We've seen some really big remixes from this man the last years, like the brilliant remix of LSG's classic "Netherworld"; but no solo release yet appeared - so we're extra proud on this one. In the past CJ Bolland created major albums like "Electronic Highway" & "The 5th Sign" which made a statement in the underground scene. We don't need to explain what this man has meant to the underground Techno Scene and still does. We still remember hits like "The Prophet" & offcourse "Camargue" which are legendary. Am 31. Dezember 1973 spielten AC/DC ihre erste Show im Chequers Nightclub in Sydney. Heute, 50 Jahre nach diesem Gig, sind sie veritable Rocklegenden, die Millionen von Tonträgern verkauft haben, aber nicht im Entferntesten daran denken, sich aufs Altenteil zurückzuziehen. When in January, 1970 Count Basie entered the studio with his 17-piece big band
to record 'High Voltage', he ushered in the last full decade as bandleader of his
Orchestra. The Orchestra had left its imprint on the sixties by recording with the
likes of Frank Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald. There would be more great albums with
star vocalists in the seventies, but the band's purely instrumental works, which
had begun in 1965, would also continue. Back then Basie had engaged acclaimed
Cuban composer/arranger Chico O'Farrill to arrange the music for such concept
albums as "Basie Meets Bond" and "Basie's Beatle Bag", transforming them into
crossover gems.
On 'High Voltage' O'Farrill demonstrates his affinity to Basie's big band sound, this
time with a repertoire of standards. For this album, Basie specifically chose
pieces the band had never recorded in their more than 30-year existence. This is
saying something, since the band covers such an impressive span of jazz history,
from the beginning of the swing era to the bop-influenced bands of the 50's on
through to the present album.
The Count's new drummer Harold Jones propels Fred Fisher's "Chicago" with a
tremendous drive. The Rogers and Hart classic "Have You Met Miss Jones"
features beguilingly dense deep- register horn lines and an almost languorous
piano, and Eric Dixon's tasty flute solo spices up "The Lady Is A Tramp". With its
smoky sophistication, Eddie Lockjaw Davis' Tenor dominates "Bewitched",
whereas guest trumpeter Joe Newman's muted tongue-in-cheek solo highlights
"Day In Day Out". Of course, Basie himself also steps forward: for instance, on the
Fats Waller-like intro to "I'm Getting Sentimental Over You", and with the playful
grace notes on "If I Were A Bell"." Reminiscent of the Las Vegas shows the band
performed with Frank Sinatra, "Get Me To The Church On Time" is also a
masterful dialogue between the horn sections.

Harlem's legendary Disco label Queen Constance has long been a cult favourite among fans of underground dance music for decades.

One of many labels operating under the equally legendary P&P family of imprints Queen Constance was operated by one Peter Brown, a truly colossal figure in NYC's music scene, its catalogue still fascinates music lovers to this day. Covering a wide range of styles including Gospel, early Rap and Disco the label's output continually finds it way into the playlists of respected DJ's and selectors across the globe. This latest repress from the vaults is a real biggie - a true NYC underground disco CLASSIC!

High Voltage is one of the more familiar names in the P&P / Queen Constance galaxy. Led by Peter Brown and Patrick Adams right hand man and producer Michael Campbell who presided over some of the biggest and best sides the labels put out. This one is a must, essential, do not sleep business. 11.00 minutes of Disco fury! One is forgiven in thinking that this would've been huge had it have come out on one of the 'bigger' Disco labels, but that hasn't stopped 'Rock, spank, freak' becoming a true blue club anthem. Appearing in the playlists of DJ's and selectors as diverse as Larry Levan, Danny Krivit and Daniele Baldelli. Rough n'ready, unpolished but musically explosive the sounds contained on this here 12" are indeed High Voltage! As with a lot of these jams, this one's been badly bootlegged, so ignore those wack counterfeits that are out there and bag you a fully licensed reissue of this absolute bomb. Dope.
