'Oase' ist das zweite Album des in Berlin ansässigen Progressive-Rock-Kollektivs Weite, und der Nachfolger des 2023 erschienenen Debütalbums der Band. Mit einer Laufzeit von fast einer Stunde nimmt das Album die Zuhörer mit auf eine komplexe und vielschichtige Reise, die vom Pioniergeist des Psychedelic Rock der 1970er Jahre inspiriert ist und Einflüsse aus "Canterbury Scene"-Prog, Krautrock, früher Electronica, Postrock und Americana vermischt. Man möge sich hierzu nur die über 10-minütige Vorab-Single 'Roter Traum' anhören.
Das neue Album zeigt Weites Fähigkeit, das Alte mit dem Neuen zu verschmelzen und einen eindringlichen, forschenden Sound zu schaffen, der von kontemplativ und pastoral zu riffig und düster wechselt, ohne jemals die Melodie zu opfern. 'Oase' zeichnet sich durch längere, weitläufige, atmosphärische Kompositionen aus, ist aber zweifellos kompositorisch durchdachter als das Debüt der Band. Mit dem Fokus auf Melodie, Textur und Stimmung - wenn auch nicht unbedingt immer in dieser Reihenfolge - kreieren Weite einen komplexen und meditativ klingenden Sound, der den Hörer einlädt, sich auf eine Reise durch wechselnde Klanglandschaften und sich entwickelnde musikalische Erzählungen zu begeben. Weite wurde im Winter 2022 in Berlin von Bassist Ingwer Boysen (delving) gegründet, der Schlagzeuger Nick DiSalvo (Elder, delving) und die Gitarristen Michael Risberg (Elder, delving) und Ben Lubin (Lawns) rekrutierte. Ursprünglich als einmalige Aufnahmesession gedacht, erkannten die vier eine offensichtliche musikalische Chemie und Gemeinsamkeiten und beschlossen, das Projekt in eine richtige Band umzuwandeln. Keyboarder Fabien de Menou (Perilymph) kam 2024 dazu. 'Oase' ist auf 180Gr. Pink-marmorierter Doppel-LP erhältlich.

Die Debut-EP ,Kingdom of Decay" umreißt in vier Songs alle Stilwelten, aus denen Silverships aus Hamburg ihre Inspirationen schöpfen. Der Desert Rock der 90er und 2000er bildet das Fundament des Trios. Viele Spuren von Queens Of The Stone Age finden sich in den Songs wieder, in den brachialen Passagen fühlt man sich an Kyuss erinnert. Auch Klangmalereien der 70er Jahre Pink Floyd tauchen immer wieder auf. Psych-Poppige Momente der frühen Tame Impala werden abgelöst von düsterer, fast beklemmender Atmosphäre, die den Vibe von The Doors einfängt und sich auch als Soundtrack eines noch zu drehenden Films wohlfühlen würde. Charakteristisch für die Band ist neben opulenten Arrangements und abwechslungsreichem Songwriting die Liebe zu B-Parts, die die Songs mit vielen Ausrufezeichen beenden. Hinter der kraftvollen Produktion steckt Hauke Albrecht, der mit Mountain Witch den letzten größeren Stoner Export aus Hamburg produzierte. Für das Artwork konnte die Band BEWITCHED Graphics bzw. Benjamin Nickel gewinnen, der mit seinen psychedelischen Arbeiten z. B. schon das Reeperbahn Festival versorgt hat.

Abschließender Teil 3 der NICHTS-Deluxe Reissue-Serie: Endlich gibt es das fast vergessene dritte Nichts-Album "Aus Dem Jenseits" von 1983 neu aufgelegt! Aufgrund von Umständen damals untergegangen und unerfolgreich, aber deshalb auch rar und zum Kult geworden. Enorm unterschätzt sowieso! NICHTS stellten sich 1983 neu auf und hauten mit Seite A der LP eine ungebrochene Reihe von sechs deutschsprachigen New Wave-Powerpop-Super-Hits raus, garniert mit den schon immer guten Postpunk-Texten von Sängerin Andrea Mothes. Deren Echos finden sich auch heute noch im aktuellen Gitarrenpop, New Wave oder der Neuen Neue Deutsche Welle. Mindestens Single "Venus Schenkt Dir Schöne Stunden (Horrorskop)" hätte ein NDW-Klassiker der besseren Sorte sein sollen. Seite 2 ist kaum schwächer. Nachdem die Band im Herbst 1982 nach zwei erfolgreichen Alben sowie den NDW-Hits "Radio" und "Tango 2000" ihre Tour beendet hatten, stiegen Gründungsmitglied und Gitarrist Meikel Clauss sowie Bassist Scarbeck aus. Doch Sängerin/Texterin Andrea Mothes und Schlagzeuger Tobias Brink waren noch nicht fertig mit NICHTS und spielten in neuer Besetzung das dritte Album "Aus Dem Jenseits" ein. Liveauftritt bei Mal Sondocks Pop Explosion, geplante Single-Auskoppelung und gebuchte Tour schienen den Erfolg fortführen zu können, doch es kam anders: Aufgrund einer Verletzung Brinks musste die Tour abgesagt werden, die Single wurde nicht weiter promotet, die Band löste sich alsbald auf und das Album wurde in der Folge zum Kultobjekt der Fans. Das von den ehemaligen Bandmitgliedern begeistert aufgenommene und abgenickte Remastering des Albums wurde in der Düsseldorfer Skyline-Tonfabrik von Kai Blankenberg gefertigt, dessen Dienste sonst u.a. von International Music, Boy, Madsen oder regelmäßig Udo Lindenberg in Anspruch genommen werden. Two years ago, after Covid sent the industry into a tailspin I made the sad decision to stop pressing Holding Hands records to vinyl. This was gutting as the label had been putting records out from the first release and it had always felt like an integral part of the label’s identity.

It sucked but I always hoped that in the future I would be able to feel confident in pressing records again and I am so happy to say that the time has finally come again!


Earth Trax popped into my inbox with some demos and I instantly knew there was something special here. The tracks are absolutely timeless and will do the business on any dancefloor from now until the end of time.

The A sides have more of loopy club quality that you could listen to all night. The sort of thing that you just lose yourself to when it comes on in the club. You aren’t sure exactly when it came on but you suddenly realise that you’ve been gurning with your eyes closed for some indeterminate amount of time. Basically, they’re very chewy loops (note to self: potential cereal idea).

The B sides have more of a...for lack of a better word, B side quality to them. They’re both broken and they make me want to move my body from side to side in a sort of jagged cool 80’s way. Ones to make you move and think at the same time.

OK enough of my blather. Go and listen to the damn things yourself and decide if you like them, rather than trying to work it out from reading a bloody press release you weirdos.

All four tracks are produced and sculpted for the club. They want big sound systems and dark rooms.

Die Franzosen Bryan's Magic Tears sind jetzt bester Shoegaze/Baggy/Madchester! Sommer der Liebe: den ersten haben sie nicht miterlebt, den zweiten haben sie studiert und den nächsten verplanen sie schon. Bryan's Magic Tears veröffentlichen ihr neues Album, Smoke and Mirrors, auf Born Bad. Auf den früheren Alben 4AM und Vacuum Sealed noch im Zentrum, rückt ihr Garagen-/Lärmvermächtnis ein wenig zur Seite, ohne ganz Abhanden zu kommen. Sie schwärmen von modischen Shoegaze-Oldies und geben gleichzeitig zu, dass es eine Vorliebe für All Saints haben. Der Name des neuen Albums ist treffend gewählt, denn es macht sich über Stadionmusik lustig und respektiert gleichzeitig deren Codes. Sieht aus und klingt, als hätte Shaun Ryder Liam Gallagher gegessen, schamlos Hits rausgehauen und sich dabei auf eine gut gebaute Soundwand gestützt. Die Platte ist stark von diesem typischen 90er-Shuffle-Beat geprägt, mit der die Band schon geflirtet hat...aber jetzt ist man ein Paar. Zwei Drittel der Tracks haben diesen Groove. Dazu ein Synth-Intro, dass wie ein Acid-Flashback von Underworlds ,Born Slippy" daherkommt. Das erspart den Franzosen eine Reise über den Ärmelkanal. BMT ist immer noch eine gitarrenlastige Band, aber mit einer ordentlichen und effeltvollen Trick- und Werkzeugkiste. Diese Platte, die sich von The Velvets zu Ride bewegt, bietet einen fetten Sound, der wie geschaffen ist, um die Arme auszubreiten, mit dem Kopf zu wippen und auf Festivals den Boden festzutanzen. Immer noch Musik, um Drogen zu nehmen, um Musik zu machen, um Drogen zu nehmen, um Musik zu hören.

30. Jahrestag der Veröffentlichung von „Sixteen Stone“, dem Debütalbum von Bush. Das Album von 1994 wurde zu einem Eckpfeiler des Alternative Rock der 90er Jahre und prägte die Post-Grunge-Szene mit Kult-Songs wie „Glycerine“, „Everything Zen“, „Comedown“ und „Machinehead“. Gavin Rossdales gefühlvoller Gesang und die raue Energie der Band trugen dazu bei, Sixteen Stone als ein prägendes Album dieser Ära zu etablieren, dessen Sound eine ganze Generation tief bewegte und bis heute beim Publikum Anklang findet.

Ohne es zu ahnen, gelang Keimzeit 1990 gleich mit dem Titelsong ihres ersten Albums "Irrenhaus" ein Wendehit. Die Textzeile "...Irre ins Irrenhaus, die Schlauen ins Parlament. Selber schuld daran, wer die Zeichen der Zeit nicht erkennt..." sprach vielen jungen Menschen damals aus dem Herzen. Norbert Leisegang erinnert sich noch gut an die Aufnahmen: "Wir hatten den Luxus aus 30 Songs 12 der besten Titel auswählen zu können. Da hat uns auch keiner reingeredet, das haben wir allein entscheiden können. Dann haben wir diese Songs quasi live eingespielt. Wir wussten erst gar nicht, dass wir zu dem Zeitpunkt schon im Radio gespielt wurden. Doch dadurch, dass das eine Rundfunk-Produktion war, haben sich die Redakteure von 'DT64"gleich nach Fertigstellung schon Songs wie 'Flugzeuge ohne Räder" und 'Mama" rausgepickt." Die Hörer waren begeistert und die Resonanz durchweg positiv. Der Startschuss für das erste Keimzeit Album war gefallen. Die Songs auf "Irrenhaus" haben auch heute nichts von ihrer Aktualität verloren. Der Hofnarr zeigt uns mehr denn je, die lange Nase. Solange neue und alte Strömungen wieder zum Angriff auf humanistische Werte blasen und die eigene Kultur in Haft nehmen wollen, sind Songs wie "Irrenhaus", "Hofnarr", "Flugzeuge ohne Räder" und "Mama" mehr als klingende Zeitbilder, Mahner dafür, dass man die Freiheit nicht geschenkt bekommt. Keimzeit gab zu Beginn der Neunziger Jahre mehr als 100 Konzerte jährlich. So verwundert es nicht, dass das zweite Album "Kapitel Elf" nicht lange auf sich warten ließ. Die damaligen Manager der Westberliner Plattenfirma Hansa baten die Band nach Veröffentlichung des 1990-er Albums recht zügig wieder ins Studio. "Kapitel Elf" auf Grundlage von Titeln, die die Band damals auch schon auf der Tour spielte. So darf man "Irrenhaus" und "Kapitel Elf" durchaus als sehr verwandt betrachten. Musikalisch ist "Kapitel Elf" breiter als das Vorgänger Album aufgestellt. So werden die beiden Alben nun erstmals als ein auf 1.000 Exemplare limitiertes Doppel-Vinyl veröffentlicht. Ob auf einem Segelschiff nach "Singapur", in einem Zug mit dem "Eisenbahner" oder für einen Städte-Trip nach "Amsterdam", mehr Keimzeit aus den frühen 90-er Jahren geht nicht.

On November 8th, 2Tone Records/Chrysalis Catalogue will release a 40th Anniversary Half-Speed Mastered Edition of The Special AKA 'In The Studio' album. This release has been liaised and approved by the band's founder and main songwriter Jerry Dammers. Formed in Coventry in the mid-1970s, The Specialswas the idea of musician Jerry Dammers, who brought together an eclectic array of individuals to fulfill his vision of a multi-racial band, fusing the energy of punk with the legendary but, at the time, often overlooked, sound of Jamaican ska. The band rose to prominence along with the 2Tone movement, which included two No. 1 singles, Too Much too Young and 1981's Ghost Town, which theme still resonates today before Terry Hall, Lynval Golding and Neville Staple left to form the Fun Boy Three and Roddy Byers left to tour with his band the Tearjerkers. The remaining members, Dammers, Bradbury and Panter, recruited guitarist John Shipley from The Swinging Cats, ex-Bodysnatcher Rhoda Dakar and lead vocalist Stan Campbell,reverting the original band name of The Special AKA and set to work on a new album. Released in 1984, 'In the Studio' was a brave mix of bold and challenging music, with a strong political, social and moral conscience. The album made it into the Top 40, and while it might not have been a huge commercial success, it was, and still is, an astonishingly unique work: a haunting, claustrophobic mix of lounge, soul, reggae, jazz and Arabic rhythms, with uncompromising subject matter. It featured two classic singles: the joyous, yet serious rallying anthem for the then imprisoned South African ANC leader, 'Free Nelson Mandela', and 'What I Like Most About You Is Your Girlfriend'. As time has gone by, the status of 'In The Studio'has grown, and today it is rightly viewed as a genuine lost classic. Like the previous two Specials 40th Anniversary vinyl editions, this has been newly remastered and cut at half-speed by Miles Showell at Abbey Road Studios, London. Format: Wide spine sleeve, 2LP 180gm Black Vinyl cut at 45rpm with insert inside and OBI.

MIchael & The Mighty Midnight Revival - Songs For Sinners And Saints", a ten song collection that provides a bookend to the 3 time GRAMMY winning MICHAEL era and puts the speculation about the aftermath of February 4 to bed. Killer Mike states "This is the epilogue to MICHAEL. This is what comes after Feb 4th. I had a year to live with MICHAEL and realized I had more I wanted to do with this sound before moving on."

Side A, "Record Shop," a sparkling pop/rock cut is a playful theme song for record shop employees, the track follows a fictional record store clerk through a typical day in the life of slinging records. Alluding to classic 70s songs from acts like Don McLean, America, and NRBQ, Video Age are right at home in the pantheon of great American songwriters. Side B is a reworked version of the recent LP's title track called "Out In The Country." Endonomos is the brainchild of Austrian multi-instrumentalist, producer and session musician Lukas Haidinger, who was mostly known for playing extreme metal in bands such as Profanity, Nervecell, Distaste and many more, but as a longtime ‘doomer’, he finally brought his sinister yet melodic sound to tape. Of what started as a one man's urge to craft menacing yet epic death/doom ‘funeral’ metal, turned into a full group of dedicated musicians in 2021 with their debut-album “Endonomos” (2022) as a result. The A-side kicks off with 'Beat Heat', a driving filter house monster underpinned by dubbed-out percussion, playful vocal interjections, and infectious disco stabs. Following up is 'RGRT', which delves into a deeper vibe with slick jazz samples and a pulsating filtered bass line. The B-side brings 'The Instigator', a tension-filled mind melter perfect for early morning trippiness, featuring Rhythms Of Prescott's masterful sample manipulation and unique wonkiness.

This release showcases Rhythms Of Prescott's raw approach and jackin' sample manipulation to rock any dancefloor.

Recorded by McIlroy’s long-time friend and musical associate, Big A, the songs are laden with cracked harmonies and homemade instruments, including found materials used as percussion. The pair drew on the talents of fellow travellers for backing vocals and rhythm tracks which has resulted in the live outfit expanding to a three piece, with Ben Price (bass) and Charlie Garson (drums) on board.
Commenting on the writing process McIlroy explains:
“It was written during a period of madness and adverse offending behaviours. The songs dash from one theme to another and reflect the mistaken beliefs we cling to when our perceived realities are threatened. It’s also got jokes.”
Opposing a streaming culture that values top tracks and playlists, the record is intended to be heard in one sitting, with Side A showcasing more extroverted songs, in all their loudmouth braggadocio, and Side B being more introspective and honest.

Gavin Vanaelst runs the space Aboli Bibelot in Antwerp where exhibitions and musical performances can happen side to side with dealings in centuries-old furniture and unique pieces of folk art or volkskunst. Gavin makes music under the aliases DJ Charme, Kassett and So Sorry. This is the first album under his birth name. Takeaway Loops cycles back to the days when Gavin was working as a courier for .

is a food delivery company. Their couriers - ehm, brand ambassadors, as the company prefers to call them - dressed in bright orange, they race their bikes around the city. They deliver meals and groceries for all sorts. Thanks to them, the privileged can stay tucked in their private spaces. Interaction between the two groups - the privileged and the brand ambassadors - is mostly kept to the bare minimum. And sparse communications are often driven by annoyances - “my Coke is warm because you kept it too close to the French Fries.” And on the streets the general public dis-approaches the brand ambassadors with pity. We tell our peers: “That’s not a good job,” and “stay away from the Sharing Economy.” Because, you know, in our capitalistic dollhouse we all stand our grounds and play our parts wholeheartedly.

During his shifts for , Gavin recorded location sounds on his phone at fast food restaurants while waiting on the orders he had to pick up and deliver. Later in his home studio Gavin added piano and electronics to this source material. The result: a gloomy soundtrack for a shadow world. Seven songs in evening blue with a bright orange glare.

A few years ago, our favorite Belgian publishing house Het Balanseer released Seizoenarbeid by Heike Geissler (available in English trough Semiotext(e)). Geissler writes about her job at Amazon in Leipzig. Because her writing and freelance work did not pay the bills any longer, she was forced towards this underprivileged shadow-world of unwanted jobs. Seizoenarbeid shed a light on freedom in an unfree world. A monument of ‘we are all in this, but not together’. Takeaway Loops gives us a similar peak in a world that is at the same time so visible, but then also very veiled for many. A world that we prefer to use, yet that most of us prefer not to see - a world that we don’t like to enter.

Last year at Harbourland subway station in Kobe i was mesmerized by its sound design, created by Hiroshi Yoshimura. For each part of the subway station he composed a short phrase. While walking trough the station, a full composition grows in your head. The looping melodies guide you trough a microworld. Trough a blue world of commuters, of the homeless, of the lonely, of the fast paced, of the tourist. Gavin creates a similar effect with Takeaway Loops. The tonality somehow corresponds to Yoshimura’s work. Yet instead of being guided trough a building, we are now taken to the after dark. You feel the concrete evening heat of the city. You hear the rain. Stiff fingers during cold winters’ nights. You are alone on the bike, cruising. Your maps app telling you where to go. You just left the fake leather bench of the well-lit pastiche interior of a fast food restaurant.

Thematically, it's a little different. The last one centered a lot on religion and this one is, as the title says, about the human condition; cruelty, ignorance, and inhumanity and brutality. Just the things that man has shown to be so adept at doing.” "Our goal in EXODUS is just basically to defy time, to defy age, to have every album just get more furious and more angry and more intense. A lot of people will ask me things like, 'EXODUS is achieving a lot of popularity again, do you think it's due to thrash metal coming back?`and I say, 'No. I think thrash metal's coming back because of EXODUS.'"
