If there's one thing I'm good at it's finding records. It doesn't matter where in the world I am, I find records, the best records, the rarest records. And always in Mint condition. I have a knack for it. One place I like to hunt for records is South of the Border, in Mexico. You can find great records there, way out in those pequeños pueblos del desierto. Another great thing you can find is cactus.
Mexico is famous for cactus. You got your Ariocarpus, your Turbinicarpus, your Mammillaria. You got cactus of all kinds, big and small. Little ones like Eplithelantha, psychedelic ones like the peyote Lophophora, and rare ones like Aztekium. But my favourite is Mammillaria humboldtii. Now this one is very hard to find. The villagers over in Hidalgo know where it is, and they go high up in the mountains to look for it.

Now these guys, they take their time. But when they come down from those mountains, they bring back the most beautiful specimens. I really mean it, they're beautiful. They're like clumps of fluffy white golf balls, and they have these cute little pink flowers. Beautiful I tell ya. I pay precio alto for a good specimen of Mammillaria humboldtii.

Ranging from the playful (Sassyhiya, Gay Skeleton Club) to the heartbreaking (Caleb Nichols, Jetstream Pony) to the enigmatic (Railcard, Oh Hippo) to the satiric (The Magnetic Fields, Brian Bilston and The Catenary Wires), there's more diversity on this album than you can shake a stick at. Or throw a bone at. The LP comes with a full colour insert and the CD comes with a booklet featuring artwork by Elodie Ginsbourg. Musicians spend a lot of time working at home, with their pets for company. The pets sit around, happy in their own worlds, sublimely indifferent to their humans' endeavours. As familiar as family members, but as unknowable as aliens, pets are the perfect muse. They can be treated as objects of adoration - `Rufus' by Tugboat Captain is an expression of pure joy - or they can be treated as metaphors. More reliable than lovers but less dangerous than heroin, pets are a great vehicle for singing obliquely about something else. Swansea Sound's `I Don't Like Men In Uniform' is about an ageing, irascible terrier, but it's also about men striving to maintain their potency as territorial aggressors. The Magnetic Fields' `Fido, Your Leash Is too Long' is a libidinous and unreliable partner, as well as a dog that likes sniffing other dogs' private parts. For the most part, animals come off better than humans on this album. In `Kings Of The Animal Kingdom', The Burning Hell dramatise our indulgent love of pets in order to expose our cruelty to other human beings. In `Bo's New Haircut', The Cords express the injustice and unfairness of an innocent animal having to submit to human demands. In `Crayon Potato' by Sassyhiya, the magnificent Crayon contemptuously rejects the gifts offered by her besotted human owners. In `Lola', the opening track, Lande Hekt tries to put this enigmatic human-animal relationship into words. And concludes that however much we love our animals, and no matter how much we manage to communicate with them, we can never really know them. A melancholy conclusion maybe, but the music - as with all the songs on this album - is expressive of the wonderment and the joy that comes from sharing your life with a member of another species. The tracks by Brian Bilston and The Catenary Wires, Jetstream Pony and Railcard are previously unreleased. These three bands are also playing a launch show at The Water Rats, London, on 9th July 2026.

‘Mala Fama is a Kichwa sound-artist from Ibarra, Ecuador, inhabiting — and creating — multiple worlds at once, while being rooted in Indigenous pride and power. Jichushka is a Kichwa word meaning lonely, or abandoned. Here, grief is re-cast as a pathway to liberation.
‘The album was recorded between 2016-2022. Home studio sessions facilitated close collaboration with a network of artists drawn from Andean musical lineages such as marimba, vallenato, and cumbia — including Afro-Ecuadorian group Duo Anjoa, vocalist Catalina Ortiz from coastal Esmeraldas, Ibarra-based multi-instrumentalist Luis Lema, and Quixosis. The album builds on peaceful ambient compositions as much as heavy sequencing, inviting melancholic remembrances of times and spaces that no longer exist.’

This is PEASANTS REVOLT, the latest album from trans folksinger Creekbed Carter Hogan. Playing the part of court jester in the halls of a dying empire, Hogan croons, hollers, and grins in the face of despair as we feast together on one last humble supper before everything falls apart.

A rollicking medieval-Americana manuscript, Hogan’s new work anchors itself in transitions. PEASANTS REVOLT was written living and moving between the North and the South; sung by a body both pre- and post-trans affirming healthcare; and recorded during a time of genocide, federal occupation, and workers’ uprisings. Decorating its margins are influences spanning time and medium. Here, 14th century king-killer ballads sit next to Appalachian strike songs. Labor and union songs find kinship with Ethiopian jazz records. Hogan’s work echoes with historical struggle, too, from the Haitian Revolution to the struggle for trans rights to the surreal futurism of Rio Grande Valley writer Fernando A. Flores. This album takes the entwinement of the personal and the political seriously, a path often walked by everyone from Hazel Dickens and John Prine to ANOHNI. The 10 tracks of PEASANTS REVOLT are themselves endlessly transitioning, hinging on mid-song shifts and building into wildfires that crackle and sputter with the courage of momentum and catchy hooks. By centering this work so deeply in the tumult of change, Hogan illuminates all of capitalism’s attempts to isolate us — and the power that we regain when we refuse to face our lives and our selves alone.

Hailed as a masterpiece of it’s genre, and considered by many as ground zero for Deathrock, Only Theatre of Pain is a seminal work of unholy power and pitch black emotion. Whilst this record may have it’s roots in punk - the origins of this true original version of Christian Death took place in Southern California during the early 80’s hardcore explosion - it cannot be overstated how important this record was in shaping the subsequent landscape. Emerging like an adrenaline shot into the heart of darkness, this unrestrained and mysterious recording still remains unclassifiable.

Featuring the late visionary Rozz Williams (then only in his teens) alongside punk luminary Rikk Agnew (guiding light in the Adolescents), James McGearty and George Belanger, Only Theatre of Pain’s musical exploration is adorned with psychosexual lyricism and an innate struggle with faith. Rozz’s vocals creep and possess, demonic and haunting, against the captivating, unmistakable guitar work of trailblazer Agnew. It’s a performance, but also a truth, perhaps Only Theatre of Pain is an art show, as much as it is an era defining record.
Aside from their spellbinding sound, it may have also been the lore of Christian Death that set them apart from other LA goth bands of the time. A near-nude Rozz Williams nailed to a cross at the Whiskey a Go Go may have played a part, but what it is apparent when you listen to the unhallowed musical stages on Only Theatre Of Pain is a depth of vision and orchestration that goes beyond the simple stance of brooding many of their contemporaries emulated, delving into the realms of pure unadulterated catharsis. The result is an eradefining statement that remains as unsettling, innovative, and resonant today as it was over four decades ago.

Only Theatre Of Pain is presented here in a new remastered deluxe pressing with a second disk containing early demo’s and rare material, further demonstrating why Christian Death stood alone in their sound and approach. This journey of religious depravity, recorded by the legendary producer Thom Wilson in a matter of days, harnesses the huge concepts of band projecting older than their years. Ahead of the curve in sonic artistry and visual aesthetics, this slab of sacrilegious American punk is nothing short of essential listening for the gothic inclined. Warrant was formed in 1984 in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, and experienced success from 1989 to 1996 with five albums reaching international sales of over 10 million. The band first came into the national spotlight with their double platinum debut album Dirty Rotten Filthy Stinking Rich (1989) and one of its singles, "Heaven", which reached No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100. The band's success continued in the early 1990s with the double platinum album Cherry Pie (1990), which provided the hit song of the same name. In 1992, Warrant released their third album the critically acclaimed Dog Eat Dog. The record achieved only moderate commercial success compared with the first two albums, but still sold over 500,000 copies reaching Gold status and charting at No. 25 on the US Billboard charts. The band's fourth album Ultraphobic (produced by a returning Beau Hill) was released in March 1995 and, featured the singles "Family Picnic", " Followed" and the ballad "Stronger Now". Now to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of their fifth album which was released in October of 1996 and the last with Jani Lane. The EP opens with On His Way, a percussion-heavy deep roller built for maximum dancefloor impact. Anchored by fat, heavyweight production and a massive low-end presence, the track surges forward with relentless energy. An incredible gospel vocal cuts through the mix, elevating the groove into something transcendent - equal parts spiritual and physical. On It’s Not That Easy, Gledd leans further into his gospel house influences. Wie man es vermeidet, an den meisten Tagen zu viel Zeit vor ihnen zu verbringen. Eine Bestandsaufnahme des echten, physischen Selbst ist harte Arbeit, Arbeit, gegen die ich nicht gänzlich etwas einzuwenden habe, die für mich aber sofort gefährlicher wurde, als ich mit ansehen musste, welchen sehr realen Tribut Zeit, moderne Ängste, Isolation und Langeweile von mir forderten. Es schien einfacher, mich in eine nicht allzu ferne glorreiche Vergangenheit zu versetzen, die Erinnerung als Mittel sowohl zur Begeisterung als auch zur Heilung zu nutzen. Aber wo wir gerade von Aufregung sprechen: Ich stolpere gerne auf eine Band zu, die keine Agenda und keinen Zweck hat und deren Sound fast zufällig entdeckt wird. So habe ich Wednesday zum ersten Mal gehört. Die Band kam zu mir und ich weiß nicht mehr, wie oder warum. Sie tauchten einfach auf, als wären wir unser ganzes Leben lang aufeinander zugegangen. I Was Trying To Describe You To Someone prägte meinen Sommer 2020, und in Klang, in Geist, in den zentralen Themen und deren Umsetzung versetzte es mich zurück in eine Zeit vor der heutigen, was ich damals gebraucht hatte. Die Vergangenheit kann sich weniger höllisch anfühlen als die Gegenwart, wenn wir manchmal nicht ganz ehrlich zu uns selbst sind. Da ist dieser Trick der Nostalgie, mit dem ich in meinem eigenen Schreiben viel Zeit verbringe und der mich in meinem eigenen Leben etwas quält. Die sehr reale Vorstellung, dass Nostalgie sowohl ein nützliches Werkzeug als auch eine Waffe ist, wenn sie nicht mit etwas gepaart ist, das einer Art rigoroser Ehrlichkeit nahekommt. Aber wenn ich noch einmal auf all diese Ideen von Nostalgie und unseren alten, kniffligen, vergangenen Ichs zurückkommen darf, die tatsächlich Teil des Backsteinhauses sind, das unser gegenwärtiges Selbst ausmacht, dann hoffe ich, dass du, lieber Hörer, an diesem Album genau den Moment am Anfang von ,The Burned Down Dairy Queen", in dem Karly singt: ,I was hiding in a room in my mind / and I made me take a look at myself." Denn wenn du, so wie ich, Spiegel gemieden hast - sowohl metaphorische als auch echte -, dann wird das Album hier zu einem Leuchtturm, der hell durch die Dunkelheit meiner ansonsten dunklen und leeren Kammern hallt. So viele dieser Songs beschäftigen sich mit der Vergangenheit auf weit weniger romantische Weise, als ich es bisher getan habe, und ich sehnte mich verzweifelt nach der Neuausrichtung, die dieses Album bot. Also, ja, die Songs sind gut. Vielleicht kurbelst du an einem angenehmen Tag auf der richtigen Strecke in der warmen Jahreszeit die Fenster herunter und drehst die Lautstärke auf, wenn ,Birthday Song" richtig laut und zum Mitsingen wird. Vielleicht sitzt du nachts auf einem Dach, näher am Mond als du es auf dem Boden warst, und lässt dich von ,Ghost Of A Dog" durchschütteln und zu einer nächtlichen Erkenntnis treiben, die du in der Stille nicht hättest haben können. Aber selbst über all dem, über all den Freuden und der Gnade, die die Klänge dieses Albums bieten mögen, hoffe und glaube ich auch, dass es jeden, der zuhört, daran erinnern wird, dass wir eine Ansammlung vieler Reflexionen sind. Reissue of the fifth studio album by Canadian technical death metal masters Cryptopsy, originally released in 2005. Notable for bringing back original vocalist Lord Worm and pushing their complex, brutal style with an experimental edge. The title is interpreted by some as implying "Once Was Not Enough", suggesting a continuation of their extreme sound, a concept explored through intricate riffs and intense drumming.

Hailing from Sheffield, MAU MAUS were one of the pioneering hardcore punk bands of the early to mid 80s, releasing a string of classic singles and an album for Pax/Rebellion at the time. They returned reborn in 2021, with new singer Danny, and with 10 songs recorded through lockdown which were released on Boss Tuneage as "The Enemy Within" 12" - the first official MAU MAUS new release in over 30 years! That release mixed 5 brand new songs with 5 re-recordings of classic 80s tracks, and it showed that the 21st century MAU MAUS had not lost any of their energy, bite and anger over the years and subsequently the release sold out within a couple of months and the band went on to show they were blistering live as well across numerous gigs and tours. Now, Boss Tuneage is delighted to announce the long awaited follow up to "The Enemy Within" and the bands full length album "THE BATTLE SCARS OF HUMAN DEBRIS" which features 13 slices of raging hardcore punk which feels as relevant for 2026 as it would have done in 1986!! Media Puzzle is a mysterious figure in Lismore’s nightlife, named after the Irish horse that claimed victory in the 2002 Melbourne Cup (naturally).

Opener Questions About Mindcontrol awakens the discordant synapses, an entanglement of melodies and rhythm with a certain progressive attitude. Home Or In A Dream (Miami Morning Mix) properly ascends with trance-like wonder and ecstatic lucidity, before So Quiet returns to dusk with a tek-no throb and acidic bite. Destination G concludes with a nocturnal shimmer, an unrelenting groove caught in its own hypnosis ‘til the finale.

It includes an insert with liner notes. "Soogie" (1969) was Willie Rodríguez's first album for Mary Lou Records. Mary Lou Records, at that time, was also one of the labels in the right place at the right time, just before Fania smashed almost all the competition. The album is mostly comprised of guaguancós, boleros, and improvised-space-filling descargas (jam sessions). This is remarkable, as it hardly includes boogaloo, which was still prevalent during those years, yet already on the way out. According to Bobby Marín, its musical director "we didn't call it salsa at the time; it had no name. It was mambo or música movida, they used to call it on the radio." The first tune, 'My Dog Soogie,' which provides the title for the recording, is a playful guaracha about a dog The following track is the wildly popular 'La Puerta del Dolor.' 'El Chivo' (the goat) is a spicy guaracha, which changes into a son montuno-guajira. 'Grande' is a guaguancó, followed by 'Los Callos de Dolores,' also a delightful guaguancó. Then comes the ballad 'Porque yo te Amo,' a monster hit of the sixties by popular Argentine singer Sandro. Next we have 'Al Compás del Güiro,' a guaguancó, with the delicious chorus that goes "cómo va, cómo va, cómo va, mi güiro cómo va." 'Paul's Thing' is an instrumental guaguancó, with engrossing sax solos. Finally, we have the smashing, extended descarga 'Salsa con Willie Rodríguez.' We are now happy to reissue this rare and in-demand 1969 salsa gem after decades unavailable!

Based in the north and shaped by its environment, Onségen Ensemble has built a distinctive identity through constant transformation. Rather than a fixed lineup, the band functions as a living ensemble: a stable core surrounded by ever-changing contributors. Each album introduces new voices, instruments and perspectives, allowing the music to evolve freely and remain open to the unexpected. With "A Tale", the band's expression becomes more ethereal and profound than before. While Onségen Ensemble operates within a progressive mindset; they deliberately avoid traditional genre boundaries, creating music that moves forward by absorbing influences intuitively, free from stylistic dogma. As with their previous records, they've always introduced new elements along the way - instruments as well as musicians - and this album is no exception. "The central theme of the album is peace. Under the moniker Trace Mountains, Dave Benton writes music that asks large questions in quietly profound ways. On the project’s earliest release, the 2014 compilation Buttery Sprouts & Other Songs, these thoughts appeared as lo-fi scraps of wit andtenderness. But by the time A Partner to Lean On, Trace Mountains’ debut full-length, arrived in 2018, Benton’s perceptive indie rock had matured into more existential meditations about identity, existence, and finding sense in an increasingly chaotic world.
In the two years since A Partner to Lean On, Benton’s life has undergone several large changes, namely the dissolution of LVL UP, the indie rock quartet he co-founded in college, and a move to Kingston, a small city in New York’s Hudson Valley. Composed during—but not directly inspired by—this transition, Trace Mountains’ second record, Lost in the Country, reflects Benton’s need toreconnect with his inner world.

Prompted by an urge to access a more authentic voice, Lost in the Country finds Benton digging deeper into candid songwriting. “I wanted to open myself up and write lyrics that are a little bit more direct,” he explains. “I write a lot of songs that are about myself and a lot of songs that aren’t, but on this record, the focus is turned inward either way.” The result is Trace Mountains’ strongest and most assured record yet, 10 songs driven by a desire for introspection and self-discovery. The backdrop for this insularity is an expanse of wide blue skies, seas of trees, and winding roads, ideal locales for thoughts to blossom into greater reflections of the outer world. The slow-burning “Absurdity,” which Benton modestly says is about “hiking and standing in the country,” uses the sublimity of the wilderness to comment on technology’s inescapable presence. Similarly, the driving opener “Rock & Roll” transforms the premise of a “simple song about being a rocker” into a stream-of-consciousness, apocalyptic poem about delusions, regrets, and getting lost in your own limited perspective. This self-examination culminates with the record’s ambitious and anthemic title track. Channeling the cosmic sprawl of the War on Drugs or Kurt Vile, Benton recalls a moment of deep loneliness and depression outside a concert venue in the Netherlands, and how an unexpected moment of compassion led to a moment of awakening.
Despite its frequently bucolic setting, Lost in the Country’s underlying current is an urgent commitment to Trace Mountains and “finding a creative process that requires me to be honest with myself.” “I know I sing to forget, I sing to hold my breath, to feel the thumping in my chest,” Benton sings on “Cooper’s Dream.”This line is “rooted in the importance of music in my life, it’s definitely a reflection on that and how I can keep it in my life, because if I’m not careful and I don’t nurture it, I could lose it.” The self-imposed pressure has been empowering for Benton. “I really like having full control in making a record, deciding what songs are going to be on it, as well as shaping the vibe or narrative of the whole thing,” he says. “It brings a peace of mind knowing that I am responsible for just my voice.”

Get In Where You Fit In, was originally released in October of 1993 and would be his fourth album in a row to be certified platinum. Production was handled by Ant Banks and The Dangerous Crew, which featured live instrumentation, incorporated P Funk samples, and G Funk synths. The lead single "I'm a Player" sampled Bootsy Collins' funky bass of "Hollywood Squares" and Quincy Jones' son QDIII produced the epic Bay Area G Funk laden classic track "Just Another Day". And it wouldn't be a Too $hort record without some pimp and sex tales like "Blow Job Betty", "All My Bitches Are Gone" and the upbeat "Gotta Get Some Lovin".
