Fiddlehead läuten mit ,Baby I'll Change", einer EP mit drei Songs, die diesen Sommer bei Run For Cover Records erscheinen soll, eine neue Ära ein. Nachdem eine Reihe von genreprägenden und emotional aufgeladenen Alben, die von den Fans verehrt wurden, mit dem 2023 erschienenen Meisterwerk ,Death is Nothing to Us" ihren Abschluss fanden, fragten sich viele, wie es für die Bostoner Band weitergehen würde - darunter auch Fiddlehead selbst. Sie machten sich auf den Weg nach North Carolina, um dort mit dem Produzenten Alex Farrar (MJ Lenderman, Snail Mail, Hotline TNT) aufzunehmen - mit einigen Ideen, aus denen schließlich ihre neueste Veröffentlichung entstand: eine ausgereifte und fesselnde Sammlung von Songs, die zu den bisher besten von Fiddlehead gehören.

Auf ,Revelations of Divine Love", Jason Calhouns fünfter Veröffentlichung bei Dear Life Records, hat Calhoun ein besonders kraftvolles Album zusammengestellt, das surrt, summt und leuchtet. Im Gegensatz zu seinen jüngsten Werken, die sich um ausgedehnte, hypnotische Kompositionen drehen, wecken die vierzehn Tracks hier sofort deine Aufmerksamkeit und Neugier. Ihre Prägnanz unterstreicht nur eine seiner größten Stärken: die Fähigkeit, einen verfliegenden, flüchtigen Moment einzufangen und festzuhalten. Der Titel ist eine Anspielung auf die britische Anachoreta Julian von Norwich, deren gesammelte Schriften mit demselben Titel die frühesten sind, die jemals von einer Frau in englischer Sprache verfasst wurden. Hier dient er als verbindendes Thema für Calhouns ganz eigene Palette aus unruhigen Texturen und zaghaften Melodien. Das ist zweifellos persönliche Musik, aber sie fühlt sich auch greifbar an, fast wie Toffee in ihrer Präsentation - und bei einer so kraftvollen Kombination fällt es schwer, beim Hören ein Lächeln zu unterdrücken. Zum Beispiel, wenn der eindringliche Puls, der ,last one" trägt, plötzlich seine Farbe wechselt, während sich gähnende Töne offenbaren, oder wie ,eye dilation" auf Zehenspitzen in den Raum schleicht, wobei jede Note wie ein sorgfältig gewählter Schritt klingt. Obwohl das Album niemals gekünstelt oder überladen wirkt, bleibt es entschlossen intim.

Kaash Paige’s 2 LATE TO BE TOXIC is a R&B heartbreak story told in real-time. The focus track, “What Happened 2 Us,” is a raw and hazy reflection on broken love, written from the wreckage of what once was. With her signature slow-burn cadence and a voice full of ache, Kaash peels back the ego and lets the pain speak. This track marks a shift into deeper, darker R&B while fans flock to her digital diaries and hotline for catharsis. The album closes the chapter that KAASHMYCHECKS cracked open.

Das brandneue Wiener Musikprojekt "ALLES EXHAUSTED" präsentiert zeitgemäßen Shoegaze-Sound mit deutschen Texten. Entstanden als loses Netzwerk aus Musiker*innen der Gruppen Culk, Jansky, Pauls Jets und Fuzzybrains präsentieren sie mit der Single "Alles so verbraucht" auf Siluh Records das allererste Lebenszeichen. Am 5.9.2025 erscheint ihr selbstbetiteltes Mini-Album "ALLES EXHAUSTED" als auf 50 Stk. limitiertes Tape. Unter dem Namen "ALLES EXHAUSTED" formiert sich ein Netzwerk von Wiener Musiker*innen. Es ist keine Band im engeren Sinn, sondern funktioniert eher wie eine lose Bande, die sich 2025 irgendwo zwischen Müdigkeit und Experimentierfreude gebildet hat. Evolving from my earlier sample-based works, the Nothingburger EP is a pair of emotionally and
sonically dense songs, where layer upon layer of live instrumentation build a heartsick wall of
sound. Called in friends from NYC to reinterpret the tracks, ambient dub group Purelink and
shoegaze kings Hotline TNT.

Monzanto Sound are a rising South East London-based music collective fusing together different styles from the African Diaspora with a hypnotic, psychedelic edge and a passion for the alchemical practice of sonic storytelling. Traversing through jazz-inflected funk, psychedelic trip-hop and cosmic neo-soul; they connect the dots using pulsating grooves, hypnotic polyrhythms and soaring vocals. The band consists of Mimi Koku on vocals, Mali Baden-Powell on keys, Wazoo Baden Powell on drums, Anthony Boatright on bass and Rachel Asafo-Agyei on guitar and supporting vocals.

Set for release in August, debut album 'The Channel' explores themes of love and conflict, justice and injustice, fantasy and mythology. Its title is a reference to many things: a journey, a portal or window to another place, a connection, a transformation. It also makes links, conceptually and sonically, between the organic and the technological, the material and immaterial.

“I am OBSESSED with the 80s. I love the loud neon colours and fashion and the kinetic energy of the music. It’s uplifting and bittersweet with a ton of keyboards, what’s not to like?” reasons Morgane when asked what it is she likes about the decade. This exuberance is brightly reflected in the mirror ball synthpop of her third album released at the end of September. It is her second long player to appear on vinyl after the release of Between The Funk And The Fear debut on the Polytechnic Youth label.

Morgane was the keyboard player in Stereolab between 1995 and 2001 during which time they released Emperor Tomato Ketchup (her favourite) and Dots And Loops. As a teenager though she first played the drums, then guitar and bass. She only learnt the keyboards one month before joining the group. “They gave me 40 songs to learn, it was a baptism of fire”.

After leaving Stereolab, Morgane first moved to New York for nine years; she’d always planned to move to America having spent a lot of time there with her parents and of course those space-pop pioneers. The warmer weather of LA enticed her though and you can hear its pulse in Day-Glo Chaos. The album’s thumping heart is pumped by the city’s night sky and when asked she cites three particular albums as her favourites: the oddball analogue electro of Jacno’s 1979 debut; John Carpenter’s ‘Escape From New York’ and The B-52’s ‘Cosmic Thing’. There’s also a strong nod to the playful computerised harmonies of Yellow Magic Orchestra whilst she’s somewhat partial to the synth prog of Yes and Soft Machine. “I actually created a synth on Ableton Live named after Rick Wakeman’. I should create one after Mike Ratledge next!”

Throughout her work (but especially on this record) you can hear the influence of computer games. “I’m an avid gamer and have been one since I was a teenager and fell in love with my Commodore 64”. Though not a fan of Hotline Miami or the GTA series (“too violent”) she liked Hang On and loved Outrun which she used to play a lot on her Sega Master System. “I just got the soundtrack reissue from Data Disc and it is beautiful” she enthuses.

You’ll see and hear such influences on the lead single from the album ‘Midnite Rogue’ the video to which pays (im)perfect juddering homage to such arcade culture. Car tyres glued to sticky tarmac, French pop music lost in the air. The title was inspired by a Fighting Fantasy book which she adored as a kid. “I love the idea of this entity causing mischief during night time”, she beams. It’s not hard to see why.

Bacao Rhythm & Steel Band, die mysteriöse Steel Pan Band aus Hamburg, hat sich weltweit einen Kultstatus erspielt. Mit einer Reihe von klassischen 7" Singles und drei hochgelobten Alben haben sie die Messlatte für sich selbst hoch gelegt, die sie mit diesem neuen Werk noch weiter nach oben schieben wollen. Auf ihrem vierten Album BRSB sind Bacao zurück mit mehr vom Gleichen, aber mehr vom Gleichen ist bei ihnen von Natur aus anders. Sie covern Songs aus verschiedenen Genres, von Megahits bis hin zu Underground-Songs, und machen sie sich mit ihrer einzigartigen Herangehensweise an die traditionellen Steel Pans aus Trinidad und Tobago zu eigen. Während ein Teil des Reizes eines neuen Bacao Rhythm & Steel Band-Albums darin besteht, herauszufinden, welche Songs sie covern, ist es ebenso faszinierend zu sehen, welche originellen Melodien sie ausgeheckt haben – denn dieses Album ist ebenso voller herausragender Originale. Mit ihrem Covern von Claudja Barrys Disco-Klassiker "Love For The Sake Of Love", die sie in eine synchronisierte Version umwandeln und sogar den Titel in "Love For The Sake Of Dub" ändern, fügen Bacao ihrem Lebenslauf einen weiteren zertifizierten Dance-Floor-Filler hinzu. Aus dem Bereich der zeitgenössischen Smash-Hits covern sie Drakes "Hotline Bling" und "Love$ick" von Mura Masa & A$AP Rocky. Dann gehen sie mit dem "Stranger Things Theme" einen sehr unerwarteten Weg, indem sie den Synthie-lastigen Titelsong der Hit-Show nehmen und ihm einen hypnotischeren Ton geben als dem Original. Thee Marloes give us with another killer of a two-sider while they finish recording their debut album. The A side "Logika" is a laid back tune about where the head and the heart meet and how they often don't see things the same way. Natassya Sianturi's honeyed vocals float over a beautifully arranged track driven by guitar riffs, organ, and reverb drenched stick hits. They manage to put the perfect amount of paint on the canvas with the band sounding tight as ever hitting all the changes that bring in the earworm chorus that stays in your head even if you don't speak Indonesian. Sim's latest album, Equator Hotline, features exotica-fueled beatscapes and transportive vibes. The equator itself is breached on "Deep in the Rainforest" as busy percussion playfully accompanies the downtempo drum beat. Goodge's jazz-funk dreamscape is sonically interpreted through the grooves in tracks like "Heart of the City" from the forthcoming album Echoes of Yesteryear. Here, cool electric piano keys, a snazzy saxophone, and scratchy guitar are buoyed by an uptempo drum track that transmits a cool inner city feel. MichRyc's friend Emapea helps out with "Monkeys in the Jungle," from Under the Surface, a deep instrumental hip hop cut that almost sounds influenced by Saharan guitar bands like Mdou Moctar. Mister T. returns to Cold Busted with Synchronized Roots, another fantastic album encompassing the many styles of the prolific producer. Calypso Drip FM is a journey of styles & influences that formed the varied musical landscape of its creator. Only known by the moniker of Gryff, the author wanted a project that reminded listeners of radio stations of decades past. Particularly the type you would have on GTA: Vice City.

Gryff is a 90s kid, but the track list of his debut album plays like a greatest hits of a much mature songwriter and producer.
Almost exclusively written by himself, requesting the help from Andrew Threlfo in production for 'Do You Feel Like This?', and with NY songstress Primo The Alien as guest and co-writer for Reverse, his undeniable talent is showing in spades.

Informed by both Golestaneh's involvement in musical performance and visual art and Cooper's electronic production resume, as well as their time in the States and abroad, they operate as a multi-disciplined entity in the spirit and ethos of Factory Records. Tempers describe their creative process as a telepathic kinship they've developed since they started making music together: "We have these sort of unspoken criteria when we're writing music. We never really need to explain what that is but we both know when it's missing or when we've hit it." After a string of critically acclaimed singles beginning in 2013 with "Eyes Wide Wider" b/w "Hell Hotline," the duo released their debut LP "Services" (2015) on cult imprint Aufnahme + Wiedergabe resulting in the underground club hit "Strange Harvest", extensive international touring and sold-out shows. The album's vinyl edition soon became a sought after collectors item. Director Amanda Kramer’s prompts for composer Ben Babbitt’s soundtrack to her enigmatic film Paris Window read like magnetic fridge poetry – “warped ambient bumper muzak tension” – but the results skew closer to some hypnagogic contemporary noir: lulling, low-lit, and laced with lingering dread. Electronics, strings, and percussion swoon and seethe in heady mirages of dreams and delirium, romance and menace. The narrative it accompanies is equally opaque and out of time: two eccentric siblings psychologically unravel through divergent fixations, one obsessed with the hypnotic infomercials of a mysterious self-help institute while the other falls in love with an ambiguous doppelganger.
Babbitt’s background scoring experiential video games (Kentucky Route Zero) and collaborating with exploratory songwriters (Angel Olsen, Weyes Blood, Eartheater) is evident in his versatility and finesse, flowing fluidly between minimal and maximal modes. Like all dynamic film music, the pieces weave a story of their own. Serene synthetic swells decay into murmuring television static and eerie vocal fragments; close-mic’d drones turn acidic then claustrophobic, mirroring sleep paralysis transformed into panic. Babbitt builds a window into a surreal world, seen through shadows and smeared, street-lit glass.
