'Hold Sacred' ist für das amerikanisch-britisch-deutsche Trio Esben And The Witch ein mehrfacher Neustart. Die Songs entstanden an einem Rückzugsort bei Rom und sind atmosphärisch, fast spirituell, grüblerisch und sanft, fast Ambient, ohne Live-Schlagzeug, während die Instrumentals aus einfachen, spärlichen Gitarren und Tasten bestehen. Aufgenommen ohne externe Produzenten und Tontechniker ist es eine Reminiszenz an frühe Tage, als E&TW ihre Songs im Schlafzimmer aufnahmen. Nach dem Ausflug zum französischen Metal-Label Season Of Mist mit schweren Post-Punk- und Metal-Texturen erscheint das neue Werk wieder auf dem eigenen Imprint Nostromo Records.

Denmark s forward forward-thinking trio Human Being Human return with a luminous new collaboration featuring acclaimed American saxophonist Chris Cheek. Rooted in lyricism, groove, and connection, Being captures the essence of what it means to create music as a shared act of humanity. Formed by bassist Torben Bjornskov, pianist Esben Tjalve, and drummer Frederik Bülow, Human Being Human have quickly earned a reputation as one of Europe s most distinctive piano trios. Their blend of Nordic lyricism and modern rhythmic vitality has drawn international acclaim for its compositional voice and cohesive ensemble sound. On Being , the trio expand their world through the unmistakable voice of Chris Cheek - a player known for his warm tone and intuitive lyricism, whose credits include work with Paul Motian, Brad Mehldau, and Charlie Haden. A long long-time admirer of Cheek s work and humility, Bjornskov reached out and invited him to Denmark to collaborate with the trio. In the studio, the chemistry was undeniable, as most of the album s tracks were captured in just one or two takes, preserving a sense of immediacy and spontaneity. Reflecting on what it means to be human, our capacity to make decisions and shape the world around us, as well as the damage our species has done to our planet, the quartet channels a spirit of contemplation and rediscovery through elegant, organic compositions. Tracks like Human Rights showcase the group s deft interplay and melodic clarity, while the tender ballad Being highlights Cheek s burnished tone and Tjalve s spacious harmonic sense. On Filia , a duo between bass and saxophone, the music unfolds in weightless dialogue and pure musical empathy. True to the group s name, Being reflects on what it means to live, connect, and create as humans in a complex world. The essence of music is working together, being open, being positive, and wanting to experience new things, things," says Bjornskov. This second SLOWER record "Rage And Ruin" consists of Amy Tung-Barrysmith (Year Of The Cobra) on vocals and bass, Esben Willems (Monolord) on drums and myself Bob Balch (Fu Manchu, Big Scenic Nowhere/Yawning Balch) on guitar. When we started this album the original intention was to cover SLAYER's EP "Haunting The Chapel" in its entirety. We started with "Chemical Warfare" then went on to "Haunting The Chapel" but once we got to "Captor Of Sin" we realized that tune didn't want to be slowed down at all. So we started writing our own songs and I'm glad we did. The result is "Rage And Ruin." Two sides with Slayer songs in the middle bookended by SLOWER originals. We are super proud of this record and can't wait for you to hear it!! Mixed and Mastered by the very talented Esben Willems. Recorded at our individual studios.

Bob Balch from FU MANCHU here. The idea for the SLOWER project started around four years ago. I was teaching a student how to play "South Of Heaven" by SLAYER but she was a beginner so we slowed it down. I thought that sounded cool so I tuned down to B standard and tried it. I added some drums and thought "someone in the doom community should do this and name it SLOWER." A few years later I befriended Steven "Thee Slayer Hippy" Hanford, best known for his work as the drummer in the influential Oregon punk band Poison Idea. He was backstage at a FU MANCHU show. Oddly enough I was wearing a POISON IDEA shirt and he told me that my shirt sucks. I asked who he was and why he was in our backstage. He told me and I felt stupid. We started drinking whiskey and talking about music. We stayed in touch over the next year or so and during Covid I told him about my SLOWER idea. He asked me to send him tracks. I waited too long because the day I sent the tracks he passed away. Totally tragic. I'm glad I got to know him even for a few years. He was a monster musician with a giant heart. He will be greatly missed. I shelved the project for a while after that. One day Esben from MONOLORD posted about musical collaborations. I love MONOLORD so I thought what the hell. I sent him some tracks and he killed it on drums. So I sent more. Then more. Shortly after that we started reaching out other musicians to get them involved. That's how we ended up with this lineup. Everyone that contributed completely knocked it out of the park and I can't thank them enough. This project has been a long time coming and I'm beyond stoked on how it turned out. Without all of the players involved, Steven Hanford and my baritone Reverend guitar it wouldn't have happened. Thanks to everyone involved and I hope you dig it! I'm a giant SLAYER fan so it's been a treat to dig into these classic songs. Hopefully we can do another record in the near future. Look out for shows because they will happen! Esben Willems - When Bob first approached me with the idea and I heard his scratch guitars, my first thought was "This is genius". Those iconic tracks we all know by heart suddenly unveiled an unexpected dimension. I'm really proud of how this turned out. Peder Bergstrand - "This might be blasphemous considering the circumstances, but when Bob reached out and asked if I'd want to play bass on sludged-out Slayer covers, I had to admit some of these tracks were brand new to me. That made the experience even more special though, hearing and playing on the Slower version first, and then comparing to the original. Bob has really transformed these songs into something totally their own, and on a personal level I feel the rest of the band's insane performances pushed me to my most inspired playing to date. So incredibly stoked for people to hear this album."

Die dunklen und dennoch betörenden Bilder, die DARKHER alias Jayn Maiven mit ihrem schwerelosen Gesang, Gitarren und Streichern akustisch malt, beschwören cineastisch schillernde Szenen herauf, in denen Schönheit in der Dunkelheit liegt oder es zugleich vielleicht genau andersherum ist. Mit ihrem zweiten Album "The Buried Storm" gelingt es der Musikerin, Komponistin, Texterin und Produzentin ihre geliebte alchemistische Musikformel noch zu verbessern, die sie auf DARKHERs Debütalbum "Realms" aus dem Jahr 2016 fest etablieren konnte. DARKHER wurden 2012 als Soloprojekt der nordenglischen Sängerin und Gitarristin Jayn Maiven ins Leben gerufen. Der düster-melancholische, aber auch massive Sound auf ihrer selbstbetitelten Debüt-EP "Darkher" (2013) sorgte in Kombination mit der markanten Stimme der schüchternen präraffaelitischen Schönheit vor allem in der Doom-Szene für Aufsehen und führte dazu, dass bereits die folgende EP "The Kingdom Field" (2014) via Prophecy Productions erschien. Sogar ohne ein fertiges Album in der Tasche wurden DARKHER zu renommierten Festivals wie dem Roadburn in Tilburg, Niederlande, und dem Prophecy Fest in der Höhle von Balve eingeladen. Im Jahr 2016 erschien das Debütalbum "Realms", das von Fans und Kritikern gleichermaßen gelobt wurde. Die Musikpresse verglich DARKHERs Musik mit einer Vielzahl von höchst individuellen Acts wie CHELSEA WOLFE, ESBEN AND THE WITCH, SÓLSTAFIR, LOREENA MCKENNITT und PORTISHEAD. In den Achtzigern und vor der Auflösung 1989 veröffentlichte Metal Cross zwei Demobänder: „Metal Cross“ und Demo 2 „M.A.D.H.O.U.S.E.“ Die Band trug auch zu zwei Compilation-Alben bei. Die Band spielte Konzerte in ganz Dänemark und teilte Szenen mit anderen großen dänischen Metalbands wie Artillery und Invocater. Metal Cross spielten das letzte Konzert der Band in der Heimatstadt Randers am 16. Dezember 1989 – kurz nach der Auflösung der Band.
Im Jahr 2009 wurde eines der Bandmitglieder von der Plattenfirma Horror Records kontaktiert und gefragt, ob die Band der Veröffentlichung der beiden Demobänder der Band in einem Vinylformat zustimmen würde. Nach langem Versuch, das Material aus der alten Zeit wiederzubekommen, wurde eine Vereinbarung getroffen, die Songs von den beiden alten Bändern zu veröffentlichen. Außerdem wurde entschieden, dass auch
die Aufzeichnung des allerletzten Metal Cross-Konzerts verwendet werden kann. 2014 erschien das Doppel-Vinyl-Album „Metal Cross“. Eine LP
mit Demoaufnahmen und die andere mit dem Konzert von 1989. Außerdem wurde eine 7“ Bonus-Single mit zwei Live-Songs von einem anderen
Konzert veröffentlicht.
Nach der Veröffentlichung wurde Metal Cross überredet, 2014 einen einzigen Gig beim Metal Magic Festival zu spielen. Vor dem Festivalauftritt
spielte die Band einen Warm-Up-Gig für Artillery. Nach 26 Jahren standen Artillery und Metal Cross noch einmal auf derselben Bühne! Die beiden
Jobs haben alle Erwartungen übertroffen und Metal Cross ist wieder voll im Einsatz und hat mehrere Festivalgigs in Dänemark gespielt und immer
mit großartigem Feedback vom Publikum.
2019 verließ der ehemalige Sänger Henrik „Faxe“ die Band und Esben Fosgerau Juhl übernahm seinen Platz und ging direkt ins Studio. Metal Cross
haben seitdem in den letzten Jahren neues Material produziert und aufgenommen und sind nun bereit, das lange Warten auf ein erstes Album
mit „Soul Ripper“ zu beenden. Metal Cross Ambitionen sind nicht zu verkennen. Sie werden alle kleinen Underground-Bühnen betreten, zu den
größeren Festivals und streben auch eine Europa-Tournee an.

Out of the gate, MONOLORD kick-off a wild ride with the soaring, fist-raising opener “The Weary” and its insanely catchy melodies. Elsewhere, the stop/start switch between sweetness and abrasiveness of “To Each Their Own” showcases a new element to the band’s repertoire.
