The Delfonics are an R&B/soul trio originally consisting of brothers William Hart, Wilbert Hart, and Randy Cain and became famous with their high-pitched, male vocal harmonies typical of the Philly Soul sound. One of their most iconic hits was “Didn’t I (Blow Your Mind This Time)”, released on their self-titled third album. It was the only Delfonics which reached the top 100 on the Billboard 200 charts. It is frequently called their most complete album and the highlight of their long career. Besides “Didn’t I” the record brought them four hit singles during the two years after its release. The smooth grooves and intensity of the album marked their famous sound. This is a must have for every music fan in general.

First ever release of Deniece Chandler’s toddlin’ town album includes all of her toddlin’ town and subsidiary lock 45rpm releases plus previously unreleased and bonus recordings 4 x Grammy award winner Deniece Chandler was born June 3rd, 1950 in Gary, Indiana and grew up rubbing shoulders with the Jackson 5. Her uncle William Blakely was the Bishop of Indiana and her sister sang back-up for Lou Rawls! She successfully auditioned for Toddlin’ Town Records from neighbouring Chicago, while still at high school and Eugene Record and Barbara Acklin penned her first single, “Love Is Tears” / “I’m Walking Away”, which opens our set. The song enjoyed some modest local success, but more importantly, it caught the ear of Stevie Wonder! She recorded a total of six singles for Toddlin’ Town, and its associated Lock label, including a duet with Michigan soul singer Lee Sain. The twelve sides were intended to form her solo album, but sadly Lock went out of business in 1970 & Deniece returned to college. A year later the call came from Stevie Wonder and she joined his backing group Wonderlove (the inspiration for our album title).
Her big break came in 1975 when she met Maurice White of Earth, Wind & Fire who took her to Columbia Records and produced the album “This Is Niecy” which spawned her self-penned single “Free” scoring a top 40 stateside hit and a No.1 in the U.K. Williams would go on to win four Grammys, twelve nominations and become a worldwide household name. Here, for the very first time, we present her complete early body of work including unreleased and bonus tracks that showcase her exceptional four-octave range which, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette “would make Mariah Carey quiver”.

Denver first gained recognition as an accompanist and background singer for PM
Warson, who produced this album. She and her co-writer Kit Warren began writing
this album in early 2022, recording it gradually over the next 18 months. They
utilised several studios across London to capture the best of each element: The
Cube in Stoke Newington for the drum sound, Hackney Road Studios for lead
vocals, and Sam Beer's studio in Acton for Hammond, Wurlitzer, and background
vocals. This album was a labour of love, involving over 12 musicians with
incredible talent.
Inspired by the doo-wop and Chicago soul pioneers The Impressions, the vocal
styles of Sarah Vaughan and Aretha Franklin, and the echoing, modern R&B
sounds of Thee Sacred Souls and The Altons, Denver's debut album has a clear
thematic thread. It effortlessly navigates the world of '60s- style background
vocals and R&B horn arrangements, carefully curated by Denver. With her
background in jazz and her arrangement style firmly rooted in the world of soul
and R&B, you can clearly hear her influences, supported by some of London's
finest musicians.

At only 19 years old, Dar Es Salaam's DJ Travella represents a new wave of singeli producers who are driving Tanzania's breakneck dance sound into fresh, innovative spaces. Unaffiliated with any of the well-known studios like Sisso and Pamoja, Hamadi Hassani's music points singeli's fusion of taraab and techno towards the stars, locating a cyber-singeli style that's dense, kinetic and unashamedly sexy. Hassani started producing at 15, and a few years later his debut is a jagged set of hi-nrg dance music that pulls influence from across the globe, folding together elements of dembow, rave, R&B, and trap. But nothing's straightforward: opening track 'Crazy Beat Music Umeme 2' juxtaposes grinding 200bpm rhythmic intensity with urgent plucked strings, sounding like Timbaland conjuring a Thunderdome soundtrack for a Tanzanian street party. 'Crazy Beat Music Umeme 4' is even more barbed, with neon rave synths and hand-jammed percussion that's one part 808 Mafia and one part DJ Diaki. On 'London Bandcamp', Travella meshes hi-speed singeli backbeats with downtempo dembow kicks, squeezing out unexpected sleaze in the process, while on 'London Uwoteeee' there's an almost romantic sparkle, with ethereal vocals draped across woodblock cracks and whistles. Dominique Fils-Aim is a JUNO Award winning singer-songwriter from
Montreal who draws inspiration from soul icons of the 40’s and 60’s such as Billie Holiday, Etta James, and Nina Simone.
While her musical roots are grounded in early soul and jazz, her voice transcends contemporary urban soundscapes. Her sophomore record Stay Tuned!
won the 2020 JUNO Award for “Vocal Jazz Album of the Year” as well as the Felix prize for “Best Jazz Album” at the ADISQ Gala.
Her 3rd album THREE LITTLE WORDS is a startlingly self-reflective look at affecting societal change while reminding the listener that it is equality and love which feeds the soul and inspires us to do better. Fils-Aim has a disarmingly literal interpretation of soul music as music that comes from the soul, and the album pays homage to a plethora of musical genres that fed and nurtured her love of lyric-driven jazz and soul music.

Soul Direction presents the second instalment of unissued tracks from the writer and composer behind the music of 70s group Legacy.
These two tracks came from two master tapes, and after further conversations with Eddie, he shared: “The lead vocals on Love Is Hard to Find were Delbert Nelson (who also
performed some backing vocals for The Funk Brothers) and me, Eddie Watkins Jr.” Eddie is also the lead vocalist on “Did You Notice” (I Used to Love You.)

The eloquent outsider EJ Marais debuts with an LP of contemporary compositions addressing the artist’s everyday explorations of life in the early 2020s. His Instagram description reads Folk / Dubstep / Country which speaks to his postmodern approach to traditional genres, cherry picking elements of bedroom RnB, northern indie and balearic breakbeat, held together with EJ’s unpretentious English accent.  Simply titled CUTS, the album is a melodramatic debut from a vocalist, songwriter and producer equally as eloquent with his use of organic instruments, vaporwave synths and tasteful autotune.

The lead single from the album, ‘Love.mp3 b/w Better’ - was originally distributed digitally by TWIN before La Castanya gave it a physical release, attracting international attention to the name of EJ Marais. The double A side contained a pair of understated anthems to end an evening at the club, or soundtrack an afternoon lazed away.  Blessed with the rich Mediterranean aesthetic of co-producer Ekhi Lopetegi (Delorean), ‘Love.mp3’ is a lo-fi ballad, a reserved salute to a brand new bae that could have been penned by Homeshake, whilst ‘Better’ recalls the stoned sway of a Channel Orange-era Frank Ocean: 808s, crestfallen digital vocals, an acoustic guitar loop, a touch of the otherworldly pads and samples so unmistakably Delorean.

EJ Marais was born in Brighton and currently lives in Barcelona, where he has begun to carve out his career and the crew of collaborators that feature on CUTS. Basque saxophonist Haizea Martiartu appears as a Kenny G to EJ’s Kanye on ‘Bedroom RnB’ and percussionist Ander Agudo adds joyful tambourine and tribal bongos to ‘Discotheque’, one of the certified bangers of the LP. CUTS concludes on an ecstatic high with ‘Feng Shui’, an ideal road trip tune featuring the backing vocals and co-production of Elsa de Alfonso.

"BBC SOUND POLL OF 2024 LONG LIST FINALIST There's also a strong showing for British soul and R&B, led by Oxford-born Stevie Wonder fanatic Elmiene.
The 22-year-old had a breakout moment in 2021, when his song Golden was chosen to soundtrack Virgil Abloh's final show for Louis Vuitton.
The show took place just two days after Abloh's tragic death, and Elmiene's mournful, nostalgic ballad seemed to be a tribute to the late fashion designer.
He has since released two EPs of equally emotional soul and collaborated with stars from Stormzy and Jamie Woon to Timbaland and Justin Timberlake."
