Phantom Of The Paradise is a legendary 1974 American musical horror film written and directed by Brian De Palma, and starring Paul Williams, William Finley and Jessica Harper.

In the film, a disfigured composer writes his music for a woman he loves so that she will perform his music. However, a record producer betrays him and steals his music to open his rock palace, The Paradise. Betrayed, the composer dons a new appearance and exacts revenge on the producer.

Initially, the film was a box office failure and received negative reviews, however it earned praise for its music, receiving Academy Award and a Golden Globe nominations. Over the years, the film has become a true cult classic.

John Coltrane's landmark 1961 jazz album My Favorite Things was born of the same recording sessions that yielded a majority of the albums Coltrane Plays the Blues (1962), Coltrane's Sound (1964), and Coltrane Legacy. That My Favorite Things was recorded in less than three days was in itself, remarkable. This record marked a significant turning point in Coltrane's career and showcased his distinctive playing style, which continues to inspire and influence musicians to this day. Coltrane's playing on My Favorite Things can be described as innovative, exploratory, and deeply emotive. The unforced, practically casual soloing styles of the assembled quartet — which includes Coltrane (soprano/tenor sax), McCoy Tyner (piano), Steve Davis (bass), and Elvin Jones (drums) — allow for tastefully executed passages à la the Miles Davis Quintet, a trait Coltrane no doubt honed during his tenure in that band, notes AllMusic. Coltrane was known for pushing the boundaries of jazz and expanding the possibilities of the saxophone as an instrument. Throughout the album, Coltrane's improvisations are characterized by their intensity, virtuosity, and sheer creativity. The title track is a modal rendition of the Rodgers and Hammerstein song "My Favorite Things" from The Sound of Music. Coltrane's use of modal playing made him a pioneer — modal jazz emphasizes improvisation over specific chord progressions. Coltrane's modal approach allowed him to explore a broader range of tonal colors and to create more open and expansive musical landscapes. Each track of this album is a joy to revisit. The ultimate listenability may reside in this quartet's capacity to not be overwhelmed by the soloist. As a soloist, the definitive soprano sax runs during the Cole Porter standard "Everytime We Say Goodbye" and tenor solos on "But Not for Me" easily establish Coltrane as a pioneer of both instruments. In 1998, My Favorite Things received the Grammy Hall of Fame award. The album attained gold record certified status in 2018, having sold 500,000 copies. We've given this definitive reissue of such a landmark album the presentation it deserves: Mastered directly from the original master tape by Ryan K. Smith at Sterling Sound and cut at 45 RPM. Pressed on 180-gram vinyl at Quality Record Pressings, and housed in tip-on old style gatefold double pocket jackets with film lamination by Stoughton Printing.

THE YUM YUMS have been Norway's leading power pop ambassadors for nearly 20 years, and still going strong with a solid following outside of Norway. Power-pop, with 70's punk and glam rock influences, played fast with sweet harmonies that would give The Beach Boys cavities. "Sweet As Candy" was originally released in two different versions. First in 1997 by german label Screaming Apple, then, a year later on Universal Music in Norway. This here is the Norwegian version on vinyl for the first time.

Tony West was raised in the Bronx on New York Dolls, Ramones, Bad Brains, and NYHC. Hearing the call of the wild west, Tony made his way to Los Angeles at 19 years old. He initially collaborated with guitarist Todd Youth (Murphy’s Law/Danzig) in Malfunkshun, which was kept active by Andy Wood’s brother Kevin Wood. Tony took a break from L.A. to try out Memphis in 1998. While he was there, he attended the first Saliva gig with Paul Crosby on drums. This historic event marked the beginning of a lifelong friendship between Paul and Tony, ultimately leading to a management collaboration and Paul joining Blacklist Union. In addition, Tony recorded with Saliva and Jon E. Love (Love/Hate) in 2014. Tony decided to go in his own direction in 2006. With a shamanistic blend of Stone Temple Pilots, G N’ R, Malfunkshun, and New York Dolls… Blacklist Union was born. Blacklist Union have released four albums to date and are putting the finishing touches on their upcoming release ‘Letters from the Psych Ward.’ The first two singles and videos for “The Queen of Everything” and “Letters from the Psych Ward” are out now. The next single and video, “Dirty Halo” will be out next, with an album release in September

Now-Again Records presents catalog-wide reissues of Latin music propellant Joe Bataan’s legendary Ghetto Records. The series concludes with Drug Story - Rare and unreleased material from Joe Bataan and his Ghetto Records vaults, including an entire side of Bataan’s neverbefore-issued Latin Funk that spans the gamut from Salsa to Soul. Drug Story was inspired by true events and ranks highest among Bataan’s finest achievements as the poet laureate of El Barrio. Ghetto Records was Joe Bataan’s way to get over on “The Man” and out of the ‘hood, a bold move by an artist looking for independence and creative control in an industry that had exploited his talents and treated him like chattel. As Bataan puts it today, “Ghetto Records was part of my journey, a stepping stone to everything else that I’ve done. I learned enough that it enabled me to get out of the box with my thinking, it showed me how to deal with adversity.” Like many dreams and schemes born of the street, this one was audacious, perhaps even reckless to a fault. Hatched from desperation yet full of hope Ghetto Records came crashing down shortly after its inception. The seven albums in its discography languished out of print - until now. These are the definitive reissues of these albums, licensed from Joe Bataan, with his oversight and input into a 16 page oversize book by Pablo Yglesias that details Bataan’s larger-than-imagination life and his little Latin label that could.

Albert Hammond is one of the most prolific, versatile songwriters and performers of his or any generation. His earliest solo hits include “It Never Rains in Southern California” and “The Free Electric Band.” His contributions to popular music (writing and and/or contributing to hit songs by Tina Turner, Whitney Houston, Willie Nelson and Julio Iglesias, Diana Ross, Starship, The Hollies, Joe Cocker, Johnny Cash, Aretha Franklin) cross genres and generations.  Body of Work is an all-new, original, and essential addition to this iconic canon. Autumn 1904 is a post-punk indie-rock band formed in 1982 in Edinburgh, Scotland by Allan Dumbreck (keyboards) and Ross Thom (guitar). The band originally became a five-piece (Billy Bowie – bass, Keith Falconer – drums, Billy Leslie – vocals) but grew to a seven piece in early 1983 (taking on two female backing vocalists, Indira Sharma and Lisa Cameron). Autumn 1904 were part of the DIY indie-rock movement in Edinburgh in the early to mid 1980’s kicked off by The Shop Assistants, they worked alongside The Wild Indians, Finitribe (originally Gallery Macabre) and Goodbye Mr MacKenzie, often performing together or attending each other’s shows.

In February 1984 the band performed at the John Peel Roadshow at Edinburgh University and afterwards were invited to record a BBC Radio 1 session which was broadcast three times on the Peel show. They were immediately courted by 11 major record and publishing companies. In March 1984 their song “I heard Catherine Sing” featured on the Deadbeat magazine compilation album “Deadbeat 1”. Internal tensions and health issues over the summer of 1984 held up development and caused Sharma and Cameron to leave the band.

The band first split in January 1985 with Thom, Bowie and Falconer going on to form The Crows with former members of First Priority, including future Glasgow Cathouse / Garage promoter Donald McLeod MBE. Dumbreck and Leslie reformed the band and performed throughout 1985 sometimes including Shirley Manson, then working with Goodbye Mr MacKenzie and later with Garbage. This line-up lasted until November 1985 when the band split again. Dumbreck went on to work with Scottish groups The Big Dish, Horse and Thrum. Later working extensively in music education setting up the music department at UWS where Jim Prime (Deacon Blue) and Paul McGeechan (Love and Money) became lecturing staff.

The line-up at the time of the Peel session was Dumbreck, Thom, Bowie, Falconer, Leslie and backing vocalists Indira Sharma and Lisa Cameron.

In May 2021, the original five members agreed to re-master / re-record the original material from their studio recordings for release. Work began with producer Liam McCluskey (Gun, King King, Twin Atlantic). Approaching Ian Smith in 2022 at independent record label Last Night from Glasgow for advice, he offered to release the album on the label. The final masters include Tippi from label-mates The Hedrons on vocals and a number of fresh recordings of material written in 1982-83 but never previously recorded.

London soul star Jordan Mackampa returns with a new album titled Welcome Home, Kid! out 16 February 2024 via AWAL. This new music sees Jordan come back to his love of R&B, soul, funk and gospel with references to Dru Hill and Blackstreet, producing a new sound that nods to his earlier soundcloud works and the nostalgia of his childhood. It's brazen and bold and presents an incredibly assured artist that is no longer afraid to show off their Blackness, queerness, or sexual expression in all their forms. Getting to this place has taken Jordan decades of growth, patience & gruelling lessons to reach this state and now he can stand in his Blackness proudly. This album tells the story of how he got to this place of self-worth and the stories of the varying complex but beautiful perspectives about the Black experience. He is open and honest about sex, intimacy, imposter syndrome and how he navigates healthy love, toxic heartbreak, friendships and forgiveness. The core theme of this record is introspection with Jordan explaining, “This was a big theme for me in writing a lot of these songs because no one else has lived life in my shoes, I really had to take other peoples’ opinions & stories out of the writing and put myself at the forefront of everything. Which in turn, made me put the guitar down more and stand centre stage naked in a way. Pelvis Wrestley's sophomore LP, ANDY, or: the Four Horsegirls of the Apocalypse, is a fantastical meditation on impermanence through the lens of missing persons, and people we miss. Written in the back-and-forth days of unclear pandemic guidelines, the songs are informed by the diasporas of 2020, where so many people relocated without even the suggestion of a goodbye party. The record is named for a previous Benjamin Violet project, ANDY, which saw its members relocate during lockdown. As Pelvis Wrestley, Violet repurposes the mythology of the titular demigod for a new era. Following the release of their debut record, "Vortexas Forever", the Austin-based group gained notoriety for their unique blend of Americana, baroque pop and 70s glam, reminiscent of Of Montreal, Sparklehorse and Arcade Fire. They garnered support from Kishi Bashi, The Austin Chronicle, Under The Radar, and was named NPR affiliate KUTX's artist of the month in June 2023.

Berlin-based label Distant Gaze unveils their highly anticipated second EP, a Various Artist compilation crafted as a collaboration among Clouzer’s circle of friends. This collection features four cosmic tracks designed for full throttle dance-floor journey. Embracing analogue bass-lines and a captivating soundscape, this EP promises an unparalleled auditory adventure.

Highlights include the extraterrestrial Dark Disco piece, a collaboration by Clouzer and Radondo “Time Warp”, alongside the monumental dance-floor killer – EBM remix by E-bony. People Who Aren"t There Anymore was co-produced by Future Islands and Steve Wright, and mixed by Steve Wright and Chris Coady (who returns to working with the band for the first time since 2014"s Singles).

Als letzter Teil der Feierlichkeiten zum 20-jährigen Bestehen von Maserati kommt "Pyramid of the Sun - Anniversary Edition" neu verpackt, von den Original-Masterbändern von Josh Bonati neu gemastert und ergänzt um die Bonustracks "Pyramid of the Moon" und "Pyramid of the Moon (The Field Remix)" sowie ein grandioses Live-Set von der SXSW Music Conference 2009.

Anna Calvis fesselnde und atmosphärische Kompositionen für der 5. und 6. Staffel von Peaky Blinders, der rekordverdächtigen BBC-Fernsehserie, werden über Domino Soundtracks veröffentlicht. Der Original Score umfasst 37 Tracks, die verschiedene Mitglieder der Shelby Company Limited sowie neuere Charaktere wie Oswald Mosley einbeziehen. "Javelin" verbindet musikalischen Schwung mit emotionaler Weite. Manchmal hat man das Gefühl, dass das Album von einem großen Team produziert wurde - aber das ist es ganz und gar nicht: Fast jeder Sound hier ist das Ergebnis von Stevens zu Hause, der selbst etwas geschaffen hat, das sich manchmal wie ein Zeugnis der Studio-Opulenz der 70er Jahre in Los Angeles anfühlt. Die Beiträge stammen von einem engen Freundeskreis - Adrienne Maree Brown, Hannah Cohen, Pauline Delassus, Megan Lui und Nedelle Torrisi -, die bei vielen Songs Harmonien beisteuern, sowie von Bryce Dessner, der bei "Shit Talk" akustische und elektrische Gitarre spielt. Der zärtliche und mystische Abschluss des Albums, "There's A World", wurde von Neil Young geschrieben. Während "The Ascension", das von der New York Times als "ein Schrei der Verzweiflung und ein Gebet um Erlösung" gelobt wurde, eine kunstvolle, aber dringliche Elektronik verwendet, um sich dem Moment zu nähern, beginnt "Javelin" wie ein Selbstporträt, detailliert und doch schlicht. Dies ist Stevens' intimstes Werk, das an "Seven Swans" oder "Carrie & Lowell" erinnert und den Hörer in die Nähe seiner inneren Abrechnung ruft. "Javelin" wird von einem 48-seitigen Booklet mit Kunst und Essays begleitet, die alle von Stevens geschaffen wurden, darunter eine Reihe von akribischen Collagen, zerschnittenen Katalogfantasien, Puff-Paint-Wortwolken und sich wiederholenden Farbfeldern.
