Slivers
30.09.2019

If Not Now When is the first release by Tizzy on Slivers. Created over 12 months in the Deep Blue Studios of Vancouver, Canada, the backbone of the 808 takes the listener on a journey through past and present. The purposefully short tracks on ‚If Not Now When' invoke the history of artists such as J Dilla, Madlib, and Prefuse 73 in its journey.

Tizzy has quietly been behind the scenes of releases and performances for a number of artists on Hybridity Records, the New Forms Festival, and a number of other projects over the past 20 years. Tizzy has performed and presented in festivals such as MUTEK, Transmediale, ISEA, the FCMM, the New Museum and Next Wave under a number of different monikers.

Basic Rhythm - 2 Da Core

Basic Rhythm follows up his album 'On The Threshold' with an EP that lays out theexplicit connections between hardcore and footwork. A connection made even clearer by the inclusion of a rare remix by Chicago footwork originator RP Boo.

2 Da Core's punchy rolling drums are levelled up against rough samples and a vocal hook pitched up and down in classic hardcore style. Get Up runs a tubby bass under hazy vocal samples and weird sound effects. RP Boo's remix of 2 Da Core disassembles the track into pieces, building a stalking helicopter-like rhythm which plays hide and seek with the samples, while the closing track Nuh Ramp rounds off the EP with tumbling micro-edited rhythms and a melody built from small colourful sounds that draw on the Caribbean roots of this music.

Off the back of the highly conceptual project 'Plata - Last Dayz', Circadian Rhythms quickly return to focus on their white label series and solidify their signature sound. CRWL003 takes form of three club driven tracks from the arsenal of Leicester based producer R@ (Lewis Ireson). The 21 year old's current studies in Video Game Development have evidently started to seep into the ferocious sound that has drawn him attention.
His praised debut EP 'Neural' was released on Stella Beats in October 2018 and following his DJing debut at the CR003 Live event alongside Mssingno and Plata, he now continues this run with his first vinyl release, showcasing his signature production.

After completing the LUV trilogy earlier this year, Coco Bryce now returns with the first installment of yet another sub series to his Myor Massiv imprint.

On New Romantic he offers up a sweet mixture of jungle techno infused 4x4 beats combined with his signature lovey dovey vibes, whereas My Blue Heaven features a more drum & bass wise approach with staccato breaks and 808 subs in true mid 90s fashion, albeit with an undeniable late 2010s aesthetic.

Dalek One - Can’t Walk EP

Dalek One

Can’t Walk EP

12inchDSDV003
Dub Sector
26.09.2019

Blistering heat. Manifesting itself in the form of superheated sound system music, the US-based Dub Sector substantiates another potent, sonic signature with its subsequent, physical release. Welcoming back one of their latest signees from a massive compilation, the gifted vibrations of Dalek One etch their grooves into the label's third vinyl outing and onto powerful stacks of speakers all over the globe. His discography is a sight to behold, supported by some of the scene's foremost figures from past to present - notably having released on Truth's as well as DJ Hatcha's imprints, Encrypted Audio, Duploc, and other quality Dubstep hubs. Ready to unload another ton of pressure, the man of the hour reveals his next three enormous aces up his boundless sleeves - game to shake up the dance.

Backed by the likes of Caspa, 'Can't Walk' advances its visceral sound design, carved out of fastidious distortion and frequency modulation. Most likely brought to you from another world, the resulting sound charge rejoices with livid, granular foley sampling and plenty of Breaks & Jungle influences - pure madness ensuing in the second return of its full might. Turning to a more intensely abysmal soundscape, 'Skincrawler' is fuelled by haunting echos and ephemeral drums. Ramping it up amidst the tape hiss, the proceeding brew of oscillations takes your head right off. Stripped down to its core and with heartfelt swing, the relentless sub-bass onslaught backing its every move - an incarnation of demonic spirits, supremely encapsulated.

Collaborating with Max Mischief on 'Sicim' - the final blow sends us backwards into vintage tape delays, embedded on a profoundly nostalgic piano melody. Eccentric drum patterns swing from one high- amplitude sine wave to another, keeping the amplification hard at work and the dance floor unwaveringly aflame.

Touched Music
30.03.2020

Unless you live deep, deep inside some sort of cave and have never ventured outside it's unlikely that you'll be unexcited by the next offering from Touched Music.

Quench lighten our lives once again with 'Greyhound EP', Drawing on His vast experience (Cane, Funckarma, et. al) to bring you a lovely little collection of tracks.

Six pieces of expert creation, thoughtful in concept and masterful in execution, this is the complete opposite of run-of-the-mill. Rhythms are strong, highs are crisp and things which are distant sound like they are supposed to be.

'Marta Cosmone' emerges from a muddy horizon and quickly flips into a clear and concise track. Attention has clearly been given in equal amounts to all constituent parts and nothing has been left behind.

The theme continues right until the end, all the songs here leave you hanging from one phrase to the next as they continuously evolve and transform to keep your attention.

There's an intermittent sense of urgency, most apparent in 'Skavenger Orphan'. One has just about enough time to process what has happened until the next iteration of the phrase is in your face.

Everything is topped off nicely by 'Bowen Skylax' that manages to relax me after being on the edge of my seat for half an hour or so - no thanks to the penultimate 'Biva Vlance' which steps it up a notch with somewhat more hectic drum programming.

Navy Cut welcome Surreal to the label for his inaugural release!
Hailing from Yorkshire, the no-nonsense producer and DJ caught our attention with his production skill and attention to detail.

“Somnipath” driven by a dark 808 bass that progresses into an Eastern melodic atmosphere.

On the flip side “Don’t Fall Asleep” is intense bass pressure with thick drums and even thicker vibes.

Lynch Kingsley - Astral Pulse / Capricorn

Following a monster 12" from Bones & Natty earlier in 2019, Foxy Jangle returns with one of modern Jungle's freshest up and coming artists – Lynch Kingsley.

With previous releases on Rua Sound, Med School and Flexout Audio under his belt, Lynch hinted at his own darker new sound with 'Void', on Inperspective Records last year.

LK's Foxy Jangle debut explores this dark, complex space further, delivering a double uppercut of cerebral, visceral jungle futurism. With a clear nod to past masters, Lynch's craftmanship takes classic signatures forward into the unknown, with hyperdetailed sound design and razor-sharp precision drum programming across both sides.

Coming in at a combined length of 15 minutes, both tracks have a dense, epic feel, making for an intensive headphone workout. This is challenging music at its rewarding best.

Oliver Coates / SPATIAL - Decouple / Series

Experimental solo cellist Oliver Coates [RVNG intl, PRAH] and techno-dub minimalist Spatial [Infrasonics] coalesce with the new installment for the Decouple ][ Series by subverting—through subliminal interventions and refined focus changes—pre-packaged music forms and textures in favor of new self-organizing tendencies. Surprisingly enough, two producers of such different DNAs converge to a similar systemic approach, delivering a set of music that flows with solid and endearing consistency.

“The 4 units of musical material ‘Path in, J Lover One, Yomi, Umbo’ came into one together through a kind of dream logic” explains Coates . “They are contradictory, non-developmental and block-like, sitting across from each other like David Lynch's Rabbits”. Hence each section seems to seek for completion and fallacy at the same time in a form of non sequitur disjointed conversations. From the heavily processed cello intro of ‘Path in’, to the instant avant-classical Reichian ‘Yomi’, to the infectious breakbeat brutalism of ‘Umbo’, Coates enhance the plasticity of music to help to reconfigure familiar styles or patterns from known feelings and corresponding language. This plasticity is the way to unlock mental fixations, move things around and make fresh compartments for pleasure.

City1 feat. Rider Shafique - Speak Out EP

Okinawan talent City1 has been making some serious moves with his unique dark productions as of late and we are honoured to welcome him to the Subaltern family.

* Speak Out feat. Rider Shafique
In the mighty title track City1 delivers a clinical slab of bass science which gravitationally pulls deep into a different dimension. The dreamy yet dark atmosphere and vibrant basslines are graced by the elevating bars of none less than the notorious Rider Shafique - one of bass music’s finest vocalists hailing from Bristol.

* Koroga
Going even darker, City1 opens up another world in this trip of a track. Koroga rides on relentless dark synths and keeps switching up the pace, leading the listener through a maze of eerie sounds - be careful though, the walls are closing in. Dangerous!

* Zee
Zee is just as otherworldly as the first two tracks. With heavy hitting basslines and snappy percussions, City1 delivers yet another absolutely unique roller. Whenever you thought the track had arrived at its peak, it takes another, even wilder turn.

Spectral Empire - Iron Muscle

Spectral Empire are George Thompson (aka Black Merlin / Karamika) and Kyle Martin (Vactrol Park / Land of Light). With the release of Iron Muscle they are celebrating 10 years since their debut ep Innerfearence saw the light of day in 2008 on the now defunct THISISNOTANEXIT record label. Legend tells all track were made around the same time (2008-2009), at what was back then Kyle's studio in Archway, London, however opinions remain divided over the validity of this info. What is remembered for a fact is that they'v used practically every home appliance and improvised noise they could find, record and harness, in order to create the feeling of what they describe as a ' Robot walking' for the title track Iron Muscle. Anything from kitchen drawers to DVD's and cutlery was sampled and then drenched in effects and manipulated in order to create what came out as a cinematic futuristic piece to dive into again and again, a soundtrack for an unwritten sci-fi movie, or just a dramatic soundtrack for your everyday lives.. With See the invisible, rules do not apply. An arpeggiated groove sitting on a steady half time 60bpm beat, its like the perfect soundtrack to the perfect car chase. Mediterranean riverbed guitars- not-guitars, sirens, and a heavy (dreamy) atmosphere fill the voids and keeps the track pushing forward throughout... The 4th track on the record is a never before seen the light of day epic remix by Die Wilde Jagd, that back then still included Ralf Beck (Unit 4) as an active member of the band (back when they were still known as Der Rau¨ber und Der Prinz). The release will be a vinyl only release, and is already getting massive support from the likes of Vladimir Ivkovic, Michael Mayer, John Talabot, Red Axes, Manfredas, Trevor Jackson, Lena Wilikkens, Man Power and many more...

Crafting his own sound since his debut release in 2016 and building tune after tune steadily since then, we are sure you are more than familiar with his productions.

“Ol’ Dirty” with an intro full of suspense leads up to a high energy drop built for big sound systems. The second drop provides Mr.K’s signature style; intricate bass and rhythm changes.

Expect something unexpected in the shape of “Forever”. Admittedly a one-of-a-kind vibe for Mr K to date; a jazz-influenced, hip hop style rumbler.

Scooped - Worldwide Slaughter (ft. Danny Ranks)

Dubwise. Seizing the spotlight for Sub Audio Records' fourth 12" pressing, Vienna's very own Scooped untethers his long-awaited debut vinyl release.

The skilled craftsman arose out of the boiling melting pot of Austria's thriving Dub and Dubstep scene and has been actively shaking up dance floors with high-grade productions since 2015 - receiving recognition from the likes of Joe Nice & Truth in the process. Musically rooted in the spirit of Reggae and Dub, the release features a collaboration with acclaimed vocalist Danny Ranks, who's gifted lyrical performance - music with a message - perfectly matches the irreproachable instrumental - a profound Dub cut succeeding in a traditional version style, drenched in tape delays and otherworldly reverb.

Turning to the B-Side, the imprint welcomes none other than the heavyweight sound system and musical veteran Dubbing Sun to the family and mixing desk - serving a super-charged signature style Stepper's remix with relentless might. Concluding the record in reflective excellence, label owner and operator Gnischrew manifests his sonic technique through an ephemeral take on the original, inducing a final instance of pressure-assisted meditation at 140 BPM.

Soundbwoy Killah - Halcyon Daze

Through a misty, nostalgic lens of long days and nights lost in front of sound systems, Soundbwoy Killah delivers his much anticipated debut album to Sneaker Social Club. True to previous drops on this and other labels, this is rave romanticism with a bite, as much viewing the good old days with a wry smile as longing for their return. Just listen to the opening strains of “Escape Velocity,” as the MC manages a sticky situation and tries to keep cool while sending the crowd on their way “in an orderly fashion.”

As much as hardcore, jungle, acid, techno and house inform Halcyon Daze, the sonic signifiers of that ‘golden era’ of rave culture are bedded in a poignant, reflective shroud. From lingering pads to distant, reverb drenched vocal snatches, a hint of melancholy hovers over these scattered but vivid memory triggers. Reese bass has never reverberated so deep, sirens never sounded so lost at sea.

The real art in Soundbwoy Killah’s craft lies in the juxtaposition between these languid, introspective elements and bright, sharply rendered arcs of sound that bring the music right into the foreground. This isn’t a pure exercise in nostalgia – stripped of their aggressive armour plating, a lot of these familiar elements take on a new expressive identity. Whether it’s the strafing arps in “Tom Loves To Rave,” or softly nudging the rolling breaks of “Under The Influence” into a downtempo, chill-out room headspace, Halcyon Daze proves how much mileage there still is in these battle-scarred sonic tools.

It’s not all one-dimensionally downcast either – “Heartbeats” is a rude n’ ruff celebration of amen choppage, while “Wanna Hold U” channels the ghost of UK garage with one eye cast back to its US house roots. “All Night Long” finishes the record on a charging high, all tightly clipped tech step beats and bright synths that cast their gaze ahead with optimism. The themes of lost love and fuzzy memories echo throughout Halcyon Daze, but rather than wallowing in the past, this open-ended finishing move springs forward with purpose. One gets the feeling there’s plenty more to come from Soundbwoy Killah.

Akcept - Teachings / Going Around In Circles

Modern Hypnosis welcomes New Zealand's 'Akcept' to the label. The Christchurch based producer has gone from strength to strength, his unique take on dubstep has had him labelled as one of the rising stars in the genre. Akcept continues to defy genre boundaries and push his sound, drawing inspiration from a wide range of musical influences such as, Hip-Hop, African rhythms and deep dub styles. After a string of releases at 140 bpm on some of the world's leading dubstep labels (Amar, Artikal, Moonshine Recordings, Sentry), Akcept pushes the boundaries further still with two hypnotic rollers demonstrating his love for minimal dub techno and ambient styles.

A sort after dub, 'Teachings' is now getting the full heavyweight 12" treatment, a mesmerising dub odyssey, distant stabs create an emotive atmosphere as his signature heavy bass notes roll in, followed by a 'steppas like' riddim to lock you in the groove. Subtle dubbing, dynamic use of space, and the introduction of an alternate skank will have you in deep meditation before the drums come back in with more energy and an astute bass line.

On the flip 'Going Around In Circles'. A thumping kick drum and groovy baseline accompanied by a classic 4/4 beat and a poignant vocal sample, blur the lines between house, techno and dub music.
