Brighton's Klax crew return to Critical with their very first full blown EP release on the label since their Systems series debut back in 2015. From hard-hitting industrial strength and half- time leanings through to warm liquid gold, the Klax boys deliver yet another outstanding, fresh take on drum & bass.

Mesmerising, moody-as-f**k new production from Pessimist, owning the dark blue space where icy drum'n'bass minimalism and sub-aquatic dub-techno meet. Perfect alignment of stripped, shadow-boxer drums, swooping drones and earth-shaking subs, with a thin layer of crackle and masterful use of silence.....you can hear the influence of Chain Reaction outliers, Source Direct, even early dark garage in there....but this is a pure futurist blend. On the flip, the dense, dungeon rollage of 'Orphic', an effortless bridging of torques and tempos that builds on the radical groundwork of Regis, Felix K and Pessimist's own Ruffhouse crew. Following a run of fine solo work for Ingredients and Samurai Music among others, the Bristol-based producer and UVB-76 co-founder has truly excelled himself here, demonstrating both a subtlety and a ruthlessness that sets him apart from his peers. Tendrils of this prehistoric demon's soul wrapped themselves around those who made the discovery - entrancing, captivating and compelling them with its dark story from the deep past. It is a tale that runs eternal, an account of the deepest savagery of nature - a conflict that has spilled across every conscious being and drives the endless cycle of life.

EATBRAIN channel a tale of a forgotten age through the unique minds of SEGMENT & CONCEPT VISION and their MAMMOTH EP. Featuring 4 precisely engineered cuts of audio that reach into the fraught and fractured core of existence and tear deep grooves into those who listen. VINTAGE opens the EP with luscious dub-driven pads and undulating tones that drop into a shifty and tight neurofunk banger, punctuated by pitched vocal stabs. RADIANT tears up the dance with a strobing and sweeping bassline, backed with a beautiful yearning melody and soft arpeggios. The title track of the EP MAMMOTH takes careful aim before striking a series of brutally syncopated blows, before HEIST takes down the rave in a flood of sirens leading to a stepper with an eminently catchy hook and deep, driving vibe.

It's a well-known fact that Total Science are massive winners - or weiners, depending which sausage factory you bump into them at. And here with their brand new Turn Around EP, they're now putting that into vinyl format with some of their nearest and dearest fellow victors.

Comprised of four killer cuts that combine a raft of their influences, the title track Turn Around takes you back to the early 90's jungle sound. They combine once again with Symmetry label boss and all round drum and bass badman Break for Big Time Winners, summoning the ghost of rave past. The Music Master Calibre steps into the CIA fray once again to remix the beautiful TS classic Walk The Same Lines with Riya, and they also combine with fellow Bristol resident and technical wizard DLR on Too Close For Comfort, taking you down a deep rabbit hole.

Total Science's Turn Around EP signals their intent for 2017 - consider this your first warning!

After only two years since their first release on Cyclone, Amoss have become one of the most exciting and forward thinking names in drum & bass. A love of music stretching back into both their pasts, the duo have amazed audiences across the globe with the style, panache and variation which has characterised their work. Taking a lead from names such as Renegade Hardware and Moving Shadow, James and Andrew have successfully moulded their influences into a futuristic, genre-defining sound.

* Now they are ready to step up a notch, delivering a new release for the mighty Horizons label. Bumbaclart and Dilate will go a long way to cementing their reputation for big, bad and heavy d&b, which has seen them being supported by Spectrasoul, London Elektricity, Storm, Loxy and more. Amoss are known for their involving, evolving blend of beats and bass and their in-depth knowledge of the technical side of production, and the two tracks on show here are markers of their intention, in two markedly different ways.
* Bumbaclart is a deep, dark look into a Jamaican-inspired nightmare. Claustrophobic, mind-melding atmospherics surround a spoken intro, before a deceptively simple beat/bass dichotomy kicks in later on. An explanation of the meaning of the word is surrounded by pounding, groove-fuelled melodies, leaving you reeling and reaching for more. Amoss build worlds with everything they do, and they do this expertly on Bumbaclart.
* Dilate, meanwhile, builds from an initial electric pulse to a steady-growing groover, by way of some neat percussion. The underlying pulse gets louder, invading your mind, as layers are added on top. Amoss's sound is addictive, almost catching you unawares with its complexity and artistry.
* Amoss are *the* name in d&b for experimentation, progression and fiercely original music. Teaming up with Horizons, they are going to be BIG. Get on board now.

Damon Yates, AKA martianMan, set up 4th Planet Recordings to release music by people which includes some of his more favorite artists. Artist that simply need to have more music released. It involves the same basic idea that he had when starting up the martianMan volumes which is to release original, high quality jungle with a completely underground feel. Not only the bass and drums are important for the vibes but the whole feel of the music is in play. It can be completely futuristic sounding or full of old school vibes though out. However it's served up just know that it is underground.

Floor fillers reminiscent of early Prodigy-style breakbeat, accompanied by a neurotic acid gem and an ambient version of the title track. The R raves on! With 'What's Going On', Electronic Emergencies turns back the clock to 1993. By then, Dutch brothers The R had made a name for themselves with releases like 'Rave the Planet' on legendary proto techno label ESP, and the four previously unreleased tracks on 'What's Going On' were also created during the heyday of Dutch pre-trance techno house.

After signing to Hospital Records in June 2014, we were given a brief taste of his diversity with the release of his 'Where Are You' EP late last year. 'Low Note' wastes no time in getting to the drop before you've had chance to take a breath. A haunting vocal then sets off another 16 bars of unclouded rawness.* 'Linear' finishes the EP with aplomb. Synth chords open up into what you might expect to be a lovely liquid-esque style roller... think again! Following the release of their second LP on Ram Records, Calyx & TeeBee return after a brief hiatus with brand new music. 1x1 was met with critical acclamation from press through to radio, heralded as another monumental addition to their discography.
With tracks being featured across Radio1, as well as premiered on the world's biggest stages at EDC and SW4, the pair have received a legendary status. But after a collection of vocal-lead cuts sung by Calyx, they've decided to bring their sound back down to the underground.

* To celebrate 14 years of the Intrigue club night, Ben Soundscape's Intrigue Music label are putting out a brand new album called 'Intrigue 14'. The album is a truly versatile selection covering a wide spectrum of deep drum & bass. It contains 14 exclusive tracks and remixes from the likes of Calibre, Break, Randall, Random Movement, Ill Truth, Ben Soundscape, RoyGreen & Protone, Joakuim, Raw Q and more. It follows on from the previous three in the series, which began at the start of 2014. It has received huge support from across the scene including plays by Friction on BBC Radio 1, Calibre, Fabio, DJ Marky, LTJ Bukem and more. The album is released April 14th on limited 4-track vinyl EP and digital.

* 2017 is set to be a defining year for the Addictive Behaviour imprint. Over the past few months the label has truly found its sound and is dishing it out relentlessly in the months ahead with multiple parties lining up alongside some boundary pushing music. Their second release of the year sees the predominantly tech-roller outfit return to vinyl ventures with a 3 track wax EP of epic proportions, mysteriously titled 'New Age Myths'.

* First up on the release roster is the illustrious Kyrist with her cryptic tale 'The Drifted'. Opening with some incredible atmospherics you are instantly transported to an unknown land, like a ship that's sailed into hostile territories. The cinematic production builds momentum before fading out with a haunting crash. Suddenly, out of the void creeps an intricate drum pattern with sharp synths cutting through, catapulting us into new realms. The sound design in this track is extraordinary, switching and fluctuating with every bar, captivating to the very end.

* Next in this chronicle is 'Basilisk'. A collaboration from recent Addictive production trilogy Data 3 and relative newcomers Revaux. 'Basilisk' entices you in with eerie vibes. A trickle of rasping hats and shuffles alongside airy pads swimming under the filtered surface. Then a human like cry fades out to introduce fierce bass and kick drums as this monster rears its heavy head. The track pulsates along with ferocity, the rhythm constantly flowing. You'll find it hard not to give this roller the old D&B head nod. It's sure to be shaking the foundations of dance floors over the coming months.
* The final chapter is told by Mystic State featuring the gritty talents of MC Tension on the mic. 'Blurred Vision' creeps in slow and stealth-like before chopping in a heavy kick-snare beat. Then it's over to the sharp tongued Tension to give it that murky vocal lick. "It's action re-action, reload the ammo to obtain satisfaction" And satisfaction is bang on the money here, as we drop in to subby, gravelly basslines and hard edged drums that will make you want to reload this one for another dose of pure fire. Hard hitting expertly crafted D&B, the perfect fix for any addict.

* The 'New Age Myths EP' is a musical chronology that sounds like it's been sent straight from the future. It brings together a pedigree of young talent, all of which are destined to become big in the game. To celebrate this joint effort release, Addictive are throwing a launch party for the EP on Good Friday.

Diagonal humbly present one of the sickest 12's of 2017: Raime's second Yally record and their debut turn on the label; a two track sureshot severing jungle from root and redressing Diagonal's
darkside late '90s inspirations in a way that could only be trusted to them.
Rolling out under Raime's twyst-off Yally alias - a project for the band to explore their roots in jungle, garage, grime - this killer platter makes no bones about their obsession with the tech-
stepping ballistics of jungle and drum and bass; which is also an overlooked aspect of Diagonal's raving make-up, along with all the other stuff like No Wave, Mika Vainio, and nerve riding techno that they effortlessly work into these cuts. Let's just say we've got common interests.
On Dread Risk the duo splice the stem Jungle cells with urgent, incomprehensible yelps of what sounds like a punk tussling for the mic mid-set at Rage during a Dillinja and Digital b2b, '96.
Basically it's Raime doing jungle, FFS. And it's worth it just for the last 30 seconds of that metallic delay. Come. Again.U Eff O o.t.o.h. is probably the darkest track on the label, give or take. It's a proper , heads down, end-of-the-pipe roller , catching the duo at their most paranoia-inducing and pensive, like some mythical follow-up to Ed Rush + Optical's Alien Girl dubbed by Hatcha and Kode 9. Then again; it's another killer Yally tune.Diagonal is blessed to release such a belter of a record, and finally cross the trajectories that Raime and the label embarked upon, respectively, over five years ago.

Nucleus & Paradox have always been a worthy pairing and their next release for Metalheadz, which is split into 2 parts, once again proves it. Their 2005 single on the label is switched up across both parts, with '12 Bits' getting a Mako remix whilst the duo themselves present a new remix of 'Aragon', bringing a fresh spark to the original.

The two remaining tracks split across the EP are originals, with both showcasing exquisite breaks and twisted basslines throughout. Artwork from Matt Twist completes the 'Wrath EP' package.

* Dom & Roland's Label has gone from strength to strength from its conception in 2006. Featuring collaborations by Dom with other Artists such as Noisia, Hive and Amon Tobin the label has continued to push sonic boundaries whilst staying true to it's ethos of 'not selling out'.

* THE TRAP - DOM & ROLAND

The only "DAT" Master copy of this track was lost 20 years ago in 1997 somewhere between Dom's Studio and Music House in Holloway Road. Dom has been searching for this holy grail of "Amen choppage" since, the only reference to it a crusty recording of a Grooverider show from 1998. At various points there have been glimmers of hope of the wearabouts of the track in its entirety, with much excitement from avid followers who have given "The Trap" a status akin to a cult classic film. Many years, rifled sheds, boxes and lofts later, the breakthrough everyone is waiting for happens. It is Christmas 2016 and a subversive character from Australia sends in the full original quality version, recorded from DAT tape, to Dom & Roland Productions HQ. After a full going over in Dom's lab and a wonderful new mastering job by beau at 1087 the amen legend known only as "The Trap" is ready to be unleashed.

* SWARM - DOM & ROLAND

Depending on who you ask the dubplate of this track from 1996 was called Dark Skies or The Swarm. One of the first tracks to feature Dom's reworked alternating clean and distorted "flow break" which later went on to become a layer in Dom's famous "Tramen" break. Swarm features the switch from light to dark Dom has become famous for. Featuring one of the largest Mentasm basses ever cut on a record alongside the "Subway" Thump bass that Dom later used when producing the "Ed Rush Hit Record" of the same name. It has remained an exclusive gem in Dom's vaults until now. Originally only cut on plate by the A List of Metalheadz Blue Note, this blueprint of bass is finally seeing a release this year.

* It's great to think of John Graham, aka Skanna, rummaging around cupboards in his parents house to find the DATs of his early releases to make this release possible. It was also great to find out that digital degridation had not taken hold on these 20 year old DATs too!
* So here we have another classic Skanna release from 1995 that has been remastered and reissued in an effort to make some classic tracks available again at a reasonable price. Although this record has not commanded such high prices as other releases in the catalogue it has always been tricky to track one down in good condition as the ones out there have all been played to death, and rightly so! The original 'Find Me' and the "Classic Skanna Mix" are both on here and sounding incredible over 20 years later!

After a temporary break away from music to work on other projects Foreign Concept is back with the Skit City EP , the first in a series of new releases.

Inspired by his long time friend Jack Ramsay s new graphic novel of the same name, the title track, featuring Mancunian MC Fox, creates the perfect sonic backdrop to the intricate aesthetic of the Skit City book from which the artwork is taken. Watch out for the video coming soon.
