Richard Wahnfried - Time Actor 2x12"

Dark Entries re-issue one of the greatest and most overlooked albums of the 1970s. "Time Actor" was the result of a collaboration between legendary Crazy World & Kingdom Come visionary Arthur Brown and German synthesizer and ambient genius Klaus Schulze, recording under the pseudonym of his alter-ego Richard Wahnfried. "Richard" is the name of Klaus' son born in 1979, and the first name of the German composer Wagner. "Wahnfried" is the name of Richard Wagner's house, from the German "wähnen Frieden fand" (that his search and hopes will find peace). The album was a unique fusion of Brown's eccentric musical vision and Schulze's mastery of synthesis. The album was originally released in 1979 on the German Innovative Communication label. Time Actor stands out amongst Schulze's massive catalog as a masterwork of avant garde new age. Schulze helms the project on electronics, and guests include Michael Shrieve on percussion, Vincent Crane on keyboards, and vocalist Arthur Brown, who sings - or should we say, speaks - on top of it all. Schulze describes the Wahnfried project in the liner notes as the collective pseudonym of an idea: Time-Electronic, an experiment between avantgarde and muzak: Utility-music for sound-covered environment, in which a new generation grows up: Richard Wahnfried is this generation: Music between genius and nonsense: New ideas transported by an old medium to your ear.'

This newly re-mastered reissue expands the original 60 minutes of music across a double LP to help with playback and distortion experienced on original pressings. We've added a bonus track in the form of a Cosmic 12-minute extended remix by Italian producer and DJ Maurizio Delvecchio from 1983. All songs have been remastered for vinyl by George Horn at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley. Housed in a gatefold jacket with original album artwork featuring a surreal painting by German artist Peter Nagel plus lyrics and notes. I wish you plenty of TIME' - Klaus Schulze

It's safe to say that Steven Legget has been somewhat measured in his approach to releasing music. The Newcastle native was behind the Four Hands moniker, with releases alongside iconic industrial figures Zoviet France on Signals From The North and the classic 'Hizou' on Claremont 56 back at the turn of the decade. Now, this Firecracker Recordings release highlights a fully realised body of work, only hinted at by the aforementioned projects. Starting life as a performance in Turkish Baths located in Newcastle upon Tyne's City Pool, one of the last remaining civil saunas in the country, Legget has created a textured, melodic and immersive eulogy to the woozy, slow motion, drug free endorphin rush of the bath house. Pieces from this performance, alongside field recordings collected on the islands of Paxos and Loutro, South Crete are reimagined as a luscious ambient music. Accompanied by cello and electronics with real attention paid to musicality, vast and gaseous cinematic compositions are submerged beneath waves and drenched in steam and condensation.

The remarkable thing about BELP's new album is its two-dimensional function. It works both on a loud and a quiet volume. Some tracks would go down well as a club track, like opener 'Travelling Thru Galaxies'. This track brings back memories of the best work released on the Hyperdub label, with it's fine combination of synths and irresistible, dubby beats. Elsewhere, 'Off Ending' might start off as 'dancehall-but-not-quite dancehall' track but when half way the synths kick in they change the feeling of the track to a more cerebral level.

BELP is the artist name of Sebastian Schnitzenbaumer. Born in Munich, he partially grew up on the Seychelles islands off the coast of East Africa. Educated in classical piano, those two gravitational poles, European and African influences, form the basis for his musical development. Currently he has close ties to the (dub) Sausage Studio in Hackney, London. In his hometown Munich, the Bavarian capital, BELP took a central role in a series of discussions and events aiming to improve the image and possibilities of Munich, which to his regret is a predominantly posh and hedonistic city where optimistic and uplifting music take central role.

In different guises Schnitzenbaumer works as a much needed antidote. Since 2013 he runs the Schamoni label, focusing on supporting local artists like Leroy and Protein. Its sublabel Jahmoni is responsible for recent works by international artists like Aaron Spectre and DJ Marcelle/Another Nice Mess.

BELP's music is dark, serious and layered. His love for dub and dancehall shines through in his broken beats. At the same time the synth layered tracks give the album an atmospheric feeling.

This also is what makes this album essential: it's refusal to be pigeonholed. The last track on side A, 'By Beauteous Softness', is an a cappella rendition of a 17th century Henry Purcell piece, beautifully sung by Alexander Schneider. This track is preceded by 'Transmission', which is a brilliant abstract work, sounding like wind closing on you from all sides. And you can sip a cocktail whilst listening to the jazzy 'Time And Again' (BELP once worked as a jazz pianist).

It's clear to hear BELP took a long time recording this album. Every note, synth, drum beat, is carefully placed. But what the album might lack on spontaneity it more than compensates this with its sheer musical beauty. This also reflects on the abstract sleeve, like 'Elephants' designed by BELP himself.

Enjoy this album on big speakers, as background music or simply on headphones. There will always be new sounds and layers to be discovered!

Bill Laswell / Nicholas James Bullen - Bass Terror

This recording is the dark side of Bill Laswell at the peak of his art in 1995. He goes into a black trance. The piece is not from a collaboration, it was designed alone, in his studio in Brooklyn. Bass Terror Tetragrammaton is also to be linked to an alchemical process. Nocturnal Crawl is a totally hypnotic piece, the first that Nik Bullen designed outside of Napalm Death and Scorn. The two pieces answer each other strangely, like two sides of the same hidden anxiety.

The concept of this series was the confrontation of electric guitars as the tutelary instrument, but here and this time only, it came out of bassists confronting each other.

Kevin Murning - Mode's Arp

Kevin Murning is a musician, producer and DJ from Cape Town, South Africa. He describes his music as fake jazz, probably because he dropped out of jazz school. At 23 years old, Kevin's music is youthful yet precise and his debut EP offers an intriguing cross-section into his varied musical experience to date. The release comes out via Cape Town based imprint, Quit Safari, home to some of SA's most exciting producers.

Kevin's debut comes in the form of a 5-track EP called Mode's Arp. Comprised of 3 originals and 2 remixes, the release serves as a dual functional one with tracks for home and club use. Taking 2 years to fully complete, Mode's Arp is a wonderfully considered body of work and speaks volumes about Kevin's talent and his ability to create music that is beautiful and banging. Both Kevin and Quit Safari label head, Zanasi Wifi, are on remix duty for the EP, taking the originals and recontextualising them into high octane percussive workouts.

Graphical Recordings presents Distorted Tourist, a major new work by Mark Templeton. Distorted Tourist is the visual, auditory, and textual travelogue of journeys through five manufactured and reclaimed landscapes. The book contains five one-sided flexi disc records with compositions corresponding to five apocryphal places.

Stemming from routine drives across industrial-commercial areas near the artist's neighborhood, each photograph captures, mid-fall, the familiar and uncanny spaces of dislocated urban decay — monuments to the failures of modernity. Rather than attractions, the tourist here bears witness to the inevitability of moths and rust.

Each location is captured sonically in augmented field recordings, a soundtrack haunted by deceased materials and dying matter. Templeton's signature compositional characteristics — faraway melodies, recurrent phrases, ruined echoes — evoke a cyclical trajectory toward Distorted Tourist's center, the concentric spiral of a record, a voyage on misremembered roads into the middle.

Accompanying journal entries written by the author Ryan Diduck summon the hallucinatory diary of a Herzogian quest against reverse rotation. Photos and text appear to form and deform on the page. Together, the manuscript, sounds, and photographs represent an impossible portrayal, an audio-optical illusion, the roadmap to an eerie expedition that is at once unreal and urgent.

With audio mastered by Giuseppe Ielasi and graphic design by Dmytro Nikolaienko, Distorted Tourist is an outstanding volume that gathers up Templeton's adroit sound production, original eye, and curatorial cunning into a beautiful object to be puzzled over.

TWIN TRIBES - SHADOWS LP

Twin Tribes is a dark synth duo based in Brownsville, Texas. Formed by Luis Navarro (vocals, guitar, synths, drum machines) and Joel Niño, Jr. (bass, synths, vocals) in 2017. They gather their influences from the dark side of the 80s. Darkwave, post-punk and cold wave are only some of the genres that the band summons using analogue synthesizers and drum machines, bass and guitar. Dark melodic sounds, lyrics of the undead, the occult and parallel universes are what conjure Twin Tribes.
SHADOWS is Twin Tribes' debut album. Dreamy synth waves and vocals, guitars drowned in vintage analogue chorus, astral-like instrumentals are some of the sounds you will find in its 9 tracks. Clearly inspired and influenced by the dark side of the 80s and very specially by the 1982 movie 'The Dark Crystal', but SHADOWS is an entity of its own. Vampires, witches and other dimensions are only specks of darkness you will meet while listening to its haunting sound. For our vinyl release we have made a specific master from the original mixes and created an all-new artwork and band logo.We are proud to present SHADOWS in a limited, hand numbered edition, housed in a matt finish b&w/silver pantone sleeve including a double sided insert and download code.

Steven Julien - Bloodline

The new release features 6 tracks and follows Julien's critically acclaimed debut album, Fallen. Released in 2016, the autobiographical LP was a bold new direction for Julien, and the first release under his birth name. Over the years, the Apron Records boss' bold, experimental electronics, jagged club cuts and outside-the-box collaborations have seen him carve out a lane all of his own making. His debut LP was divided into two musically contrasting sides, and told the tale of a fallen angel though jazz-fusion, chiming soundscapes and dark acid-tinged techno.

Since his album release, Julien has continued his creative streak by playing across the globe, from Tokyo, Seoul and Shanghai to Montreal and Melbourne, and further developing his label, which released a string of underground 12's in 2017 from the likes of Max Graef, Hanna, Molinaro and more.

On 'Bloodline', Steven continues the soundtrack style mood of 'Fallen' - channeling ominous analog techno, drifting synth-house masterpieces, warm soul and hints of new age. Both the title and artwork is a nod to the influence of Julien's family on his rich musical world and distinct nonconformist style, explaining how: 'the influence my family has given me growing up and my ancestors from Africa to native Indians from the Caribbean, has all played a big part in the music I create.'

Recorded in Apron Studios based in East London, each track on 'Bloodline' also features a tr808 or a piece of a 808, as a dedication to the iconic Japanese engineer Ikutaro Kakehashi, who passed away April 2017. The much-loved Roland founder and TR-808 creator revolutionised electronic music in the 1980s and 90s.

He Has Worked Within The Fields Of Electronic And Experimental Music For Over 35 Years, Collaborating With The Likes Of Current 93, The Hafler Trio, Organum, Andrew Chalk, And Most Notably As A Key Part Of Nurse With Wound Alongside Steven Stapleton. Bruno Pronsato & L.A. Teen - A Face Wasted On The Theatre

BRUNO PRONSATO returns with his new album, A FACE WASTED ON THE THEATRE, written & produced in collaboration with the Israeli musician, YONATAN LEVI. PRONSATO and LEVI have been collaborating intermittently since 2014, with LEVI adding bass guitar to tracks on both PRONSATO's US Drag LP from last year and 2016's NDF EP, Cruel Is The Color, as well as contrabass on a track on PRONSATO's Archangel LP from 2014. Written in the afternoons and between two different studios in Berlin's Prenzlauer Berg, the album spans eight tracks, with YONATAN LEVI playing on bass guitar on six of them. It also features guest appearances by downtown composer/producer PETER GORDON and Israeli saxophonist YONATAN YUDKOWITZ on Bring Me A Kill.'

BRUNO PRONSATO (aka Steven Ford) has been subverting expectations within techno and house's upper echelons since 2003. A former speed-metal drummer with a serious appreciation for 12-tone composers, he moved to Berlin to focus on music full-time in 2005, and captured the attention of the electronic music world with his redefining Why Can't We Be Like Us LP from 2008, receiving a 5/5 review from RESIDENT ADVISOR along the way. This was followed up with Lovers Do in 2011, dubbed a massive and striking statement' by PITCHFORK in their 8.1/10 review. After a six year-hiatus, he released the rejuvenated US Drag LP in June 2017, with RESIDENT ADVISOR commenting that the album was a fresh perspective on Bruno Pronsato that keeps intact the best aspects of his music, proving that Ford's singular project still has a lot left to give.' Pronsato is also a member of HALF HAWAII with PANORAMA BAR resident and ex-PANTYTEC member, SAMMY DEE-they release mainly on PERLON. His 2010 collaboration with SERGIO GIORGINI (of BENOIT & SERGIO) as NDF (on DFA) was hailed as one of the 'tracks of the decade so far' by PITCHFORK in 2015. PRONSATO was also a member of the electronic supergroup, NAROD NIKI alongside RICARDO VILLALOBOS, RICHIE HAWTIN, DANIEL BELL, AKUFEN, LUCIANO, DIMBIMAN etc, and he also co-produced ELLEN ALLIEN's 2013 LP, LiSm.

YONATAN LEVI aka L.A Teen is a 31-year-old musician born in Tel-Aviv, Israel. Displaying musical tendencies since infancy, he studied at a school of arts between ages 6-16, growing within the music department. He began classical guitar training at the age of 7 and finished his studies as a music major. At age 13 he was awarded a scholarship for classical stand up bass studies from the Israeli Conservatory of Music in Tel Aviv. By age 16, he was honored a full scholarship to the prestigious Berkley College of Music. In 2006 he moved to New York City and immersed himself in the New York Jazz world, playing alongside numerous celebrated musicians including FRANK WESS, BEN DIXON, EDDIE HENDERSON, HARRY WHITAKER and "Killer" RAY APPLETON and DONALD HARRISON.

He has recorded a quartet album alongside WILLIE JONES III, AARON GOLDBERG and OFER GANOR and is featured in OFER GANOR's album "Miles Away", starring the legendary drummer JIMMY COBB. COBB chose Levi to accompany him in his Japan tour as a part of the world renowned JIMMY COBB QUARTET. Yonatan Levi is currently based in Berlin, Germany, but is constantly on the road between Europe, the US and Israel.

weaving a poly-phonic tapestry of future bass, jazz and field recordings. The LP's title track tells hard truths from the mind of spoken word artist Tenesha The Wordsmith. From dystopian roots, the beat marabout Khalab has led his assembly of messengers to invoke this myth of cathartic liberation. 'Black Noise 2084' opens a portal where displaced rhythms, chants, screams and dreams collide with quaking bass, a vortex of shattering synths, jazz rains and emotion all amalgamate. Empires for millennia thrived across the African continent and Empires are being willed to rise. As Khalab draws the LP to a close he brings light with 'Dawn' ft Moses Boyd. A dawn firmly squared-up by its past, hard truths of a barbaric history embarking on the beginning of reconciliation. Drum beats usher in the arrival home for a new glory. 2084 a time when rhythms have shed the cargo of their haunted odyssey. Michael Stearns - Planetary Unfolding (reissue)

"Emotional Rescue is honoured to reissue the benchmark in new age ambient music, Michael Stearns epic Planetary Unfolding album. Out of press on vinyl for over 30 years, here is Stearns masterful electronic symphony in 6 movements, recorded using his Serge modular synthesizer at the Continuum Studio in 1981.
The culmination of years of exploration in "space" music, Stearns journey, to the album's release, was one of learning and application. Involved in music since his teens, he graduated from guitar bands in the late 60s to an increasing interest in the principles of electronic music synthesis and the physics of musical instruments. He moved from Tucson, Arizona to Los Angeles in 1975 where he performed live during movement meditation classes at the Continuum Studio. He released his first cassette album in 1977 before going on to record 7 albums during this formative period. With Planetary Unfolding, the musical ideas that Michael performed on the Serge developed into this 52-minute masterpiece of music, six movements, three on each side of the LP. Based on the idea that the universe is made of sound held together through resonance, where atoms, cells, oceans, plants, animals and humans, all are part of a complex orchestration - the Earth as a being of sound. Having first approached Michael in 2013, his uncertain response that the album could be rereleased in a way that the music would be given justice via vinyl, the idea was never forgotten. Gaining discovery, appraisal and prominence when "As The Earth Kissed The Moon" appeared in edited form on the "I Am The Centre" box set from Light In The Attic, this excellent window into the world of Private issue new age music, superbly compiled by Douglas McGowan, further increased the interest in Michael's and others, such as Laraaji, music. With the likes of Matthewdavid's Leaving Records and Jonny Nash's Melody As Truth pushing the ambient curve beyond a post club, chill out fad, classic albums can rightly sit alongside this 'new age of the new age', so that ambient music again has a gravity and place of it's own. This specially re-mastered version by Bob Ohllson features the original artwork by Leilani Bost, liner notes by long-term friend and fellow musician, Gary David, as well as the photography of Ron Peterson, together bringing this wonderful album to life once again. e

Victoria Keddie - Cannibal Mécanique

Cannibal Mécanique is an electronic soundtrack by NY based audio-visual artist, Victoria Keddie. Originally composed as part of an immersive live experience incorporating analog video feedback and choreography, for ICM013, the audio component of Cannibal Mécanique has been revised and revisited for a limited edition lathe-cut 7" record.

Each of the 50 copies is individually hand cut at 33 1/3 rpm on transparent polycarbonate plastic using a Presto 6N lathe from the 1940s and is accompanied with a printed transparent insert, housed in a custom PVC sleeve.

Victoria Keddie is an artist working in sound, video, and transmission. Her focus involves analog signal generation and manipulation, the performing body, and relationships of space. For five years, she has been Co-Director of E.S.P. TV, a nomadic TV studio that hybridizes technologies to realize synthetic environments and deconstruct the televisual for live performance. In early 2016, Keddie launched UNIT 11, a mobile transmission based residency operated within and involving an ENG news van. Site specific field work involves concentrated energy fields, fluctuating electronic activity, geographical discontinuity, and time sensitivity.

She has performed and exhibited internationally at venues and festivals such as The Swiss Institute, The Kitchen, Museum of Moving Image, Queens Museum of Art, and Anthology Film Archives (NYC), Human Resources (Los Angeles), Lightcone, (Paris), Studio XX (Montreal), LOOP Festival (Barcelona), Pallas Projects (Dublin), Reykjavik Arts Festival (Reykjavik), General Public (Berlin), Axis Art Centre (Crew), The Independent Film Festival (Naples), Liste Art Fair (Basel), Seeing Sound Festival (Bath), and Daimon (Gatineau). With her project, E.S.P. TV, she has been artist-in-residence at Pioneer Works, Storefront for Art and Architecture, and the Museum of Arts and Design.

The prolific Sardinian producer Saffronkeira adds a detached, ephemeral and otherworldly piece and master of techno hymns. Moa Pillar contributes a horror-drone remix of «Quicksilver Spoon». For those who want to dance there is Monokle - an eclectic musician from Saint Petersburg - decomposing «Meduse» into a bassy club track. The Siberian dark lord of modular synthesizers Hmot totally deconstructs «Oscar» and literally distills all the piercing dramatic effect from the track, while an emotional and powerful piece by John Lemke, gloomy, affective and catchy, closes the remix album.

The new record of TERRITOIRE presents the story of the slave Alix from his birth as a submissive being until the encounter with his first owners. Project from the french producer and composer Olivier Arson, TERRITOIRE has published three different records with each other: Mandorle (2012), for which they played at Sónar Barcelona, Mandorle - Versions (2014), with remixes from artists like Aidan Baker and Father Murphy, and Confess (2016), an experiment from a sound installation based on the confession ritual.

In constant motion and without a stable form, TERRITOIRE opens news tensions between electronic processes, experimental instrumentation and narrative fragments. It sculpts an experimental techno that expands across oppressive and cathartic rhythms, folds into physical drones, and explodes with mutant screams. An existential drift towards a broken horizon that hides his beauty and discovers, at last, on this latent limit, a disturbing and unknown light.

Soundwalk Collective - What We Leave Behind THE JEAN-LUC GODARD ARCHIVES

Audio-visual artists Soundwalk Collective were granted exclusive access to the personal archive of the groundbreaking filmmaker and present their ambitious New Album and Remix EP: What We Leave Behind released on 18th & 25th May 2018.

The NYC and Berlin based group were invited to aurally explore the archive of the seminal French director Jean-Luc Godard and release their interpretations in an innovative new album What We Leave Behind. Drawing on Godard's personal collection of shot film, reel- to-reels and historical ephemera, the recordings reveal the moments before and after the camera rolls, from stage directions and on-set asides to rehearsals, false stars and outtakes.

'There are boxes filled with sounds, words, chaos, and also silence. For Godard sound is a musical composition and when I began listening to the tapes and heard his voice between takes, it was like little bits of life...each sound has its own value. It has always been part of our working practice to venture into untapped sonic territories, discover the poetics behind them, and explore how we (as humans) relate to it, it is part of a larger discourse.' - Stephan Crasneancki, Soundwalk Collective

Revealing much insight to the director's process and personality, the 6-track album will be followed by a remix EP, featuring unique reworks from Ricardo Villalobos, Jan Jelinek and Petre Inspirescu.

What We Leave Behind, and the subsequent remix EP, arrive 50 years to the day that the the Cannes Film Festival, 1968, was closed after Jean-Luc Godard, Francois Truffaut and Claude Lelouche, publicly announced their closing of the festival in solidarity with workers and students protesting across the country.

The LP features a conversation between Stephan Crasneanscki, of Soundwalk Collective, and Franc¸ois Musy, Jean-Luc Godard's sound engineer, printed on a translucent paper insert. The LP and Remix EP both contain imagery taken by Stephan Crasneanscki of the archives, which he has also filmed to create a series of mesmeric short music videos of original and remix tracks.

An international genre-bending group of artist-musicians with studios in New York City and Berlin, the three members of Soundwalk Collective (Stephan Crasneanscki, Simone Merli, and Kamran Sadeghi) formed in Manhattan to produce concept albums, sound installations, and live performances, and have worked with a diverse range of collaborators, from Nan Goldin and Patti Smith to Berghain and Zaha Hadid.

When two icons of electronic music team up for a collaborative project, the result is destined to become something extraordinary. Suzanne Freytag, Brücken's co-vocalist in Propaganda, also collaborates on the song 'Sweet Sense (of) Liberation', the album's lead single. 'Beginn' - a work of electronic art that evokes a compelling and fascinating aesthetic at the same time as having mesmerisingly catchy pop moments. Extra Noir is a coldwave, minimal synth and post-punk soundtrack based in South Korea. This is the first of a series of compilations, featuring artists from the hosts' three most recent homes - Scotland, Korea and Texas. Available on digital and limited release vinyl. About the artists:
Aadm Our Hatley is a Texas-based multi-instrumentalist who has played in a long list of underground Austin acts, such as Red X Red M, Attack Formation, Those Peabodys and Bangaar. He currently plays guitar in Chamberlain Greene and drums in Boss Eye. Straddling the dank border between industrial and no wave, Glasgow duo Total Leatherette also brings pervy disco fetish to their sleazy brand of mutant music.
Kübler-Ross is one of the many aliases of Glasgow electronic producer / remixer Dave Clark. A versatile and prolific producer, Clark has worked with JD Twitch of Optimo as one half of the Optimo (Espacio) remix team, played guitar in Badalamentian blues band Big Ned, and has been recently recording synth-based solo tracks as Kübler-Ross.
Comprised of techno producer Seonggu de Kim and minimal ambient artist Eajik, Airy Textile is a synth duo originally based in Seoul, South Korea. Their contribution to Extra Noir Vol. 1 marks their first release on vinyl. Tengger are an electronic psychedelic duo from Seoul, South Korea, comprised of Itta (harmonium and vocals) and Marqido (modular synth).
Texan synth wizard Xander Harris is one of the most influential artists in the 'horror disco' genre, and has consistently delivered tense, garish and unflinching journeys into the darkest domains of dance music. This track, 'The Velvet Hand', is exclusive to Extra Noir Vol. 1. Pecht is the nom de plume of a Manchester-based solo artist who retreated to the wilds of northern Scotland after years in the London entertainment industry. His self-titled debut album was recorded during his exile on the north coast. 'unlock' is Pecht's first release on vinyl. Cucina Povera is the musical identity of Maria Rossi, a Glasgow musician and vocalist originally from Finland. She is a collaborator in Luxos with Daniel Magee of Lo Kindre, and a former DJ on Glasgow's Subcity Radio. Her debut LP, Hilja, was released in January 2018.
