Frankly, this EP is ridiculous. It was originally planned as a double pack, so we were excessive with getting both a Pete Cannon remix and a Hyper On Experience remix. I was tempted to do one myself but I though "nah, no one can top the original" and then had to eat my words because all 4 of these meet, if not beat, the original classic tune. Petes is of the hook madness, hands in the air biznizz. Hyper On take it to a whole new crystal clear and completely complex level. HSI changes it from what Stompin Tunes would do to what perhaps Reinforced would do. And Wislov roles it back in time to an almost Njoi-esq style 1991 banger. Absolutely amazing...

In this third chapter of the BROT series, we wrap up the trilogy from the Reykjavík based producer Felix Leifur, who has genuinely showcased his incredible set of production skills throughout the year.

These last five BROT tracks move the sound to another spectrum where Felix plays around with his traditional sound. But this time the tempo is high, and the strong influences from old school breakbeat and jungle shine through. Felix's BROT 03 ties up the first BROT series with flair and this one will surely not be the last one. Stay tuned for more BROT action in 2020.

If someone had told me in 1992 that one day Kniteforce Records would be releasing music from such esteemed old skool artists as Sublove, Liquid, Hyper On Experience and Acen, I would have not believed it. To add NRG to that list is beyond anything I could ever have dreamed of, and with new music as well? What can I say?
This EP is not only NRGs first new hardcore in a very, very long time, it is also an amazing release which has all of the energy and sublime cleverness that you would expect from such a legendary artist. The first EP with more to come, this one contains four absolute winners. My personal favourite being I Love It because I love it, but Fire is also, well....fire. I am tempted to tell you to turn up Turn It Up and that Helpless will leave you helpless. All true, all amazing.

The title track is a right beast, giddily soaring through decades of dance eras past with expert poise. Its hard housed pumping core and diva mantras soon erupt into trance(cstatic) bliss, eliciting Pear’s biggest hands-in-the-air moment yet. Addictive stuff.

Stargazer shifts focus, locking in deep with an aerated roller reminiscent of early noughties tech. Serene pads suspend across its chugging low end, indulging sun-rise euphoria for ‘floors & headphones alike. Forcefield Shifta sees us out, stepping sharp with reinforced hardcore energy. New Members flexes his breadth as one of Dublin’s most talented producers.

Acid Lab returns to AGN7 Audio with his “Secret Weapon EP”. With releases on a host of recognized underground imprints, he has offered steady contributions to many areas of the Drum & Bass and Bass music community throughout the years, under several aliases including Kodama and Ahmad.

"Banoffee Pies Records" drop the 13th release in the original series. This VA aptly entitled "Common Ground" is a crossover of influences from 4 artists with a selection of tracks all above 150 bpm from producers of a similar generation giving a nod to their youth and early musical journeys, largely inspired by Drum & Bass and Jungle raves across the UK.

The release divided in two with a Dark A side and Light B side offering parallel moods of depth and liquidity. The opening track "Class Of '92" from Lisene, one half of the Space Cadets duo, with previous releases on Seven Hill Records and an EP lined up with Planet Euphorique later this year, pushes complex drum patterns and pulsing synths evolving in energy levels throughout. The A2 from Bristol based Hartta offers a more spooked out bass heavy cut with "Hauntology", ready for powerful system rumbling.

The B side begins with title track "Common Ground", an ode to dusted jungle and liquid drum & bass from Leeds based Sourpuss, known for running the Stretchy Dance Supply parties, - this track serving hedonistic eye rolling gurner euphoria, sounding more like an og 90's prodcution. The last track on the disc "Vapour" comes from Manchester's Interplanetary Criminal. With his UKG EP "Move Tools" on BP010 landing on the label and many dance floors at the end of 2019, this nostalgic drum scattered jungle cut stylishly closes off the compilation. Ltd. Press. BP x

Acens return to the scene was an undisputable success, with his vinyl EP selling big numbers even in this day and age. A remix EP was inevitable, because how could we not? And if we are gonna do remixes, lets roll with the best in the scene. Danny Styles, who’s recent remixes for Hyper On Experience were enormous, takes the A side with a full on amen jungle remix. Meanwhile, Liquid brings his timeless class to the remix pool, slowing it down and giving it a polished classic feel. Kniteforce hero Alk-e-d teams up with newcomer Dj Beeno to round the EP off in ruff and underground style.

This massive 12” EP combines some of Sublove’s rarest releases with a brand new surprise. Vexation is an AMAZING track that was recently discovered by Sublove sitting on a DAT. How this superb piece of amen mayhem wasn't released I just do not know, but finally it gets its day on wax, where it always deserved to be. A huge 1994 styled jungle Amen roller, truly amazing. Booca – Breath Of My Spirit is a tripped out adventure into the mind of one of the most original artists we have heard in a long time. Starting off with the sounds of distorted, warped vinyl and melancholic vocal chants it builds into wonderful exhibition of funked up drums and big bass stabs. One of those tunes where you will discover something new on each listen. Expect to hear more from this great Italian producer on Transmute soon.

DSP – Just A Touch is a big dubby, drumfunk tear out. The chopped up drums build into a crescendo of dubbed out bass, haunting pads and DSP’s trademark fills & rolls. Check this out on a big rig (when we are allowed). Look out for more beats from MK’s finest this year as we know he is cooking up some Trouble!

Ben Kei – Desolate. Dalston Chillies founder brings his perpetual spicing to Transmute with a heavy rolling bass & drum display. Percussive beginnings creeps into mentasm and jazz keys manifesting into some classic niceness jungle vibes. The bassline on this really is big and should be enjoyed at the highest possible volume. Spicy!

Abyss once again drops a masterclass in Amen manipulation, with shattering bass and proper jungle vibes. Hitting that sweet spot between original old skool and classic styled amen trickery is a trick tried by many, but none in the current scene comes close to matching him. This EP drops HEAVY and gives the dancefloor no time to recover.

Astrophonica maintain pace in 2020 as Philip D Kick returns to the label with the 6 track “As We Continue”. Following 2018’s “Pathways” Jim Coles aka Om Unit aka Philip D Kick adds some shine and sparkle to his already near perfect and persistent formula. Coles remains dedicated to blurring the lines and joining the dots. As we continue . . .

Stu Chapman has been one of the most well regarded producers in the old skool and hardcore breaks scene for many years, and teaming up with legendary Perth Dj Rob Fender, he drops this awesome debut EP. Three tracks loaded with a deep underground sound for the proper raves from back in the day.

This EP produced by Noise Factory in 1993 expresses the full on depths of Junglistic Hardcore at its best and was driven by the rare groove of the sample patterns we like to call it of jungle with a groove.

These are unreleased tracks by S. McCutcheon (Syko) & R. Haigh (Omni-Trio) under the name 'Persons Unknown'. These group of artists collaborated on a number of tracks which were released on the Candidate Records label (a sublabel of Rob’s in-house label, Parliament Music). However, there were a number of unfinished, archived and VIP remixed tracks that are now scheduled for release on Blueskinbadger Records”

Rave had become hardcore – from which a strand called breakbeat house developed. This morphed into breakbeat techno, which became jungle techno. And I turned around to find myself part of a movement that was now known as drum & bass. This further splintered into (labeled by journalists) jump-up and “intelligent drum & bass,” darkcore, artcore, and so on. Out Of Romford Records was one of the most underrated old school labels in the history of our scene. Relentlessly innovative and with a unique sound, it was always ahead of the game and perhaps it is only now that the true brilliance of each release can be really appreciated.
This EP contains the absolute classic “Chance To Dance” which back in the day eclipsed the other three tracks on the EP. But years go by, and now all 4 tracks can be re-evaluated. And what an amazing EP this is. Its both a product of its time, and totally timeless in its sound. The remastering has only served to enhance the brilliance of the entire EP. Not to be missed…
