Das zweite und letzte Studioalbum der Punk-Ikonen - X-Ray Spex. Das heiß begehrte Album wurde 1995 in einer sehr kleiner Auflage nur auf CD bei Receiver Records in Großbritannien veröffentlicht und war in den letzten 27 Jahren offiziell nicht erhältlich! Das Album vereinte die original X-Ray Spex-Sängerin Poly Styrene mit der ursprünglichen X-Ray Spex-Saxophonistin Lora Logic und dem Bassisten Paul Dean sowie dem Kula Shaker-Frontmann Crispian Mills an der Gitarre unter seinem damaligen Pseudonym Red Spectre. Das Reissue wurde von den Original-Masterbändern neu gemastert und ist zum ersten Mal überhaupt auf LP erhältlich! Mit dem originalen und erweiterten Artwork, einschließlich bisher unveröffentlichter Texte und originaler Cover-Notizen von Poly. Die Popkultur ist voll von klassischen Alben, die iregndwie durchrutschen. In den letzten Jahren haben die verstorbenen Poly Styrene und X-Ray Spex mit ihrem 1978er Debütalbum "Germfree Adolescents" Kultstatus erlangt, aber das 17 Jahre später veröffentlichte Nachfolgealbum "Conscious Consumer" ist im Sand der Zeit untergegangen. Heutzutage wissen die meisten Leute nicht einmal, dass X-Ray Spex ein Nachfolgealbum hatten. Diese liebevoll zusammengestellte Neuauflage rückt ein verlorenes Juwel ins Rampenlicht, das viele Merkmale des Debüts aufweist, aber durch eine andere Brille betrachtet wird. Conscious Consumer" war eine Weiterentwicklung des klassischen Debüts mit derselben Punkrock-Dringlichkeit und denselben Konsumthemen, aber mit einer poppigeren Kante und einer durchdachteren Weisheit, die aus der Perspektive eines älteren, weiseren Krishna-Anhängers aus den Höhen und Tiefen des Lebens geschöpft wurde. Im Jahr 1995 war das Album ein unerwartetes Comeback und wurde ein verlorener Klassiker. Es war das erste neue Material, das die Band seit Jahren aufnahm, obwohl viele der Songs bereits ein Jahrzehnt zuvor geschrieben worden waren. Nach der Veröffentlichung verschwand das Album jedoch schnell vom Radar, lang bevor Poly dihren verdienten Kultstatus erlangte. Die Band, die sich 1991, 1995 und 2008 neu formierte, wird heute weltweit dafür verehrt, dass sie eine neue Art von musikalischem Lebensgefühl ausgelöst hat. Destroyer ist das dritte Solowerk von DOWNFALL OF GAIAS Peter Wolff. Dieses Mal schließt er sich mit dem niederländischen Folksänger Jens Boogaard von Knifefight und dem Filmemacher Kai Lietzke zusammen, der bereits mit Peter am letzten Albumfilm ,Breath" zusammengearbeitet hat. Headliner A1 '77' dazzles in melodic glory paired with glitchy underfoot and a high-voltage wire running hot. Next, '88' lets it all loose with classic breaks twisted on its head and with its core intestines spilling out. Unexpected turns in this effect-heavy club composition recalls the phrase that "you've gotta know the rules to break the rules" and CPE is undoubtedly a master of that. '99' takes it further down South London style for the heads, while ambient closer '111' visualises the previously underscored oscilloscope in full spectrum.

Dunkeltier is back on wax, this time on the German label Reach Another System aka RAS Records. It comes as no surprise that it's a surprise box drawing from the bottomless pit that is the 80s. And again, these edits are closer stylistically to his dark side project boldly named GOTT than to his more gleeful mainstay alias Sneaker. The sources of these four obscurities are only revealed to the third ear of the knowledgeable digger, but let us give you a hint – gathered are Teutonic Titans, a Bauhaus offshoot and a digital symphony orchestra. Over the last couple of years, Morph and Bedside of Copenhagen have been engaged in the ambitious and on-going project Lightroom - a delicate exploration of male intimacy as a healing ritual against toxic masculinity. Working with more than fifty people to date, Lightroom has given birth to film, photography and music, and has traveled around the world at festivals and exclusive events, facilitating a continuous room for reflection on the concept and image of man - with the intention of decalcifying our ideas to create movement towards the new.

What remains when light fades ? Gil Barte, co-founder of Meth O Tapes and Kump Records, brings an answer in sketches with this new release. Faithfull to his previously developped style made of musical miniatures, he draws a diagonal throughout the abyssal void of the unknown.

As a catalogue of apparitions, « Transmutation » turns shadows into presence all along these pages, sometimes breaky, sometimes ritual, haunted with glitches and drones, reminding us enchanting sightings then losing us in sticky dark ambient margins, in a forest of walls with faces, in deep corridors, whispering under. Everything rustles here in spectral encounters, blurry, storyless figures barely named in titles. It's music for sleepwalkers, for those who know how to cross by to the other side, to the black screen of darkness and set what they have to give there.

“This one might’ve been in us from the start”, says John Hancock. He’s talking about ‘Echos’ - his, Becky Williams, Finn Bjarnson & Ryan Raddon seventh Late Night Alumni longform. Predominantly known for blending electronic and organic elements into their music, the album represents a departure from the band’s largely house-led sound. An all-acoustic affair, in many ways though ‘Echos’ is a natural extension of LNA’s DNA. “Most of our songs”, John continues, “are written in the organic/acoustic realm and then produced with electronic flavours to create our sound. In those intimate song beginnings though, there’s a magic all its own. We’ve long wanted to do an album that captured and augmented that initial intimacy.” Which is indeed what Becky, John, Finn & Ryan have now done. The quartet have dug back into their twenty-year, six-album history and selected eleven tracks that they felt could most benefit from this song-spotlighting treatment. With their original acoustic intros as cues, they’ve taken them to their natural conclusions. A Sliding Doors-type feast for LNA enthusiasts both new and established, or indeed all lovers of downtempo, downtime, live instrumentation-led music, ‘Echos’.

Released in 1975, "Continente Nero" is the perfect flip side of "Africa" (1972), an album that significantly expanded Piero Umiliani's music perspectives, incorporating partially explored rhythmic variations already used in "Percussioni ed Effetti Speciali" and "To-Day's Sound". It does so by taking inspiration from a tradition that starts from the divine Fela Kuti and reaches the amateur and field recordings by musicologists such as David Toop, but also from the Afro- American jazz history of Art Ensemble of Chicago, John Coltrane, Max Roach and hundreds of others.

Moving from the raw and mechanical rhythms of his past works, with this new moniker he is expanding his musical horizons by combining sub-aquatic bass, humid soundscapes and unstable rhythms.

The seven tracks of the album flow with some distinctive sound signatures, pitched-down vocals, heavy and slow kicks, fast percussions, eerie pads and analog bleeps.
The world of Nova Mundi is a mesh of cultures and influences, where the high temperatures have slown things down, the air is tense and where the most primordial instincts seem to have overcome any artificial intelligence.

DJ SOTOFETT REMAKES

DJ Sotofett remakes of the debut LP (Content To Write In I Dine Weathercraft, 1983) from Irish post-punk producer Stano. A whole load of styles on this one. TIP!

How this record came about has been lost a bit to the midst of (recent) time, back in 2018 when we repressed "Content to Write in I Dine Weathercraft" the 1983 debut LP of one of Ireland's more enigmatic musical characters - we slid it the way of the versatile Norwegian polymath who suggested a remix, which quickly became two and soon ended up a full suite. We put it aside for a bit, became a bit longer, then the artwork - pieced together by the Sex Tags boss himself cutting up features from Irish fanzine Vox - and the general lag of production in the post covid world and here we are the guts of 5 years later!

A member of the legendary punk / post-punk group The Threat which disbanded after lead singer Maurice Foley disappeared to join the Hare Krishnas, Stano set up his outsider stall early on. The Threat had Stano on synths, one of the first female bassists in Deirdre Creed and their debut single was produced by progressive trad musician Donal Lunny of Planxty. His solo career of improvised electronic music continued in this vein of the unexpected – sitting outside both the country’s mainstream and alternative rock scenes. Eschewing both live performance and the spotlight for studio collaborations for this LP he worked with a number of Irish musicians - Roger Doyle, Daniel Figgis and of course Michael O Shea.

This remix pack kicks off with the drum machine exotica funk of "Room" and runs the gamut of 80's pop experimentation via the new wave dream pop of "Emma Wild", dubbing out the haunted house vibes of "Seance of Klondalike", adding some menace to the gothic feel of "Melting Grey", stretching "Out of the Dark, Into the Dawn" into a skrangled baleric dubby house jam and closing it out adding a hypnotic repetitive punch to O'Shea's beautiful timeless playing on "A Dead Rose".

STBL is the alias of Spanish sound artist Jorge Ortiz de Pinedo. "Reflected" is his new LP for Gailur Records, an intense voyage from the roots of classic ambient to more experimental layouts very rich in textures and details. This unique mixing brings us a very special release of contemporary ambient music. This is the 4th release of Gailur Records.

The Earth is burning, covering all environments in ashes. Smoke comes to us from computers-from social networks accelerating the spread of burnt affects, damaging our ability to feel and respond to what the planet strives to express. We need to cool down. Thomas Köner's music can help change the pace of our perceptions: 1) In DAIKAN (2002) - a Japanese term meaning "the coldest" or "the coldest part of the year"-the ear stretches until touching the depth of time that persists in the ice; a sonic drama offers the slowness thanks to which the skin of perceptions can reconstitute themselves; icequakes awaken listeners to the frozen life without scaring them. 2) Banlieue du Vide, considered by many to be Thomas Köner's most iconic audiovisual work and best kept secret, has not been released previously. It is in the collection of a couple of art museums, e.g. the Centre Pompidou in Paris, and has been awarded the Golden Nica at Prix Ars Electronica in 2004, in the category Digital Musics. Banlieue du Vide is the result of months of time-lapse observations of empty streets in the Finnish Arctic Circle, shown in glacially slow slow-motion. Phase cancellation, on which all noise cancelling technology is based, here affects the perception of time, the sense of the flow of time extinguishing itself. At this stage the void is not yet empty, traces of past noise fill the listeners mind with their haunting presence. A remastered stereo version of the soundtrack is released as a special premiere as Bonus Track of the DAIKAN album. Listening to this album, an excess of heat turns into an empowering coldness-like the transient feeling of our terrestrial embodiment in the midst of entropy.

Producer Tony Price returns to Telephone Explosion Records with his new “MARK VI” LP, an eclectic set of songs with a distinctly late-night feel. The album features 16 tracks of oblique drum machine funk, sizzling electro dubs and freaky public access TV atmospheres that spill into the streets with the combustible energy of a late night radio dance party before dissolving into a melt of bizarro techno-surrealist jazz by album’s end.

“MARK VI” is sixth full length from Mr. Price. This stretch of albums - “I Prefer Coca Cola” (2079), “Celica Absolu” (2018), “86’d” (2019), “La Vie” (2019) and “Interview/ Discount” (2020) - is a masterclass in uncouth production techniques, genre-melding and sonic satire. His production expertise has played role in breakthrough records from the likes of U.S. Girls, Young Guv, Ice Cream, the Badge Epoque Ensemble, Miss World, and Michael Rault, on labels like 4AD, Capitol Records, Burger Records, DFA, Slumberland, Run For Cover and more. In 2017 he founded Maximum Exposure, a record label and creative services unit tasked with providing top notch knob twiddling to the musical underground of the 2020’s.

His new record is named after the 1981 Lincoln Continental Mark VI that Mr. Price purchased off of a former radio DJ and archivist towards the end of 2020. In the trunk of the car was a bag full of cassette tapes of homemade mixes and radio show recordings from the late 1980’s that featured the kinetic clank of Detroit Techno, bombastic Def Jam instrumentals, TR-808 freestyle workouts, jacked-up Chicago House and hundreds of advertisements for outmoded products and redundant services. Utilizing early samplers like the Ensoniq Mirage, various drum machines and synthesizers, Tony ventured to create an album that celebrated the unabashed eclecticism, futurism and explosive production techniques of the music and commercials he heard on those tapes.
The crude and unrefined sonic source material that “MARK VI” is built from comes embedded with sizzle, hiss and hum. The messy leakage of parallel channels, telecommunication lines and metropolitan sound matter bleeds through in the spaces between beat and bassline. Foregrounding the auditory characteristics of the machinic unconscious, “MARK VI” is a celebration of the ghostly sonic artifacts from a time just before the future ceased to feel as though it were still in front of us.

Yosh debuts on Hot Haus Recs with a 4 track EP brimming with "UKG-Tinged-Break-Beat-Seduction". With a CV boasting releases on Dr Banana, Shall Not Fade, Lobster Theremin & Holding Hands - Yosh has a well crafted ‘knack' for absorbing the current vibe of the UK dance floor for both headz and feetz."

In ‘Syntactic Structures’ (1957), Noam Chomsky argues that language is unlike behavior, but is instead closer to the physical attributes of us humans. In short, once language penetrates the constellations of our physique, then it could be theoritized as empirical. Chomsky concluded that the human consciousness (at least in the syntactic context), is rather like a pendulum between two opposite poles: structural and creative. Its nature is generative and transformative. Free in metaphysical terms, yet bound by the natural laws of physics.

Though abstract and speculative, this idea serves as the point of embarkation for the creation of ‘Sintaksis’ by artist Aryo Adhianto. Grounded by a set of rudimentary rules and minimal orchestration, each composition stretches skeletal rhythmic clauses into free-flowing pulses and timbres. Such is the process of untangling the clot of negative energy present within the artist as an individual, simultaneously governed by ‘feel’ and performative aspects.

Despite the inward, expressionistic nature of ‘Sintaksis’, its diction is a direct bi-product of external factors. The accumulated distress and volatility that have become the fabric of normalcy in Jakarta urban conditions are present here in fluctuating sonic forms. This chaotic disposition questions the battle of narratives and the paradigm of the individual’s function in society while treading the path of a broad musical heritage with agility and virtuosic qualities.

Asian Dub Foundation is n°1 in the UK charts!

After an intense campaign on social networks, their protest song Comin Over Here, featuring comedian Stewart Lee, reached No. 1 on the UK single download charts on the very first day of Brexit!

The money raised from Comin’ Over Here will be donated to the Kent Refugee Action Network (KRAN), a charity that supports young refugees striving to live independent and successful lives in the community.

This incredible achievement led Asian Dub Foundation’s Steve “Chandra” Savale to exclaim:

“This is an amazing result for a leftfield track that satirises casual anti- immigrant rhetoric. It's struck a real chord with people because it's both a tough tune and funny which is a rare combination. We're happy that this unexpected pairing of one of Britain's most brilliant comedians and most consistently radical band has raised a defiant smile in very challenging times and it shows that there's still a lot of people out there that believe the UK should remain an open, progressive and welcoming place. Melody As Truth present “Melodies In The Sand”, a collection of works from Czech artists Irena and Vojtěch Havlovi.

The husband-and-wife duo began working together in the mid 80’s as part of experimental ensemble Capella Antiqua e Moderna, a unique association of musicians whose repertoire spanned various styles of European classical music.

With an inventive and unorthodox approach to both historical and modern compositional techniques and interpretive procedures, the Havel’s have steadfastly developed a unique and musically autonomous language which continues to expand to this day.

Spanning their early work in Capella Antique e Moderna to recent pieces recorded for Viola De Gamba, ‘Melodies In The Sand’ is presented to the listener with the simple aim of shining a light on these incredible musicians. Their work has within it the ability to penetrate and enrich the innermost corners of a perceptive human soul, a gift which they share with sincerity and humbleness.

L/F/D/M, aka Richard Smith, makes his debut on Osàre, exploring the more delicate side of his intoxicatingly abrasive sound. Gold Like Glass is razor-sharp and elemental, with each track cast from long passages of synth dissected into heavy edits. According to Smith, this composition process is akin to printmaking, where the ink on a series of images deviates from the original stencil, becoming looser, softer and increasingly ghostly. ‘After Whitney’ is haunted by peak time rave energy; the drums are disembowelled, leaving a rolling climatic melody, utterly euphoric and disorientating. The track is followed by ‘Blood Byze Leech,’ a thunderously jagged affair, and ‘Delicate Push’ that fizzles like an electrified spinning-top, its frozen melodies accompanied by a lolloping beat. Turning over to the B-side, ‘Plute’ winds its way into dark psychedelia while ‘m-two nine’ descends into the realm of mutant de-accelerated bleep techno. Combing the ciphers of hardcore, its cruxes and suspense, with the serrated edge of minimal synth EBM, Gold Like Glass presents an 
alchemical fusion of deeply danceable and cerebral noise.

Lyckle de Jong’s debut LP ‘bij Annie op bezoek’ captures moments of his encounter with Annie. An elderly lady in her mid 80’s, who has been living in quarantine for almost a decade.

The album has a cinematic feel and inherents several interludes of Annie singing her favourite ‘Schlager’ songs, recorded live in her living room. It feels like entering a different world - Annie’s world…

About fifty years ago, Annie met her husband at The Camera, a movie theatre in Leiden. Both were working there at the time. One day Annie had to get something from the projection-room. It was dark, so she wasn’t able to see much. All of a sudden she felt a hand on hers, but strangely enough, she didn’t startle. She felt something very special, a feeling that has never left her, up to this day. It was the hand of her future husband. Exactly then he told her he loved her and had done so from the very first time he had seen her. This was somewhat remarkable; Annie liked the guy, Seban was his name, but didn’t really know him all that well, moreover she was a couple of years older and he was a Moroccan muslim living in the Netherlands of the 1960s. Nothing terrible, but regrettably the ’60’s was a different time. They still married and moved into a brand-new flat apartment in the Merenwijk in Leiden. A flat and neighbourhood that has since lost its glory. Annie and Seban often vacationed together in a caravan. They went to Morocco together, where Annie met his parents. She converted to Islam, but in her own way. She doesn’t wear a headscarf for example, but did stop eating pork. Annie and Seban were together for just ten years. Though the briefness of this period had nothing to do with their love for each other. This love is still present, despite the fact that Seban passed away years ago. In the living room she has a black-and-white picture showing him sitting next to their German Shepard Camar, on the footballfield down from the apartment. Both of them look proud. Every day Annie looks at it, at the happiest time of her life. “If it were possible, I would take them back immediately.

Solo debut by multi-instrumentalist Manuel Chittka. The Love-Songs, Jungstötter and Pantha du Prince associated drummer creates two compositions of intimate beauty. EIGENMODEN is both, rhythm-based, and at the same time softly swayed by modular electronics. Making this release a personal and contrasting accentuation of contemporary Minimalism, Ambient and Jazz. The music was recorded in Hamburg-Altona and Berlin-Marzahn and mastered by Italian film composer Giuseppe Ielasi.

„A layered electro-percussive music that is supposed to flow in a tangible pulse and combines moving textures with detailed events. Mostly tuned metal percussion instruments like gongs, cymbals, or metallophones ring and sizzle together and unfold both meditative and noisy.“ Manuel Chittka

René Huthwelker’s solo performances emphasize minimalistic repetitions that are created foremost by analogue-synthetic spheres. 'IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII' is Huthwelker‘s solo debut in which he presents an insightful exploration of polyrhythmic networks, based primarly on the analogue synthesis of the Buchla system.

The story of this unexpected collaboration dates back to the summer and autumn of 1998 when Bryn Jones AKA Muslimgauze, the politically conscious music genius from Manchester, discovered Species Of Fishes' albums through the Dutch label Staalplaat. Jones embarked on a journey of reinventing the Muscovites' tracks, infusing them with hypnotizing noise pulsations that were both harsh and sharp, yet profoundly humane, while evoking ethereal Arab echoes.

The original remixes became the inaugural release on Species Of Fishes' self-titled label in 1999, with a limited circulation of 500 CDs. Another edition was later released in the United States in 2007 by Tourette Records, with a circulation of 1000 CDs. The first edition featured a selection edited from the original DAT cassette, accompanied by minor revisions, while the second one faithfully reproduced the entire studio session, providing insight into the creative process rather than focusing solely on the final result.

In this new reissue, Species Of Fishes have curated the tracks, discarding repetitions, unsuccessful takes, and technical pauses. The result is a more dynamic compilation that retains the core elements of the original work while reducing the total duration by almost half.

'Trip Trap', 'Some Songs of a Dumb World', and 'muslimgauze vs species of fishes' comprise three chapters of Species Of Fishes' album triptych, which unveils the originality of the Russian duo, pioneers of the unparalleled electronic scene who were ahead of their time.

Vision is a Swiss synthesizer band from Bern; formed by Olivier Georges and Stephan Moser. Their true passion is to produce 80's style electronic music, blending elements of New Wave with Italo Disco and other genres from that period of time in the most authentic way possible. 'Midnight Passion' is VISION's debut single.

XOLOT is a mexican-french duo composed of Vica Pacheco and Apulati Bien, both sound and visual artists based in Brussels. They present on Promesses their debut release: 'XOLOT', an eponymous 6 track EP where Vica’s warm voices and neo-bolero flow melt with Apulati’s cold and evolutive beats.
The result is 6 ovni songs somewhere between de-construct dancehall, minimal trip-hop and glacial R’n’B. XOLOT creates music in order to celebrate love, life and death. Their debut EP will be out on the 11th of June in digital and limited edition white vinyl (with a handmade silk-screened cover, designed by Eliott Grunewald).

"Smart & Loyal" is the first EP from Zulu, a Franco-Cameroonian producer and DJ based in Paris.

Through 4 titles, this EP reports a multitude of musical and symbolic references, cleverly mixing electronic, hip-hop, ambient and club elements, between asserted modernity and assumed nostalgia.

Beyond the unmasked reference to DJ Khaled, Zulu plays with musical and aesthetic codes throughout these twenty minutes, succeeding in reconstructing the club music of the past decade in his own way.

Zulu is a DJ and producer based in Paris and member of the Bruits de la Passion collective. Resident on the LYL webradio with his show "Explicit Content", he explores the different facets of rap and its subgenres around the world.

Inspired by its cultural mixing, Zulu strives to put music before genres. A music imbued with contrasts and oscillating between synthetic melody and sharp rhythms. His productions are a mix of hip-hop, breakbeat, club music and ambient influences, brought together in a sound that has a lot to tell.
