Die französische Post-Punk- und Industrial-Metal-Band KILL THE THRILL macht bereits seit 1989 Musik. Im Laufe der Jahre gab es einige Besetzungswechsel, doch die Mitglieder Marylin Tognolli und Nicolas Dick haben seit der Gründung der Band immer wieder atmosphärische und düstere Klanglandschaften mit ergreifender Lyrik geschaffen.

Mit "Autophagie" tauchen KILL THE THRILL den Hörer einmal mehr in ein Reich der rauen, hypnotischen Kunst ein. Eine Kakophonie turbulenter, lärmiger Klanglandschaften schlängelt sich durch das Album, während Nicolas' hypnotische Gesangslinien eindringlich und in rasantem Tempo vorgetragen werden. Diese turbulente Reise wird von subtilen, aber entschlossenen rhythmischen Perkussionen getragen, die dem Hörer die Möglichkeit geben, diese turbulente Klanglandschaft mit einem Gefühl der Zielstrebigkeit zu durchqueren, selbst wenn die umgebenden Elemente die Sinne überschwemmen. via Napalm Records erscheint. Der 2023 erschienene Vorgänger Himmelfahrt sollte, so hatte die Band es im Geheimen geplant, die letzte
Albumveröffentlichung ihrer über 30-jährigen Karriere sein. Im Nachhinein erklärt dies auch den symbolträchtigen Titel. Doch es kam anders. Das
Albumrelease entfesselte eine unzähmbare Leichtigkeit, Energie und eine mitreißende Begeisterung, die für alle Beteiligten spürbar waren. SUBWAY
TO SALLY hatten mit ihrer Musik fraglos den Nerv der Zeit getroffen, denn auch die Reaktionen auf Himmelfahrt waren seitens der Fans wie Kritiker
überwältigend positiv und nach einer vielerorts ausverkauften Tour war klar, dass das 14. Album noch nicht das letzte Kapitel gewesen war. Aber wie

Skeletal Family are: Anneka Latta - Vocals, Stan Greenwood - Guitars, Roger "Trotwood" Nowell - Bass, Ian "Karl Heinz" Taylor - Keyboards / Saxophone, Adrian "Ozzy" Osadzenko - Drums and Percussion. Formed in 1982 with vocalist Anne Marie Hurst, their debut album 'Burning Oil' topped the National UK Indie Charts for three weeks in Autumn 1984 above other contemporary northern bands The Smiths and New Order. The band subsequently recorded seven BBC Radio One sessions for John Peel, Janice Long & Kid Jensen. They Signed to Chrysalis Records in 1986. Their discography includes the studio albums: 'Futile Combat', 'Sakura', 'Songs of Love Hope and Despair', 'Day of All Days'. The current line up came together in 2021, with the introduction of vocalist Anneka Latta with the band performing live at 'Wave Gotik Treffen' in Leipzig and 'Darker Waves Festival' in Huntington Beach, California as well as various dates in the UK and USA. Their latest album 'Light From The Dark' was recorded at Paul Weller's 'Black Barn' Studio and received critical acclaim already earlier this year.

Writing music, for singer-songwriter and producer Fine, “feels like being entrusted with a secret.” On Rocky Top Ballads, the Copenhagen-based musician’s debut album, these secrets take the form of minimalist compositions that search for glimpses of beauty in the everyday. Recorded, produced, and mixed by Fine, the album is a mystical soundtrack to a captivating songwriter’s explorations of process and intuition.

“The whole album is about the moments when you see a crack in something,” Fine explains, “where you briefly see another side of yourself or of someone you've known forever.”

Fine grew up in Denmark’s rural Northern Jutland; there, her father’s guitar and banjo playing formed the sonic backdrop of her childhood. In the years since, her musical curiosity has led her to work across a range of styles and sounds. In her early twenties, she became part of Danish electronic trio Chinah, which released three albums. You might also have caught her sampled vocals on the joyfully rollicking Two Shell song “Home,” from 2021. Then, last year, she — along with Erika de Casier and Smerz — co-wrote three songs for the massive, critically lauded K-pop group New Jeans. Fine is also a part of Clarissa Connelly Canons group back home in Denmark, and writes music under the moniker Coined with composer and songwriter Astrid Sonne.

But Rocky Top Ballads is a turn back towards a more personal, stream-of-consciousness songwriting style. Fine wrote and recorded these songs sporadically over the course of the last few years. In light of Chinah’s collaborative, piecemeal production style, Fine craved a more organic, intuitive process for these songs. Her work on the record combines sample-based production with the sounds of instruments she and her collaborators could hold in their hands, ones that inspired free-flowing improvisation: electric and acoustic guitar, even the Ensoniq keyboard that was in her childhood home. The resulting songs are equally inspired by the country and folk of her childhood, the hazy beauty of Mazzy Star, the avant-garde pop of Dean Blunt, and the songwriting of ’90s singer-songwriters like Suzanne Vega.

Fine describes her songwriting process as a “magical thinking method”: being in contact with the present moment and pretending as if she already knows the song she’s about to write. Many of the songs on Rocky Top Ballads use the original takes of Fine’s vocals, an attempt to capture a song’s initial essence and avoid disturbing the song’s generative idea as much as possible. You can hear that well-preserved spark on songs like “Losing Tennessee,” a minimalist and wistful reflection on the inherent loss and change of growing older. She wrote other tracks, like the piano-led “Whys” and the woozy “Coasting,” through a process of cutting and layering her improvisations, carefully merging multiple musical snippets into newly seamless compositions. And the stunning closing track “A Star” is the product of a slow process of evolution: beginning as an understated expression of sincerity before dissolving into a rich, distorted guitar-driven exploration.

As a songwriter and producer, Fine’s work often peers into the universes of experience that can be hidden inside a fragmentary moment. Sometimes she explores this literally — as in “Days Incomplete,” which she built off a short sample from “A Star.” This impulse — to zoom in, to recontextualize, to excavate — threads throughout her lyrics, too. What happens, her songs ask, when we pay close attention to those everyday images and physical realities we might otherwise ignore: the sky, the rain, the sun, the sea? On the spacious and swoony “Big Muzzy,” with its gentle sway and Cocteau Twins-inflected vocals, Fine sings about watching the “summer turn blue”; the grooving, propulsive “Remember The Heart” is a love letter to the sea where she grew up. In her airy voice, Fine traces meandering melodies that continually unspool with fresh insights.

A particular mantra guided Fine’s songwriting throughout the creation of Rocky Top Ballads: “Everything has potential.” In these songs, small moments are worthy of deep contemplation, and gentleness can evoke worlds of emotion. The resulting songs offer a gift of momentary pleasure, flowing and unhurried as a gentle breeze.

SML is bassist Anna Butterss (Jeff Parker, Daniel Villarreal, Makaya McCraven), synthesist Jeremiah Chiu (Ariel Kalma, Marta Sofia-Honer), saxophonist Josh Johnson (Jeff Parker, Makaya McCraven, Nate Mercereau, Marquis Hill), percussionist Booker Stardrum (Amirtha Kidambi, Carl Stone, Lee Ranaldo, Patrick Shiroishi), and guitarist Gregory Uhlmann (Sam Wilkes, Meg Duffy, Perfume Genius). Their debut album Small Medium Large began as a collection of long-form improvisations recorded during two

separate two-night stands at beloved Highland Park venue ETA, a major development site for the burgeoning new LA jazz & improvised music sound, which unfortunately closed its doors permanently at the end of 2023.

The venue, perhaps best known outside of LA for Jeff Parker’s 2022 album Mondays at the Enfield Tennis Academy, was the perfect location for the start of SML, especially given that both bassist Anna Buterss and saxophonist Josh Johnson are in the quartet featured on that record. Small Medium Large was engineered and recorded in stereo direct to Nagra by Bryce Gonzales and compiled, arranged, and edited with additional production, recording, and
studio composition by SML.

While editing, chopping, and rearranging stereo mixed improvisations is hardly a new concept (for a modern and relevant example we can look to Makaya McCraven’s output on IARC) these results are a stunning expansion of the Teo Macero / Miles Davis editing concept explored on classics like Bitches Brew, On The Corner, and Get Up With It. Stylistically though, these recordings have more in common with the proto trance repetitions of Harmonia, and with Holgar Czukay’s re-assemblage technique used in his work with Can. Throw in a supremely intuitive utilization of Susumu Yokota’s floating patterns polyrhythm concept and we have a truly entrancing take on time-clocked electronic rhythms augmenting with live percussion, yet maintaining that elusive human sway.

Vladimir Cosma wurde in eine Musikerfamilie geboren, sein Vater ist der Dirigent Teodor Cosma. Nachdem Vladimir Cosma am Bukarester Conservatorium den ersten Preis in den Fächern Violine und Komposition gewonnen hatte, setzte er sein Studium ab 1963 am Conservatoire national supérieur de musique in Paris fort, wo er mit Nadia Boulanger zusammenarbeitete. 1966 lernte er den Filmkomponisten Michel Legrand kennen, der sein Interesse für die Filmmusik weckte und für den er zunächst als Arrangeur arbeitete. 1967 begann seine langjährige Zusammenarbeit mit dem Regisseur Yves Robert, die bis zu dessen Tod im Jahr 2002 andauerte. Das Synthie-Intro von "Pinky Ring" bereitet den Stimmungswechsel vor, wenn der Track losgeht. Tiefe Basstöne unterstreichen das tadellose Schlagzeugspiel und Dave vergeudet mühelos keine Noten, wenn sich die Strophen und Refrains abwechseln. Die Platte lehnt sich an spirituelle Jazz-Vibes auf "Diamond Encore" an, mit einem dunklen und tiefen, fast "Axelrod-artigen" Rhythmus-Track, um dann mit dem Stomper "Still Standing" die Energie wieder aufzunehmen. "Dave Wants You" hat einen ganz eigenen Bop mit einem unorthodoxen Schlagzeugmuster, das Dave mit seinen Trompetenschlägen verankert. Das jenseitige Arrangement von "Drony Boy" stellt die Produktion auf ein Podest. Das erste Intro wirkt fast wie eine Pause auf dem Album, während das zweite Intro den halsbrecherischen Track einleitet, der gleich folgen wird. Eine bedrohliche Gitarre signalisiert den Aufbau und das Ganze wird durch Daves wunderschöne Trompetenriffs untermalt. "Quesodillas" und "Green Door" leiten den Herbst des Albums mit ihrer sanften und intimen Energie ein und "Ruby's Rubies" ist der perfekte Abschluss der Reise.

“Get Me In the Zone EP” is Waajeed’s final release on his Detroit-based label DIRT TECH RECK for 2024. He shared some of his inspiration for this dynamic four-track offering.

A few years ago, Angel Olsen quietly formed somethingscosmic, a new imprint and a home for Olsen to have “the flexibility to release when and how I want to with the help from my longtime partners at Jagjaguwar.” Somethingscosmic’s second release, ‘Cosmic Waves Volume 1’ is a compilation reimagined as a dialogue; side A features artists chosen by Olsen, with each artist choosing their own song for the collection. Side B is a collection of songs from the same artists, but chosen by Olsen and recorded by her. Each song, unsurprisingly, illuminates a new artist Olsen finds spectacular. Hearing Olsen refract the artists’ songs back to them reveals the depth of Olsen’s imagination, while spotlighting multiple exciting artists at work.

“As someone that emerged into the music scene through a small tape label,” says Olsen, “I’ve wanted to continue the spirit of discovery and of my debut release, ‘Strange Cacti’, while supporting and collaborating with artists and friends whose music I have been moved by. I feel there is something unique and special about covering another artist's song,” she continues. “We all make it our own, or we try to, but I personally always learn something new about the process when I’m engaging someone else’s words and melodies in such a close way. Time and again I find that putting myself into various different styles of songs can lead to new ways of thinking and creating.”

This 7th edition of the "best of" 1990s vinyl edition "Earquake 1991-1999" once again documents Wolfgang Voigt's extremely complex musical work of those years. The subjective compilation, at the first impression only held together by the straight bass drum, results in a strange whole after 25 years.

On “Earquake 1997”, in addition to snotty Mike Ink saw techno, there are also some pieces from the experimental concept album “Massstab 1:5” as well as three versions of the hippie-esque sing-along techno hit “Wassermann – Fackeln Im Sturm” that have never been released on vinyl so far...

About 30 years ago Ronald and his buddy Jens Kuhn aka Lowtec teamed up for music production on their own terms in the vibrant House, Techno scene of East Germany. This scene was pure DIY: Parties somewhere out in the country, heartfelt, down-to-earth people and raw underground tunes from analogue machines. Their productions were way ahead of their times, but found a cult following by and by...

On initial release, this EP was overshadowed by the two released on either side of it – how could it not be? Both The Journey and Gotta Believe were huge anthems all over the rave scene. Of the three 'incarnations' by the spiritually inspired Mahavishnu Orchestra, the first is the most full-bodied. The enlightened John McLaughlin and his musicians were immortalized through their début album "The Inner Mounting Flame", which was included in the list of the 100 Best Jazz Albums; a short time later they recorded their highly concentrated studio compilation "Birds Of Fire". Long before today's saleably labelled World Music, the quintet set the standards for a meaningful amalgamation of dynamic rock with complex Indian rhythms and occidental conventions. Already in the title piece, the musicians combine a sharpened Hendrix style with expansive melodies, and with smacking grooves and fine riffs draw all that is grand in jazz ("Miles Beyond") into the musical centre. With almost chamber-music-like density, "Thousand Island Park" blossoms out in soft colours, whilst as a contrast unremittingly flowing cascades in "Hope" search desperately for their destination.

It is thrilling how finely weighed patterns ("One Word") escalate to techno-like violin playing and how the listener is invited to take part in an inner procession in the following "Sanctuary". After such soaring heights, we are brought back to earth with a familiar funky sound in a popular, pastoral vein ("Open Country Joy") before taking off abruptly once again: in the final piece, "Resolution" with its slowly rising carpets of sound, all that is sublime in New Music conquers over world cultures.

Die geben eine erste Ahnung wo's lang geht, hinken dann aber doch, ob der ganz eigenen Chemie und Qualität dieses Duos. Schönheit durch Reduktion, Direktheit, Leidenschaft, Intimität In diesem Sinne ist den beiden nun ein besonders eindringliches Album gelungen. Eight Houses schwelgt in der rohen Kraft des Subtilen. Ruhe und Raum finden sich hier auch im kontrollierten Chaos, wenn Larrabee's Gitarrenriffs krachen und über LaPlant's stoische Beats schwappen. Dann wieder sind Ihre Kompositionen knapp koloriert, mal mit hageren Piano Linien, mal mit ein paar Bläsern, die sich kurz aus dunstigen Ecken erheben, eine warm rollende Orgel wischt durchs Bild, ein Synthezier zirpt fern. Das Album lebt von Understatement und Spannung, dunkel, bewegend, kraftvoll, erlösend. Ganz im Mittelpunkt steht Jessica Larrabee's Stimme - lakonisch, von besonderem Ausdruck.
