My Dry Wet Mess - Laptop Lapdance Ep

Italian producer My Dry Wet Mess, aka Giovanni Civitenga, is a name that has resonated in the world of left field/beats since it's exciting fledgling years. Though his father is the bass player for Ennio Morricone's orchestra and a studio guitarist on numerous Italian records, from a young age Gio was drawn towards hip hop. At the age of 14, his father gave him a sampler and an Atari, and his beatmaking experiments grew boundless. Having released albums on Daedleus' Magical Properties imprint and Flying Lotus' Brainfeeder venture, it is a pleasure for Fine Grains to present the 'Laptop Lapdance EP' - his first vinyl release.

My Dry Wet Mess' unique sound is recognisable for it's multi-layered intricacy and offbeat charm. Skittering beats slide through surreal melodies and distorted vocals or keys. An uplifting and awkward dance-inducing experience often ensues. In 'Laptop Lapdance', Civitenga encapsulates these elements with four engrossing story-telling tracks. Remixes come from Hyperdub' Ikonika, Dam Mantle and Auntie Flo. The latter starting with a dreamy analogue rework of 'Nailed Scale', a gentle breezy groove with a plethora of subtle details peaking out from the undergrowth. If Auntie Flo's remix is a curious walk along the jungle path, Dam's Mantle's 'Nailed Scale' remix is head first into the depths. Dark and prowling, Mantle strips down the emotive elements to tribal claps and creepy background echoes. Stepping further into techno territory, Ikonika's 'Scenario Adjustment remix' highlights the metallic and futuristic elements of 'Eyelids' Secret'. A stomping mechanical rhythm goes for the jugular from start to finish. In her 'Shy' remix of the track, Ikonika wraps up with a beat-less cinematic twist. An epic and ethereal finish that could easily befit a futuristic sci-fi film score.

Support and airplay from Gilles Peterson, Tom Ravenscroft (BBC R6), B.Traits & Rob Da Bank (BBC R1)

Ishan Sound - Namkha

Ishan Sound

Namkha

12inchTEC077
Tectonic
12.05.2014

One half of Zhou and part of Bristol's Young Echo crew, Cris Ebdon aka Ishan Sound drops one very heavy slice of darkside dubstep purism for Tectonic's latest release. 'Namkha EP' features 3 cuts of a simply killer rhythm - appearing in it's original form; as the more dubwise 'NN Special' version, and finally, backed by a remix from Young Echo's most familiar face - the ever-excellent Kahn. 'Namkha' begins to the sound of pulsing electric, throbbing over a chilling melody, simple percussive hits counting you up to the break, before - WHAM - ground shaking subs pound in with that rhythm. It delivers a full body hit that takes you to the original heavy weight mediation space of dubstep-past. Dubwise variations come in the form of 'NN Special' and flip the plate to check Kahn's killer remix, giving it a darker, more grime-like twist. Words from Pinch:
"I first heard this track in a Bristol basement venue with the Young Echo crew at the controls of the soundsystem. I was already enjoying the deep vibes, hearing new sounds I found reminiscent of the early dubstep days (circa 2003-2005), when out of the blue this simple but outstanding rhythm drops... I lost my cool and rushed to the decks to find out what it was, as - to my ears anyway - it was one of the best dubstep tracks I'd heard in years. It turned out to be 'Namkha' by Ishan Sound and I'm now very proud to now host this release on Tectonic. Minimal excellence is one of the hardest things to achieve in music-making as it requires all the sonic
ingredients to be nothing less than perfect. They have to be as they are fully exposed; naked for the world to see. 'Namkha' is a great example of minimal excellence. Its few simple ingredients are perfectly formed and exemplify a fresh take on the early dubstep sound fell in love with 10 years ago."

Sigha - Living With Ghosts

After an outstanding pack of 12-inches for Scuba's Hotflush Recordings, London DJ and producer Sigha a.k.a James Shaw confidently returns to the label with his heavily anticipated debut LP, 'Living WIth Ghosts'. For this offering he presents twelve impressive techno and ambient productions and fuses his love of classic UK techno with the contemporary sound that currently pulses through Berlin's Berghain. Since his 2009 debut on the label, Sigha has organically shifted further and further into the straight 4/4 realm of techno, embracing the subterranean, darker soundscapes of his new production homebase, Berlin. However, hiding under all that bass, one can still hear the whisper of many long forgotten shoegaze numbers - My Bloody Valentine, Sonic Youth and Slowdive, some of Sigha's heaviest influences, vibrate throughout. Years of playing guitar in London bands defined Sigha's musical start and gave him an ear for the emotive. He was able to merge both worlds after quite literally stumbling across techno by chance, igniting his love of electronic music. Ever since, he's expertly navigated the halls of UK Garage and dub, releasing on Hotflush, Blueprint and his own fledgling imprint, Our Circular Sound, finely tuning his style, eventually landing squarely in a place where he feels most at home: techno. Kicking off the journey is the falsely pacifying and ethereal track 'Mirror', a brief lull before the onslaught of melodic sonic doom that is 'Living WIth Ghosts'. From the oscillating come-up dubbiness of 'Ascension' to the banging heavenliness that is 'Puritan', to the dripping wet, acid-licked 'Scene Couple', Sigha only comes up for ambient air on 'Suspension' before plunging back down for more. 'Dressing for Pleasure (Ideal)' and 'Dressing for Pleasure (Extract)' are both awash with the cold hallmark sounds of Regis, while the bleak, minimal surfaces of 'Delicate' and 'She Kills In Ecstasy' perfectly soundtrack the inescapable morning-after come-down, before 'Aokigahara' rounds off the album in an elegant soundscape. An additional track, 'Brood' will be released as limited vinyl-only 10, and will never see the digital light of day. Sigha has provided remixes for well-respected labels like CLR, Mikrowave, Metalheadz, Echocord, Steadfast and Sudden Drop, and maintains a very busy touring and production schedule. 'Living With Ghosts' will be given a full CD/vinyl/digital release on 19th November.

Swindle - Long Live The Jazz 2x12

DEEP MEDi are proud to announce Swindle's longplayer 'Long Live The Jazz'.
'This project has consumed my whole life over the last year and half and I'm over the moon to finally be able to share it! Deep Medi,
Butterz #LongLiveTheJazz'. The album delves into the increasingly blurred sounds of grime, dubstep, and bass music alongside
musical influences from artists such as George Clinton, Parliament Funkadelic and Roy Ayers. Purple synths, colourful vocoder work
(think Joker and Redinho) and growling basslines litter the album, with guest spots and collaborations from Nadia Suliman & Footsie,
The Milk, Terri Walker and Sam Frank sitting alongside Swindle's solo tracks. Even the toughest beats on the album are placed side
by side by delicate touches of funk and soul.
Swindle's rise to fame began as his releases on Planet Mu and his own Swindle Productions gained attention from Elijah & Skilliam,
who began to feature his music regularly on their Rinse FM radio show. A release on Butterz followed shortly after, leading to his
DEEP MEDi release 'Do The Jazz'.
Having now produced tracks for the likes of Roll Deep, Chipmunk, Professor Green and Asher D, co-producing with Toddla T and
Silkie and featuring on the Amy Winehouse 'Back To Black' tribute compilation, Swindle's also a regular on the DJ and radio circuit,
playing in clubs up and down the UK, Europe, America and South Africa whilst holding up a regular slot on Rinse FM. The album is
launched with Swindle's debut live show at Fire in June.

The last of the first is a powerful 140 grime influenced take on Pyramid Scheme's 'Eight Ball Model' delivered by Famous Eno on

Various - Footsteps In Tibet Ep

MUV009 hit's wax with 3 again very versatile cuts, one a piece from Versa, Label boss Demon, and NDread.
"Footsteps in Tibet" is another fine example of Versa'a ability to create intricate, emotive and though-provoking music. From the
offset, a stirring call washes over a fresh, tidal undercurrent, instantly taking you east . Brooding, smooth sub bass rolls and rises
effortlessy under almost Steve Gurley-esque, stuttering, cluttering, yet still spacious drum programming. Progression brings smooth
pads and echoed chords, interspersed with aqueous fluidity.
Demon takes charge on "Parachutes"; a popping, pulsing rhythmic workout. Filtered percussion builds over eerie stabs and pads,
raising tension before dropping into an energetic, futuristic roller, accelerated with pulsing sub bass movement. Crushed sinister
vocal snapshots lurk with spooky jabs and swerving synth shots. Headnod business.
The 3rd cut of MUV009 see's the ever invented NDread unleash a monstrous slab of heavyweight 140 with "Criminal". Crushed
percussion creeps forward, with filtered snarls sizzling between hits, before some west coast hip hop meets MUD madness thunders
into action. Twisting growls disperse over a punishing driven mid bass; a devastating low end punches through tough,
sledgehammer-hard drums. Vocal snippets bark, and Dread's precise edits keep up the pace.

Clearlight - Circular Thinking Ep

UKBass Music Blog - Continuing to forge a path paved with experimental sounds, and having already released tracks from D-Operation Drop, Geode, Perverse, Gantz, Prism & Ipman to name a few - Subaltern Records up the levels again with their forthcoming 4th release by Belgian producer Clearlight (previous releases on Redshift One and Tribe12) who has crafted 2 thoughtful and spellbinding tracks and Finnish badman LAS adds his take on 'Circular Thinking' and the dreamy brilliance of Digital Bonus 'Muddy' complete a staggeringly good release!
* Subaltern Records is a label which supports quality Bass Music, with support from the likes of Vivek, N-Type, BunZer0, Syte, DJ Foster, Bakir. The label hosts a fortnightly radio show on award-winning online radio station Sub.fm (Subaltern Radio every 2nd Thursday 2-4PM GMT), and is constantly busy running popular label nights across the UK and EU.
* Belgian Producer Clearlight provides three examples of experimental, meditative yet bass-heavy and dancefloor suitable tracks.
* Circular Thinking is a tribal track with a shamanic feel. The incessant triplets drum groove and the multitude of organic elements and sound FXs takes the listener through a journey, topped by a sinister psychedelic vocal sample.
* Jata retains the tribal feel while fusing Reggae and Dub influenced horns and samples. The driving percussion beat vanishes throughout the breakdown, and unpredictably evolves into a oneiric carillon-lead outro.
* Finnish prodigy and new System Music signing LAS re-thinks Circular Thinking into a syncopated dancefloor weapon, with pumping subs and added atmospherics which provide a totally different interpretation on the original feel.
*Digital Bonus Muddy is an introspective piece which shows Clearlight's talent in a different form. The organic sounds and psychedelic feel of the track makes you feel like 'playing tennis in the Jungle' while having to watch out for dangerous creatures.

Vladislav Delay meets Finnish Twwth on the fourth drop from his eponymous imprint. Both tracks were galvanized from the sessions laid down by the duo at Ripatti's studio, making for some of the most forward, rugged gear in either's arsenal. The A-side is strobing, hyper-kinetic realignment of Chicago Footwork factored with sculpted subbass propulsion, fibrillating percussion and bleak, Carpenter- esque pads. The B-side brings the funk in a different style, percolating skittish hi-hats and hydraulic subs with the kind of polymetric momentum that could tie Storyboard P in knots. Daat - Fridge / Apache

DAAT, Montreal's most dynamic musical duo, return to the fold with another slice of futuristic sonic soundscaping. Representing the next step in the evolution of their own Detuned Transmissions imprint, both 'Fridge' and 'Apache' take us deeper than ever before into DAAT's world.
A tantalising preview of DAAT's long-awaited HVAC LP later in 2014.

True to its namesake, 'Fridge' isn't moving an inch for anyone. Obnoxiously aggressive and all the better for it, the disruptive bass tones and mechanical yearnings of the track cast a despotic shadow that cannot be ignored.

'Apache' is the music from the opening scene of the greatest cyberpunk film that never was. Cast aside any pretenders, DAAT have sent another
transmission from the not-so-distant future, and the outlook is bleak. For those that believe in music beyond the dancefloor, this is for you.

Mock The Zuma - Replicators (ep)

With a genuine evolution since the first release for Fullfrigde two years back, the young prodigy Mock The Zuma returns with a new EP

which is a like taking a breathless dive into an extraordinary world of rhythms and sounds. Dreamlike futuristic soundtracks straight

from urban Mexico 2028, revisited through the prism of the new worldwide bass music (grime , post- dubstep, future garage ... ), a cross

-border musical fantasy, which paradoxically wouldn't look out of place on the five continent's most cutting-edge dance-floors.

Powerful hymns with immediate seduction potential, yet sufficiently complex to last over time, the memorizing Yonke Sounds and

Sedativos found as an opening tracks on each side of the EP, somehow constitute like the foundation stones, while the more

experimental Selune Diskport and Riptide Streets, allow to push the exploring of unusual dark and captivating climates just one step

further. Finally, when taken all together, this Replicators EP imposes as one of the Fullfridge Music catalog's masterpieces, respectful

of what has been before but sufficiently audacious to open new peripheral byways, that will -and we place the bet- not fail to impress.

Two stunning remixes from Fabiola coupled with the much praised All-stars Live version of "Ronco Da Cuica" make this a package to be reckoned with. "Ronco" captures the live band in full flight with telling contributions from Finn Peters (sax) , Diabel Cissokho (kora) and Jandira Silva and Floetic Lara (vocals/rap), supported by everyone from Gilles Peterson to Shuya Okino, "Ronco Da Cuica" is oranic club music at it's most energetic and exciting. Perfect sonics, rolling bass, beats and sublime keys lift Mayra's plaintive vocal for the dance-floor; deep but accessible, smooth but still funky, this is pedigree House music for 2014. Finally Drumagick work their wizardry in the timeless Brazilian drum and bass style on "Deixa". maintaining all the charm and subtle swing of Jandira Silva's vocal but double timing the beats, changing the bass, and adding some of their own instrumental flourishes they make this as classic as anything in this fertile sub-genre. Formally Unknown - Untitled

'Untitled' opens up, building behind a gently reverberated 4/4 kick and interchanging hat sequences. Hypnotic, off-kilter samples and subtle flecks of acid generate a brooding and purposeful tone as a sense pressure builds throughout.

'Tribalz' steadily grows with space echo tails drifting in amongst full and tenebrous pads. A brash and busy 2-step rhythm emerges as an overdriven kick sticks wood-blocks and cowbells to the floor. In a manner akin to the likes of Joe and Blawan, rattling rhythms are mapped across all corners of the mix with imperious accuracy.

Dub To Me is a record with powerful dub roots, recorded with the collaboration of Ferdinando Masi (Casino Royale, Blue Beaters) and Cato Senatore (Africa Unite, Blue Beaters), certainly two of the best Italian reggae musicians. Ezra takes cue from the genre masters (King Tubby, Lee Scratch Perry, Mad Professor, Tappa Zukie, Prince Far I) to create an ideal soundtrack for a hypothetic interstellar voyage. Electronics mix with acoustic instruments and recording studio experimentation. Piano strings played with hands, percussions and noises mix with synthesizers and a massive use of effects. Broken rhythms and constantly evolving structures push Dub To Me away from the classic canons of the genre making it always original and brave. The friendship with Howie B whom Ezra met during the recording of Reale with Casino Royale, has lead to the remix of the piece titled Hypercompact Stellar System.

Logos - Cold Mission

Cold Mission is the debut album from east London-based producer Logos: it features fellow producers Mumdance, Dusk + Blackdown and Rabit. That Logos is member of two emerging underground collectives - new school grime specialists Boxed and the Keysound Recordings' 130bpm family - it gives you a rough sense of his whereabouts. At the first flickers of the album intro Ex101, you begin to sense the scope and scale of Logos' 'Mission.' His modus operandi is twin strike of connection and disconnection: he lurks in the spaces between places, both literally - down badly lit Eastend back streets - and figuratively, swerving between established musical nodes with the mission of finding new ones. It's suspended in the tension between then, now and what's to come. In simpler terms: Logos is a junglist but this is not a jungle album. He's a grime head but this is not a grime long player. This is an excursion in the dissolutions of forms and edges; of the elongation of patterns into repetitive plateaus of intensity. The album bristles with tension: for the 'Cold...' component it is like he dissolved the intros of a thousand darkside jungle 12's and dripped them into his analog hardware. The album features Keysound Recordings label bosses Dusk + Blackdown on the UKG exoskeleton 'Alien Shapes,' while eski excursionist Rabit collaborates on 'Swarming.' In 2013 Logos has formed a fruitful production partnership with Mumdance and their hyper-intense 'Wut It Do' features on the album, following their anthemic but paradoxical Keysound releases 'In Reverse' and 'In Reverse PIV'. Logos's 2012 'Kowloon EP' was recently lauded by Fact Magazine as 'year zero' and 'the catalyst' for a talented new wave of grime-inspired producers. Alongside artists like Beneath, Wen, Visionist, E.m.m.a., Moleskin and Etch, Logos forms part of a new wave sonically exploring the 130bpm space and finding life and creativity again in edgy 'London retro futuristic music.

Compa - Outer Lines / Timelapse

TUBA presents our seventh release with a lesson in deep UK bass from Compa; and represents our continuing efforts to foster the bridge between the US and UK deep dubstep scenes.
Outer Lines presents with a compelling blend of texture, atmosphere, and melody. The introduction builds to a shuddering, pulsing bass heavy drop with heavy percussive accents. A growling sub and driving beat provide the framework for distant flutes and jagged congas to carry the listener deeper into
a defining dose of what bass music truly is.Timelapse opens with a quirky yet edgy synth riff that leads into a buzzing texture of deep bass. Analog synthesizers deliver the rest of the message
as their rich textures and lines tell an epic, dark, and emotional story.
Compa: Following his debut appearance on Get Darker TV
in March 2011, Compa released his inaugural 12inch single with one of Dubstep's foundation imprints Boka Records (Tracks 'Sentence' and 'Beginning'), and his infamous bootleg of Mavado's 'Dem A Talk' on his own vinyl-only WX/WL imprint, and at the tender age of just 21, he's been newly signed to Mala's Deep Medi label and New York's deep bass label TUBA.
Compa's music displays a binary relationship between 'Foundation Sound' homage and Forward- Motion thought. Spacious textures, heavily built subfrequencies and intricate execution of minimalism
are but a few significant ways in which his music can be described. TUBA is an artist-run vinyl imprint based in
Brooklyn, specializing in forward-thinking bass music. TUBA pushes new releases from the finest producers on the contemporary bass music scene. Roster includes J:Kenzo, Truth, DJG, Compa, Moldy, Daega Sound, Juss B, Subreachers, & DOperation Drop

The third release on Sub Squared features the music of Kurtane, a producer from the British town of Northampton. The record
consists of two Kurtane originals, backed with remixes by previous Sub Squared artists Ghostek and Craig McWhinney. The two original tracks and Ghostek's remix fit broadly within the 'Bass Music' category, leaning towards 4/4, whilst Craig McWhinney's remix is steadfast, heavy Techno. All tracks are at 130 bpm.Title track 'Chebarkul' employs a staccato rhythm, huge kick drum reminiscent of orchestral timpani and floating tones to create a dance floor banger. 'Uninspired' rasps along in the midrange, again with a staccato rhythm driving the track and a solid sub bass emphasising the beat.
On the B-Side Craig McWhinney's rework of 'Uninspired' is a swung mixture of eerie sound effects, pummelling drums and rasping, serrating tones. Industrial Techno with soul. Ghostek's remix of 'Chebarkul' completes the EP with elements of the Dark Garage that he has become known for paired with a very loose, swinging drum line that constantly evolves as the track progresses.

After locking in the first US contributor to the Chestplate legacy a few months back, Distance is finally ready to unfold the next
chapter of the movement - Mesck. Following District's Roy's Theme/Aftermath/Tempest release, Mesck fuses another cog in the label's machinery, giving Chestplate one more flavor while sticking to the no-nonsense frequency construction that has characterized Chestplate's aesthetic. The EP offers a cohesive journey through vibrant dynamics, rolling out with the hollowed kick patterns and ominous underscoring of Conquista. Collusion slows the momentum with more minimal percussion, leaving plenty of space for the labyrinth of subtle detail commandeering the atmosphere. A bongo-driven plane of chambered flux transitions the mood as Arcane Glimpse enthralls the soundfield with guttural and interchanging reese patches. Mesck sends us off in Lucid Form with a beat that deploys hefty swing while discombobulating the senses as voices hop left-to-right in the scape.
The EP drops June 9th in all major record retailers and bodes well for those who actually fell for Distance's sick joke of cutting
physical releases from the Chestplate diet. Conquista and Collusion will be featured on a 12" cut, with Arcane Glimpse and Lucid Form remaining exclusive to digital format. Keep those ears locked

The best kept secret of the French Touch The beat maker who ran with the TTC crew in the 90's The passionate collector of rare and bizarre records The producer that was called in to help Sebastien Tellier build his blue musical cult The man behind a handful of 12 with saturated contours on Ed Banger Records (Motorcycle Boy, Disco Dynamite, Domino) combining rock, hip hop and electro He's all of that, really. Mr Flash's debut album is titled Sonic Crusader (in reference to an article in Dazed & Confused on the start of Ed Banger), which perfectly illustrates his musical philosophy. 15 tracks - among which the classics 'Domino' and 'Motorcycle Boy' - resulting in a genuine sonic odyssey condensing all of Mr Flash's obsessions: his passion for phat and melodic hip hop, his taste for cinematic and illustrative sequences, his influences of polished 70's and 80's productions like Prince, AC/DC, Herbie Hancock or Sun Ra, and electro notions nourished by new-wave and industrial music. The whole thing is enveloped in a cloak of musical grandiosity. A sonic crusade shaped like a rollercoaster of influences that Mr Flash orchestrates with subtlety, taking us in one fell swoop from the sweaty dumps of a club to the melancholy of California highways, sneaking us into the jungle and having us wake-up dressed as a modern crooner, before throwing us head first into the twinkling stars. In the end, it's the perfect soundtrack to a film that's never been shot.

This summer marks the inception of 'EXCURSIONS' - an extension of the Phuture Shock Musik imprint, and the first in a series of 'anything goes' musical experiments. The new sub label intends to act as an outlet for artists from the PSM camp (amongst others) , that allows the creative freedom to showcase their more leftfield works - where less emphasis is on the dance-floor and more focus on the endless possibilities of musical exploration, whilst maintaining a forward-thinking ethos.

Each release under the 'EXCURSIONS' banner will be exclusive to vinyl only, and highly limited to 300 copies - with the maiden 12" being pressed on an alluring slab of red transparent wax.

The first volume features 4 brand new cut's - one apiece courtesy of; Bristol-based producer - OPR8, fellow Bristolian beatsmith - Psyah, the ever elusive Roof Light from the outskirts of London, and Detroit's on-the-rise talent - Appian.

Afriqua - Concomitance / Aeiou

2nd Drop are very proud to present a killer 12' from Afriqua.
Hailing from the USA, but living in Berlin, Afriqua, a multi-instrumentalist and producer of seriously cerebral electronic music with
flashes of jazz, afro and buckets of soul, has been sending music to us for over a year, and whilst all brilliant, we've finally settled on
these two tracks for his debut 12' on 2nd Drop.
Concomitance is a big, main room, 5am style hedonistic beast, with flourishes of acidic intent and wave after wave of booming drops
that draw you in again and again. There is deep and then there is deeeeeeeeep.
AIEOU is an altogether different vibe, much in the same vein as Pedestrian's Ndizi which came out on 2nd Drop last year, this
channels a powerful Afrocentric energy into a rolling, unsettling track that is at once beguiling and mysterious.
On the artwork, we're really happy to welcome back the supremely talented Jimmy Turrell, a well-respected designer and illustrator
who has worked with everyone from Fiat and Nike to The Guardian and Dazed & Confused. Asked to provide something inspired by
Afrocentricism and a twisted Heart of Darkness aesthetic, he came back with a wonderful collage of images that evoke the essence
of the music. Check the rest of his work out here:
