BIOSFERA is the first electronic conceptual release from Oscar Mulero available from Detroit Underground. After twenty years on the road as international ambassador of techno, BIOSFERA marks a return home for Mulero.
BIOSFERA is comprised of six experimental soundscape compositions each inspired by a different Autonomous Community in the Principality of Asturias - the mythical, semi-mountainous region on Spain's north-west coast. The result is an exceptionally rich aural tapestry of lush spatial environments from one of the world's foremost techno producers.

Two years and 13 releases since its first installment, Night Slugs present the second volume of our Allstars compilation series. To be released on CD and digital, it's a consolidation of our activity during 2011-2012 as well as a glimpse into some of what's lined up for 2013.

That Allstars Vol 2 plays more as an album and less like a compilation, despite its various contributing artists' diverse styles, is testament to the gradual collective process of evolution that we have been undergoing since the label's inception in early 20

Allstars 2 charts Night Slugs' move away from the early-digital world in which our music spent its infancy, and into a more developed, more textured universe.

Proceedings open with the "Street Mix" of L-Vis 1990's 2011 single "Lost In Love", a collaborative rework by Jam City, Bok Bok and L-Vis himself, that sets the tone for what's to come: a combination of emotionally-charged intimate zones and agile, austere workouts of drums and bass that permeates this release. Many of the songs here can be considered trax, love songs, pop songs all at once, because we believe club music can be no less than all those things.

Allstars Vol 2 traverses many territories, from Girl Unit's replicant Latin Freestyle on "Ensemble", Lil Silva's percussive half-time banger "The 3rd", the dread-vogue of Kingdom's "Stalker Ha" to the uniquely warm stadium-size Club of Jam City's "How We Relate To The Body", exuberant carnival techno on Helix's "Drum Track" (seeing digital release here for the first time) and the chrome-plated modern grime classic that is Bok Bok's original mix of "Silo Pass". Yet the threads that link these apparently disparate tracks together far outweigh their differences and make for an immersive long-playing experience.

Night Slugs is about looking simultaneously forwards and backwards, and so Allstars Vol 2 debuts several brand new tracks. L-Vis 1990 contributes "Not Mad" from his forthcoming Ballads EP - a spacious workout of high-tech funk, laserbeam disco synth stabs, huge electric bass and claps on the one. Kingdom gives us "Bank Head", a club track in suspended animation that slowly unfurls, snap percussion and rolling bass bathed in a golden pad chorus. Egyptrixx gives a hint of the direction of his 2nd LP on the seismic deconstructionist, no-kickdrum techno of "Adult". Girl Unit expands the much-discussed outro of his warehouse-filling rap beat "Double Take" into a fully-fledged song of its own on "Double Take Part 2", with anthemic results. Finally, newest Night Slugs recruit, Kansas City's Morri$ contributes "White Hood", marrying the skittering 808s of Southern rap with sumptuous layers of melody that bring Allstars 2 to a fittingly epic close.

The Radioactive Orchestra is a 'scientific musical translator' based on our current knowledge of the structure of atomic nuclei in nuclear physics. Using the Radioactive Orchestra, we can create melodies and rhythmic patterns that are based on the nuclear energy levels and gamma radiation observed in experiments at accelerator laboratories around the world. Radioactive Orchestra Remixed is the result of a competition held by Studio Barnhus, KTH Royal Institute of Technology and KSU. Using Radioactive Orchestra's online music composer, contestants were able to submit their own compositions. The two winning contributions, by The ZZZZZ and Abdulla Rashim, have been remixed by Âme and Jonsson/Alter.

Since its inception in 2001, each entry in the POP AMBIENT series has included its year of conception in its title, an irony in the fact that many consider the music being timeless in more than one way: a feel-good classic to some, a rigorous experiment to others, POP AMBIENT always has located itself between the poles of habitual listening and sonic curiosity, with the space in-between beats being a way more interesting material than the beat itself. As in the years before, POP AMBIENT 2013 collects an illustrious cast of producers uniting genre pioneers alongside old friends and some surprising new arrivals.


LEANDRO FRESCO certainly is a long-standing contributor to the series, which is why he gets to kick off Pop Ambient 2013 in wonderfully lyrical fashion with the 'tears of the morning sun' in CUANDO EL SOL GRITA LA MANANA, an awakening track that tries to rub the sleep out of its eyes while it blinks at outer space. A rather unusual suspect is introduced with MICHAEL MAYER, who - just like Superpitcher in 2012 - delivers his Pop Ambient debut: originally, SULLY was the congenial opening track for the highly praised 'Mantasy' full-length, but evolves in the remix of Pop Ambient curator WOLFGANG VOIGT who nevertheless manages to keep the distinctive texture intact and brings a GAS-eous vibe into the original.


Already a Pop Ambient staple under his Popnoname monicker, JENS-UWE BEYER contributes a concrete hymn with DEUTZ AIR 2, while Jörg Burger aka TRIOLA pays tribute to French director and co-founder of Poetic Realism JEAN VIGO, exploring the limits between synthetic and 'natural' sounds. MARSEN JULES returns with POINT OF NO RETURN, an impressive track seemingly illustrating glaciers trembling under the weight of a giant's foot, whereas MIKKEL METAL puts the music under a burning glass in his intensely focused RECOMBINATION, not without spotting a hint of a beat in its steady pulse. ANTON KUBIKOV, also known as SCSI-9, follows up with AMBIANOPOLIS, where he has a wailing piano telling the story of legendary cities engulfed by the sea.


WOLFGANG VOIGT's iterative project RÜCKVERZAUBERUNG sees its seventh embodiment on Pop Ambient 2013: still swimming upstream, these sounds reveal not so much a painting musician or vice versa, but a hidden sculptor carving the arrangement out of his samples. The result is massively sensual abstraction between harmony and dissonance. A penultimate offering comes with LEANDRO FRESCO's second contribution to Pop Ambient 2013, the masterful EL CRUCE IMPOSIBLE, where a haunting drone resolves in painfully beautiful chords, followed by the new project by Jörg Burger and Matias Aguayo TERRAPIN

Zwar trägt jede Ausgabe der 2001 gegründeten POP-AMBIENT-Reihe das jeweilige Erscheinungsjahr im Titel, doch sollte keinem Kenner der Materie die feine Ironie verborgen geblieben sein, daß man es hier mit in jeder Hinsicht zeitloser Musik zu tun hat: ein Wohlfühl-Klassiker für die einen, ein strenges Formexperiment für die anderen, verortet sich die Serie seit jeher im Spannungsfeld zwischen Hörgewohnheit und akustischer Neugier, interessiert sich weniger für saisonal bedingte Stil-Verwehungen und vor allem für den Raum zwischen den Taktschlägen, für das, was von der Bassdrum übrigblieb. Wie in den Jahren zuvor versammelt POP AMBIENT 2013 dabei eine illustre Produzentenrunde, in der sich neben Pionieren und gern gesehenen Gästen auch überraschende Neuzugänge finden.

Ein Mitstreiter der ersten Stunden ist natürlich LEANDRO FRESCO, dem somit auch die Ehre des Anfangs gebührt: sein CUANDO EL SOL GRITA LA MANANA eröffnet Pop Ambient 2013 überaus lyrisch mit den 'Tränen der Morgensonne', ein soeben erwachender Klang, der sich noch den Schlaf aus den Augen reibt, während er in das All hinausblinzelt. Zu den eher unüblichen Verdächtigen hingegen gehört MICHAEL MAYER, der hier - genau wie Superpitcher in der 2012er Ausgabe der Reihe - sein Pop-Ambient-Debut abliefert. SULLY, ursprünglich der kongenial inszenierte Opener des hochgelobten 'Mantasy'-Albums, wechselt im Remix von Pop-Ambient-Kurator WOLFGANG VOIGT in einen gasförmigen Aggregatzustand über, verliert dabei jedoch niemals die charakteristische Textur. Ein alter Bekannter im Pop-Ambient-Universum ist JENS-UWE BEYER (alias Popnoname), der die konkrete Hymne DEUTZ AIR 2 beisteuert, gefolgt von Jörg Burger als TRIOLA, der dem französischen Regisseur und Mitbegründer des poetischen Realismus JEAN VIGO Tribut zollt und dabei die Grenze zwischen synthetischem und 'natürlichem' Klang erkundet. Im Anschluß
illustriert MARSEN JULES mit POINT OF NO RETURN das Erzittern des Gletschers unter den Schritten eines Riesen und setzt so einen beeindruckenden dramatischen Höhepunkt. Musik durchs Brennglas hingegen zelebriert MIKKEL METAL, dessen fokussiertes RECOMBINATION einen Puls am Rande des Beats ausmacht. ANTON KUBIKOV aka Scsi 9 lässt dann in AMBIANOPOLIS ein anklagendes Klavier von legendären Städten berichten, die das Meer verschlang.

eigenen Strom. Weniger ein musizierender Maler, noch umgekehrt, darf man im Voigt'schen Ballett auf dem Vulkan den Duktus eines geheimen Bildhauers erkennen, der sowohl Ton als auch Bild wie eine Skulptur formt. Das Ergebnis
ist massiv sinnliche Abstraktion zwischen Dissonanz und Harmonie. Die vorletzte Runde wird von LEANDRO FRESCO's zweitem 2013er Beitrag EL CRUCE IMPOSIBLE eingeläutet, einem zuerst abwartenden Drone-Konstrukt,
welches sich schließlich in schmerzhaft schönen Akkorden auflöst. Den letzten Ton hat TERRAPIN, das neue Projekt von Jörg Burger und Matias Aguayo
einen Blick zurück wirft und als insgesamt erst zweites Vocal-Stück der Pop Ambient-Reihe den perfekten Epilog liefert.

The first release from Matthew Burton and Kate Rathod's new vinyl only label Shifted Flow sees a 5 track EP from the pair. Matthew & Kate started the label to allow them to release their more diverse material, so the EP ranges from ambient and electronica on one side to 2 solid techno tracks on the flip side. This release shows the versatility and range of their unique take on electronic music. Look out for future releases on the label with collaborations with BLM and Nick Lawson .

Ney Faustini completes the half-dozen on Foul & Sunk, celebrating the dawn of the dark season with an EP whose three pieces will provide relaxation, energy and joy on the dance floors. Born and raised in the Brazilian metropolis of Sao Paolo, Faustini begins his biography with fast music and broken beats, before his path led him to deep, bouncing house music. Maybe it's the British bass music, maybe it's the endless view over his city to the Atlantic Ocean that he used as a source of inspiration for this loosely woven, barely tangible tapestry of sound, that lines the background of his three pieces "Sleepless", "The Name Of The Game "and" No More Chances". This giving the EP its meditative character, Faustini reinforces it all with prancing percussion on "No More Chances", as well as warm piano and organ keys in the background of "The Name of the Game". But the "Sleepless EP" doesn't limit itself to head dance music: an organic bass groove flows through all three pieces, stimulating our energy cycle with pulsating pressure. This comes to its full potential in the eponymous title track, and is truly the motto of Foul & Sunk: Quality music for your dancefloor.

Andrey Burtaev aka Electrosoul System is one of the most popular and successful Russian drum & bass

It's been four long years since Glissando released the critically acclaimed 'With Our Arms Wide Open We March Towards the Burning Sea' and the duo finally return this November with a new record 'The World Without Us'.

The new material bares Glissando's trademark of ethereal voices and tip-toing piano melodies but the overall sound is richer and more expansive. Epic swells of strings and guitars sore above the drones and field recordings to create an intense yet fragile noise. The dynamics of the new record are also apparent and through the use of an array of guests there is a new depth and ambition to Glissando that portrays the songs in their truest form. 'The World Without Us' moves slowly between dark shadows and into more hopeful territory throughout, it's not afraid to be silent when the moment arrives but it's also capable of enormous, echoing, choral and string crescendoes in one subtle movement.
Since Glissando's debut in 2008 Elly May Irving and Richard Knox have experimented with countless different live set-ups and members ranging from simple, more immediate shows as a duo through to a 7-piece group. Never tied to a specific ideal of how to play the material, it enabled the group to tour heavily for a couple of years in the UK and Europe whilst recording a follow-up album but inevitably this process took it toll. Knox began new projects; 'The Rustle of the Stars' (with Frederic D. Oberland of FareWell Poetry) and later A-Sun Amissa (which also features regular Glissando member Angela Chan) which weighed heavily on the amount of studio time he could commit to Glissando.

May 2012 saw the decision of Irving and Knox to finally complete the record they had been tentatively working on for four years and the final stages came together relatively quickly. Knox produced and pre-mixed the record in his own Cloud Blunt Moon studio in Leeds before heading to Paris to complete the final mixing session with Oberland at his Magnum Diva studio.

The material on 'The World Without Us' stretches back the full four years with the likes of The Long Lost and Of Silence which previously featured on a highly limited edition double-A-side single. The title track is also an older song which has been morphed and reworked over the years. The duo knew these songs were too strong to leave off the record and pushed to find ways of hitting the same standard with the newer tracks like 'Companion' which is almost Scott Walker-esque in the vocal delivery, marking a dynamic change in the way Irving is using her voice.

The occasional fisherman and graduated psychologist Vlad aka Monokle is responsible for the third LP on Ki Records. The Title of the Record is "Saints" and it will be available on Vinyl, CD and Digital. It's already the fifth LP release for the 26 year old producer from St. Petersburg. He's been making music since the mid-00s and has a massive creative output. As he says, he takes his inspiration from silence and Eric Satie is one of his biggest idols. His favorite label is Warp, so it's no wonder that some of the nine tracks do have reminiscences with the British label (e.g. Holt Found, Arrows or Homesick). But instead of quoting the sound of his big idols, he gives it an individual touch and continues the evolution of that certain kind of sound. His main Influences were IDM and Glitch, before he became more in touch with Ambient and Drone. All these different influences can be heard as sound fragments in his tracks. Like in a kaleidoscope, these fragments unite; get torn apart and in the end melt together again. Monokle says that "Music with simple rhythms and catchy beats gets him bored pretty quick". So he got rid of static listening and producing structures, to go his own way when creating music. The Vinyl version of Saints got three bonus tracks in the form of remixes by Fybe:one, WOLS and Milinal. The illustrations for the cover were made by Argentinean artist Carolina Nino. Just like Monokle she works with different shapes and pieces, bringing them together in a new context.

Disquiet is the debut album of American composer, sound recordist and engineer Paul Corley. Disquiet is music that never settles. Music that makes the listener fiercely attentive to the present, to the very idea of listening. It takes some doing, and some patience, to produce an atmosphere so unearthly and yet so radiant, to organise fragmented - sometimes found - sounds into such sparse, sustained and spiritual coherence.

The same people behind Emotional Rescue launch as fine sister imprint in the shape of Emotional Rescue, with a near perfect insight into how the label will operate thanks to Nzambi - a quite stunning full length album from Jason Letkiewicz under his Alan Hurst moniker. If you consider yourself an avid purchaser of vinyl, you will no doubt have added some Letkiewicz heat to your collection in recent times, with excellent releases as Steve Summers and Innergaze in recent times. The Alan Hurst project sees the Brooklyn producer in more laid back form, indulging his passion for library sounds and experimental electronics with just as much aplomb. Allegedly commissioned to soundtrack a film on modern Haitian Voodoo, Nzambi is a woozily intoxicating thirteen track set that opens your senses to a true darkness in this producer's palette of sounds that's not really been explored before.

Ornamented Walls' is the most intense, brutal and, in many senses, most substantial work from Dominick Fernow's Vatican Shadow project yet. Released to coincide with his first tour of Europe, the album incorporates the live mix rehearsals of 'Operation Neptune Spear' with tracks made in their aftermath, recorded straight to tape and mastered by Matt Colton at Air Studios.
Anyone familiar with Fernow's live setup will recognise the distinct nature of this material - making use of stems and partial tracks separated into a cassette system which is then relayered and mixed, effected with electronic processing.
In short - Fernow uses his tape machines like turntables in a mix, weaving a hazy and intuitive narrative of sounds that never quite head in the direction you expect, all imbued with an almost feral attitude that's exhilarating to witness, their limitations (ever noticed how VS tracks end so abruptly the tape ran out), and their mechanical machine qualities used to devastating effect.
Side A features all three parts of 'Operation Neptune Spear' originally made available in a measly edition of 17 cassettes and sold at the first ever Vatican Shadow live show in L.A. back in May this year.
Side B features an additional 25 minutes of previously unreleased work made in the aftermath of the show and using the same setup, including an astonishing revision of 'Cairo Is A Haunted City' dis-assembled and re-wired, lending it a shortwave quality that's nothing short of revelatory.
'Ornamented Walls' is the fourth Vatican Shadow release to be made avilable on Vinyl, following on from releases for Blackest Ever Black, Type and his own Bed of Nails imprint.

a correction is the new album from Fieldhead and continues the dusty, bereft sounds of previous releases - they shook hands for hours (Home Assembly 2009) and riser (Gizeh 2010).
2010 saw Paul Elam depart the UK for Vancouver, Canada and there is no doubt that the vast Northern Candian landscapes have influenced the new Fieldhead material. The familiar tape hiss, scratchy, decaying atmospheres remain in place but with a correction Elam has managed to sculpt a vaster, more expansive palate of sounds. Minimalistic on first listen, a correction is a record which slowly unfurls on multiple listens to reveal subtle melodies and details that don't distract from the overal ambience but in fact set apart Fieldhead's music from many other, safer artists within the genre.
The violin of Elaine Reyolds (The Boats / The Sea) adds a warmth to the sometimes desolate atmospheres and the almost contant pulse that remains throughout the record invites you be lost for the duration and even hints at more minimal techno direction at times.
Previous comparisions of Fieldhead's work have been made to the likes of William Basinski, The Caretaker and Grouper, which in truth are not far from the mark. It's fair to say Elam has already stamped his name in the ambient / drone field with his previous outputs and a correction should further enhance his reputation as someone who can seemlessly marry soundscapes and melody to form an enchanting, almost timeless piece of music.

Fuselab's first physical release - a vinyl 12" LP of Russian/Norwegian band Onego. Onego is Igor Bogdanov, Victor Shubin (both from Russia), Bernt Simen Lund and Gudmund Ostgard (both from Norway). These guys met together to bring this finest electronica album with natural Slavic and Nordic touch. And that's what "Bukhanka Dreams" really is: a thick sonic universe of glitchy rhythms, deep ambience and truly authentic melodies. Not just a fast-produced snack you know.

The parameters of musical possibility are vast on Valgeir Sigurðsson's third LP; Architecture of Loss. The music flows from no 'notes' at all to lyrical, folk-like melody, from spare, acoustic sound to dense digital intervention. Originally composed for the same titled ballet by Stephen Petronio. Architecture of Loss is a powerful work in its own right in which Valgeir works from a broad palette of absences.
The performers were handpicked from trusted Bedroom Community regulars: in addition to Valgeir himself and composer/keyboardist Nico Muhly, the album features classical violist Nadia Sirota - her sound is as deeply individual and immediately recognizable as the sound of her speaking voice and takes full possession of the notes on the page—and multi- instrumentalist Shahzad Ismaily - a secret weapon of a sideman who excels at exactly the things you can't put down on paper, from solid grooves to scribbles of noise.

Sam KDC's follow up to his ground breaking previous Symbol 12" has arrived, expanding on what he threw down on #3. 3 stunning tracks of elegant melodies and harmonious puddles of sound paint the picture.

Man denke an WhoMadeWho, Jatoma, When Saints Go Machine oder Kenton Slash Demon: sie alle teilen einen ähnlichen Sinn für strukturale Komplexität, erlebbar gemacht durch Emotion und puren Willen zum Floor.
