Having recently completed our nine part Project Mohawk series, Broken Audio return with a new release concept that once again raises the bar, both in terms of quality beats and the physical format they arrive on.

John Rolodex is not a new name to drum & bass headz. A time served pioneer of the Canadian D&B scene, his music has already featured on a slew of quality labels, such as Metalheadz, Hospital, V Recordings, Dread, Tech Itch and his own excellent Machinist imprint to name but a few. A producer that's not afraid to cut his own path rather than following the conventions of others, he steps up for his debut release on Broken Audio with two tracks aimed squarely at the dance floor.

Leading off we have 'Oil Drum'. Like an 808 driven monster rising from the depths, Rolodex serves up one of those left of centre tunes you'll often hear around 3am in a club that leaves you thinking 'what the f*ck'..! Honed with a background of near techno militancy and industrialism, it's a stand out track for those seeking a fresh angle to move a crowd.

Hot on the flip is 'Pixel Demon'. Almost a tribute to a bygone skill, Rolodex serves up his take on the classic bassline roller, sub laden, crisp breaks, full of energy, but all delivered with that trademark grit that marks it out as a track by an innovator rather than an imitator.

This is the first release in our new Illuminati series. Each comes with a limited edition & stickered 12" pale glow fluorescent vinyl, translucent by day, an eerie glowing white by night. A download card is also included with each EP purchase, providing free access to the full digital release once it goes live two weeks later.

With extensive and diverse support from across the scene, including the likes of DJ Krust and Sinistarr hailing this as one of Rolodex's finest EP's to date, it's more than a fitting start to our latest musical journey.

Thus far, 1985 Music has boasted a number of releases as the new home of its founder, Alix Perez. Till date, there have been releases from Alix and a select few collaborators SHADES w/ Eprom, Taso (Teklife) and Skeptical (Exit Records). It is with the release of this EP where 1985 Music present themselves as a platform for new talent. Perez's vision for 1985 is ...to push and support good, forward thinking music that I believe represents the focus of 1985..'. It is with this in mind that we proudly present the 'Hold Me Back' EP from Toulouse's finest - Monty. Monty has already had support from Noisia, Kasra and Skeptical and can boast releases of singles on Critical Music and Invisible Recordings. This 4 track EP is mature and refreshing, and has been received well whenever played out. The music is dark, dynamic, minimal and refreshingly modern.

Agressor Bunx have been setting the standard recently. Whether it's on seminal drum & bass imprint Ram Records, or the underground torch holder Eatbrain, they've settled themselves within the discography of every major label running the game. And they're about to return with four fresh cuts which bring some serious heat, once again platforming the cut throat sound which has made them so infamous.
'The Curse' EP, out on innovative imprint Ignescent Records, stands as both a pivotal release for both artist and label. Founded in 2015, they're beginning to push their way into a league with the heavyweights and with the
help of Agressor Bunx, it's not difficult to see why. Already making their mark with Ukrainian underground figures such as NickBee, Ignescent have slowly been refining their sound; this next title proves their stature.
Title-track 'The Curse' throws you synapses first through a wormhole of fury, featuring a soundtrack of mean bass and crispy drums. With a hook that grabs you on first listen, it accelerates during the intro before allowing you to freefall through constructed chaos. Dirty, dark and filled with neurofunk vibes, it exposes a production standard which has ensured their notoriety. Next up, 'Scream' shadows the same pattern, cranking up the gears and taking you into even shadier depths. However, instead throwing out an incessant hook, its thrashing drum patterns drag you through an arrangement heightened by each break. Agressor Bunx punches through to your musical receptors, taking them hostage and leaving you unable to escape their grasp.
Reminiscing on the older times, 'Deja vu' follows suit. Steeped in jungle-esque breakdowns, it's different from the vast range of production they've showcased. With precise form, they hit again and again with seismic results. Growling reeses pedal you even further into the fire, letting their deadly intentions take hold. And finally, comes 'Overwatch'.. Its stabs and blaring subs stand out clearly, gradually building a foundation of infallible weight. They revert yet again to a style which reciprocates the old school, showing that despite their contemporary reign over neuro, they're also well read on their history. It's this background which has enabled them to surge forward, a movement which isn't looking to be stopped anytime soon.

S.P.Y has been prolific of late returning to the vanguard of the drum & bass circuit with his 'Alone In The Dark' trilogy. He's a man-turned-machine, firing out bass weapons from his Bristolian treasurecave of synths throughout 2017 all leading up to the final chapter, EP:3. Opening track 'Transmission' is ready to cause disorder. Turning vocal hums into premium merkage with a deadly cocktail of percussion and electrostatic bassline that prove to be all the ingredients required for the ultimate floorfiller.Dominator Mode' is a primal tech-stepper, bringing classically rugged drum & bass stylings well and truly into the contemporary realm. Rustic and tribal with a distorted vocal sample sitting top, manufactures a truly dystopian audio atmosphere. We all dare to dream but S.P.Y appears to bring these feint fantasies into reality. Reaching for his alter-ego classic liquid movements, the pertinently named 'Dreaming' pictures a cosmic landscape with astral synths, a majestic key-lead hook, distant vocals and wistful melodies.
Now it wouldn't be a S.P.Y release without that signature grit. Fear not, this is delivered in 'Hardcore Harry'. Latin chic breaks are met by jagged sounds and the warmest of sub licks - this anthem is a wall-to-wall banger. Equally, there's the full flux of 'Lockdown' with sci-fi bleeps and wired rhythms that follow an up front lyrical injection before the climactic drop.
They say three's a crowd but they couldn't be more wrong with S.P.Y seeing his 'Alone In The Dark' trilogy off this October and ending on a high.

Longtime favourite Mutt returns to Fokuz Recordings with the Sinnerman EP featuring Tedder. On the A side we find ''Right & Wrong''. a dub infused roller with classic dubby vocal cuts and FX. On the flip the EP's title track brings forward a classic two step rhythm which underlines an iconic sample.

Voltage is another new name to release on Metalheadz in 2017, and is somebody who has already shown incredible talent across the full spectrum of drum and bass.

For his 'Mood Swings EP' Voltage flashes between moments of liquid heaven whilst managing to retain aspects of the grittiness he's become known for. The full 5 track package is one that's set out to surprise, and does so with extreme elegance.

* Dom & Roland's Label has gone from strength to strength from its conception in 2006. Featuring collaborations by Dom with other Artists such as Noisia, Hive and Amon Tobin the label has continued to push sonic boundaries whilst staying true to it's ethos of 'not selling out'. It is currently in A 'Dubs from the Dungeons' Phase releasing sought after unreleased music from the 90's from various accomplished artists every month on limited edition gold vinyl.

A big hitter at the Metalheadz sessions in the 90's this was smashed by Doc Scott and Randall in many of their sets. Again featuring a reworked alternating clean and distorted "flow break" and big 808 bass this style of production pioneered the way for Dom's later work. This turning point in Dom's history is now finally mastered and seeing it's release on vinyl 20 years later.

The incredible third album from Hospital's original DnB prodigy. A lot has changed since High Contrast's debut 'True Colours' dropped in 2002 and injected a new lease of life to the DnB scene. Artists have come and gone since then, and a whole host of new producers influenced by the High Contrast sound have come through the ranks. In 2004 he proved that he was still at the top of his game with his second long player 'High Society' - another collection of anthems including the massive 'Racing Green' and 'Basement Track' and now he's back to raise the bar once again, and take his sound to new heights.

'Tough Guys' features some exciting collaborations and guest performances, from the vocal gymnastics of Jazz wizard Ian Shaw to the legendary dance diva styles of Diane Charlemagne right through to the country tinged soul searching of Linda Gale-Lewis (sister of rock & roll legend Jerry Lee Lewis no less!)

'What We Were Told' ft Amy Kisnorb is your staple drum & bass roller, in overdrive. It's a twofold bass attack featuring wobbles and growls balanced with Amy's angelic vocals. We saw from our first three releases on Ish Chat Music that there is still a very keen appetite for forward-thinking drum and bass music and that its home was once again showing itself to be a darkened room with a big sound system, full of people. Things have become really exciting again. The last few years of working completely independently has put us back in touch with the purity of drum & bass and the core ideals that are at the foundation of the genre - the independent, f**k you attitude that doesn't conform to major label models, and isn't all about profit — it's about art, experimentation, and counter culture. We wanted to latch onto that ethos and run with it, trying to capture that vibe in an album.We have tried to collaborate with people who also live their lives by these same ideals and who share the same values. From the musical collaborators to the visual artists we have brought in to work on the accompanying artwork, we have sourced our collaborators carefully, working with friends where possible and seeking out like minded, fresh talent where necessary.As with every Ish Chat Music release, it's been a really steep learning curve. We Are The People weaves mellow and uplifting piano chords with a strong verse from Cleveland, switching to Fats for his lick to cut into a heavy drop. Weighty wobbling Jungle subs, peppered with warm synth bass melodies carry this summery roller through, with both vocalists complimenting each others flavours stylishly. A blissed out dreamy breakdown gets you chilled for a switch back to the second drop bassline, going low and long with the subs. A chilled summery feel good vibe, with some backbone!

Midnite Classic, rolling in a heavy reggae skank loop for the intro sets a great backdrop for Cleveland's very catchy lyrics and melody. Switching to Fats for a minimal DnB build up and dropping with his renowned vocal style cutting over the bassline on a Junglist style drop. A classic old skool feeling but still with a fresh modern edge, this is an addictive club tune, capturing raw vibes that are always needed in the dance.

* Originally released in 2006 over a series of 10" vinyls, and accompanying CD, Tectonic Plates Volume 1 became a hugely important landmark in the evolving soundscape of the emerging dubstep scene at the time. The compilation features an all-star line up and includes many formative classic tracks by scene-defining producers of the era.
