Es übernahm Karl Agell (Lie Heavy, C.O.C., Blind) die Vocals, unterstützt von The Skulls Ron Holzner (ebenfalls Ex-Trouble) am Bass, Lothar Keller an der Gitarre und Henry Vasquez (Druma), wobei Scott Little an der Gitarre und David Snyder (Trouble, BlackFinger) noch mit an Bord waren. Texte über Hoffnung und Geduld krönen einen flüssigen, schweren Groove und ein knackiges Refrain-Riff in aufrichtiger Metal-Manier. The new Bishop 88 imprint hits gold from the off here as they offer up an edit of 'Last Night Changed It All' by Esther Williams, a track famously sampled by numerous artists like Boogie Down Productions and Public Enemy. It is a drum-heavy version of a funky tune with conversational melodies and blissful soul vocals next to swooning strings. On the flip is an edit of 'I'm Gonna Love You Just A Little More, Baby' - originally by Kellee Patterson - which itself is a rendition of Barry White's original. These are classy and sophisticated soul sounds for serious heads.

Die erste Hälfte der Compilation besteht aus zwei Teilen, wobei die erste Hälfte Songs enthält, die ursprünglich als Test für das Einspielen des
Equipments aufgenommen wurden, bevor die Band ihr bahnbrechendes Album "Prowler In The Yard" veröffentlichte. Die zweite Hälfte des Materials
enthält Songs von den kultigen Splits mit Gnob und Benümb, Covers von Helmet und The Stooges, den lange verschollenen Track 'Delusional
Supremacy 2K' und eine rohe Keller-Live-Aufnahme von "Rejection Fetish".
Das Cover wurde von Chris Taylor von Pg. 99 gestaltet, der später auch für das kultige Terrifyer-Album der Band verantwortlich zeichnete, das in

On February 28th 2020 NEAERA released their 7th album – it was their self-titled comeback record after a 7-year-hiatus - which caught everyone by surprise. Despite having been very well perceived the pandemic impeded the band’s long awaited and already scheduled return to the live stages. On February 29th 2020, NEAERA played a successful and sold out release show in the band’s hometown, but it remained the only show for the record in years since Wacken, the Impericon festivals and other shows had to be postponed until further notice which was a huge setback for the ambitious quintet. Sebastian Heldt (drums), Tobias Buck (guitar) and Stefan Keller (guitar) used the unfortunate state of the pandemic and the impossibility to play live shows to create something new. Together with Marcus Bischoff of German metalcore institution Heaven Shall Burn and old friend Tristan Hachmeister they unearthed a black metal project by the name of OUR LOSS IS TOTAL and released the bleak full-length record “I” end of 2022 through the project’s own label. After that release, the NEAERA band members decided it was time write new material. The band wanted to go back to an old school approach, like in the old days, when they wrote the songs together in their little rehearsal room in their hometown of Münster, North Rhine Westphalia, Germany. The band started the writing process in September 2021, skipped the first material and then started with a new approach to a more free and less comfortable style, trying to leave old boundaries behind. By 2022, NEAERA played the postponed Wacken Open Air show – which was an overwhelming experience – and asked Janosch Rathmer (drummer of long-time friends and post rock institution Long Distance Calling) to record the band’s new album ALL IS DUST. The mixing and mastering was skilfully handled by Kristian Kohle at Kohlekeller Studios (Powerwolf, Aborted, Electric Callboy) who adorned the songs with the exact right powerful yet organic sound. In terms of lyrics, NEAERA shifted their approach a little bit and put the individual and its survival and well-being center stage – beside lyrics that deal with global or social clamour; a shift that can be called pandemic infused. 2024 marks the 20th band anniversary and is the perfect timing to release the eighth studio album, ALL IS DUST. Nothing can stop the band this year with two video clips at hand and prestigious summer festivals confirmed such as Summer Breeze, Reload and Vainstream Rockfest, the latter being the album release show in front of 20,000 people!

On the eve of Drop Nineteens' first live performances in 30 years, we are excited to announce the reissue of the band's 1992 shoegaze masterpiece, Delaware. "Reissue" is slightly misleading as Delaware has never actually been issued on vinyl in the United States. Delaware is the debut studio album by American band Drop Nineteens released on June 19, 1992. Despite the albums release over 30 years ago, and the band remaining inactive from 1993 onwards this album has remained a favorite of shoegaze fans for decades, and was listed as one of the 50 best shoegaze albums of all time by Pitchfork in 2016. This lasting love of the record has cemented the band as one of the most influential bands of the genre from their time. Over the last several years the album has found a new audience that has championed Delaware along side of the band's mostly UK 90's contemporaries. A new legion of Drop Nineteens fans have likely discovered their music through streaming services, rather than on 120 Minutes. Tracks like the towering "Kick The Tragedy" and pop songs "Winona" & "Delaware" sit next to more experimental moments like "Reberrymemberer." And while the album is certainly a wild ride, it all flows together as easily as singers' Greg Ackell and Paula Kelley's vocals. Now for the first time, this record will be available via a USA pressing on yellow colored vinyl. Remastered for vinyl by Carl Saff the album will be available on June 21st.

Between outside musical projects, pushing past 50 years old and becoming a father for the first time, San Francisco psych-pop legend Kelley Stoltz has spent the past two years steadily writing and recording his 18th album, “La Fleur”. The dazzling 12 song collection will be released in June by Agitated in Europe/UK and Dandy Boy Records in the USA. “La Fleur'' finds Stoltz once again playing nearly all of the instruments on the album- though a new friendship with pop guru Jason Falkner has led to Falkner appearing on two songs, “Hide In A Song” and “Make Believer” respectively. There’s the requisite 60’s meets 80’s pop rock confections that Stoltz favors with a new focus on out front vocals and perhaps a bit shinier production. Pandemic era blues, politics and fatherhood are lyrical touchstones throughout. The album’s first single “Reni’s Car” is the jangle rock lead single based on an actual event of Kelley riding around Manchester in the Stone Roses drummer's car. The accompanying music video was shot (partially) on location. “About Time” marries Twin Peaks synths to Fleetwood Mac and Avalon era Roxy Music in a cautionary tale to Stoltz's young daughter. “Human Events” puts revolutionary prose to a Moody Blues strum that floats off into Osees territory …and do I hear a nod to Gershwin in there? During the 2010’s Kelley played live as a sideman with Rodriguez and Echo & the Bunnymen, as the 2020’s dawned he was invited to support Pavement on their big reunion tour. He’s also been heard playing drums live with Robyn Hitchcock as well as adding sitar to Hitchcock's last two albums. In 2022, Stoltz was championed with a live appearance on Marc Riley’s BBC6 show. As producer, he has recorded the new album by Brigid Dawson formerly of the Ohsees. In my ears, Stoltz rarely does any wrong, and these comparisons are only just that little fruit to get you curious- he is still one of a kind. An under the radar hero to a few, and still after all these great songs, deserving of more. Climb on the bandwagon - as ever it’s quite pleasing here. - GEORGE CLOUD San Francisco, CA 2024

After “Matjesfilet” or „Verbrennungsmotor”, the single “Supermarkt” by Berlin producer ACUD, released in 2023, was also very successful. On the radio, on streaming platforms or on the festival stages: the song was present
everywhere! A remix EP was just a formality and is now celebrating its awakening, digitally and on vinyl! Included are the Norwegian disco masters PRINS THOMAS and OST&KJEX, as well as the Mexican MIJO, the
Argentinian ANA HELDER and from Berlin: AMOUNT. There is also a new acid variant from ACUD itself, as well as the original. Reason enough to fill existing gaps in the vinyl case.

Schließlich kamen sie aus ihren Kellern und begannen, gemeinsam im selben Raum an den Songs zu arbeiten, leise zu proben (für die Verhältnisse des normalerweise superlauten Buffalo Tom) und mit Akustikgitarre zu spielen. December 2012 I showed up totally exhausted in Vancouver BC after touring stupidly and relentlessly for however many straight months and got a job at a call centre raising money for the Red Cross. It was a scent free office but one time this woman cooked a piece of fish in the microwave for 10 minutes on low and hot boxed the whole office - we got sent home early no pay. There was the other woman I named the Call Centre Coltrane because her pitch and routine usually involved improvised flights of fancy that went off in both directions at once somehow landing back down with a credit card number and a donation. I used to sleep under the desk. I was there a few months and at the time I reconnected with John Brennan who I had played with briefly in Montreal at the Mutek Festival. In Montreal John was running an experimental music night at a burrito shop downtown called Garbage Night. While in Vancouver I began connecting with the music scene there and would go hang out with the Shearing Pinx lads who I think lived with Sydney the bass player at the time. I knew Nic and Jer from an AIDS Wolf Tour and was so stoked to get to know them both better. I really fell in love with that era of Vancouver's music scene.
Fast Forward to today. 2024
Actually it was the dying days of 2023 but you get it and John asks if I'll sit in with Earth Ball and I keep thinking about Earth Balance, the vegan butter everyone eats here. I brought my aching bones and my ipads on the beautiful ferry named the Queen of Oak Bay and out to Nanaimo BC, home of the nanaimo bar (a dessert treat - special to this region - that seems to be more popularly found under the weird glass sneeze guards in office building deli's out east in Ontario.... anyhoops ). No one in Nanaimo wants to talk to me about the famous treat. I asked a couple of people. Silence. Nanaimo is like London, Ontario but more fried and by the sea. The town is filled with blown out old sea dawgs with tin coffee pots and loose leaf tobacco, then there's the usual streetfolk you find in this part of the Canadian Pacific Northwest and a bunch of bohemians who I guess have left Vancouver behind - that fine city having become uninhabitable for those not making over 100k a year. And then up the way are all the retirees.
Yup Nanaimo is a strange one. They mined the shit out of this region and Nanaimo is surely haunted by those buried in mining shafts or maimed by the heavy machinery or blown up by accident in the explosives store house. And when Earth Ball fire up the amps in Izzy and Jer's basement you can hear the voices of the ghosts hum through electrical lines and out the speakers, Kellen's hued feedback, Izy's sturdy basslines, Jer's paperbag guitar tone and rumble pack zaps, Liam's (aka the Kid) sheets of sound and Brennen's multidirectional drums.
You wouldn't guess Earth Ball was auto-composing and from what my rat brain can tell - the lyrics are improvised too...Improvising lyrics and singing them is the hardest thing to do in all of music.. Izzy and Jer are pros. And their attitudes are pro too.
The live show is scorched and without naming names they've been known to make headliners nervous. Lucky ones will get to see them live as they tour this beast of a record entitled ‘It’s Yours’ (out May 17th on Upset The Rhythm) and I hope I'm one of them.
But now you, fan of fun but totally fucked up music, have the opportunity to Ball with them thanks to Upset The Rhythm. Enjoy

Marc Richter records as Black To Comm for Thrill Jockey and under the Mouchoir Ètanche and Jemh Circs monikers (and solo) for his own Cellule 75 imprint. He collaborated with visual artists such as Ho Tzu Nyen, Jan van Hasselt and Mike Kelley. He also produces soundtracks and acousmatic multichannel installations for institutions such as INA GRM Paris, ZKM Karlsruhe and Kunstverein Hamburg.

Gwendoline werden nicht gern in Schubladen gesteckt. Wir tun es dennoch: Nu Wave with wit, Synthwave with edge, Postpunk with Pop. Als wenn Benjamin Biolay Molchat Doma vorstehen würde, ,I'm Not In Love" (Chrystal Castles) auf ,Anyway" (OTO) trifft, Ladytron mit DAF in den Urlaub fahren würden. Seit 2017 verfolgt das social medial scheue Duo Micka (a.k.a. Mikoune) und Pierre (a.k.a. Daniel) im eher verborgenen ihre Cold Wave-Vision. Das Debut wurde in reinster DIY-Manier zu Hause im Keller aufgenommen und ohne Umschweife in kurzer Zeit produziert. Lange Zeit gab es kaum was zu Gwendoline zu googlen, aber an den Kennnern ist es natürlich nicht vorbeigegangen. Das spanische Label Dead Wax Records fand das so super, veröffentlichte digital und sehr limitiert auf Vinyl, ein Reissue gab's auf bandeigenem Label 2022. Nun sind sie bei Born Bad gelandet und dabei in bester Gesellschaft mit Vox Low, Frustration und Bracco. Was macht Gwendoline einzigartig? Sicherlich ihre Wut und gleichzeitige Zurückhaltung, die sie mit Selbstkritik, Ironie und Humor vermischen, was sich in den Texten wie auch im Sound wiederspiegelt. Zur Feier des 20-jährigen Jubiläums von „Ether Song“ dem zweiten Album von Turin Brakes, wird es als limitierte blaue Doppel-Vinyl neuaufgelegt! Lange Zeit vergriffen, ist es seit dem Release in 2003 das erste Mal, dass das Album neu gepresst wurde!

Die neue VERVE BY REQUEST-LP-Serie präsentiert rare Kultalben, die von den Fans immer wieder gefordert wurden, gepresst in audiophilem 180-Gramm-Vinyl bei Third Man Pressing/Detroit. „Ptah The El Daoud“, Alice Coltranes viertes Album, wurde 1970 im Kellerstudio des Hauses der ColtraneFamilie in Dix Hills aufgenommen und ist ein transzendentes Meisterwerk des spirituellen Jazz. Der Titeltrack ist eine Ode an den ägyptischen Gott Ptah (El Daoud bedeutet „der Geliebte“). Gatefold-Hülle, gepolsterte Innenhülle. „Beat“ wurde für Berry Gordys kurzlebiges Workshop-Jazz-Label im Hitsville-USA-Studio aufgenommen. Schlagzeuger Roy Brooks, zusammen mit seinen Detroit-Landsleuten George Bohanon und Hugh Lawson, sowie seinen Bandkollegen Blue Mitchell, Junior Cook und Eugene Taylor vom Horace Silver Quintet, mischt eine ordentliche Dosis Souljazz in die Hard-Bop-Wurzeln dieses mitreißenden Albums von 1964. Gemastert von den analogen Originalbändern, gepolsterte Innenhülle.

'November Medicine' ist die Platte, die Nealo aus dem Keller holt. Sein zweites Album, hart erkämpft, in einer schwierigen Zeit seines Lebens aus ihm herausgezerrt, eine Lehrstunde, wie man sich selbst liebt und feiert. Mit einer Stimme, die eine Million Zigaretten geraucht und durch 100 Hardcore-Shows geschrien hat, spricht der Dubliner Rapper über sich selbst, das Ende seiner zehnjährigen Beziehung, seine Depression und seinen Willen zur Heilung. Seine Ehrlichkeit ist heftig, sein Ton ist warm. Zusammenarbeit (mit Morgana, Jehnova, Rebel Phoenix) steht im Mittelpunkt und scheint eine Leitphilosophie für das Nealo-Projekt zu sein. The 8-part series Marie-Antoinette: First Steps at Court is created by Deborah Davis and stars Emilia Schüle, Louis Cunningham, Jack Archer, Jasmine Blackborow, James Purefoy, Gaia Weiss, Marthe Keller and Crystal Shepherd.

The series begins with the departure of Maria Theresa of Austria's daughter for France, where she is to marry the future Louis XVI. It's 1770, she's only 14 and still menstruating, but she already has to 'give' an heir to her husband, who is a year older than she is.

Marie-Antoinette's first steps at Versailles are painful, and at the start of the series almost resemble a psychological horror film that captures all the cruelty and misogyny of the court at the time.... ( - Canal+ - )

A defining album of the 90s, Last Splash by The Breeders turns 30 this year. To celebrate, the band have returned to the original tapes to give it its first-ever remaster, and by doing so have also unearthed two lost tracks that will delight fans. Recorded by the "classic" Breeders line-up of Kim Deal, Kelley Deal, Josephine Wiggs and Jim Macpherson and featuring singles "Cannonball" and "Divine Hammer", Last Splash was "an alt-rock classic" (Pitchfork"s Top 100 Records of 1990s) on release; a fast seller too, quickly attaining Platinum status in the US. Despite having had the boxset treatment on its 20th birthday, the album was still left to be remastered so 10 years on, the original y" tapes were taken out of the archives and have been lovingly worked on by Kim Deal, Benjamin Mumphrey and Miles Showell (Abbey Road). Never sounding so good, the album for its 30th anniversary, it"s getting the ultimate vinyl pressing. Entitled Last Splash (the 30th Anniversary Original Analog Edition), this new version has been cut at half speed at Abbey Road by Miles Showell, now spanning two LPs and running at 45rpm. A Japanese cd edition will also be available. This edition contains an exclusive, one-sided etched 12" which features two previously unreleased tracks - "Go Man Go" and "Divine Mascis" ("Go Man Go" is a track that Kim co-wrote with Black Francis while "Divine Mascis" is a different version of "Divine Hammer" with Dinosaur Jr."s J Mascis on lead vocals). Both tracks originate from the original sessions and were left forgotten until the sessions were exhumed to create this new master. The attention to detail continues to the album"s art, which equally celebrates Vaughan Oliver"s iconic sleeve. With Vaughan sadly no longer with us, his long-time design partner Chris Bigg has gloriously reimagined the album"s sleeve for this new version.

Following the release of the shoegaze masterpiece Delaware in 1992, and the intricate experimentations on National Coma in 1993, Drop Nineteens disbanded. They had a great run. Shared stages with Radiohead, Hole, Blur, PJ Harvey. Went from being teenaged kids in Boston to mid twenty somethings with an MTV video under their belt. So when Drop Nineteens ceased to be, Greg Ackell felt content, music was a closed chapter. That was until 2021. For the first time in nearly 30 years, Ackell felt compelled to pick up a guitar. He immediately called up Steve Zimmeran, the band's bassist and fellow guitarist, and the two got writing. It felt effortless for Ackell, like he never stopped writing music. "We were off to the races," he says. "But also the question came up: what does a Drop Nineteens song sound like today? Enter Hard Light, the band's stunning third record. It's the band's proverbial follow up to Delaware, a modern Drop Nineteens record that is completely singular in its sound and vision. The first task making Hard Light, was of course, getting the rest of the band back together. Drop Nineteens is an inherently collaborative project. Ackell's primarily the lyrics writer, and he collaborates with Zimmerman, Paula Kelley, Motohiro Yasue, and Peter Koeplin to create the sonic world. The record came together over the course of a year, recording at a patchwork of studios all around the country. Making music together felt natural, fluid, exciting. The guitar reverb is expansive as ever. Ackell and Kelley's vocals are crystalline. "Scapa Flow," is triumphant. An excellent example of what a modern day Drop Nineteens song sounds like. The guitars glide like clouds on a blue sky day, drums shuffle in the background, searching. Ackell and Kelley's vocals are cool toned and dreamy, bound up in a haze of reverb. It's unquestionably lovely. You could say the same for the whole of the record. Hard Light is so lovely. A portrait of a band 30 years later, as talented and as dedicated to their craft as ever.

Transparent rotes Vinyl. Weihnachtslieder gibt es viele. Die meisten sind weichgespült und kitschig und verfolgen die geplagten Eltern häufig noch als unangenehmer Ohrwurm, wenn Lametta und Kugel längst wieder im Keller verstaut sind. Und wer sagt eigentlich, dass Kinder auf seichtes Gedudel stehen? Niemand! Und genau deshalb ist es gut, dass es die Band "Randale" gibt. Die vier Musiker Jochen Vahle, Christian Keller, Garrelt Riepelmeier und Marc Jürgen machen Rockmusik für Kinder. Manchmal laut und krachig, manchmal nachdenklich und leise, aber mit einem Augenzwinkern und viel Witz. Jetzt legen die Bielefelder mit ihrer wiederveröffentlichten CD ein ganz spezielles Weihnachts- Album vor: 10 Songs, die in bewährter Randale-Manier auf die besondere Zeit einstimmen. Und das heißt: Als Country-, Reggae-, Rock- oder Punkversion. 6 Titel stammen von der original CD von 2006. "Harald und Peter feiern Weihnachten" sowie "Jeder kann helfen" sind brandneu. "Der Kuckuck und der Esel" streiten nicht über die schönste Stimme, sondern über den schönsten Baum. Und die "Affendisco" verwandelt sich in die "Weihnachtsdisco". Die Fangruppe wächst und wächst. Fazit: Dieses Album gehört nicht unter den Baum. Es sollte spätestens zu Nikolaus in der Tüte beziehungsweise im Strumpf stecken! Und was wünscht sich die Band? "Dass die CD zusammen mit dem Christbaumschmuck sicher verstaut wird und damit auch in den nächsten Jahren zum festen Bestandteil des Festes wird!"

Die einzigartigen Aufnahmen von Charles Mingus' Konzertreihe im weltberühmten Birdland, von 1961 bis 1962 - zum ersten Mal veröffentlicht!

Die originalen Tonbänder, die zur Aufnahme der Radiosendungen verwendet wurden, wurden speziell für diese Veröffentlichung aufgespürt, gereinigt und neu gemastert. Die beiliegenden Aufnahmen, die bisher nur in Form von Bootlegs veröffentlicht wurden, zeigen Mingus inmitten einer höchst kreativen Phase. Abwechselnd am Bass und am Klavier spielt er mit einer wechselnden Band, darunter Yusef Lateef, Roland Kirk, Jaki Byard, Booker Ervin, Pepper Adams sowie die Mingus Charles McPherson, Dannie Richmond und andere.
Diese unglaublich seltenen Aufnahmen, die in einem Keller in der Bronx untergebracht sind, bekommen ihre beste klangliche Aufbereitung seit 1962. Das Herzstück dieses Paketes ist ein 44-seitiges Buch mit einem Vorwort von Christian McBride, einem höchst informativen 15.000 Wörter umfassenden Essay von Brian Priestley und einem neuen Interview mit Charles McPherson, das Kontext und Insider-Informationen zu den Daten und der Zeit liefert. All dies ist Design und mit seltenen Fotos und Ephemera illustriert durchgehend illustriert.
