The Belgian party organisation and record label De:tuned mark their 10th anniversary with the first outing of their 10 x 12'' series. 'DE:10.01' kicks off with a special treat from the 90s golden era: on offer a welcome combination of previously unreleased DAT material by Kirk Degiorgio and expertly affectionate As One remix treatments of both original Sensurreal and Jedi Knights (Mark Pritchard and Tom Middleton) work, pure bliss.
The artwork of the first 9 collectable releases of the series forms a 3 x 3 poster display. De:tuned have called on designer Kevin Foakes (Openmind, DJ Food, Ninja Tune) to create all graphic work.
This kickstarter for the series is mastered by Matt Colton (Alchemy Mastering) and pressed on 180 gr vinyl. A separate digital version of every release will be available from the usual digital shops. Stay tuned!

Scanning Backwards, das zweite Soloalbum von Phase Fatale nach seinem 2017er-Debüt auf Hospital Productions, ist Musik über Kontrolle. Mittels der Verbindung von Klang als Waffe und psychologischer Manipulation als konzeptuelles Fundament, erforscht Hayden Payne Wege, auf denen Musik – und besonders Subbassfrequenzen – benutzt werden, das Denken zu beeinflussen als auch Emotionen und Verhalten zu synchronisieren: von Militärtechnologie zu Sound Systems zur Körperlichkeit und Sexualität queerer Technokultur.

Ausgehend von seinem innovativen Post-Punk-Ansatz zu Dance Music – nachzuhören auf seinen EPs für unterton und Ostgut Ton – bezieht sich der Berghain-Resident auf seinen Hintergrund als Gitarrist und Toningenieur. Daraus entstand auf Scanning Backwards eine berauschende Mischung aus gebrochener Rhythmik, Noise- und Shoegaze-beeinflussten Technos, oft mit langsamerer Gangart. Am Ende steht Musik mit Platz und Tempo zur weiteren Ausdehnung, das intensive Brausen von Frequenzen hervorhebend, die sowohl in der sonischen Kriegsführung und funktionaler Dance Music vorherrschen. Im Verlauf der acht Stücke, die eine Kombination aus historischen und fiktionalen Narrativen aus Literatur und Science Fiction im Titel tragen, ergründen Paynes rhythmische Exkursionen unterschiedliche Manifestationen von Klang als Macht – spezifisch im Sinne des Berghains als musikalisches Instrument. Dies reflektiert auch das Artwork des Albums: einem frühen Flyer der Partyreihe SNAX entnommen und offensichtliche Hommage an die Fetischisierung von Machtdynamiken.

In seinen eigenen Worten: „Alle Stücke dieses Albums, gleich welcher Stil, habe ich zugeschnitten, um auf ganz bestimmte Weise im Berghain zu klingen. Im Laufe der vielen Jahre als Tänzer inmitten des Dancefloors und auch während meiner DJ-Sets als Resident bemerkte ich, welche Frequenzen den Körper so richtig penetrieren. Das beinhaltet Sprache, Hochfrequenz- und Hirn-penetrierende Instrumentierung, Sägezahn- und Schlagbohrhammerästhetiken – die hatte ich bis dahin noch nicht so oft benutzt, denke aber, dass sie Einfluss auf das Denken und Gedächtnis haben. Das trifft besonders zu auf einen Ort, der schwule und Fetisch-Geschichte auf unerwartete Weise mit Musik kombiniert, auf fast kultische Art. Eine musikalische und physische Deinstallation und Neuprogrammierung, Psychic Driving und De-patterning, das Löschen und Ersetzen von Erinnerungen.“

Scanning Backwards wacht über die manipulativen Eigenschaften elektronischer Musik (Mantras, Loops, unterschwellige Botschaften) und wie Rhythmus sowohl Bewegung als auch das Denken in Einklang bringt. Ein Puls koordinierter Klang- und Hirnwellen.

Scanning Backwards, Phase Fatale’s second full-length album following his 2017 debut album for Hospital Productions, is music about control. Using the connection between weaponized sound and psychological manipulation as a conceptual foundation, Hayden Payne explores the ways in which music – and sub frequencies in particular – are used to influence thinking and to synchronize emotions and behavior: from military technology to sound systems and the physicality and sexuality of queer techno culture.

Known for his innovative post-punk takes of dance music as featured on EPs for unterton and Ostgut Ton, the Berghain resident draws on his background as both a guitarist and sound engineer to create a heady mix of broken rhythms, noise-, and shoegaze-inflected techno, often at slower tempos. The result is music with space and pace to expand, highlighting the intense rushes of frequencies found in both sonic warfare and functional dance music. Over eight tracks named after a combination of historical and fictional narratives from literature and science fiction, Payne’s rhythmic excursions explore different manifestations of sound as power – specifically within the context of seeing Berghain as an instrument itself. This is also reflected in the album artwork, taken from an early flyer for the SNAX party series and an obvious ode to the fetishization of power dynamics.

In his own words: “All tracks on the album, no matter the style, were tailored to sound a certain way in Berghain – something I figured out through years of dancing in the middle of the floor, DJing as a resident and investigating what frequencies really penetrate the body. This includes speech and high-frequency, brain-penetrating instrumentation and drilling textures that I had not utilized so often before, but which I think also have an effect on thought and memory. It's especially true in a space where gay and fetish roots combine with music in unexpected ways, almost in a cultish manner. A musical and physical deprogramming and reprogramming, psychic driving and de-patterning, the erasing and replacing of memories.”

Ultimately, Scanning Backwards surveys not only the manipulative properties of electronic music (mantras, loops, subliminal messages) but also how rhythm facilitates both moving and thinking in synchrony; a pulse of coordinated sound- and brainwaves.

Concerts by successful musicians often have an air of church-mass: Fans pay homage to their idols, hailing them, giving the impression of following them blindly. Parov Stelar, a globally successful musician from Austria, is one such artist. Is this art of seduction a kind of Voodoo, Black Magic even? Who can tell? It makes no difference whatsoever, as to his fans Parov Stelar easily passes as a High-Priest of grooves, perfectly able to offset their frenzy.

In Voodoo, Bondieu, a higher being communicates to the masses through priests called Loas. Parov Stelar manages to do so with his music. The seed for „Voodoo Sonic“ had been sown. At the same time the idea to replace the conventional album with several EPs emerged as well, allowing greater musical freedom and the possibility to explore the many sonic landscapes of „Voodoo Sonic“.

„Go Wake Up“ is the first track coming from the Parov Stelar Voodoo-universe. The song is a close collaboration with Lilja Bloom who has been more than Parov Stelar’s muse for a long time. And in true Voodoo fashion the song’s groove grabs you immediately, never letting go again.

„Voodoo Sonic“, the EP’s title track, with its compelling samples is pure Parov Stelar, driving and danceable whereas Q-Tip (of A Tribe Called Quest fame) emerges as quite some Voodoo-seducer in „Number One MC“. With „The Fall“ the EP comes full circle as it is another collaboration with Lilja Bloom. It’s a cinemascope-like sound that truly marks the song as something special. The title comes from a line in “Reserve the Right” – “We are family, I’ve got my possee and me, we’re fruit from the underground tree” the last track on the album, a rambling rap covering many subjects from climate change to data collection all written under the influence of a heavy hangover, where I foolishly decided it would be a good idea to get back on the mic. Al Storm and Diakronik follow up Timeless Volume 1 with the surprisingly titled Timeless Volume 2, and in many ways it mirrors the awesome sound of the first EP. Still rocking out with BIG piano lines, tough breaks and huge stabs, all three tracks mirror the hands in the air euphoria of late 1994 rave music. An absolutely classic sound for a classic EP!

* The original sister label to Ram Records from the old Ram HQ studio in Essex, Liftin’ Spirit Records now celebrates it’s 25th year with a special ‘RELOADED’ limited vinyl series of remastered classics, alongside rare and previously unreleased tracks since the beginning in1992.

* DATs from artists such as Andy C, Ant Miles, Shimon, Joint Venture, Interrogator and Red One have been located in the archives. Also from the Ram & Liftin’ HQ came tracks for the Deep Seven label in 1993 and all these rare DAT masters have been located and now re-cut by Simon, the original Ram & Liftin’ vinyl masterer at ‘The Exchange’. Initially, Deep Seven remasters will present on a printed white label and unreleased tracks will have a black label.

* Midway into their 1993 run on Deep Seven, Desired State produced another Hardcore Junglist smasher 'Timebomb' under a new moniker of ‘CO2’, which later morphed into their alias ‘Concept 2’ on Ram Records. Exploding bass and breaks tear out across the soundscape, continuing into the part 2 ‘Fuze’ mix on the flip side. Remastered from the original DAT and presented as part of our 'Reloaded' series.

Eureka!'s 6th long-waited release is by Russian craftsman Lay-Far, who has been releasing great tracks on Local Talk, Soundofspeed, Razor-N-Tape just to name a few.

The A-Side opens with the raw sound of 'All Massive' - you'll hear Lay-Far's characteristic organic sampling blended with Jungle-influenced beats and heavy stepping sub-bass.
Following is A2 'Naive' - more of Lay-Far's specialty downbeat house tracks with nods to warm Brazilian music.

On the B-side it's all about the sounds of the past - starting with the funky broken beats of 'Heartfelt' produced back in 2011 and continues with 2014 unreleased dub remix version of 'Where Would We Be' originally by DJ KAWASAKI feat. Paul Randolph from Detroit and Makoto who's been instrumental in Japan's Drum & Bass movement.

Tony Pegas and Don Corrieri’s Gargoyle Records was active between 1995-1997. Based in Baltimore they released seven killer records under various aliases. I absolutely adore their super raw production style. Every track has got character for days and is packed to the brim with East coast attitude.

We’ve picked four tracks from across a couple of EPs for this Iirst reissue which all bang to the max and will Iit into quite a variety of club circumstances. On top of that there is a ridiculously sick Iifth track (Do You Believe) that was written during that time but never released. Potentially my favourite one of the bunch I am super excited to be able to get this one the release that it always deserved.

There will be a second EP to follow so keep your eyes peeled...

EP number eight of the "10 Years De:tuned" series is centered around the 303 tinged acidic sound. This release kicks off with a new and innovative version of Humanoid's highly ranked and major influential classic acid house cut, followed by a proper rave peak time slammer courtesy of Mike Dred. The B-side brings Luke Vibert's grinding acid funk rhythm to the table, plus the squelchy "Strunkelpotz" produced by the cult duo Air Liquide, resulting in a broader spectrum of acid-referencing styles with the same brain-melting effect!

Kevin Foakes (Openmind, DJ Food, Ninja Tune) created all the graphic work. Mastered by Matt Colton at Alchemy Mastering and pressed on 180 gr vinyl. Stay tuned!

Detroit's Filthiest closes his past (private stock) present (prime cuts) and future (premium content) trilogy, celebrating 20 years of Motor City Electro Company's excellence together with Casa Voyager presenting his outstanding electro funk works

With 25 years of mercurial electronics under his belt, it's a joy to welcome Edinburgh's Dave Paton for Dream Ticket's fourth release. This is a clear-cut case of big things coming in small packages: on the A, both slices of elegant pressure level up mid-track into their evolved forms; while on the B, Miami bass and Texan electro continually mutate into ever more extravagant versions of themselves. 2-for-1 never sounded so expensive.

Industries Of The Blend is the latest project from Dj Luna-C, and it a step back into the original sounds of 1990 and 1991 old skool. Slower bpm and all hardware lead to an entirely authentic sound for this EP, and that authenticity continues with the style of sleeve (Spined like an old Euro EP) and in the overall concept. Proper underground, original, rave music. For those who know.

This leganday EP was originally entitled “No New Ideas” and was released as a very limited CD back in 2012. It is one of a very few Kniteforce catalogued releases that never saw vinyl. Each track on the EP has been rebuilt, and remade, with slight changes made to the tracks in either tempo or style, and is only available in limited numbers. Plus it has one new idea, for those that look for it….

New asset on the granted Future Me Records: up-to-date hostile trio project, nomads from the unknown suburb. 4 grungy ritualistic tunes building up a hedonistic code for the dancefloor.
Spectral fog on “Tuxedo” opening the EP, increasing the voodoo environment with “Lebabon”. It falls to the slow-erosion beat “Ancient Prog” to shut the A side. 

An obscure timbre marks the B side: it’s the stabbed rough track “Torpedo”!
Ending with the very radical Kluentah’s imprint assaulting “Torpedo” — crafting a nasty remix which whips out the deranged flesh of the original track.

A Unique EP of remixes from Kniteforce Head Honcho, Dj Luna-C. Each remix is firmly based in the vibes of the old skool, with the rolling basslines and touch of madness that is expected when Luna-C gets in the studio. The tracks were all chosen based on their ability to be folded into something both new and old, and then refashioned into something very different from the source material.

En Transito is a document of the evolution of the Ambien Baby collaboration between D Tiffany and NAP. An ode to friendship and creative symbiosis. The tracks on this record showcase the project from its beginnings in 2015 to present day.

Invigorating, skewered electronica and bristling, off-kilter techno drive the first release in 15 years by Dublin electronic duo Ambulance (Sunken Foal & Dave Nuremburg), delivering the first EP on the Open Ear label, the latest adventure in sound from the eponymously-titled Irish music festival.

Previously of Planet Mu and Front End Synthetics, the Ambulance project had been put on hold in any capacity this decade until 2017 when they were invited to close out the 2nd edition of the Open Ear festival, Ireland's leading experimental & alternative electronic music festival. Inspired by this performance, the pair returned to the studio and the first fruits of this labour make up the Combover EP. This also marks the first release by Open Ear on it's label which, like the festival, will serve as a platform for experimental dance floor & avant-garde music from the Irish underground.

Kickstarting with the sprawling, ever-evolving, glitched funk of "Caitríona Chéile", the tense, paranoid techno of "Douche Noir" then takes over with the following "Luxury Crackers" keeping the unsettling atmosphere pitched up before it opens up to reveal aslightlygentler side. The EP closes with the *Greasy* title track, a collage of shimmering synthesisers, jittery, free-wheeling drums and oddball sampling, all reaching for air at the same time.

This is the first of (hopefully) many of the classic Boombastic Plastic EPs to get the remaster and repress treatment. Unmissable piano and ridiculous beats are a staple of the Citadel of Kaos Sound, and this is the most desired of the hard to find EPs…

Nach einer fünfjährigen Auszeit, in der er sich ganz unterschiedlichen Musikprojekten widmete, kündigt Squarepusher sein nächstes Studioalbum "Be Up A Hello" an. Für das neue Album setzte Tom Jenkinson nach vielen Jahren erstmals wieder auf dieselbe digitale und analoge Hardware, mit der er in den frühen 1990ern seinen Trademark-Sound definierte. Die Verwendung der Vintage-Synthesizer und -Effekte (inkl. eines Commodore Vic-20) markiert eine radikale Kehrtwende für den Briten, der auf dem Vorgänger "Damogen Furies" noch komplett auf moderne Tools und die neueste Software setzte, von ihm selbst im Laufe von 15 Jahren programmiert und optimiert. Das Ergebnis klingt vor allem ausgelassen, wenn Tom astreine Breakbeat-Tunes wie "Nervelevers" und "Terminal Slam" – klassisches Dancefloor-Material – vom Stapel lässt. Düstere Tracks wie "Vortrack" und "Mekrev Bass" belegen derweil, dass er nach wie vor ein Faible für perfekt ausbalancierten Psycho-Overload hat. Insgesamt verweist "Be Up A Hello" auf die Ära der DIY-Raves in Essex, deren Ekstase, Ausgelassenheit und Hemmungslosigkeit die ganze Herangehensweise von Tom nachhaltig prägen sollten.
