Hand-numbered vinyl edition of 500 copies is 180gramLP in window-cut artboard jacket that frames eight different images from Magid's The Barragan Archives project, printed on four 12"x12" art card inserts including an artworked inner sleeve. The original score for the acclaimed feature-length artworld documentary by multi-disciplinary artist Jill Magid: an exploration of the contested legacy of the Mexican architect Luis Barragan and an art intervention in its own right. Griffin wrote, performed and recorded The Proposal soundtrack with an understated but wide-ranging electro-acoustic sensibility that organically compliments the film's enigmatic narrative and the discreet beauty of Barragan's architectural spaces. Various acoustic instruments combine with electronics, sampling and ambient treatments for an ever-shifting suite of musical vignettes across the album's thirteen tracks. Guest musicians include Matana Roberts, Reut Regev, Jim White (Xylouris White, The Dirty Three), Jason Ajemian (Helado Negro), and Sophie Trudeau and Timothy Herzog (Godspeed You! Black Emperor) alongside Griffin's own contributions on multiple instruments, field recordings and production. Griffin weaves an iridescent musical tapestry, threading various genres with sublime thematic and atmospheric coherence, echoing Magid's contemplative, cerebral journey. The music also works enchantingly on its own as a subtly haunted, evocative and meditative album.

From Mississippi, Veatrice Thomas moved to Los Angeles and in 1967 began recording as Ty Karim. She worked closely with her writer/producer husband Kent Harris since her debut single 'Lighten Up Baby' through to the rare groove/modern soul masterpiece 'Keep On Doin'' first released in 1980. Both the 7' and 12' have been highly desirable on the collectors scene, exchanging hands for vast sums of money. This is pure quality, as you would expect from Expansion. Features co-lead vocals by George Griffin.

"I love you" is arguably one of the best obscure soul ballads out there. The highly anticipated re-release of this rare and collectable 45 is another collaboration with my good friend Brian Sears, Brooklyn based collector/researcher. Hailing from Dallas, Willie Griffin is a self-taught guitarist and singer-songwriter with a very unique style, which is on full display on both sides of this record. Although "I Love You" has long been a favorite among ballad collectors, do not sleep on "Where There's Smoke, There's Fire". For this limited release we were ecstatic to uncover the original master tape from 1984, in pristine condition, yielding the perfect reproduction. We hope you enjoy this special record.

You should all know by now I have collected a good few records in my time, hunting down that perfect beat. In search of that special piece I have found a deep love for the old soul ballads and funk that were for me great social statements, telling it just how it was.

Growing up with these tunes and owning them I began to realise if someone didn't represent them to the next generation they would be long lost and forgotten. So please... enjoy this time capsule of music from another time... you'll hear nothing's changed!

The third and final full-length, double album from the Elephant 6 Recording Co. co-founders. Their first record in 27 years from the Athens, GA band. A legend is a heavy thing to carry. It has been 27 years since the last album by The Olivia Tremor Control. In that time, they have influenced countless bands, been the subject of documentaries and biographies, and now, finally, improbably, there is a third Olivia Tremor Control album. In the 1990s, The Olivia Tremor Control released two albums of experimental and psychedelic pop genius, Music from the Unrealized Script: Dusk at Cubist Castle (1996), and Black Foliage: Animation Music Vol. 1 (1999). As founding members of the Elephant 6 collective, they redefined the US underground scene, injecting bright paisley colors and sonic adventure into a scene weighed down by grim irony and a fear of pretension. Work began on the album as far back as 2005 but progress was slowed by other projects, other responsibilities, but in 2010, the band of Hart, Doss, John Fernandes, Pete Erchick, Eric Harris, and Derek Almstead began to record. By 2011 The Olivia Tremor Control had reemerged as a fully active band and added AJ Griffin to the lineup as well as touring members Scott Spillane and Robbie Cucchario. The band was now recording constantly and were fast on their way to completing the album. Then in the summer of 2012, Bill Doss suddenly, tragically passed away. With everyone still in shock and grieving, work on The Same Place came to a halt. Every attempt to resume the project stalled until 2023, when, after watching the Elephant 6 Documentary, Athens producer/musician Jason NeSmith came on board to help. In 2024, with the album nearly finished, Will Hart unexpectedly passed away. Drawing on Will's extensive collections of notes, The Same Place was finally completed by the surviving band members, the broader Elephant 6 community, and producers Derek Almstead, Jason NeSmith, and Ron Kwasman. The Same Place does everything The Olivia Tremor Control ever did well. It also does it better, and goes further, than anyone could have imagined was possible.

Early ‘80s boogie business from De De, ‘S & M (Sexy Music)’, gets a much-deserved, official reissue. OG copies regularly trade hands for £30+ so it’s high time this sweet sexiness found its way out of more sound systems.

With a title like ‘S&M (Sexy Music)’ it was only ever going to be a sleazy, sexy, synthy heater, drenched in tantalising keys, spacey arps, funk guitars and salacious vocals. And with the production prowess of George Kerr & Reggie Griffin behind it - who produced, wrote and arranged for the likes of The O’Jays, Treacherous Three, The Whatnauts and Patti Labelle to name only a handful – it had certified party starter written all over it!

Two mixes take either side of this full frontal 12 inch. The A side houses the ‘Rated G’ mix, where layered vocals trade off from male to female and sleazed up saxes parade through the later stages as that short but sweet rap rolls around. The B side’s ‘Rated X’ mix adds even steamier verses with ever more female power behind them and extra unadulterated, squelching bass into the pot.

Sensuous offerings from De De that will get any crowd crying out for more.

Building on their shared exploration of forward-leaning UK club sounds, EM + STAV herald the arrival of their new label JoyLift with the Endless EP. Having entrenched themselves within the free-spirited landscape of Bristol’s music community, the pair home in on a focused sound which draws on the city’s storied bass mutations as a springboard for their own take on modernist dance music.

There’s a tough, brooding quality to Endless EP which speaks to the meditative pressure of soundsystem immersion, but equally EM + STAV build out evocative, shifting narratives within that club-ready framework. From dubwise processing to deft sound design, a broad church of processes are wielded to shape out these pieces, and physicality comes in many forms whether in weightless sub lines or pointed, angular drum programming. Given their long-standing connection to developments within the underground music scene, there’s a keen instinct for the dynamic shifts which can set a dance alight, while the ill- defined shape of the wider genre-not-genre allows plenty of space for movement and experimentation.

Alongside the three original productions from EM + STAV, kindred spirit Forest Drive West steps up for a remix of ‘Odd' which aligns with the aesthetic intentions of JoyLift while demonstrating the idiosyncratic qualities associated with the scene’s most vital artists. The cohesive feel of Endless EP extends to Luke Griffin’s artwork, in which natural source material undergoes heavy processing to wind up in a striking new form, shot through with colour but ultimately shrouded in a moodiness that harks back through the lineage of hardcore-rooted UK dance music.

By its very nature the future is unwritten for JoyLift, but EM + STAV’s new project commits itself to an ever-evolving palette of sound, rendered as music with a strong sense of identity - tracks to shake the dance without resorting to obvious tropes, responding to and feeding into the inspiring tides of ideas emanating from the environment around them.

Oftentimes in this busy and chaotic world it’s challenging to draw a parallel between two congruent events. In this case drawing its inspiration from Detroit’s meteoric rise from the ruins
of the past, BerettaMusic a label founded in Detroit in 2002 who took a several year hiatus is back in a big way, also rising from the ashes like it’s birth city has done.

Ryan Sadorus who co-founded the label with Brian Kage delivers some next level quirky Detroit house jams. Already getting spins by local Detroit DJ’s and the verdict is in and the tracks are
dance floor ready and sure to get people moving. The release also features vinyl artwork by renowned midwest artist Jon Griffin featured on full color vinyl jackets.

First off is “Slippah”, a shuffling and quirky bass heavy stormer. The track builds through various levels dropping into syncopated and distorted vocal riffs, lifting its way into some pulsing
synth stabs with perfectly timed filtering which lends itself to the overall energy rise through the track. With a huge breakdown and vocal stab sequence, it’s sure to have them moving! “Hit
'em with da slippah!”

Expansive is a chugging deep house tune with atmospheric synth business to really set the mood anytime of the night. A deep bassline carries the tune along into a breakdown complete with a quote from the man himself, Carl Sagan.

Brian Kage delivers a stunning remix of Expansive, imprinting his own defined style he’s known for as he keeps things level grounded with evolving Detroit-inspired soulful elements.

Last but not least, “Flexxin” is ripping speaker work out of epic proportions. Another quirky, bass heavy jam that will definitely wake up the dance floor. Griffintown Records welcomes house mainstay and Moxy Muzik boss Darius Syrossian for another of his superb singles. It comes after the UK artist has continued to serve up a wealth of killer tunes and just as he returns to laying down his vital sets all over Europe and beyond.

'Faux Base' is a chunky track with rock solid drums. The bass is warm and fat, the hi hats are razor sharp and the whole thing builds in subtle fashion before a big drop that will blow the roof off. 'Persepolis' is another turbo charged house kicker. There is techno energy in the tight drums and an infectious sense of funk in the bass as the hi hats and symbols splash about the mix.

This is another forward thinking and highly effective EP from Darius.

Trotz vielen modernen Strömungen in den letzten 30 Jahren, sind es doch die traditionellen Spielarten des Heavy Metal, die den Motor am Laufen halten und auf die junge und alte Fans immer wieder zurückgreifen.
Diese Box repräsentiert drei Alben aus den „goldenen Achtzigern“, während die LP von OBLIVION beweist, dass es im Underground auch in den Neunzigern Musik jenseits von Grunge und Crossover gab. Die US-Metal-Legende GRIFFIN ist die bekannteste Band in dieser Box. Ihre beiden Alben auf dem Steamhammer Label (in den USA auf Shrapnel) gelten heute als Klassiker und man tritt sogar noch sporadisch auf, unter andere, beim Keep It True Festival. Enthalten ist das zweite Album „Protectors Of The Lair“ als Doppel-LP mit einem neuen Remix, aber auch mit dem Original als Remaster. HAMMER´S RULE gehören zu den besten Underground US-Metal Bands. In Deutschland wurden deren EP und LP zusammengeschnitten und man konnte das Werk der Gruppe nicht vollständig erwerben. Golden Core haben das nun gelöst, in dem der LP eine zusätzliche 7“ Single beiliegt. Somit hat man „Show No Mercy“ zusammen mit „After The Bomb“ endlich komplett und das auch noch remastert. Hammer´s Rule fallen durch einen melodischen, aber harten und teils epischen Stil, sowie durch eine der besten Rhythmusgruppen im US-Metal auf. SQUADRON aus Deutschland wurden erst kürzlich „entdeckt“ und gelten seitdem als eine der besten unsigned Bands des German Metal der Achtziger.
Es ist zudem die erste Band von Drummer Klaus Sperling, der in Folge mit Primal Fear, Sinner oder Nitrogods bekannt wurde. Squadron habe zwei professionell klingende Demos aufgenommen, die hier nun erstmals restauriert und gemastert vorliegen.

Fans und Presse sind sich einig: Hätte diese Band ein Album bei den damals einschlägigen Labels veröffentlicht, wären sie heute bekannt wie Running Wild oder Helloween. OBLIVION haben in den Neunzigern eine CD in Eigenregie veröffentlicht – ganz schlechte Zeiten für einen kreativen, aber dennoch traditionellen Heavy Metal-Stil. „Reflections“ wurde nach und nach zur Rarität und zu einem Sammlerobjekt, aber die Rufe nach einer Vinylausgabe wurden lauter. Golden Core haben reagiert und dieses versteckte Kleinod auf LP veröffentlicht

'Where the Smoke Goes captures the conscious and unconscious of Johnny Coley in duet between 2020-2024 AD. Alabama-born, Marseille-based artist Turner Williams Jr. wraps a selection of his dear friend Johnny’s penultimate compositions in arresting tone poems.
'The music buzzes and hums with distant trains, trembling strings, and lapping water, haloing our protagonist in a humid glow as he considers whether horses can live to 70 years old, cigarettes potent enough to knock you on your ass, and orchids facing the wrath of winter storms.
'This work began in the first Covid spring, as Johnny's advancing multiple sclerosis gave way to a permanent domestic confinement and a final period of prolific creativity. Johnny braved the toxic gales of social media to share his thriving poetry and visual art practice and to keep in touch with friends like Turner, who had recently moved abroad. For the first time, Johnny recorded himself, sending Turner fresh poems, day and night.
'Taking cues from late era Coil and the operas of Robert Ashley, Turner approached these recordings both as language and pure sound, arranging accompanying mosaics that emerge as much from Johnny’s unseen text as his mercurial drawl. Tracks draw from Turner’s solo practice as well as sessions including Henry Birdsey of Old Saw, members of the French underground (Manoir Molle, Loto Retina, Mona Assayag) and close Birmingham collaborators (Jasper Lee, Jimmy Griffin, Ladonna Smith). The voice is parsed and played as an instrument and each poem becomes a score.
'There is Johnny’s poetry and Johnny’s voice. These are two independent yet interwoven instruments. For Turner, Johnny's vocabulary, cadence, and timbre carry all of the contradictions that he writes about. His work is a dialogue of rich contradictions. "He plays with Southern American vernacular speech in his poetry while embodying it with his speech, creating a zone of emotional frisson. He loved combining opposites. Rough yet soft was one of his favourite descriptors", Turner recalls, "That was Johnny. ” Upon hearing the completed record, Johnny likened it to "a beautiful wood box, that when you open it there are fabrics shot through with silk threads and sharp fall woods smells - supporting and decorating the poems that fall out of them. ”
'This record captures something unconscious, atmospheric, and gives it unexpected materiality. Smoke that you can feel like grass under your feet. Stars that you can touch like a lover. Meeting for the final time in the summer or 2025, the time for words had passed so they just held hands and listened to the album opener Stargazer in silence as Johnny drifted off to sleep.'

Art Blakey is one of the inventors of the modern bebop style of drumming. Known as a powerful musician and a vital groover his brand of bluesy, funky hard bop was and continues to be profoundly influential on mainstream jazz. For more than 30 years, his band Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers included many young musicians who went on to become prominent names in jazz.

Released in the late fifties, A Night In Tunisia is a jazz milestone and prime example of Blakey's exceptional rhythmic prowess. This album is not all about drumming though; it leaves much space for great melodical interplay by fellow musicians Sam Dockery on piano, John Griffin and Ferris Benda on saxophone, Bill Hardman on trumpet and Jimmy De Brest on double bass.

A Night In Tunisia is available as a limited edition of 1500 individually numbered copies on orange vinyl, and is packaged in a deluxe sleeve with linen laminate finish.

Sans Merit arrives on Knekelhuis with his second album Trolley Polly. A radiant album from currently LA-based Australian musician Griffin James—one that leans into unguarded joy with a playful, disarming sincerity.

The album rocks right away into our world. Lifting off where the guitar pedals mash the gas and go. While at other moments the acoustic guitar passages carry a neofolk intimacy, like the low-voiced choir singer cast out of a pastoral world, left to wander in his own solitude. These moments are swept up by surging shoegaze episodes, slipping into hazy hypnagogic pop interludes and wiry post-punk turns, giving the record a restless, shifting pulse.

Beneath it all lies a lyrical sensitivity that grounds the album’s movement. Sans Merit reflects on the big questions in a world that feels increasingly fragile, balancing vulnerability with a self-aware, gently naïve humor, while staying attuned to the emotional undercurrents of everyday life. It’s this perspective that makes Trolley Polly feel so human—alive in its contradictions, and quietly comforting.

Reissue of South African pianist Abdullah Ibrahim's classic 1986 LP Water From An Ancient Well on magenta coloured vinyl It features the pianist/ composer with a very strong septet, including such superior musicians as tenor saxophonist Ricky Ford , altoist Carlos Ward , baritonist Charles Davis, and trombonist Dick Griffin who are heard at their most creative and emotional on these eight Ibrahim originals. Long Ryder guitarist/mandolinist Sid Griffin states 'High Noon Hymns' is “two thirds the distilled altcountry genre we helped found back in the 1980s, one third Paisley Underground adventurism yet with a dash of our own crazed soulfulness thrown in." Due to the unexpected passing of Long Ryders' bassist Tom Stevens, bass duties on the new album were shared by Murry Hammond of Americana stalwarts The Old 97s and The Long Ryders’ own Stephen McCarthy. McCarthy also performs live with The Jayhawks and occasionally records with the Dream Syndicate. Guests appearing in the album include DJ Bonebrake of X on vibes and young bluegrass wunderkind Wyatt Ellis on mandolin. The album was recorded at Kozy Tone Studios in sunny Poway, California.

Schon mit 8 Jahren entdeckte Andreas Neuderth, der seit Mitte der Achtziger nur noch den Spitzname NEUDI benutzt, sein Talent für das Schlagzeug. Sogar bereits schon etwas früher wurde er zum Fan harter
Rockklänge, die üblichen Verdächtigen wie Kiss, Status Quo und Rush. Mit 15 Jahren, im Jahr 1986, taucht sein Drumming erstmals auf einem Tape der Band SUDDEN DARKNESS auf, was 2026 zu einem Jubiläumsjahr für
den heute in Rheinhessen lebenden Musiker darstellt. Seine bekanntesten Stationen sind neben MANILLA ROAD (2011 bis zum Tod von Mark Shelton im Jahr 2018) und SAVAGE GRACE (2009/2010) aktuell TRANCE,
ROXXCALIBUR, ANGEL OF DAMNATION, IRONSWORD, JAMESON RAID und die Manilla Road-Nachfolgeband SENTRY. Das 1994er ECONOMIST Album „New Built Ghetto Status“ bezeichnet Neudi trotz all diesen genannten Namen als „eines der drei besten Alben, auf denen ich zu hören bin“. In der Tat darf man getrost sagen, dass es den Stil von ECONOMIST wohl nur einmal gibt. 1995 wurde die CD von Massacre/Intercord lizensiert, doch
mit dem progressiven Stil war man seiner Zeit einfach zu weit voraus.

Als Reissue, erstmals als Doppel LP mit dem unveröffentlichten zweiten Album „Mind Movies“ erschienen, erntete man nun endlich die verdient euphorischen Kritiken. VIRON (2004/2006 und 2008) war nach einer Zeit
der Experimente Neudis Rückkehr zum traditionellen Metal, den er als Fan auch zuvor nie verlassen hat. Die zwei hochgelobten Alben waren indirekt der Vorgänger der erfolgreicheren Band ROXXCALIBUR. SCROLLKEEPER
ist eine Band aus Texas, die für ihre EP „Wetico“ als Manilla Road-Fans mit Neudi zusammenarbeiten wollten. Neudi ist bekannt für sein „busy drumming“. Beeinflusst von Neil Peart (Rush), Randy Foxe (Manilla Road) oder Ian Paice (Deep Purple) bietet er nicht nur die genreübliche Rhythmusarbeit „im Hintergrund“, sondern bringt das Instrument teils auffällig in den Vordergrund. Tears Before Bedtime is the sparkling new album by the Would-be-goods, Jessica Griffin’s band of pop adventurers. The songs on Tears Before Bedtime balance delicacy and power. Perfect pop melodies are delivered in Jessica’s gorgeous and idiosyncratic voice. Her lyrics are intelligent and wry, wistful and witty. Every song tells a story, taking us on a journey through space and time, from belle époque Paris to a 1960s London biker café, from a riverbank in ancient Greece to a 1970s teenage bedroom.
Listening to a Would-be-goods album is like wandering through a gallery of portraits. Innocence gives way to experience. Danger lurks amid the lights of the funfair in the 1950s carousel whirl of The Gallopers. The sinister Dr Love promises heaven but sends you down to hell, to the sound of a last dance in a smoky soul basement. A nymph meets a god in disguise in a garage-band take on a Greek myth (Tears for Leda). The Rose Tattoo is the tale of a doomed love in a sultry Southern state. Don't Come Crying To Me flames an ex-lover to the sound of Bollywood horns and shivery guitar. In Madame X a portrait painter vents his fury on a spoilt socialite beauty. The album closes with a sweetly jazzy lullaby (The Moon Doesn't Mind).
The Would-be-goods began playing as a full band in the 2000s and have been previewing some of these songs at recent shows in England, Scotland, France, and Spain. The album was recorded in London with Jessica on guitar and vocals, Peter Momtchiloff (Heavenly, Talulah Gosh) on guitar, Debbie Greensmith (Thee Headcoatees and many others) on drums, and Andy Warren (The Monochrome Set, Adam and the Ants) on bass. Guest musicians have contributed organ, piano, vibraphone, cello, trumpet, and flute to make this the richest-sounding Would-be-goods record yet.

Produced by Lee Moore with Stax musicians, including guitarist Michael Toles, keyboard player Lester Snell, and drummer Willie Hall, all members of the Isaac Hayes Movement. He also hired bassist Ray Griffin who recorded numerous sessions for both Stax and Malaco Records.

A new release from Fox & His Friends Records, Chapters (Screen & Stage Dancefloor Jazz from Yugoslavia 1971-1984) by Ozren Depolo brings to light a trove of previously unreleased music spanning more than a decade of his work in film, theater and television. This gatefold audiophile 180g LP, including a 12-page booklet with archival photos and detailed liner notes, offers for the first time a full album composed exclusively of Depolo's own authorship, drawn from master tapes held in private and institutional archives. Mastering and cutting was done by Frank Merritt from The Carvery Ozren Depolo rarely pursued opportunities to record original material, in part due to a general lack of interest among local publishers in jazz discography. Yet he was more than a gifted composer: he was also an accomplished saxophonist, clarinettist, flutist, pianist, arranger and occasionally, a jazz journalist who contributed articles to specialized programs on Radio Zagreb. Depolo also played in international big bands alongside jazz greats such as Clark Terry, Oliver Nelson and Gerry Mulligan, as well as in formations led by Bosko Petrovic, including the Nonconvertible All Stars and the B.P. Convention Big Band. He was a member of ensembles including The Alfi Kabiljo Orchestra, The Dragutin Diklic Ensemble, Jugoslovenska Pop Selekcija, The Stipica Kalogjera Octet, Vaclav Zahradnik & His East All Stars Band and the Zagreb Jazz Quintet. As both composer and arranger, he produced a significant body of work for large jazz orchestras and small ensembles. He was deeply engaged in jazz improvisation and avant-garde classical music, recording numerous chamber pieces for saxophone. A long-standing member of Acezantez, Zagreb's renowned contemporary music ensemble, he also collaborated with international figures such as Ted Curson, John Lewis, Johnny Griffin, Art Farmer, Leo Wright, Art Taylor, Slide Hampton and Lucky Thompson. This selection also includes his collaboration with Igor Savin and jazz vocalist Zdenka Kovacicek who were played on Karl Lagerfeld's fashion shows. The release demonstrates how Depolo was able to shift fluidly between idioms: from driving big-band passages to intimate chamber-like arrangements, from funk-tinged motifs to lyrical, impressionistic soundscapes. This stylistic breadth, always anchored in his deep jazz and funk sensibility, gave his music an adaptability perfectly suited to the hybrid world of stage and screen. The LP highlights that versatility while also presenting the coherence of his artistic voice, one that had gone unrecognized precisely because it was dispersed across so many contexts.

In March 2024, Jim White released his first-ever solo album, All Hits: Memories. Coming forty years into his career, it felt like some kind of breakthrough happening. His second solo album confirms it: Jim"s deep percussive intuition is fueling a new musical vehicle in his life. Inner Day finds him dancing ever more deftly with himself on an expressionistic set of drum kit and keyboard duets. Developing meditations on his personal arcana into expressive keyboard feels, he crafts parts as he would on the kit, further interacting with them on drums as well. Jim takes another big step on Inner Day, singing on two standout tracks, "Inner Day" and "I Don"t Do / Grand Central," his words and voice in the mix for the first time. A drummer of exquisite powers, great and small - his Dirty Three compatriot Warren Ellis contends his playing long ago "split the atom" - Jim"s capable of driving a band one minute, then slipping past accompaniment and into the cracks of the subliminal in the next breath. Mustang Island, the third album from Austin-based band Little Mazarn, is a gentle force. Waves of grief crest like surf on the Texas coast. Wild horses break through long-shuttered gates, only to come back around. Lead songwriter, vocalist, and multi-instrumentalist Lindsey Verrill (she/her) joins bandmates jeff Johnston (he/him) and Carolina Chauffe (they/thern), The tensong, collection continues work with Dear Life Records. A full-throated romp through the capabilities of community-minded songcraft, Mustang Island is both naturalistic and futuristic, completely recasting Little Mazarn's origins in primitive folk. Instead, the band reaches towards sonic experimentation and spacious expansion. Lindsey's heart-opening vocals and jeff's singing saw, both trademarks of the project, mix with unexpected bombastic drums, dissonant synthesizers, and a chorus of orchestral oddities. This mid-career ode dances confidently in the creative liberties granted by decades in the game - more dazzlingly lively, and honestly somber, than ever before. The band's crossroads branch across prominent Southern outsider music: On cello, Lindsey has recorded with Patty Griffin and Dana Falconberry. The longtime side player wouldn't write her first song until age 34, Jeff has played in Bill Callahan's band, as well as with LIl Capin Travis and Orange Mothers. Carolina is known for prolific solo project hemlock, Little Mazarn has also collaborated with Lomelda to release their last EP, Honey Island General store (2023), following past LPs Texas River Song (2022) and lo (2019). Alongside silliness and reverence, including covers from Kate Wolf and Bob Wills * His Texas Playboys, griet directs much of Mustang Island. Lindsey left her job of seventeen years teaching cello at a local school, Recording also aligned with the passing of Jeff's facher, a career educator in Jeff and Lindsey's hometown of Dallas. "Grief, and the avoidance of grief, is a big part of being human," says Lindsey. "You make a choice, and then you grieve for the other choice. Or you finish a meal and literally grieve that it was so good. If you really befriend griet, you re like, 'Oh, it's here, in this pancake, which I loved so much that I ate the whole thing, and now it's gone.**

Dies war die Entstehung von "Heathen Spirituals", das fünfte aufgenommene Werk von Harris' abenteuerlichem Ambient-Ensemble Thor & Friends und das erste, das einer himmlischen Wiederholung der Live-Auftritte der Gruppe aus Austin ähnelt. Es ist ein jahrhundertealtes Konzept: eine Platte in einer leeren Musikhalle aufzunehmen. Die rhythmische Wiederholung der Eröffnungsséance ,Anne Sexton's Glasses" evoziert ein kognitives Crescendo, während das bezaubernde "Christmas Eve at the Wizard's House" ein Gefühl der Schwerelosigkeit hervorruft. Seit 2011 und mit sieben Alben hat das explosive Trio immer größere Erfolge gefeiert und sich Aufmerksamkeit und Anerkennung bei Rock-Fans und Jazz-Anhänger:innen gleichermaßen erarbeitet. Der Bandname lässt eventuell auf Jazz schließen, nur dass in der Besetzung vom Hedvig Mollestad Trio Klavier, Saxophon oder Trompete nicht auftauchen. Stattdessen: Gitarre, Schlagzeug, (Kontra-) Bass und Songs, die gerne mal die Melvins beschwören (Blood Witch). Jazz ist hier also in erster Linie Rock und keine Kammermusik. Mollestad lässt ihre Gitarre dabei unablässig und vom Overdrive getrieben jaulen, tänzelt die Skalen auf und ab, rifft sich durch die halsbrecherischsten Soli und spielt dennoch geerdet mit dem satten Groove von Schlagzeug und Bass. Nach arbeitsreichenJahren (solo, mit Weejuns, Soundtracks und Auftragsarbeiten) verspürte Mollestad den starken Drang, zum Kern zurückzukehren, der immer das Trio war, mit dem alles 2011 und dem starken Debütalbum Shoot! begann. Die Aufregung war groß, als es ins Studio ging, und da ein Großteil der Musik recht kompliziert ist, mit vielen kleinen Variationen und langen Strukturen, waren die Studio-Sessions extrem fokussiert und konzentriert. Hedvig betont, dass das Hauptziel des Trios darin besteht, immer Spaß zu haben, ob im Studio oder auf der Bühne, und diese Freude mit den Zuhörern zu teilen. Beim Hören von Bees In The Bonnet wird deutlich, wie sehr das Trio es vermisst hat, gemeinsam neue Musik zu machen, und dass sie sowohl als Songschreiber als auch als Musiker sehr gut sind. Frontfrau Hedvig Mollestad präsentiert sich hier nicht nur als Riffmeisterin, sondern auch als Sologitarristin, die den bereits angestellten Vergleichen mit Tony Iommi und Jimmy Page mehr als gerecht wird.

The compilation features four tracks. Longtime friends Awoke (aka John Griffin) and Jack Buser write the two cuts on the A-side. These guys have known each other for many years and the complimentary nature of their tracks echo their years long relationship. Both use analog gear in their productions. In fact, that is an understatement as both are engineers by day and admitted audio gear junkies by night. Awoke's Untitled #2843 is a quirky drama builder throwing the In My House vocal over squelches and acid lines. Buser's Midi Boson is a classic exercise in simplicity. Drums from an MPC and a lead from Elektron's Monomachine are all it takes for this groove to rattle the dance floor.

Side B is also the work of two close friends. Nathan Drew Larsen remixes Little Turtles by Souls Found. Mazi edits Nathan's remix (released earlier on Fresh Meat's When Bad People Cook Good Food Volume 3) to 6 minutes, removing the atmospheric outro and reducing some of the extended sections. What remains is an energetic workout that is uncommonly melodic and emotional. As Audio Soul Project, Mazi's remix 3 of Sentimental Love combines sections from the first two of his remixes of this song released on Vizual Records back in 2011. This new version will hopefully express the care and love that went into preserving the message of Joshua Iz and Chez Damier's original.

Madronas’ debut LP Erogenous Biome is an amorphous, murky, cathartic offering. A duet of modular synthesizer and winds that’s equal parts doom and ecstasy, it’s the sound of a majestic butterfly emerging from it’s slimy chrysalis just in time to catch the sun setting on the end of days, a bewitching, heavy ceremony, a power-wash of both mind and spirit.

Tracked in one continuous take at Brooklyn’s Heavy Meadow studio, individual tracks were gleaned from the purge and eschew predictable structures, making for a dense, fluid suite of improvisation, like dancing smoke ribbons in the dark. The duo's chosen sound sources are seemingly opposite - Ry Fyan’s modular’s coming from electronic oscillators, Isaiah Barr’s saxophone and various flutes originating with the breath - but the visceral, imprecise, alive quality to the sound of both lends the record a thrilling combination of rapturous harmony and gritty, intense friction.

Opening the session in ritualistic, foreboding fashion, Voluntary lurches to life with rattles and wandering, bassy arpeggios before a suona’s cry signals the seance has officially begun. Ostraca Loam spits explosive modular rhythms and eerie shrieks for the flute to float above, while Detritus Harp smudges mechanical whirring, pensive horn and wind chimes for an untethered drift. Petrified Microdot swells with menacing sci-fi sequences and breathtaking sax runs until they both run out of breath, and Negative Lingam starts out in a panic of breathy riffing before exhaling into one of the most sublime passages on the record. Rhythmic pounding and undulating flutes punctuate Lenticular Shroud, before The Preparation Of The Novel sets the winds aside for a synthesized dual fit for electric dreams. The title track dominates the B-side, it's shimmering levity slowly unfurling to reveal itself as a kind of post-apocalyptic devotional music, deep space drifting grounded by earthly flutes, and Vale Of Cashmere offers an ascetic, contemplative closure, sparse flute and chiming rhythms organic or electronic - by this time it’s hard to know, it doesn’t matter either way.

Erogenous Biome is a world of it’s own, and one Impatience is honored to offer a window into.

Madronas is Ry Fyan and Isaiah Barr. Fyan is a painter and tattoo artist, this is his first release. Barr is a prolific instigator of the downtown New York scene, producing and playing saxophone in jazz circles with his group Onyx Collective, as a player and/or producer on records by Nick Hakim, David Byrne and Wiki, performing live with William Parker and as part of his projects Universal Space Jam and Cafe Dewanee.

Erogenous Biome was recorded and mastered by Griffin Jennings at Heavy Meadow, Brooklyn.
