made available as a Zoetrope (animated) vinyl picture disc and five different coloured vinyl LPs . LIMITED EDITIONS. An obscure R&B group from Des Moines, Iowa, Split Decision Band released one single during their existence. Issued on the local Network label in 1978. The now still sought-after track “Watchin’ Out” still commands a high price amongst collectors on the soul scene.
