Born in South Carolina and raised in Harlem, Etta Jones began her career in the mid-1940s, recording for Black and White and RCA, and performing with Earl Hines’ sextet. Further recordings for Decca and King helped solidify her reputation but Prestige truly upgraded her status with the million-selling album Don’t Go To Strangers, the most outstanding of her career. Her expressive voice is never short of excellent here, as heard on Fine And Mellow and an excellent arrangement of I Love Paris, and most especially on the title track, which hit the US top 40.
