Beat Detectives 'Heavy Traffic' album is a composition that deals with ideas of cut and paste, duration, loose comedy, sharing, like shuffling through cards or flipping through folders. The original seed of the composition was a selection of recordings more or less randomly tracked to tape in a series, along with many warped and fragmented rhythms from the 56 bog beat lab. From dive bar to record label, Paradise Palms' fifth release is a follow up instalment to its debut compilation LP, 'Bonnie Tropical'. Franco Battiato is often heralded as Italy's answer to Brian Eno. A quizzical composer/lyricist, Battiato turned pop music upside down in the early '70s with three classic LPs - Fetus, Pollution and Sulle Corde Di Aries - that formed a confluence of avant-folk sensibilities and analog electronics.

Originally released in 1971 on Bla Bla, Fetus predated the prodigious Cramps and Multhipla catalogues to become one of the first electronic records produced in Italy. With his trusted VCS3 synthesizer, Battiato created primordial soundscapes that shift between dreamy and delirious. His unsentimental, yet evocative voice - combined with a sublimely detached approach to lyrics - spawned a new breed of divergent songwriting.

Fetus, a concept album exploring themes of genetic engineering, is enigmatically sub-titled "Ritorno al Mondo Nuovo" (Return to the New World) and dedicated to Aldous Huxley. While the sleeve design may have raised a few eyebrows upon its initial release, the back cover photograph of Battiato (standing defiant in dark glasses) makes the real iconoclastic statement.

Battiato's infectious melodies and innovative sound-collage techniques remain uniquely spry given that each track averages less than four minutes in length. Pink Floyd's Meddle, Os Mutantes' eponymous recordings and Jim O'Rourke's experimental-pop idiosyncrasies all find parallels to the curious beauty of Fetus.

Superior Viaduct is honored to present the first-time domestic release of Fetus on vinyl. Reproducing the original gatefold jacket, this reissue is part of an archival series that chronicles Franco Battiato's masterful body of work from 1971 to 1978.

Pollution from 1972 is the captivating follow-up to Fetus. Like its predecessor, the album features Baroque textures, motorik rhythms, weird tape effects and Battiato's perfectly oblique vocals. Upon hearing Pollution, Frank Zappa joyfully proclaimed it "genius."

While Battiato's core group of collaborators remains largely the same as on his debut, this phenomenal band (joined by an eighteen-year-old Roberto Cacciapaglia on keys) appears even more in the foreground on Pollution. Out of the Ash Ra Tempel-like riffs and urgent guitar strumming emerge hypnotic grooves and cinematic flourishes, suggesting a futuristic meeting point between Stereolab and Ennio Morricone.

Dedicated to the Centro Internazionale Studi Magnetici, Pollution touches on themes of environmental catastrophe. Futurist allusions seep in through eccentric lyrics (at times sung backwards) about hydraulics, magnetic fields, etc., yet listeners don't need to speak the artist's language to grasp his melancholy vision. With Pollution, Battiato solidifies not only his cult figure status, but also many of his forward-thinking ideas on rock 'n' roll.

IG Culture and Alex Phountzi are NameBrandSound and are back with their third EP on their own Arena Yard imprint. Known for their roles in the broken beat movement, NameBrandSound puts a nowadays take on a lifetime of different influences.

Their most comprehensive body of work today the seven track Spell T.H.I.S.O.N.E EP joins the dots between broken beat, juke, jazz, jungle and dancehall, from the grime jazz of Harvest Your Manor to the new school bruk style of Patience which features West London r'n'n sensation, Abel Miller, to the straight up juked style of the title track. Sam Kerridge launches a major rethink of his style with the high-velocity tempos and razor-toothed bite of The Silence Between Us.
Toiling somewhere between Ueno Masaaki's Vortices for Raster-Noton, the pitching pelt of La Peste for Hangars Liquides, and the machine convulsions of Somatic Responses, he goes balls-to-the-wall with the breakneck momentum of Possession/Control, harnessing reverse-edited kicks, helter-skelter EBM bass and spectrographic noise ghouls in a surge of searing rave energy.
Flipside, those knotty, strobing pulses keen thru empty stomach inversions and bursts of tangled EBM synths on Ascension, which is effectively a snappier edit of the A-side, whilst Radical Possibilities of Pleasure sounds like a field recording from a french hardtek invaded by dildo dibble in choppers and riot gear railing lasers against any unlucky dancers.

Shanghai/Taipei-based producer Tzusing returns with (In a Moment a Thousand Hits), continuing his exploration of the seamier side of life, his music mutates from industrial and EBM roots into stranger territories. Like the titular martial arts master of his recent LP, who can only achieve invincibility by denying his own masculinity, asks if obsessive pursuit of a specific identity can only lead to its negation, the opposite of the intended image. Amidst the malevolent throat singing samples, suona-like drones, and occasional shouts and howls in Taiwanese, the music's slamming percussive weight nods towards the most reviled forms of mainstream dance music. Treating every available tool as valid, Tzusing interrogates taste, constructed identity, and the desire for power through five tracks of destabilised funk and thundering processions.

For the second release in collaboration with ZCKR Records, Research and Waves present Artist Hannes Middelberg¥s installation-based sound piece Displacement. The translation of Middelberg¥s seemingly improvised, constantly rotating drawing machine onto the one-sided vinyl record makes the complexity of every automated circulation acoustically accessible.

The Intergalactic Research Institute for Sound presents DE, a compilation of various artists representing Georgian electronic and ambient music.
/ DE is a compilation of music from artists of different backgrounds getting together in order to showcase the dynamic influences within the Georgian scene.
Tbilisi is getting worldwide recognition at the moment for its booming club scene, but what this project aims to illustrate is what is happening outside of the club context.
Natalie Beridze who has been performing worldwide since 2004 is known as the first female electronic music artist in Georgia, Rezo Glonti has built his studio inside the hull of his boat, and Zesknel is a resident of the renowned Bassiani club, while MYI and Severiane were discovered thanks to Myspace, Soundcloud, and word-of-mouth. All these talents manage in their own ways to present / DE, with murky and melancholic cuts.
Melancholia is at the core of beauty in Georgia. That is not the case in Germany and many other cultures, where melancholia is often charged and bound to a negative feeling, which some might perceive as weakness. Consequently, one could be tempted to say that even if it's electronic music, DE has a traditional Georgian quality. But that would be putting art in boxes or cases — because what is Georgian art nowadays, when so many artists from this origin are scattered around As Giorgi Maisuradze states in his mission statement for DE, 'the world is their home'.

Astrophonica welcomes Lewis James to the fold with the Shapeshifter EP. A professional sound designer and life long musician, London-based Lewis James first appeared on the label via the Gradients compilation in early 2017. With this EP he celebrates his love of jungle and drum & bass across four tracks that combine analogue and digital processes to create what he calls, "a spaced out identity, somewhere between science fiction and the dancefloor."

The title track opens with a wide, cinematic and laid back feel -- floating arpeggios, processed guitars and bowed viol, effected vocals -- before living up to its name with a subtle switch towards tougher, rhythm driven movement. "Ferro" picks up the action further with an homage to the classic drum & bass formula of combining starkly different moods between the intro and the core of the track. Here it all begins with a bright, lush opening, a gradual walk into the light before descending into the pits of a smoky, 3am dancefloor with punchy breaks and a call and response between rubbery bass and grinding synth lines. Come back up for breath halfway through and then dive in again.

On the B side, "Your Love Is A Power" aims for the sweet spot between classic jungle rinse out and catchy, ear-worm pop. Built around a beautiful vocal performance from Dan Dans K, the track marries the energy of jungle -- the simplicity of an amen smashed over a reece bass -- with the emotional power of a top 40 pop song. It's simple but highly effective. The EP closes on a high note with "Turbo", a punishing beatdown of 808 drums and acid melodies with enough switches to keep the most adventurous of listeners of their toes.

With the Shapeshifter EP, Astrophonica continues its exploration of cosmic electronic music. All four tracks display the evident love Lewis James has for the possibilities offered by the 160-170 tempo alongside a fascinating attention to detail and an ear for brilliant, cinematic moments.

The latest outing on Will & Ink is a remix EP that finds Parisian producers Bambounou and Simo Cell team up for four reworked versions of Yaleesa Halls Woodall LP. Both artists are known for their releases on 50 Weapons, Livity Sound and Wisdom Teeth. Right here, on Will & Ink, two solo outings with another two collaborated remixes on the b-side showcase their dubbed out, stripped back and paranoid dark Parisian trademark sound. Their very specific sound sounds like little else and is a solid match with Yaleesa Hall and the Amsterdam imprint as this EP proves.

Autumns is the solo project of Christian Donaghey, from Derry, Northern Ireland. To date, Autumns has been responsible for a brace of singles, EPs and a Mini LP, appearing on Soft Power Records, CF Records, Regis' Downwards label and Glasgow's renowned operation Clan Destine. The project has also contributed to the Downwards label compilation The Immortal Eye and the second Phormix cassette collection Light Of Consciousness. 2017 sees the eagerly anticipated release of his debut full length record Suffocating Brothers. On Suffocating Brothers Autumns presents a resolute nine track culmination of the fierce audacity that has come to define and distinguish the project since an assured first emergence in 2013. Written and produced over the course of six months, between July and December 2016, it's an album that comes as a momentous and devastating fulfilment of what the Autumns project has outlined with increasingly ruthless intent over the last few years. Although the scuffed DIY garage and submerged shoegaze of the projects first major release - 2014's Terrible Tuesday Mini LP - signalled different inclinations to subsequent explorations, the seeds of a severe, tenacious and exhilarating signature were always present and correct. With Das Nichts and A Product of 30 Years of Violence - a quick-fire brace of EPs that arrived either side of 2016 - that signature became refined by an expansive murk and a robust (dys)functionalism. Prior familiarities were overhauled, the lo-fi disarray of before given a purposeful sense of authoritative intensity rooted in the rabid, seditious transmissions of noise music, the slam and discord of industrial and the insistent velocity of techno. These were the first seething indications that, buried beneath the smothered vocal urgency and deluges of distortion, was a synthetic surge and turbulence only rarely found in electronic music's more nefarious territories. Suffocating Brothers elaborates on all this with an eye for annihilation. Vocals reiterate like echo chamber death sentences, drum machines rattle and blister, clear-cut and sharp like broken glass, assaultive grinds of static and blasts of feedback suffuse it all like a ruptured maelstrom of FM interference. Yet with this harsh sense of ferocity and obliteration comes a reciprocal compulsion for action and release. 'I Never Noticed That You Left', 'No More Luxury' and 'Faceless' all tear into frantic, serrated analogue rhythms surrounded by an anarchic chaos of corrupted noise, enshrouded voice and blistering percussion. At times, these moments resemble the corrosive acid of Phuture and Sleezy D if their more riotous trax were mired in the irrepressible machine abuse of Whitehouse and SPK. 'Female Model', 'Forgotten Hangings' and 'Limit Experience' on the other hand reveal the roots of Donaghey's initial inspirations, all shaped in different ways by a portentous strain of post-punk. Where 'Female Model' is sinister and stern, a jackbooted dub from the void - like a more desolate rendering of Public Image Ltd's 'Fodderstompf' - 'Forgotten Hangings' is Cabaret Voltaire's 'Photophobia' reinvigorated by a new voice and a cataclysmic vision, formed of metallic sirens, plundered voices and hails of climactic hiss. 'Limit Experience' is a more fixed agitation but no less caustic, a monochromatic psychedelia for the streets and back alleys you tend to avoid. Elsewhere and throughout, piercing, cavernous gusts of drone augment the disorder establishing an atmosphere which is at once stark and overwhelming. The overall effect is equivalent to an unrestrained assailment, a constant confrontation, a total siege. As a whole Suffocating Brothers is a record unified by an extraordinary depth and physicality that encourages favourable comparisons to the incendiary ends of post-punk, noise, industrial, techno, coldwave, dub and drone. Categorisations, however, are only the half of it. Ultimately these tracks transcend the constraints of any one specific association. They're the product of an ascendant few years and together they represent the project's most essential statement to date. Yet they're also a consolidation of what Autumns has done all along. To resent compliance and compromise, to spurn limits and restraint, to hunt ecstatic release through extremity. To keep kicking against the pricks.

UK duo Conduct, (AKA Robin Andrews & Chris Edwards), unveil their brand-new 12-track LP 'Oma'.

Following their critically acclaimed 2016 debut album, 'Borderlands', which was nominated for 'Best Album' in DJ Mag's annual awards, Conduct's highly-anticipated second major work is set to drop on 13th October via Blu Mar Ten Music.

'Oma' is an immense piece of work, taking its sonic cues from 'Borderlands' while expanding them into far wilder territories. Organic clashes with electronic in a whirlpool of tribal head banging, fragile introspection and beautiful sonic architecture. Skittering rhythms, rock solid basses, angelic vocals and heartbreaking instrumentation are guaranteed to make 'Oma' one of the most notable drum & bass albums of 2017 and Conduct one of its prominent acts.

Striving to show the world what can be achieved at 170 beats per minute, Conduct's palette is a dramatic juxtaposition between electronic and acoustic instrumentation, with a cinematic approach to composition influenced by the likes of Hans Zimmer and Jesper Kyd. While it's common for drum & bass producers to concentrate on dance-floor impact, Conduct's primary focus is the evocation of an emotional response in the listener, creating a body of work that lasts far beyond the club.

Between them, Conduct have a rich and diverse musical history, from playing live in extreme metal, be-bop and jazz bands, to the delicate nuances of digital sound design. This tapestry of experience is reflected not only in their studio production but also in their dynamic, widescreen DJ sets, which range from the sub sonically deep to the beautifully soulful and the fearsomely technical. These skills have recently seen them shell down venues across the UK and Europe including fabric's legendary Room 1 alongside Friction, Netsky & Loadstar.

'Oma', is set to make its mark as this year's quintessential drum & bass album and will be available on vinyl, CD, download and streaming, 13th October 2017.

France is the trio of Jeremie Sauvage on electric bass, Mathieu Tilly on drums and Yann Gourdon on amplified hurdy-gurdy. They play one note / one rhythm producing energetic performances reminiscent of the early collaborations between Faust and Tony Conrad. Creativly recycled influences result in intense shows with pounding overtones and repetitive pulsing rhythms. Loud straight and trance-inducing.

The pertinency of the recordings only slowly appear On Occitanie" in the mass of sound, the rhythmic repetition and the elongated drones. The hurdy-gurdy forces you deeper, highlighting points of microtonal flux, cracking open the single note, the nodding rhythm, to imply the presence of every note, every sound, inside it. The insensible evolution, lurks in a corner of noise and finally imposes itself slowly on careful listening.

The band members of France perform in various other projects: Tanz Mein Herz, Toad and Jérico, all are member of the collective La Novià, an organisation based in Haute-Loire which brings together professional musicians and is a place for reflection and experimentation around traditional and / or experimental music.

In 2009, France was invited to play in Pau, a city far south-west of France, next to spain, by the people running Pagans Musica, a like-minded traditionnal-oriented group of people, also bent on educational issues concerning the local music and dialect: Occitan and on fusioning traditional musics and rock related sounds and instruments. They had set up a show for France and their band Artus and originaly wanted to have Acid Mother's Temple join the bill. The japanese band had done versions of songs coming from their village (eg. "La Nòvia") but weren't touring near France so instead they invited Duo Ancelin Rouzier as the third act, a band both Artus and France were also very fond of.

Pagans had everything set-up for the concert to be recorded and as France had plenty of time for sound-check, they went on to record the Pau" album in the afternoon, taking a thirty seconds pause in the middle of the session so as to mark both sides of the vinyl. The Occitanie Lp is the recording of the live set later that night, with no cut and a longer, more savage performance.

Helmut Kaplan is multimedia artist that belongs to distinctive art scene of styrian capital of Graz. His medium of expression belongs to visual arts (mostly comic), as part of Tonto association, which once included legendary record label with artists that are already seen on GOD rooster (Robert Lepenik, Winfried Ritsch, Kauders, Bernhard Lang, Peter Ablinger). He was part of bands like Fleischpost and skin and since middle '90s he is interested in different loop structures through different media (records, cassette players and mixing desk and finally with computer).

17 Stücke is final part of the "trilogy" with this form of compositional technique (between releases Whistle On Carpet and Wave Mash Target on tonto label). Created after trip to Chicago in 2000/2001, these mostly MONO pieces, are built from a group of 7 subjects that are extended to 17. Sound material consists of low-fi loops from different sources like environment, instruments, orchestras and synthesizers...

Recorded with a modest hardware setup in Geneva - one drum machine, a few synths, a sampler, plus effects - the ten miniatures on LEVELS' debut S/T are nonetheless dense in atmosphere and mood, often immensely beautiful beyond their means. As suggested by the project's name, each track has the feel of a new level on a video game, a new environment to explore, to feel around for new clues, and ultimately to conquer. Referencing classic anime, movie, and videogame scores, LEVELS' willfully minimal sound palette is designed to give the listener a cinematic sensation. The sparser and more lo-fi sounds on side A have the listener tentatively exploring futuristic new spaces, wandering hallways of ambient beds and kick drum heartbeats. However, the busier rhythms and crisper melodies of the second side tell of the action that happens next, picking up the pace for keyboard-heavy chases, drum machine action sequences, and some gorgeously redemptive emotional peaks.

By restricting myself, I feel like I'm connecting with a larger arc of producers throughout time,' explains Leo Maymind. People who were crammed into a corner of their bedroom with headphones on while the rest of the world was out gallivanting.'

Following nearly a decade entrenched into the Brooklyn DIY scene, a move to Los Angeles signalled a change in approach for Maymind, limiting his gear to a small tabletop hardware setup, sometimes as little as a single drum machine and a rackmount effects unit. Illumina is Maymind's first full length release since this change of location and approach, focusing in on the liminal and transitional moments within the musical spectrum. The limited timbres across Illumina shift and evolve before your ears, each track unfolding at its own pace. Sometimes they reach a resolution, other times simply fading off into the ether.

I think the commodification of music and having streaming available at all times has made listeners very impatient,' says Maymind, even when it comes to ambient or drone music.' Illumina battles against this, the deep buried rhythms consistently getting disrupted by stray new percussive notes, or the gently sketched melodies getting spliced overhead, mutating into new textures. Inspired in part by his own stuttering problem, this element of aleatory interruption informs Maymind's adroitly crafted minimalism on Illumina. I wanted to make music that mirrored life more closely,' says Maymind. Things cutting off sharply—life is full of twists and turns.'

Born in a cave in Bordeaux, Radiante Pourpre is one of the many children of Simple Music Experience, a collective and label floating somewherebetween Marseille, Paris and Bordeaux and which inexorably attracted to itself many outsider experimentalists from the French electronic scene for the past few years. Antinote is now reissuing a long out-of-print tape that the duo recorded in 2014 in Brussels' art space Komplot.

Alex & Léopold, the two halves of Radiante Pourpre, learned in some smoky basement how to give life to their own desolated mental landscapes - only populated by the ghostly figures of the likes of Muslimgauze and Genesis P-Orridge - and to merrily loose themselves into them during long sessions surrounded by Korg synths and cassette players. Ghostly, their music is indeed: by suffering the many manipulations that the two are applying to their huge collection of samples, these fragments of sonic material, little by little, loose their consistency to become nothing more than a faint reminder of their previous life, a dilapidated version of their past-self.


Manipulating the very essence of the sounds sampled, the duo is lurking on dub as well as industrial or musique concrète. By their multiple tape manipulations the two musicians reshape our world's map, as the whim takes them, fostering the most improbable meetings: faint synths crash themselves against a solid wall of Irakian percussions while Brazilian voices melt into field recordings of fearsome machineries.

Damon Carruesco departed his decade on bass with Chicago's minimalist fringe rockers Disappears in 2015, deciding experimental music more his thing and opting to pursue the bold sound of TüTH. Aiming to search out his own limits, potential, and abilities as an artist, the atmospheric sounds on Transgression are Carruesco's attempt to make atmospheric electronic music that exists outside of "the grid". Transgression draws from field recordings and hand-made sounds, taking key inspiration from brutalist architecture, the acousmatic music of Romanian composer Iancu Dumitrescu, and the passing of somebody very close to the artist. Throughout Transgression throbbing tones play out into cavernous otherworldly atmospheres, while bass demons collide with far icier synthesizers issuing moody melodic patterns. The references for this deeply abstract music are few and far between - the most fractured and sparse dub, Tangerine Dream's earliest primordial trips, György Ligeti's creaking galactic symphonies - so with Transgression, TüTH has appeared as his very own, unique, and fully fledged new voice.

Vakula has been a Dekmantel label member ever since the very early days. The Ukraine based producer now drops his album Cyclicality Between Procyon And Gomeisa on the label.
'This album is about cycles, repetition and interaction', says Vakula, whose Cyclicality between Procyon and Gomeisa is the third of a series of albums and reflects a dashing experimental record that evokes the endless and captivating potential of electronic music. It creates a mesmerizing journey through various music genres, exhibiting a singular sonic experience, whilst he works through a process of improvisation and refinement.
Once again the mastermind proves to be capable of creating complex, yet diverse musical pieces beyond genres and trends. The result: an audio adaptation of his fascinating mind. 'There are two parallel processes that come together in my work: me writing music and working on the sound I want to achieve, and the energy from outside that flows and transforms into thoughts, correlations, and actions.'

The track titles relate to the source of Vakula's inspiration and connect the dots between his obsession for the vastness of our universe and electronic music. ''To wonder about the universe and to dig into mythology and scientific research discovering at least some of its secrets is what keeps me endlessly motivated as a producer.''

The return of Brain Machine, with their Peaks album, was one of the highlights of last year for Emotional Response. Juan Tripp (aka Jon Tye of Seahawks), Guido Zen (Vactrol Park) and Kyle Martin's (Spectral Empire/Land Of Light/Vactrol Park) acclaimed kosmiche opus is followed up with 2 remix EPs featuring some of the best proponents, peers and friends of deep electronic music.
Remixes One is given over to a quartet of trusted hands including man of the moment, Tolouse Low Trax, ambient visionary Gigi Masin, afro-techno-dub specialist Harmonious Thelonious and stalwarts Ronny & Renzo.First Detlef Weinrich shows his mastery of a unique percussive sound that has seen his identity become as respected outside of his native Dusseldorf as he is in it for his role as one of the founders and curator of Salon des Amateurs. A brooding, propulsive culmination, the original's haunting ambience is retained for a subtle, driving rework that hits the mark.
Surprise of the EP is Gigi Masin's remix of Crystal Clouds. Eschewing the original's celestial soundscapes, scattered percussion interplays with sub-bass to change the context, giving a rhythmic dimension while retaining the shimmering guitar and arpeggio infused cohesion.Starting the B-side is another Dusseldorf elder statesman, in the afro-visions of Harmonious Thelonious. Solo, as well as one third of The Durian Brothers, Stefan Schwander, has carved a distinct sound. Chrematistic percussion is matched with an atmospheric, dub-techno feel that perfectly fits the EP. Play loud for full understanding.
Finally, Remixes One concludes with the return of Ronny & Renzo. Long time associates of Brain Machine, their 10 minutes plus remix takes the glacial original's ambience to a darker plain, fusing rhythmic pulses with alluding acid intent.

Tangerine Dream have been a fundamental influence on electronic and progressive music since their formation in West Berlin, 1967. Inspiring genres, musicians and other art forms, from The Future Sound of London to Porcupine

Tree, the widely popular TV show Stranger Things (for which their music also featured in) to seminal video game Grand Theft Auto V (for which they helped to write the soundtrack). The group have also received seven Grammy nominations, written over 100

studio albums and were led by Edgar Froese, who developed an instantly recognisable synth-based instrumental music based on a meditative musical experience that came to prominence in the 70's and 80's. 'Quantum Gate' promises an updated, contemporary development of their

trademark sound: sequencer-driven electronica covering a wide range of moods and atmospheres from ambient soundscapes to energetic, upbeat moments. The album began as a concept and series of musical sketches by Froese before he passed away in 2015. Remaining band members Thorsten

Quaeschning, Ulrich Schnauss and Hoshiko Yamane worked together to realize Edgar's visions and expectations of a conceptual album that attempts to translate quantum physics and philosophy into music. New member Ulrich Schnauss comments: at the moment hardly any other area of science questions

our concept of reality (linearity of time etc.) as profoundly as research in Quantum physics - it's no surprise therefore that Edgar was drawn to these ideas since he had always aimed at reminding listeners of the existence of 'unopened doors'.'

Jean-Louis Huhta (Dungeon Acid) and Ideal label head Joachim Nordwall unite once again as High Boys for an EP influenced by their love of old school acid, bad vibes, dub 7's, William S Burroughs and 80s industrial music.
The pair are already bandmates of sorts as part of the mighty Skull Defekts, but anyone familiar with Dungeon Acid's much sought after catalogue or Nordwall's sprawling, eclectic interests will no doubt already have their ears pricked for this one. The results are pretty much inline with what you'd expect: warehouse productions infused with all the grit and experimental determination you'd imagine.
Described by Nordwall as 'Claustrophobic industrial acid', there's a definite sense of dread permeating these tracks, situating them somewhere between the Nordic, gothic techno ambience of Varg and Mika Vainio's analogue prowess. It will be interesting to see what happens if these two put their minds together for a full length, but on the evidence presented here High Boys is a project well worth tuning into...

Munich's Martin Matiske started his recording career at fifteen with his stunning ep Stars & Galaxy for DJ Hell's Gigollo Records back in 2002. Here he dons 4 fresh tracks for the Vivod label with his trademark electro sound, somewhere between Dopplereffekt, classical & wave. Kicking off the ep is Die Nibelungen, a sort of speak & spell classical piece with an electro backing track. A2 - Bayerischer Wald is a chord heavy majestic bomb in a 5/4 time signature, maybe a stretch too far for the linear techno dj but that's what makes this ep so interesting. B2 - Virtuosic Mechanic harks back to his previous work on Gigollo Records, a more club orientated track which should do some effective damage on the floor. Rounding things off is Kammermusik, a subtle electro ballad. If you like your electro with a heavy classical influence then this is your ep.

Dazzling and invigorating, scary and discombobulating.Psychic driving was a psychiatric procedure in which patients were subjected to a continuously repeated audio message on a looped tape, in order to alter their behaviour... often hundreds of thousands of repetitions of a single statement over the course of their treatment. They were also concurrently administered muscular paralytic drugs such as curare... The psychic driving procedure was a chronological precursor to Cameron's depatterning, involving massive doses of ECT combined with similarly large doses of psychedelic drugs like LSD. The intent was to break down the subject's personality — theoretically psychic driving could then be used with some efficacy in establishing a new personality' (Hanson Records).
