Nano Diamond LP

17.11.2021

Sissi Rada is a wonderfully ambiguous personality and one of the best harpists for contemporary classical music in Europe and at the same time producer of beautiful abstract electronica songs. Her album "Nanodiamond" comes out on new Berlin label Kryptox with guest vocals by Lena Platonos, co-production by Brian Eno on 81948 (2000 OM69) and Andi Toma of Mouse on Mars on Maps and Blueblack Tomb. A futuristic body of work that combines the sweet melancholy of the classical harp with subtle electronic soundscapes and Sissi Rada's magical voice.

Easy Sampling

12inchAFN007EP
A Flooded Need
Release unknown

EP extracted from 'Easy Sampling' in 7" format. Limited edition of 30, manufactured by TapeToDisk.

Guido Marziale from Napoli is the guy behind the moniker Eks. He plays different kind of electronic device for playback of recorded sound and samples. His approach is focused on music production and on free improvisation as well to create a mix of beatmaking and noise with concrete and electro-acustic attitude.

Easy Sampling presents itself as a perfect hybrid between the world of slowed down/chop 'n' screw music from Houston and the universe of experimental abstract/glitch music, crossing the dangerous fields of noise, improvisation and no-input theories.
The dualism between classic and experimental beatmaking are filtered together with syrup, making the narrative fluid of the tracks a set of distinguishable but cohesive emotions.

Mix Match Emperor - 亂 (luan) EP

亂 (luan) is the latest release from LA based producer/DJ Mix Match Emperor who weaves powerful soundscapes with an amalgamation of field recordings, obscure samples and original music compositions that combine to form a cohesive work of sound art that stays true to its name, translated to “Chaos”.
The combination of jazz samples and lo-fi mixing techniques create a cocktail that in parts resembles vaporwave whilst regularly pulling away from any genre formulation with sharp cuts into noise and then back through electronic rhythms reminiscent of Autechre.

Although listeners can often be tempted to pick out their favourite tracks, this record is definitely designed to be listened to in its entirety, as it takes you on a journey through varying phases that nod to both Steve Reich & the late Sam Mehran simultaneously.

The album is the leadoff release under the Strictly Frisky label with a limited cassette run available here for the first time.

Oren Ambarchi - Sagittarian Domain

10th anniversary reissue of this rhythmically churning one-man-band monster of an album, recorded in a single inspired studio session & originally released in 2012 on Editions Mego.

From the original Editions Mego press release:

“For anyone who still associates Oren Ambarchi exclusively with the clipped, bass-heavy tones of solo electric guitar works such as Suspension, this rhythmically churning one-man-band monster of an album-length piece might seem to come out of nowhere. However, listeners who have followed the breadth of his work for the last few years (solo and in projects with collaborators from Jim O’Rourke to Stephen O’Malley and Keith Rowe to Keiji Haino) will have noted how Ambarchi has allowed increasingly clear traces of his enthusiasms as a music listener (for classic rock, minimal techno and 70’s fusion, among other areas) to surface in his performances and recordings, all the time filtering them through his signature long-form structures and psychoacoustic sonics.

Recorded in a single inspired studio session, Sagittarian Domain displaces Ambarchi’s trademark guitar sound from the centre of the mix, its presence felt only as an occasional ghostly reverberated shimmer. Endlessly pulsating guitar and bass lines sit alongside electronic percussion and thundering motorik drumming (familiar from his work with Keiji Haino) at the core of the piece, locking into a voodoo groove like Faust covering a 70’s cop show theme. The work is founded on hypnotic almost-repetition, the accents of the drum hits and interlocking bass and guitar lines shifting almost imperceptibly back and forwards over the beat as they undergo gradual transformations of timbre. Cut-up and phase-shifted strings enter around the half-way mark like an abstracted memory of the eastern-tinged fusion of the Mahavishnu Orchestra’s classic Visions of the Emerald Beyond, before returning for an extended, stark yet affecting come-down coda, equal parts Gavin Bryars and Purple Rain.

While Sagittarian Domain contains traces of a diversity of influences, it mines all of them to uncover something that is clearly an extension of Ambarchi’s own investigations up to this point, exhibiting the same care for micro-detail and surrender to the physicality of sound that are present in all of his work, extending them in new ways to repetition, pulse and rhythm”.

23.05.2019

hirty years after its original release in West Berlin, Tresor Records is glad to present a re-mastered and re-cut edition of TV Victor’s legendary debut album Moondance.
TV Victor, one of Tresor’s spearhead artists since the label’s very first hour, is an alias of Udo Heitfeld. In 1989, TV Victor launched his first solo project under the form of Moondance. He then went on to compose legendary ambient and trance productions including Trance Garden 1-3, Trancecology Chapter 1 , Timeless Deccelaration and The Ways Of The Bodies.
TV Victor collaborated with other artists such as Moritz von Oswald, Thomas Fehlmann, Max Loderbauer, Paul Browse or Tobias Freund, amongst many others.
From the liner notes: “These songs are an invitation to your consciousness. Moondance is the sound of your aware body. The moon is the place where your body realizes consciousness. Floating and dancing is the way people come together. A di erent kind of gravity, a di erent state of mind and electricity between man and woman makes it alive. Find your own moon.”

Gábor Lázár - Boundary Object LP

Gábor Lázár’s “Boundary Object” is a collection of eight real-time recorded, unedited tracks made in Budapest and Prague between 2020 and 2022 using a self-designed compositional interface. It's Gábor Lázár’s second album for Planet Mu following “Source” in 2020. The title comes from the idea of a Boundary object as a flexible concept of sociology and computation of how collaborations could happen between groups of people who have different kinds of backgrounds and different levels of knowledge. A Boundary object could be anything which translates between these groups to make a collaboration happen. Boundary objects are plastic, interpreted differently across communities but with enough common identity across social words and contexts to maintain integrity. This is a neat summary of how Gábor’s approach and working process led to his music on this album. Prismatic, flexible, and functioning on different levels of interpretation. On “Boundary Object”, the shiny surfaces and uniformity of “Source” have collapsed inward, leaving intact the recognisable pulse and frames of his music. While each individual track has a non-linear structure, the album as a whole has a strong narrative. Passages that start out Trance-like and familiar warp and weft into different shapes as if Gábor is examining the music like a 3d object, pulling at the edges, breaking and rebuilding what he examines, turning expectations inside-out. “Boundary Object” is intense, full-spectrum and a lot of fun.

Sega Bodega
02.03.2022

Sega Bodega’s 2020 debut album ‘Salvador’ has been
universally lauded as a critical success, with i-D naming it as
a record “destined to appear on everyone’s end of year lists.”
Cutting through the chaos of early 2020, the LP exposed
Sega Bodega at his most raw and vulnerable, swirling
emotional and psychological turmoil amongst his most
experimental and hard-hitting production work to date.
What was initially a personal and intricate exploration into the
artist’s innermost thoughts has transformed into a treasured
sanctuary for his dedicated fanbase, striking a chord for the
generational turmoil we’ve all experienced this year.
Upon release, ‘Salvador’ was launched with limited edition
vinyl variants that were eagerly snapped up, selling out
almost immediately, whilst the album continues to stream in
the millions.
By popular demand, Sega Bodega returns with a new vinyl
edition of ‘Salvador’, the ‘Salvador: Heaven Edition’. The red
/ black splatter vinyl adds bonus track ‘Heaven Fell’
(featuring Caroline Polachek’s ethereal vocal), which was
originally debuted at Sega’s St Pancras Old Church String
Ensemble residency back in 2019 and revisited in 2021’s
‘Salvador: The Final Act’ online live show.
Born in Ireland, raised in Glasgow and now based in London,
producer, performer and labelhead Sega Bodega - aka
Salvador Navarrete - has built a reputation as being one of
the UK’s most innovative and precocious creative minds.
Inspired as much by his close network of peers as his love of
cinematic soundscapes, he has made impacts spanning
across music, fashion and film, soundtracking some of the
most important cultural moments in recent years, as well as
building a catalogue of prolific and critically acclaimed solo
releases that traverse genre, style and composition.

Nu Creative Methods - Nu Jungle Dances

When the second Nu Creative Methods album was released, New And Rediscovered Musical Instruments by Max Eastley and David Toop had already been available for almost three years. Without being able to say that there was a direct, real-time influence, the direction taken by the British and French duos was however the same, combining research and tradition in a quest for a new imaginary folklore.

The name chosen by the pair was anything but innocent, linking them to both the track «Nu Creative Love» by Don Cherry (from Symphony For Improvisers) and the book My Creative Method by Francis Ponge. Because the first outlines the route of a free jazz the boundaries of which have constantly been demolished and through which Pierre Bastien and Bernard Pruvost traced their own path, while the second, an anarchist creating a bomb with the irrational as gunpowder, is close to providing an intellectual method. Close, because even this is undermined by other essential routes taken by Nu Creative Methods. The Oulipo, for example, encouraged all sorts of creativity; or perhaps pataphysics, according to which a banal saucepan is equivalent to the Mona Lisa! To get closer to the source of their imagination, the following names would have to be added to the list, Locus Solus by Raymond Roussel, the Art Ensemble of Chicago, Harry Partch, New Phonic Art and «Zwei Mann Orchester» by Maurizio Kagel. That shows, in broad strokes, the creative wheels in motion behind Nu Creative Methods and Nu Jungle Dances offers a taste of the pathways offered by chance, following improvisations using instruments from the five continents.

By proceeding thus, that is to say entering an esthetic zone where popular and esoteric music come together at last, an infinite palette of sounds opens up, offering fantastic perspectives. Between free jazz and ancestral music, Nu Jungle Dances makes it happen without pretence but with a rare and luminous extravagance. But also with the willingness to take on board unexpected surprises, and with a natural charm combating for the craft of sound creation.

Initiation Insight

CassetteDSK060
DISKOTOPIA
08.04.2022

Diskotopia is ecstatic to launch our 11th year with a bombastic new LP from label co-founder BD1982. Initiation Insight follows 2021's seminal Distance Vision LP - which garnered inclusion in Bandcamp's Best Electronic Music, JunoDaily's Best New Albums, and coverage in The Wire, RA, and Louder Than War - surveying the previously-plotted sonic ley lines and expanding upon them in drastically robust and kaleidoscopic directions.

Musically, the tracks across Initiation Insight have been composed with an ear towards ritualistic structures, with the album's themes touching upon spirituality, hermetic philosophy, dreams, and human evolution in the face of impending natural destruction.

On this release, BD1982 favors stylistically nomadic production and a drive for emotion over genre constraints to explore further depths of songwriting and structures not yet heard in his previous material. Tribal-informed industrial and molten-electro styles coalesce with both future-facing and ancient-rooted textures – spread across an underlying current of soundsystem-savvy sonics.

Initiation Insight proves to be another major step in the evolution of BD1982's sound, a caustic yet covalent natural mutation that will appeal to fans of Killing Joke, My Bloody Valentine, PJ Harvey, Cabaret Voltaire, Samhain, and Tricky alike.

Mastered by Dominic Clare at Declared Sound.

Available as a limited-edition cassette.

wannamarchi.club presents MOTO, the debut solo release from Turkish gearhead Boëthius. The producer and sound designer (whose work has appeared on NTS, Los Angeles label Tar and in sets from the likes of Laurel Halo, Endgame, Acre and Prison Religion) is determined to re-animate “post-club” music’s disassembled limbs. MOTO’s five tracks twist at breakneck speed, combining rattling beats with head-flipped samples, shape-shifting through IDM angularity into sudden bursts of noise.

The burning tyres and revved up engines of blustering opener Nitro suggest box fresh escapades into the unknown. 4Loko doubles down on this hedonistic spirit, its slow-burning bass and skitzo hi-hats bringing an intoxicating decadence to the track’s euphoric core. Where the masterful clashes of metal and ringtones of I Don’t seem to be transmitted directly from the future, the viscous Velvet High Heels dismantles its hauntological premises one bullet at a time. By the time club-smashing closer Stretched Out, Almost There hits, MOTO’s accelerating moods will have you transfixed and transformed.

Literally terabytes of bodyspam gush from my cleavered gut contorting and hurling a harsh beige pumping swirl of bile and chunks that blow into a gash of nicely printed paper bagging under my chin like a bib FLY EMIRATES a thin chord of acid dribble stringing from my lip. Mate. It’s a cold tight cold feeling with a clingy close bubble of hugging close silvery shiver effect that sticks around my ribs, up the spine etc etc and you can’t expect me to sit around on the runway like some lemon I’ve got disposable income, looking down I find a freshly lost brown leather wallet and rifle through it, a stack of nearly complete loyalty cards Pret, Nero, Itsu and many more as well as a Monzo card, i press the service buzzer and order a Heineken.

From the artist:
“It might settle around, never accepting or offering itself like a handful of water that holds its shape even as some leaks between the fingers. Its hardness holds no moisture. The stillness has no give, no reflection of the other. In this case at least it’s not even a coldness. That would imply disdain. The silent flowering of each word printed on the page before you. Ben Bondy - Glans Intercum

Over a year since we last heard from them, Huerco S’ West Mineral imprint shimmers into view for their first release of 2021 - a lush, jittery high of aerosolised ambient thizz and top shelf electroid steppers from Ben Bondy, highly recommended if yr into Perila, Jan Jelinek, Second Woman, Kindohm or Uon.

Last year's "Sibling", released on Special Guest DJ's Experiences Ltd was one of the year's subtle standouts, but Bondy's music refuses to tether itself to one sound or another, instead hovering around the fertile area between experimental ambient and outre club modes. "Glans Intercum" paces further sideways, toying with dub and drone ideas and sandwiching these sketches between buzzing drum workouts that squeeze texture from collapsing beat templates. Oscillating piquant shocks of vibrant energy with steeply opiated hypnagogia and OOBE-like sensations, the results locate a mind in flux, torn between the need to flex hyper-articulated limbs and becoming lost in discretely introspective ambient interzones.

The eight tracks course from a sort of kaotic power ambient energy to a lushly unresolved daydream serenity through alternately convulsive and temple-smushing turns. ‘Rest’ opens with a bitter explosion of digital scree that escalates into pill-belly jitters, and ‘Ash In Emerald Casing’ keeps toes off the ground with Rian Treanor-levels of pointillist hyper-footwork tekkers, contrasting with the DJ Python-esque slithering vox and atmospheric mulch of ‘Spangled (With Stella).’ From the skittish ‘Drip on Nape’ his circles start to bleed into one, with the aqueous shimmer of ‘Ven’ and Stella’s vocals returns on ‘2404’ to blur the lines between up/down, where ’Skizz’ enacts a sort of perpendicular grime and he ultimately comes to bliss out in the fragile glassine fractals wilting from the closing title tune.

Club or bedroom, this one’s for the dreamers.

21.03.2022

“hi leaves” is the new full-length record from soft tissue, the duo of Glasgow-based artists Feronia Wennborg and Simon Weins. Following their self-titled debut for Penultimate Press in 2019, this collection examines microsound by way of extended amplification technique, bone conduction, domestic recordings, and digital feedback. Tracks like “plant pot” and “kettle” appear to disclose their source material, presenting wonderfully tactile environments of highly articulate sound. Wennborg and Weins prove themselves to be masterful arrangers of discrete, organic material, weaving together knotty and immersive compositions from these sharp, prickly sounds. Ultimately, soft tissue inhabits an intoxicating soundworld somewhere in between the patient abstractions of composerly EAI music, the haptic indulgences of ASMR, and the diffuse digital pastorals of the 90’s a-musik/Cologne scene.

Following up a powerful inaugural release by the legendary Mick Harris (and follow up by ASC), Madrid-based Trauma Collective return with their sophomore release by the enigmatic Makunaimadama. The production process on Katavai was said to be an immensely cathartic experience for the artist, one which saw him work through personal issues, while at the same time paying tribute to his ancestry. Katavai is a disciplined body of work, featuring five expressions of haunting and desolate electronics: from the austere trance induction of 'Konsera', to reduced and contorted techno derivatives explored on 'Waku' or 'Dekaton' and the malevolent sound architecture of 'Wakupemeton'.

PHILIPP OTTERBACH - EVERYTHING ELSE MATTERS 2LP

Philipp Otterbach’s psychedelic music never been a sunshine pleasure pill. But yet, the souls of his notes are deeply gentle. With “Everything Else Matters” the Berlin based DJ and producer now introduces his debut album, that follows a long introduction. Already since a while he devotes himself with endurance to music. He was an early resident at Düsseldorf’s shrine for outernational grooves Salon Des Amateurs. Since 2014 he releases music under his given name or as Grand Optimist on labels like Grokenberger Records, Knekelhuis or Themes For Great Cities and leaves marks as a remixer for artists like DJ Normal 4, Brainwaltzera, Wolf Müller and Niklas Wandt on labels like Growing Bin Records or Second Circle. His long DJ nights and already released music prefigures the spirits, that he now bunched on his first album. It’s a record, that does not want to pursue a straight categorization. It rather aims to spellbound with an atmosphere, that is made for moments in the absence of hysteria. Tribalistic, trip-hopping rhythms, menacing sounds, cold cool vocal passages, drone chants, morbid goth-ambient spheres, Indie rock indications: its many facets meld into some kind of black highway sound for thoughtful night prowlers in a dissociative state of mind. In context all particles achieve delicate sculptural effects that operate like the surprising architecture of a dream. A forward- thinking dream, that bundles something otherworldly, something unspeakable, that lives hauntingly between the sounds, rhythms and suggested melodies.

After his debut LP ‘Temmuz’, released at the beginning of last year, Houschyar is back on Macadam Mambo with his new album: a less danceable but more personal opus. Being locked up on the rooftops of Istanbul, Houschyar repurposed a satellite dish, making use of its perfectly round and concave shape to create strange metallic-sounding percussive loops which he painted with sonic atmospheres that contained diverse shades of blue. ‘Mavi’ is an introspective pallet of emotions condensed into 7 hybrid compositions highly improvised which divagate into a very jazzy modern state of mind, jamming with pianos, electronic organs and rhythm boxes to produce another type of spiritual music that sounds absolutely timeless. In a very prolific year - with his release with DJ Sofa and Okay Temiz on Music from Memory and the initial EP of Raphael Kosmos’ newborn label Späti Records -, Marius Houschyar leaves no doubt about the level of his talent and him being part of a new generation of artists to keep a close eye on. John Beltran - Ten Days Of Blue 2x12"

John Beltran first emerged in the techno scene 1991 with the Aquatic 12' on Carl Craig and Damon Bookers rare and seminal Retroactive label. The tones and shapes on Aquatic and his follow up for R&S Earth & Nightfall suggested an individual take on modern electronics as shades of jazz, classical and Latin whispered through Beltran's productions.
Ten Days Of Blue (1996) built on the successes of its redecessors with sharp rhythms and pure digital sounds flooding through dreamy sequences and subtle chord shapes. The title track and the plaintive Soft Summer sounded like Tangerine Dream injected with jazz bass or Kraftwerk mainlining on
heartbreak. Beltran seemed to have perfected the art of painting tones and rhythms across canvasses that were almost unbearably delicate and pretty. Over 20 years on and Ten Days Of Blue is still considered a masterpiece of delicate textures and heartstopping romance for those in the know. Essential!

Jason Nazary - Spring Collection (NEON ORANGE LP)

Brooklyn based drummer/producer Jason Nazary (of Anteloper) makes his We Jazz Records debut with "Spring Collection", released on 25 June. The album sees Nazary crafting some deliciously sparkly solo cuts plus working long disctance with choice collaborators Jaimie Branch, David Leon, Ramon Landolt, Matt Mitchell, Grey McMurray and Michael Coleman. This is essentially a collection of home recordings and the whole operation has an infectious feeling of immediacy to it. The result is improv adjacent electronic music, with modern production aesthetics transposed over spontaneous compositions.

Jason writes:

"With Spring Collection, my aim was to capture the spirit of spontaneity & collaboration lost in the absence of live music. Like most everyone else last spring, I suddenly had a lot of time on my hands and with all my work cancelled, and with an indefinite lockdown in effect, it became immediately apparent that most of my time – save a walk or two a day around the neighborhood – would be spent in the tiny one bedroom apartment I share with my wife and two cats.

What kind of music does one make during lockdown? I would begin my days with a cup of coffee and all the cables of my modest little modular set up in my lap, slowly discovering new sound worlds as I connected one cable after another – these became the beginnings for the pieces in Spring Collection. With these unformed sketches, I would record an improvisation, an exploration of sonics: a small kit of bells, shakers, pans, pots; their resonance captured in fine detail with ultra sensitive microphones. These became, in effect, a conversation first with myself, but later one I knew I had to open up, make social. In the desire not to diminish my collaborative impulses, I felt compelled to involve some of my favorite musicians in the process alongside me."

"Spring Collection" is released by We Jazz Records on 25 June on vinyl (neon orange & black vinyl editions), tape and digital formats. The vinyl edition comes with a booklet including original artwork and poetry by Todd Colby.

Paul Schütze - The Second Law

A boundless creative spirit, Australian artist Paul Schütze has worked for over forty years as a musician, photographer, visual artist and perfumer. He has exhibited at institutions such as the Hayward Gallery, the V&A and Madrid’s Arco, held residencies at the Cité des Arts in Paris and has works in collections worldwide. He has collaborated with musicians from Jah Wobble to Toshinori Kondo, from Bill Laswell to David Toop, and worked both as a filmscore composer and music critic in print.

A new, remastered compilation of key works from Schütze’s catalogue, The Second Law, collates music from various periods and albums. Represented here are tracks from 1990’s The Annihilating Angel, an album of blissed-out fourth-world mystery; from the transcendent homage to traditional Indonesian gamelan music The Rapture of Metals (1993); from the ethereal, spiritual, Nino Rota-esque melancholy of 1991’s Regard: Music by Film. It is occasionally dark, industrial and begrimed; occasionally paradisiacal and breathtakingly elegant. There are works of celestial, astronomic grandeur alongside microscopically detailed miniatures. Empty, deserted spaces of man-made abandonment contrast with studies of ornate natural beauty.

LUKE REQUENA - MIRROR STAGE

Castles in Space is thrilled to present Luke Requena’s debut solo album, “Mirror Stage”. As the Lacanian title suggests, it is a collection of meditations and self-reflection translated into sonic explorations of the space that connects the macrocosm and the microcosm. Inspired largely by Tarkovsky’s film Solaris, the making of Mirror Stage was a musical journey of internal struggle across subconscious landscapes.
Requena is a composer and multi-instrumentalist based in Vancouver, BC. Although his main source of sound is analog synthesizers, he also integrates santur, guitar and organs into his pieces. Drawing influences from artists such as Günter Schickert, early Pink Floyd, and classical Persian music, “Mirror Stage” emits waves of sonic and lush textures while exploring the dark cosmos. It’s a genuinely enthralling work.
Luke has already released a double album, “Nocturnal/Seasonal” with John Jeffrey, drummer of Moon Duo, for the Castles in Space Subscription Library as part of the new age electronic jazz project, Oscilloclast.

David Morley - Boundary Travels

No one sculpts volts & frequencies into a story quite like David Morley. For Futurepast’s third release, he has delivered a precise rendering of its vision to transcend temporal associations and perceptions. In the title track Boundary Travels, he ascends quickly into a weighty melodic line that oscillates like the natural intonations of an inner monologue, built upon a foundation of tightly knit hits and bleeps. The story of Limbo unfolds in the infinitesimal margin where intensity becomes softness, hesitation becomes resolution, and boundaries become intersections. Sounds drift past, above, and below in Crushing Pressure as if a city, or its memory, was suddenly suspended in a black hole. Boundary Travels might be the closest we can get to such a horizon.

Eric Frye - On Small Differences in Sensation

Eric Frye is a Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA, based artist, curator, and composer carefully balancing the boundaries between sound, philosophy, and mathematics and tirelessly exploring the most remote possibilities of electronic composition.

Producing On Small Differences In Sensation' Eric dived into the mathematical concept of sheafification and came out with some of his most dynamic and generous works. The album includes a booklet with texts by French mathematician Andrée Ehresmann, Colombian philosopher Fernando Zalamea, and researcher Inigo Wilkins. It will speak directly to your ice-cold intellect and melt your mind all at once!

Hanno Leichtmann writes: "SY-4 was a four-channel sound installation I presented at the SYN/CUSSION festival in May 2017. It is a homage to my most beloved of electronic instruments: the SY-1 Syncussion Drum Synth by Pearl.

The installation, an 18 min loop, was made exclusively with recordings of the SY-1, with only a touch of reverb added here and there. SY-4 Berlin Mix is more-or-less one loop of the installation, in a stereo mix.

SY-4 Budapest Mix was recorded at 4D Sound, Budapest, during a residency in August 2017. For this mix I mostly worked with unused prerecorded sounds and samples of the SY-1, run through a ER-301 Sound Computer." - Hanno Leichtmann, Berlin, 15.ii.2018

Present Tense
31.10.2018

Crystalline, surging IDM with a modern UK techno sensibility', upcoming Brighton-based producer qgb presents his debut LP 'Hornets' via his own Present Tense imprint.Produced over a two-year period, the album glides with lucidity between eight tracks of shimmering ambience and crisp polyrhythmic glitches. The title itself referring to poetic connections between the micro-world of insects and the intricate sound design/aesthetic of qgb's music. Throughout the record a crossbreed of UK techno influences emerge, blending approaches from 90's stalwarts (Autechre, Cristian Vogel and Mosquito Records) with the stylistic-leanings of more contemporary labels (e.g. Hessle Audio and Livity Sound). Aoki Takamasa, Alva Noto and Team Doyobi are also cited as inspirations. In adherence with the album concept, it takes form in a limited run of 100 custom-built USB sticks frozen in synthetic amber designed by designer Samuel Illife.

Tropa Macaca - Cacador Do Futuro

Instrumental music is supposed to be asemantic and yet a rich language of rhetorical gestures has grown up around it.
None of them may have a specific meaning but they easily lead the listener towards an emotion, a sensation, an embryonic story. Does any of this mean that music is abstract Or does it, to the contrary, mean that music tells a story There is no abstraction without a story. Is there a story without an abstraction The composition on this album, is it a radio play Tropa Macaca = André Abel and Joana da Conceição

Check out their earlier albums, they're just as great.

MERINERO - SPORES OF A PLUVIOPHILE EP

A metaphor about diversity and passion for athletics. Looking for inspiration in our environment, as diverse as quality electronics, as extensive as a marathon. Biome Laps wants to take a lot of laps within the IDM universe, electro and the most evocative ambient. This new Madrid electronic music label of José Merinero, which in 2021 celebrates 20 years in music, 15 since he launched his rst references on his own labels such as City Archives or Ultrix Records and 10 since the creation of .Àrtico Netlabel, his pretty girl, which has allowed him to move in the national underground, and in festivals like L.E.V. and what has been your home to look for that diversity, to nd that electronics without labels under the name of JM. Here, in addition, it has been able to count on the collaboration of great spanish producers in some references. Passion for electronics speaking of José, he falls short, so he decides to create Biome Laps, where we will nd timeless music, on vinyl and digital, and above all local music, made with a lot of passion. A veteran who debuts with his own name, showing himself without more, with a single objective, to give back to the music he believes in, everything he has received in return…

Kamana

* Kamana is a multiformat release inspired by and channeling the cultu- re and traditions of the Aeta, an indigenous group from the Zambales region in the Philippines. One of the oldest inhabitants of the region the Aetas are also some of the most fascinating and ancient nomadic and hunter gathering cultures. The release goes from the realms of the
real to the imaginary, from transcription to syncretism, from concrete to abstract. An (un)real Sonic Exorcism filled with

*Ancestral Frequencies, Haunted Ghosts and other animistic spirits roaming the Pinatubo forests.
The release features a series of materials released in different formats from the Field recording digital only release, an LP and CD release to a special 7inch vinyl featuring an Interview with a bat hunter.

* Kamana is a long due homage to the Aeta community that hosted me a few years back, fascinated by the endurance of these people and their connection to their land, devastated by the eruption of the Pinatubo volcano in 1991, they continued to go back to their ancestral lands surviving on basic agriculture and hunting bats and wild pigs. Living with them for weeks, I managed to capture some essential field recordings and sounds that form and com- pose the basis for this release, from the more reprocessed and interpreted LP release to the pure field recording documentation of the digital release. It is meant to be accessible to all and provide a window to the livelihoods of these unique communities. For this reason, this release serves as both an archival document and a syncretic one, trying to channel memories and feelings of living in these jungles whilst listening to their stories as well as witnessing their lifestyles.”
