To those who embraced 2000’s Nixon—Lambchop’s fifth album, whose luscious country soul grooves provided the sprawling Nashville collective with a significant British breakthrough that even found them selling out London’s 2,500-capacity Royal Festival Hall—the deceptively gentle Is a Woman, delivered two years later, administered a quiet but compelling shock. Gone almost entirely was frontman Kurt Wagner’s euphoric, Curtis Mayfield-esque falsetto, replaced by a tranquil, contemplative vocal style; and instead of the joyfully warm brass arrangements that had encouraged Zero 7 to remix “Up With People,” one of Nixon’s standouts, pianist Tony Crow now took center stage, teasing out gentle, ingenious melodies. The contrast was acute.

To discover the true spirit of Is a Woman, however, one need only listen to the remarkable “My Blue Wave,” one of the band’s finest recordings to date. Here, Wagner depicts a world of helpless tragedy in which comfort can nonetheless be found in the smallest of gestures, as he journeys from the contented sight of his pets—“You lay around the house… Just bones and squirrels inside your head”—to recollections of a devastating phone call from friend and bandmate William Tyler: “And William called and tried to tell me /

Teno Afrika's 2020 debut "Amapiano Selections" drew an international wave of support sparked by the producer's deftly minimal take on the emergent style. The photo suggests something candid but also hidden, graceful but also fractured a fitting portrait for an artist who has established a career by vacillating between shrouding herself in mystery and exposing her wounds to the world. The first peek behind the curtain came with her Sargent House debut Some Heavy Ocean, where layers of distortion were excised in favor of acoustic guitar and Rundle’s beguiling vocals. There was a distinct difference by the time Rundle released Marked For Death, a stark and deeply personal meditation on mortality and self-destructive behavior. Her entire musical trajectory from the cinematic instrumentals of Red Sparowes to the lush haze of Marriages and onward through her solo career seems like a gradual disclosure of intimate secrets. With On Dark Horses, Rundle doesn’t shy away from uncomfortable realities or retreat into a private world, but it does capture an artist who has survived their personal nadir and come out stronger on the other side. Taking the full arrangements of Marked For Death on the road demanded a backing band, which Rundle pieced together from tour companions first Dylan Nadon from Wovenhand and Git Some and later Evan Patterson and Todd Cook from Jaye Jayle. Rundle’s budding romance with Patterson prompted a move to Louisville, Kentucky, which not only amplified the equestrian themes of the record but also yielded a new writing process. “This the first time I haven’t played all the guitars on my own record,” Rundle says of Patterson’s contributions to the writing process. “It was stressful letting go but it was also rewarding.” The collaboration worked both ways, with Rundle contributing to Jaye Jayle’s No Trails and Other Unholy Paths. That album’s “Marry Us” mirrors On Dark Horses’ “Light Song”, with the union of Rundle’s siren vocals and Patterson’s poised baritone conjuring a dizzying and feverish update on the duets of Johnny Cash and June Carter. The eight tracks of On Dark Horses capture the evolution of Rundle as an artist, with vestigial traces of the savvy guitar work of Electric Guitar: One, the siren song beauty of Some Heavy Ocean, and the amplified urgency of Marked For Death all factoring into the album’s rich tapestry. Rundle arrives at the end of the album with an ode to a traumatized and heartbroken friend on the grand and triumphant “You Don’t Have To Cry”. After laboring over the majority of the material for the album, she wrote the finale in one sitting, describing its easy birth as a gift from the gods. The name may define the furtive action of search engines, but it says plenty about the music made by this trio, whose members reside in New Haven, Connecticut. Stefan Christensen, Ian McColm, and Dave Shapiro make music so weighty that it generates its own gravity, and yet transparent enough to see straight through to its center. They have arrived at a sound located within a matrix of possibilities suggested by their many shared and separate ventures. It is the sonic orb around which Christensen's post-Xpressway analog alchemy; Shapiro's expositions of acoustic guitar expressivity under the name Alexander and as an accompanist for Kath Bloom, McColm's generation of pulsing freedom as the drummer for Heart of the Ghost and diverse improvisational ensembles, Shapiro and Christensen's unification of historically sound psychedelic practices from either side of the Pacific Ocean as part of Headroom, and McColm and Shapiro's explorations of electric guitar turbulence in Nagual all turn. If you were to search for Center's generative root, you'd find it in Nagual. Christensen first joined the duo in 2016, first as a deputy, and ultimately a full member. Their improvisations acquired a quieter, more spacious character. This transformation necessitated a new name, and they have been working towards completing this LP ever since. While all of the music on Over The Stations originated spontaneously, it has been subjected to centrifugal forces of evaluation and collective debate in order to distill the trio's essence. A job that very well summarizes the more than 20 years of uninterrupted career. After the compilation album ́Ghost River ́ (2015) and having finished the European tour in September of the same year, the drummer changed, the long-lived founder Aldo Benincasa left and Nes entered, who had already replaced him on a couple of occasions. In March 2017 they embark on a trip to El Médano a mountain refuge that is on the border between Chile and Argentina, and in there for several days they shaped the songs that gave life to this album. Then, in 2018, Jack Endino, an old acquaintance of the group, travels from Seattle to Santiago to record 10 songs with different nuances and colors, lyrics in English and Spanish, radio cuts and long durations, rock, groovy and power ballads, at Estudios Lautaro. The album has songs like ‘America’ and ‘Ex-Pilot’ an opening and closing of almost 10 minutes in a cadenced and hypnotic groovy march, spatial and psychedelic in the purest style of The Verve's A Northern Soul album. While ‘Space Trees’ and ‘10.000 Años’ are short, powerful, fast and acid songs with the grunge and alternative rock stamp that sounded in the 90's, nothing to envy to Sundial and Swervedriver. There is room for Manchester-reggae moments in ‘New Berlin’, an instrumental dance song that was born in that city thanks to the collaboration with Andrés Bucci and ‘Listen To The Lion’, a trippy and deep Dub-Reggae cut. R&B ballads have always been part of the group's work and on this album they stand out with ‘Generation’, the title that gives the album its name, with a sound reminiscent of Keith Richards solo songs and the emotional nirvana-esque ‘Far Along The Way’. The mix was carried out in 2019 between Seattle and Santiago de Chile, during upheaval and social protests as a result of the October outbreak and was mastered in 2020 at the Metropolis studios in the U.K. by Tony Cousins, an engineer who had already worked with The Verve and The Stone Roses, influences recognized by The Ganjas. Originally recorded as part of a 3 hours session this solo tour-de force expresses the true essence of a genius. A multifaceted, kaleidoscopic journey through a myriad of melodic, rhythmic, fretted and bowed lines. In other words: a true master class and a seminal statement from one of the greatest figures in creative music!

During his long and fruitful career, multifaceted singer-songwriter Don Covay recorded in a variety of styles, including gospel, doo-wop, soul, rock, and blues, and his enviable skills as a songwriter were responsible for the likes of Chubby Checker’s ‘Pony Time,’ as well as Aretha Franklin’s ‘See Saw’ and ‘Chain Of Fools.’ Following his departure from Atlantic, Different Strokes For Different Folks was cut for the small Janus label at the esteemed Swampers HQ in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, the resultant groove irresistibly mixing funk, soul, gospel, and rock, all the while working in plenty of Covay’s individual humour.

'Debes Llorar' is the second of two super limited 7"s being dropped by Dez Andres on the fledgling Future Rootz label this month. Like the other one, this 45 pulls out plenty of the Cuban influences Dez is known for. A-side 'Debes Llorar' is all life-affirming chords that fans of his classic 'New 4 U' will recognise, but stitched over ticking and raw drum beats with a Latin shuffle and Spanish vocals. 'Aqui Estamos' takes things down a notch with a more sunset sound, hip-hop flecked deep house beats and seductive vocal sounds next to gorgeous little acoustic guitar riffs.

Kebu’s debut album “To Jupiter and Back” is celebrating its
10 year anniversary this year, and is finally getting its long
awaited release on vinyl. 90 million views later Kebu has
become a big YouTube phenomenon and a household name
among synthesizer enthusiasts. The album was a tribute
to Kebu’s original influences for his music, namely Jean
Michel Jarre, Vangelis and Mike Oldfield. The album contains
eleven tracks, of which “Le Carnaval des Étoiles”, “Pulsar”
and the title track are among Kebu’s most popular songs. It
established his trademark sound, being produced using only
analog synthesizers and mixed with an analog mixer. The
vinyl edition comes on a 180 g vinyl in a gatefold sleeve, and
contains a poster of the original cover art, painted by Kebu’s
wife Heidi Väisänen.

Yes or No showcases Loose Lips legend Lyric L contemplating the uncertainty of love over a swinging mid-tempo jazz funk boogie groove propelled by tight drums and Hammond chords, closing with a flying trumpet solo from Copus, weaving around Balfour's nimble keys.

Wealth, featuring singer/songwriter Belle Humble, displays incredible depth and restraint. Humble delivers the enticing vocal with ease, as it slides over the intricate webs of jazz fusion and electronics.

Mogul is arguably Running Colours' curveball. An eastern-inspired whirlwind of all manner of synths and twisting drums which constantly morph throughout. Guitars and trumpets take turns to solo on a track that feels like a series of questions that we never quite get answers to.

Balfour's ability to merge free wheeling jazz and fusion with timeless electronic production and soulful compositions is also apparent on instrumental pieces such as Reflector 28. Here, we find the musicians upbeat, uplifting, progressive and playful, showcasing the keys whilst the bass underpins the groove.

South Of The Sun is Running Colours' laid-back moment with Roy Ayers-type vibrations as bass and drums sit in the pocket (at least to begin with), whilst a Rhodes weaves its magic. Like many of the album's tracks we take a few twists and turns before returning to our main feel-good motif.

Hamish's long awaited debut is sure to exceed the expectations of those who know him already, whilst introducing a whole new audience to his wealth of talent and originality.

For the second chapter in Vala series two Swedish natives have been invited to give their brumal take on the label’s output. On the A-side Härdstedt leaves no much to question with a subtly psychedelic roller “Esrange” whereas Arkajo provides a groovy remix of that particular track with a spice of familiar drum programming trickery. Both staying legitimately true to their own recognizable sound. On the B-side Kaspiann continues from where Vala 1 was left to and provides two wintry sea inspired tracks to leave room for the next chapter in series of unfolding surprises.

While his formative years were spent listening to everything from Yes to Photek, Scott Hansen didn't get his hands on an actual guitar or drum machine until he left his native Sacramento for San Francisco in 1995. "Encountering this whole new world at 20 years old was a profound experience," says Hansen, better known by his musical pseudonym Tycho and as the graphic artist ISO50. "At the time, I was just learning the processes of design and music; both felt very similar, and have flowed back and forth for me ever since."As seamless as his two creative outlets have been, nearly a decade passed before the release of Hansen's first proper Tycho LP, Sunrise Projector (later expanded and reissued under the title Past Is Prologue). And while three striking singles have emerged since then, the sum of all those sepia-toned parts is nowhere near the double-exposed soundscapes of Dive. The product of a prolonged break from IS050's design work and blog, it pays tribute to Tycho's prismatic past (the dense, guitar-guided turning points of "Daydream" and "Adrift") but spends most of its time pointing to the project's not-so-distant future.That can mean any number of things, really, from the halcyon hooks and hopeful horizons of "A Walk" to the expansive, wildly expressive tone poetry of the title track, an eight-minute epic that unfolds like a compressed concept album. Or at the very least, a restless vision of prog-rock - one that's been coated in neon colors and filtered through a thick piece of blotter paper. And then there's "Elegy," a spare curtain closer that pairs a vulnerable crescendo with a fitting bridge to future works.And with that, Dive establishes its position as the most diverse musical statement of Hansen's multi-medium career; the point where his skills as a performer finally catch up with his vaporized vision of a world that doesn't belong to any particular time or place."Nostalgia is a common thread in my work," says Hansen, "but this album wasn't driven by that idea. I see these songs as artifacts from a future which might have more in common with our past than our present."

Takuya Kuroda is a highly respected trumpeter and arranger born in Kobe, Japan and based in New York City. 'Midnight Crisp' is Takuya's seventh studio album, entirely self-produced and following 2020's highly acclaimed 'Fly Moon Die Soon', also released on UK label First Word (winner of the Worldwide Award's Label of the Year in 2019). Consisting of six new tracks, this once again sees Takuya displaying his unique hybrid sound, blending soulful jazz, funk, post-bop, fusion and hip hop.

After following the footsteps of his trombonist brother playing in big bands, he relocated to New York to study jazz & contemporary music at The New School in Union Square; a course he graduated from in the mid-noughties. It was here that Takuya met vocalist José James, with whom he worked on the 'Blackmagic' and 'No Beginning No End' projects.

Following graduation, Takuya established himself further in the NYC jazz scene, performing with the likes of Akoya Afrobeat and in recent years with DJ Premier's BADDER band. Premier said "The BADDER Band project was put together by my manager, and an agent I've known since the beginning of my Gang Starr career. He said, 'What if you put a band together that revolved around a trumpet player from Japan named Takuya Kuroda? He's got a hip-hop perspective and respect in the jazz field…"

Takuya Kuroda is already incredibly prolific, releasing six albums in the past decade and fortifying a solid reputation in the global jazz scene. 2011 saw the release of Takuya's independently-produced debut album, 'Edge', followed by 'Bitter and High' the following year and 'Six Aces' on P-Vine in 2013. Takuya was signed to the legendary Blue Note Records in 2014 for his album 'Rising Son', as well as appearing on their 2019 cover versions project, 'Blue Note Voyage'. He released his 5th album 'Zigzagger' on Concord in 2016, which also featured Antibalas on a reimagining of the Donald Byrd classic 'Think Twice'.

His last album was the afore-mentioned 'Fly Moon Die Soon' on First Word, which received plays and support from the likes of Pitchfork, Earmilk, Bandcamp Weekly, Worldwide FM, All About Jazz, Apple Music, Tidal, Stereogum, Treble, Brooklyn Vegan, FIP (France), Tony Minvielle, Jazz FM, Huey Morgan (BBC 6 Music), BBC Radio 3, Novena Carmel, KCRW and tons more DJs, tastemakers, selectors, radio stations, bloggers & magazines.

The new project 'Midnight Crisp' will be released October 21st 2022 on vinyl, CD and digital, worldwide via First Word Records.

Dizonord met Jean-Jacques Birgé from Un Drame Musical Instantané and GRRR label before Dizonord was created. Jean-Jacques is still a very active musician working for exhibitions sound designs and always fond of new technologies projects. These LPs are a paradise for samplers and Thurston Moore has always been a huge fan of Birgé who could be found on the famous NWW list !

Formed in 1980 by guitar prodigy Leonardo Vela Rodriguez, Sonido Verde de Moyobamba created some of the hardest, craziest Cumbia to emerge from the Peruvian jungle. With distorted, surf-addled guitar facing off against lysergic organ and hyperactive tropical rhythms, Sonido Verde conjured the organic sound of the dense forests surrounding their hometown while riding their dance-party grooves to dizzying psychedelic peaks.

Compiled by Analog Africa, Sonido Verde de Moyobamba presents eight ultra-rare tracks of guitar and organ madness drawn from the band’s five albums recorded for Discos Universal between 1981 and 1987. Pressed on Sun Yellow colored vinyl, housed in a screen-printed jacket and strictly limited to 2000 copies, Sonido Verde is a definitive trip into the heart of the jungle.

Das Album, das die US-Top-10-Singles "Nowhere to Run" und "Sane" enthält, wurde erneut von Johnny Andrews produziert. Es wird Blut geben! Im Jahr 2018 kamen Overdrivers mit ihrem zweiten Album wieder in die Wehen und brachten das schlicht betitelte She's On Her Period zur Welt! Sich treu bleiben und von vorne anfangen: Das Quartett bietet wieder das, was es am besten kann, australischen Rock in der puren Tradition von AC/DC, Airbourne und Rose Tattoo. Aufgenommen unter der Aufsicht von Bertrand Charlet, haben Overdrivers es sich zur Aufgabe gemacht, ihre Eierstöcke zur Explosion zu bringen. Feingeister, verschwindet! Mit Titeln wie dem gleichnamigen She's On Her Period oder The Best Blowjob In History ist die Band nicht besonders subtil. Keine Sorge, Overdrivers interessieren sich nicht nur dafür, was unter der Gürtellinie passiert, sondern auch dafür, was oben passiert. Mit diesem zweiten Opus von wütendem Rock'N'Roll wird die Nanny ihre Menopause vergessen.

"Escape" (1981) war einer der erfolgreichsten Longplayer der aus San Francisco stammenden Supergroup Journey. Der wesentlich von Sänger Steve Perry, Keyboarder Jonathan Cain und Gitarrero Neal Schon getragene zeitlose Sound katapultierte die ausgekoppelten Singles "Open Arms", "Who's Crying Now" und "Don't Stop Believing" bis in die Top Ten der US-Charts. Produziert wurde die Scheibe übrigens von Kevin Elson, der fünf Jahre später Europe mit ihrem Megahit "The Final Countdown" zu Welthit-Ehren führte.

Victoria Bergsman hatte es nicht geplant "Another Year" zu machen. Die Taken By Trees-Sängerin war mit der Arbeit an ihrem eigenen Material beschäftigt, als der Vorschlag aufkam, Coverversionen von Songs des Zombies-Frontmanns Colin Blunstone aufzunehmen. Das Projekt sollte den 50. Jahrestag seines ersten Soloalbums "One Year", eines häufig unterschätzten Klassikers, feiern. Am Ende wurde es einer emotionalen Hommage an einen der Lieblingssänger von Bergsman. Victoria Bergsman ist es nicht fremd, Coversongs aufzunehmen. Ihre einzigartige, bezaubernde Version von Guns N" Roses "Sweet Child O" Mine" wurde 2009 sogar zum Soundtrack der John Lewis-Weihnachtswerbung. Ihre Stimme war schon immer eine der großen im Indie-Pop-Genre. Viele kennen ihren Gesang von Peter, Bjorn and Johns Klassiker "Young Folks" oder als Sängerin der schwedischen Band The Concretes. 2008 begann sie eine Solokarriere unter dem Namen Taken By Trees. Ihre Liebe zu Blunstone ist noch älter. Als sie in den späten 1990er Jahren mit ihren Concretes-Bandkollegen durch die Plattenläden stöberte, entdeckte Bergsman Colin Blunstone erstmals als Künstler. Seitdem hat er ihre Musik beeinflusst und ist seit langem ein fester Bestandteil ihrer privaten Plattensammlung.

NOTHING MORE kehren mit ihrem langerwarteten siebten Studioalbum SPIRITS zurück, das am 14. Oktober erscheinen wird. SPIRITS enthält 13 Songs, die musikalisch zu den bis dato fokussiertesten, abenteuerlichsten und intensivsten Werken der Band zählen, wobei introspektive, philosophische Texte mit ungeschminkten, wuchtigen Hymnen vereint werden. Hierzu zählen die bereits erschienenen Auskopplungen "TURN IT UP LIKE", sowie die neue Single "TIRED OF WINNING", die sich aktuell in den Top 10 der Billboard Active Rock Charts befindet. Seit ihrem Debüt im Jahr 2003 haben NOTHING MORE mit den beiden #1-Singles "This is the Time (Ballast)" und "Go To War" Rock-Radio-Chartgeschichte geschrieben und haben mittlerweile bereits sieben Active Rock Radio Top-10-Singles in ihrem Repertoire. und lustiger Songs für starke Kinder. Groß, grau, gutgelaunt, mit dickem Bauch und ordentlich was in der
Birne stellt DIKKA sich dabei nicht auf die Seite der Eltern, sondern nimmt die kleinen Hörer an die Hand
und geht gemeinsam mit ihnen mal den wirklich wichtigen Fragen des Lebens nach
Warum werden irgendwann selbst der leckerste Oma-Kuchen, die knusprigen Pommes und der Ketchup zu
Kakka? Weshalb denken Mama und Papa eigentlich, dass sie alles besser wissen und man immer Hilfe
braucht, wenn man es doch eigentlich längst alleine kann? Wieso immer rosa für Mädchen und blau für

Salat landen. Auf dem Flohmarkt ein paar Flöhe kaufen und rückwärts zum Späti an die Ecke laufen, um
dort ein extragroßes Eis zu schlecken. Mit dem Rad zu entspannten Beats durch den Kiez rollen, dass es
jeder sieht – mit schimmerndem Schutzblech, klingelnder Klingel und vor allem mit Helm, denn der schützt
schließlich die Melone. Klare Sache!

Die "Blue Record" EP enthält 5 Songs: die beeindruckenden Akustikversionen von drei Songs des 2013er Albums ,II" sowie zwei fantastische Coverversionen, "Swing Lo Magellan" (DIRTY PROJECTORS) und "Puttin It Down" (BECK). "Ich habe erst im letzten Jahr damit angefangen, Akustikgitarre zu spielen. Die Idee, dass eine Gitarre Sound in Elektrizität übersetzt und es dann richtig laut wird, mochte ich schon immer. Ich dachte, dass die Akustikgitarre vielleicht ein bisschen zu niedlich für mich ist. Doch nachdem uns einige Gelegenheiten geboten wurden, Akustiksets zu spielen, um die neue Platte zu promoten, habe ich beschlossen, das Ganze als Herausforderung zu betrachten und zu versuchen, akustisch zu spielen und dabei nicht langweilig zu klingen. Schließlich fand ich es schon immer toll, wie Arthur Lee akustisch spielt und fragte mich, ob ich das wohl überzeugend hinbekommen könnte. So wurde ich praktisch durch ein paar Radiosessions dazu gezwungen, mir die Akustikgitarre anzueignen und beschloss, ein paar Songs akustisch aufzunehmen und zu veröffentlichen, weil den Leuten das anscheinend gefiel. I'd always preferred the idea that the guitar converts a sound into voltage and then becomes really loud. I thought the acoustic guitar was a little bit too twee for me or something. But after being offered some opportunities to play various acoustic sessions to promote the new record, in situations where it wasn't possible to record the whole band, I decided to treat it like a challenge to try and play acoustic and not have it be lame. After all I was really into Arthur Lee's ability with an acoustic and started wondering if I could make it sound convincing. Anyway, after being somewhat forced to develop some skill on the acoustic through these various radio sessions and things like that I decided to record some songs acoustically and release them since people seemed to be liking the way I was doing it.
