Die Grammy-nominierte Band Hiatus Kaiyote veröffentlichen ihr neues Album auf Brainfeeder! Knapp 6 Jahre nach "Choose Your Weapon" (2015) erscheint endlich das brandneue Studioalbum!

Die zweifach Grammy-nominierte Band besteht aus Naomi „Nai Palm“ Saalfield (Gitarre, Gesang), Paul Bender (Bass), Simon Mavin (Keyboards) und Perrin Moss (Schlagzeug). Das neue Album ist der Nachfolger ihres 2015er Albums, „Choose Your Weapon“, das der Rolling Stone als „atemberaubenden Schritt nach oben“ beschrieb und sie von Glastonbury bis zum Fuji Rock führte, vom Roots Picnic bis zur ausverkauften Sydney Opera. Das neue Projekt konnte endlich entstehen, nachdem die Band auf Songs von The Carters (Beyoncé & Jay-Z), Kendrick Lamar, Anderson .Paak, Chance The Rapper oder Drake gesampelt wurde - mit dem Nai Palm aber auch auf seinem Album, „Scorpion“, zusammenarbeitete. Das Ergebnis ist ein Album, das sich, untermalt von Verocais Streichern, in einem Groove entspannt: sonnenbeschienen, erhaben, meisterhaft. Hinter allem steckt Hiatus' gewohnter Sinn für musikalische Abenteuer, ihre Gabe, das Komplexe einfach klingen zu lassen, oder, in ihren eigenen Worten: „Wondercore“. Simons Experiment mit einem ungeraden Rhythmus, der in 5er-Gruppen gepackt ist, wird zu einem kaskadenartigen Jam namens „Rose Water“. Benders und Simons Austausch einzelner Noten, hin und her, um eine Melodie zu bilden, wird zu „All The Words We Don't Say“. Nais frecher Kommentar auf sexbesessene, dreiminütige Pop-Hits wird zu „Chivalry Is Not Dead“, einem Song über die bizarren Paarungsrituale von Leopardenschnecken (sie leuchten fluoreszierend) und Seepferdchen (sie verschränken ihre Schwänze und tanzen). Das Album endet mit dem zarten „Blood And Marrow“, einer Bender-Bassline, zu der Nai und Perrin improvisierten, und die Simon als seinen Lieblingssong anpreist: „Es ist ein klassischer Hiatus-Studio-Song, der eine schöne Erkundung ist und ein Geheimnis bereithält.“

Manche kehren immer wieder in die Vergangenheit zurück um die Erinnerungen und Empfindungen von damals mit dem Hier und Jetzt zu vergleichen, während andere einfach nur stur nach vorne blicken - Lucy Dacus gehörte lange zur ersten Gruppe. Ihr drittes Album "Home Video" basiert auf Erinnerungen ihrer Coming-Of-Age-Jahre in Richmond, Virginia. Viele der Songs beginnen wie Memoiren und alle haben die Passion, den Humor und die Ehrlichkeit von erfrischend autobiographischen Texten. Während einer langen Zeit auf Tour hatte sich Lucy gefreut, endlich wieder Zeit in ihrer Heimatstadt verbringen zu können, nur um dort festzustellen, dass Menschen sie wie ein Zerrbild ihrer selbst betrachteten. So brach sie im August 2019 nach einem Monat der Stille kurzerhand auf, um in den Trace Horse Studios in Nashville mit ihren Freunden und Bandkollegen Jacob Blizard, Collin Pastore und Jake Finch an neuem Material zu arbeiten. Ihre boygenius Kolleginnen Phoebe Bridgers und Julien Baker stießen hinzu um ihre Stimmen den Refrains von "Please Stay" und "Going Going Gone" zu leihen. Dass "Home Video" in einer verwirrenden Zeit wie dieser erscheint, wirkt wie vorbestimmt. Nach mehr als einem Jahr zuhause und in einer Lebensphase in der Videocalls die nahezu einzige Form von Zwischenmenschlichkeit waren, ist Retroromantik für viele zum Anker und Fluchtpunkt gleichermaßen geworden. "Home Video" ist ein Beispiel dafür, wie man Verletzlichkeit in Stärke verwandelt. Ihre Stimme und Songs liefern dabei das Fundament für einen hoffnungsfrohen Blick in die Zukunft, der die teils düstere Vergangenheit im Rückspiegel verblassen lässt.

Gaspard Augé hat schon immer brillant reißerische, musikalische Welten geschaffen, in denen man sich
verlieren kann. Am bekanntesten ist er als eine Hälfte von Justice, dem Duo, das Mitte der 2000er Jahre
Rock und Rave vereinte und dessen Dancefloor-Smashes eine ganze Generation definierten. Sein diesjähriges
Solo-Debütalbum „Escapades“ besiegelt seinen Ruf als Meister des Maximalismus, ein elektronischer Autor,
dessen imaginäre Soundtracks ein erfrischender Ruck aus der Realität sind. Seine köstlich massiven Traumlandschaften beschwört Bilder von progressiven, heidnischen Ritualen im Orbit oder Spaghetti-Western auf
einer Raumstation herauf. Seien wir ehrlich, der Zappa-artige Produzent hatte nie vor, eine introspektive
Platte zu schreiben: „Ich war schon immer davon besessen, überlebensgroße Musik zu machen“, sagt er.
„Vor allem, weil es mehr Spaß macht“.
Das letzte Mal hörten wir von Augé, als er und Xavier De Rosnay von Justice einen Grammy 2019 für ihr
Album ”Woman Worldwide” gewannen, ein Überarbeitungspaket ihres Katalogs aus dem letzten Jahrzehnt.
”Das Tolle an den Grammys ist, dass man im Voraus nicht weiß, ob man gewonnen hat oder nicht, also kam
es völlig überraschend”, sagt Augé. Es war eine verdiente Anerkennung für ihre gemeinsame, bahnbrechende
Arbeit. ”Wir haben uns einfach gefreut und dachten: ’Wir müssen etwas richtig gemacht haben’”, sagt
Augé. ”Und wir dachten: ’Okay, jetzt können wir dieses Kapitel abschließen’.”

Ohne Übertreibung kann man SKYEYE aus Slowenien als DAS Heavy-Metal-Wunderkind bezeichnen.
Gegründet im Jahr 2014 von Gitarrist Grega Stalowsky, Bassist Primož Lovšin und Sänger Jan Leščanec
überzeugt die Band durch einzigartiger und kraftvoller Gesang, kombiniert mit rauen und melodischen
Gitarrenriffs, die der Band ihren charakteristischen Heavy-Metal-Sound verleihen. Damit müssen sie sich
vor den großen Vertretern des Genres, wie Iron Maiden, Saxon oder Judas Priest, nicht verstecken. Die
Band hatte ihren ersten Auftritt im Juni 2017 und brachte nur vier Monate später ihre erste EP unter
dem Titel ”Run for Your Life” heraus. Die überwältigend positive Resonanz und der starke Support bei
ihren Auftritten trieb SkyEye zurück ins Studio, um ihr Debütalbum ”Digital God” aufzunehmen, das am
9. November 2018 veröffentlicht wurde.
Durch den Auftritt beim EMFA-Streaming-Festival im Sommer 2020 sorgte die Band erstmals auf internationaler Bühne für Aufsehen und galt für viele Besucher als DIE Entdeckung des Festivals. Daraus
resultierte der erste Plattenvertrag mit Reaper Entertainment und die nun weltweite Veröffentlichung ihres
zweiten Studioalbums ”Soldiers Of Light”. Das Album steckt voller wahrer Heavy Metal Hymnen, nach
denen man sich bereits jahrelang gesehnt hatte

Zweiter Streich der jungen Briten ist ein innovativer Höllenritt. Weder Covid-19 noch das zweite-Album-Syndrom konnte die vielleicht spannendste britische Rock-Hoffnung bremsen: "Cavalcade", der Nachfolger zum gefeierten Debüt "Schlagenheim", ist ein so dynamischer wie innovativer Höllenritt. Und eine weitere Standortbestimmung einer immer getriebenen jungen Band, die sich nicht auf dem bisher erreichten ausruhen will. Die Bedeutung des Titels beschreibt eine feierliche Prozession wie eine königliche Parade und black midi sehen ihr neues Album als eine Song-Parade von übermenschlichen Persönlichkeiten. Gefallene Kult-Führer, antike Leichname, die in einer Diamanten-Mine gefunden wurden oder die legendäre Sängerin Marlene Dietrich werden hier thematisiert. Musikalisch bedienen sich black midi aus einer ausufernden Palette an Einflüssen von Rock über Jazz, Hip Hop, elektronischer Musik, Klassik, Ambient und Prog.

Quietschbunte Indie-Pop-Tunes Nachdem das letzte Tune-Yards-Album "I can feel you creep into my private life" 2018 auf 12 Songs Themen wie Geschlechterteilung, Politik, Feminismus und die nach wie vor um sich greifende Umweltverschmutzung behandelte, hinterfragen sich Merrill Garbus und ihr langjähriger Mitstreiter Nate Brenner auf dem fünften Studioalbum "sketchy." selbst. "We had really been non-stop hustling," reflektiert Merrill, die zwischen 2009 und 2018 vier hoch gelobte Alben als Tune-Yards veröffentlicht hat, durchgängig auf Tour war und zusätzlich noch den Score zum surrealistischen Boots Riley-Film "Sorry To Bother You" kreierte. Ihre eigene Rolle in den von ihr so verhassten, eingefahrenen Systemen, lähmte Merrill, ohne Idee, wie sie nun weitermachen sollte. Inspiriert vom Buch der Beastie Boys und von Questloves "Creative Quest" machte sich das Duo daran täglich für mehrere Stunden in ihrem Proberaum zu jammen, um sich ähnlich wie Athleten vor einem Wettkampf zu trainieren. Dabei tauschten sie Computer-Samples gegen Live-Instrumente ein (Merrill an den Drums, Nate am Bass) und schon nach kurzer Zeit entstanden die ersten neuen Songs. Das Ergebnis ist ein farbenfrohes und fröhliches Album mit Lyrics, die es in sich haben.

Blue Lab Beats sind momentan eines der gefragtesten Produktionsduos der Welt und stehen für einen Sound, dem sie selbst den Namen Jazztronica gegeben haben und in dem Elemente von Jazz, Hip-Hop, Soul, Funk, R&B, Boom-Bap und Musik der afrikanischen Diaspora zusammenfließen.
Ihre erste EP bei Blue Note enthält fünf großartige Tracks, darunter den Kracher “Blow You Away (Delilah)”.
Die fröhliche Nummer ist unüberhörbar von westafrikanischem Highlife und Afrobeat inspiriert und featuret den aus Ghana stammenden, aber heute in London ansässigen Sänger Ghetto Boy, der als “Prinz” der dortigen Afrobeat-Szene bezeichnet wird. Ein weiteres Highlight ist der Track “Nights In Havana”, der
Hörer/innen mit souligen Jazzfusion-Klängen und einem Solo des jungen Gitarristen Alex Blake in karibische Gefilde lockt. In der slicken Titelnummer “We Will Rise” setzt sich der Bostoner Saxofonist Braxton
Cook in Szene, der schon mit Rihanna und Solange Knowles auf der Bühne stand. Das letzte Wort auf der
EP hat in “Tempting (Dance 2)” schließlich der momentan omnipräsente Rapper Kojey Radical, der auch
auf dem neuen Album von Sons Of Kemet glänzt

”Saskadelphia” steht sinnbildlich für den kreativen und Live-Höhepunkt von The Tragically Hip und gilt
als das verlorene Album der Band. Es kommt nun als Teil der einjährigen Feier zum 30-jährigen Jubiläum
von ’Road Apples’.
Der Albumtitel entstand durch die Vielzahl an Live-Shows der Band zu der Zeit, da sie nie wussten,
ob sie in Saskatchewan oder Philadelphia aufwachen würden. Als der Titel abgelehnt wurde, antwortete
die Band mit ’Horseshit...Road Apples’ und Road Apples’ wurde dann ausgerechnet das erste #1 Album
der Band in Kanada erreichte schließlich Diamantstatus.
Das Album beinhaltet alle bisher unveröffentlichten Tracks, wurde von Don Smith (Tom Petty & The
Heartbreakers, Keith Richards, 10.000 Maniacs, Roy Orbison) produziert und in den Barris-Studios in New
Orleans 1990 aufgenommen. Mit dabei auch die Single und das Video - # 1 ’Ouch’.

The future of one of the most influential German metal bands from now on will feature three singers. Originally planned for the live performances only, it was the birth of a unique seven piece metal alliance.

”FEAR OF THE FALLEN” – the second single is a fast paced, melodic track done the way only Deris can do it. ”I had so much fun not only writing a song for my voice but also for one of the greatest singers out there. I always have an extremely broad smile on my face when I hear Michi singing my melodies“, says Deris and Kiske adds: ”The whole process, including the spirit, was just ideal. If I had the feeling that one of the parts would not be really fitting, I asked Andi if he would sing it and vice versa. There was no competition whatsoever – what counted was what is best for the respective song. I am thankful to be (again) a part of this crazy family. I love them all”. Along with massive album tracks such as HELLOWEEN classic and album opener “OUT FOR THE GLORY“, the epic “DOWN IN THE DUMPS”, both written by Weikath, the power metal shouter “MASS POLLUTION“ by Deris and Grosskopf’s scuff proof rocker “INDESTRUCTIBLE“ (which could be an analogy towards the unbreakable career of the band), the album release is flanked by the ‘party-track‘ of the record, “BEST TIME“. Lyrically the song by Sascha Gerstner reminds of the good old days, musically it´s convincing with confident HELLOWEEN style guitar harmonies and a chorus that stays in your long-term memory after hearing it for the first time.

The base of this milestone album was already erected in the studio: using the original drum kit of Ingo Schwichtenberg, the recording was done with the same modulators at the Hamburg HOME studios where back then ”Master Of The Rings“, ”The Time Of The Oath“ and ”Better Than Raw“ were recorded. Completely analog and under the eyes of long term producer Charlie Bauerfeind and co-producer Dennis Ward, the UNITED impact travelled to New York and got the final mix in the Valhalla Studios of Ronald Prent (Iron Maiden, Def Leppard, Rammstein).

Returnee Kai Hansen reflects: ”Being in the studio with my old companions after 30 years was very emotional for me. But at the same time it was a completely different experience with the ‘new‘ boys. The collaboration of different songwriters and strong characters made the album very special: a unique mix with reminiscences from all chapters of the band’s history. HELLOWEEN is a big part of my life and I am looking forward to celebrating the songs live for and with our fans“! Dieses ausgegrabene Matthew Dear Album wurde ursprünglich nach seinem gefeierten Album Asa Breed (2007) aufgenommen. Für Fans von Beck, Bill Callahan/Smog, Bibio. In erster Linie kennt man den gefragten texanischen DJ und Elektronikproduzenten Matthew Dear seit über zwanzig Jahren als Grenzgänger der Clubmusik, der nur im erweiterten Sinne als Popmusiker aktiv ist. Auf seinem 'neuen' Studioalbum überrascht der US-Musiker jetzt mit ungewöhnlichen Klängen. "Preacher's Sigh & Potion: Lost Album" wurde vor zehn Jahren aufgenommen, aber das Material nie veröffentlicht. Inspiriert vom Gitarrenspiel seines verstorbenen Vaters und klassischen Country-Folk-Favoriten wie Emmylou Harris, wendete Dear an, was er über Techno-Arrangements wusste, um einen organischen, loop-zentrierten Sound zu erforschen, der bluesig, persönlich und verspielt ist und die Geschichte von Pop und Rock, den Twang von Country, den Aufbau und das Loslassen von Techno durcheinander wirbelt.

Tony Conrads Konzept von Minimal Music als Maximalismus des Ausdrucks ist eine der Inspirationen für TRIALOGOS. Die Musik entsteht aus der Spannung zwischen den Beiträgen der drei Akteure Conny Ochs, Sicker Man und Kiki Bohemia, die aus unterschiedlichen musikalischen Subszenen stammen. Im Zusammenspiel ergeben sich so musikalische 'Trialoge'. Das Ergebnis sind kinematografische Klangflächen, die sowohl helle Interferenzen schaffen, als auch düstere, verzerrte Wirklichkeiten verbergen. Dabei wirken die Stücke des Debüt-Albums "Stroh zu Gold" hoch emotional. Sie sind das Ergebnis einer kollektiven Improvisation und Instant Composition, und eben keine Konstruktion. TRIALOGOS sind: Conny Ochs, Sicker Man and Kiki Bohemia. Conny Ochs ist längst fester Bestandteil der Exile-On-Mainstream-Familie. Zeugen sind seine Solo-Alben und natürlich die Kollaborationen mit Doom-Legende Scott "Wino" Weinrich. Tobias Vethake ist Multiinstrumentalist und Komponist. Als Komponist von Schauspiel- und Filmmusiken arbeitete er u.a. am Volkstheater Wien und dem Imperial War Museum London und schrieb Soundtracks u.a. für Muxmäuschenstill (D), Bye Bye Berlusconi (I) und Seance (US). One of the most significant collections in Trojan’s immense catalogue, the ‘The Trojan Story’ album dramatically changed the perception of Jamaican music among the general British public outside of the country’s Afro-Caribbean population.

Prior to its release in 1971 there had never been an attempt to present a comprehensive anthology of the island’s musical development, with vintage ska, rock steady and reggae widely regarded as obsolete and of precious little merit.

The treble disc set, which became an instant best-seller, had been the brainchild of Trojan’s label manager and Black Music fan, Rob Bell, who, assisted by Trojan stalwarts, Dandy, Webster Shrowder and Joe Sinclair, produced arguably the most significant Jamaican music retrospectives of all time.

Now, 50 years following its original release, this hugely influential album has been revisited by Bell, along with reggae musician, Rusty Zinn, who have succeeded in improving what was already an almost perfect collection.

Presented in the original eye-catching artwork, the set is further enhanced by a highly illustrated 50-page booklet in which Bell relates the stories behind the release and the 50 tracks featured on the compilation.

Und wenn ja: Zieht man das durch? Auf ihrem neunten Album "Talks Of Paradise" präsentieren Slut sich in einem ungewohnten und neuen Soundgewand. Die Gitarrenwände haben sie ersetzt, das Klanggewitter neu gedacht. Stattdessen gibt es analoge elektronische Töne, eine tiefe Transparenz und einige beinahe minimalistische Skizzen. Den hymnischen Indie-Sound ihrer früheren Alben gibt es immer noch. Das hört man unter anderem auf der Vorab-Single "For The Soul There Is No Hospital". Es geht aber nicht darum, zwanghaft etwas Neues zu versuchen. Oder um den Zweikampf Synthie vs. Gitarre. Vielmehr um das Abschalten von Automatismen. Um eine Suche nach dem Momentum. Auch wenn dabei anfangs ein Mosaik aus vermeintlich widersprüchlichen Eindrücken entsteht. Slut ist etwas bemerkenswertes gelungen: Eine etablierte Band aus Leuten und Freunden, die sich schon sehr lange kennen, hat sich entschieden etwas wirklich Neues zu wagen. Chart-breaking German folk rock institution SUBWAY TO SALLY have carved a unique live experience in stone with their upcoming release, Eisheilige Nacht: Back To Lindenpark, out on BluRay/DVD/CD on June 18, 2021 via Napalm Records. Since their foundation in the early ‘90s, SUBWAY TO SALLY have established themselves at the top of the scene. Having released thirteen studio records so far, the seven-piece featuring the remarkable Eric Fish on vocal duties never fails in surprising their devotees with an ingenious symbiosis of folk, heavy metal and rock. In the course of time, it became a tradition to celebrate every year with numerous fans and a final live show on December 30. What started as Eisheilige Nacht - with sold out solo-gigs in the band's hometown of Potsdam at the venue Lindenpark - turned into a whole annual festival tour shortly after, where top-notch bands heeded the call to join SUBWAY TO SALLY for some magical evenings. Due to the pandemic, 2020’s edition couldn’t take place in its usual form. As a result, the German folk rock unit decided to offer an unforgettable lockdown live event which they hope will be a unique way to fill the gap until they return to the stage. The Scientists’ powerful brand of deranged swamp-rock returns with
a vengeance as In the Red Records unleashes Negativity, an allnew
magnum opus featuring the first new full length album by the
Australian band’s penultimate line-up in thirty-five years.
The bruising eleven-track collection features a Scientists
configuration much beloved by connoisseurs of the band’s work:
singer-guitarist Kim Salmon, lead guitarist Tony Thewlis, and bassist
Boris Sujdovic, all veterans of the group’s defining 1981-85 outfit,
and drummer Leanne Cowie, who replaced drummer Brett Rixon on
the storming 1986 release Weird Love.
A solid crop of fresh originals is highlighted by the opening
statement of purpose “Outside”; the offbeat, yowling waltz “Naysayer”;
the hilarious, self-mocking “Suave,” which Salmon says was inspired
by the work of his countrymen the Moodists; and the utterly surprising
“Moth-Eaten Velvet,” a Velvet Underground homage in ballad form
that features a three-piece string section. Instrumental guests on the
album include producer Mumford, who contributes trombone on
“Make It Go Away,” and Salmon’s daughter Emma, who essays piano
and background vocals.
Negativity is the third Scientists release and the first fulllength
album for In the Red. The current quartet cut the single
“Braindead”/“SurvivalsKills” in 2018 and the five-song 2019 EP
9H2O SiO2, the title of which translates (in a hat tip to the lyrics of
the group’s classic “Swampland”) as Nine Parts Water, One Part Sand.
Those recordings were issued in conjunction with the group’s first two
U.S. tours during that period.
Raw, freewheeling, and spattered with the high-voltage sound, the
Scientists have drawn from such influences as the Stooges, Suicide,
the Gun Club, and the Cramps, Negativity is jubilant, unpredictable
listening.

80’s Thrash Metal in the vein of early Slayer, Sepultura and Sodom. Completely dedicated to old school horror movies! Video Nasty is a Thrash/Death/Speed Metal project from Calgary/Vancouver, Canada started by Jordan Schritt. Jordan wanted to start a project which lyrically dealt with all of the 70’s/80’s/90’s slasher/horror movies he adored. This together with furious Metal was the perfect combination. He started to compose a bunch of songs and wrote lyrics to these songs that were all tied to one specific movie per song. Once he gathered enough material to record an EP Jordan asked a few friends to participate in this project. He also made sure that the artwork for this EP was perfect for the content. All in all this EP rages and rips as gruesomely as all the movies the lyrics were based on. Furious 80’s Thrash Metal with lyrics comprised of all the filth that deranged moviemakers came up with.

Musica Elettronica Viva, or MEV for short, was formed in 1966 in Rome by Allan Bryant, Alvin Curran, Jon Phetteplace, Carol Plantamura, Frederic Rzweski, Richard Teitelbaum and Ivan Vandor. From the very beginning the group was based on musical freedom and the shunning of convention. Using contact microphones to record and manipulate sound wherever it could be found – from box springs to vibrators – and improvisationally combining those recordings with tenor sax, homemade synths and the very first Moog to trek cross the Atlantic, MEV made some of the most imaginative and abrasive sounds of the time.

Recorded in live performance at the Academy of Arts (Akademie der Künste) in Berlin on October 5, 1967, Spacecraft is made up of a single piece of the same name – a slow building, jarring and disquieting work that reveals the entire MEV ethos in its lone half hour. As group member Alvin Curran put it “The music could go anywhere, gliding into self-regenerating unity or lurching into irrevocable chaos - both were valuable goals. In the general euphoria of the times, MEV thought it had re-invented music; in any case it had certainly rediscovered it.” Our Swimmer is pleased to present this first ever vinyl issue of MEV’s Spacecraft, an early piece from the most free-spirited group of the 20th century avant-garde.

African, funky, sarcastic, bewitching, green, ecstatic: these words collide to describe Vaudou Game and all of them are true. Bella is the first vinyl single derived from the upcoming album called Noussin, due to be relased June 11th 2021.

The battle against the plague has raged hard for over a year. Around the globe, dancefloors are empty, layers of dust and broken bottles strewn across them…the glowsticks have long faded to black. Maeckes hat ein neues Album gemacht. “POOL” ist sein Of-Age-Moment: Die elf Songs handeln von der
Liebe, von der trügerischen Kraft der Gewissheit und vom Ankommen, das nie kommen wird.
Der Albumtitel ist dabei gleichermaßen Sinnbild und Mission Statement. Er steht für den Pool als losen
Vibe und konkreten Ort: ein Becken voller kleiner Sehnsüchte, in dessen unschuldiger Oberfläche sich
die großen Fragen unseres Lebens und die großen Ungerechtigkeiten unserer Welt spiegeln. “POOL” ist,
in radikaler Konsequenz, ein Pool an Liedern. Der rote Faden findet sich im Subtext; darüber erschafft
Maeckes in sich geschlossene Welten mit unterschiedlichsten Ästhetiken und musikalischen Referenzen auf
die eigene wie allgemein die Musikgeschichte: von den alten Franzosen über Yacht Pop und Punkrock bis
hin zu 808 und gebrochenen Herzen. Mit “POOL” schließt die Trilogie seiner Soloalben. Nach “KIDS”
von 2010 und “TILT” von 2016 repräsentiert “POOL” auch musikalisch ein Ankommen. Die Melodien sind
ausformulierter, die Worte klarer, der Vibe zärtlicher, auch versöhnlicher als je zuvor bei Maeckes. Das
Ankommen wird nie kommen. Es ist, als als müsste man genau das akzeptieren, um trotzdem irgendwie
anzukommen. Und zu erkennen, dass er vielleicht schon da ist. “POOL” erscheint am 11.06.2021 digital,
als CD und gelb transparente Vinyl (1LP).

Mdous Musik hat ihre Wurzeln zwar in traditionellen Tuareg-Melodien, gibt aber auch immer wieder Einflüsse von u.a. Eddie Van Halen preis. Neben Mdou besteht die Band aus Bassist und Producer Mikey Coltun, Drummer Souleymane Ibrahim und Gitarrist Ahmoudou Madassane. Zusammen haben sie längst auf ausgiebigen Touren bewiesen, dass sie nicht nur heimische Hochzeitsfeiern rocken können, sondern ebenso Festivalbühnen auf der anderen Seite der Erdkugel. Dabei beherrschen sie sowohl den hypnotischen Boogie von Black Sabbath der Masters of Reality-Ära, als auch den erhabenen elektrisierenden Groove von Black Uhuru. Mdou Moctar lebt in Agadez im Niger, einer eher ländlichen Gegend, die wie eine kleine Oase mitten in der Sahara wirkt. Hier entsteht auch ein Großteil seiner Musik, die ihn in West-Afrika zu einer echten Berühmtheit hat werden lassen. Verbreitet haben sich seine Sounds dort nicht durch das Internet und Social Media, sondern über die Speicherkarten aus Mobiltelefonen, die wie Tapes weitergegeben und getauscht werden und wie analog-digitales Lauffeuer durch das Land gehen. Den internationalen Durchbruch schaffte Mdou Moctar 2019 mit dem Album "Ilana: The Creator". Mit seiner vierköpfigen Band reiste Moctar anschließend durch die Welt und wurde schnell zum inoffiziellen Botschafter seines Landes. Nun liegt der langerwartete Nachfolger vor.

On the flipside, Argentina's Fernando Pulichino (2020 Soundsystem, Silver City) joins in with his flamboyant bass and shimmering guitars on DELTA TIGRE, an afro-cosmic sound contraption. Mit einer Karriere, die sich über drei Jahrzehnte und mehrere Generationen erstreckt, ist die fesselnde
Musik des Komponisten und Pianisten Ludovico Einaudi zu einer der bekanntesten der Welt geworden.
Um seine unglaublichen filmischen Leistungen zu feiern, veröffentlicht Decca Records, mit Cinema eine
neue handverlesene Sammlung von Einaudis unglaublichen musikalischen Werken aus Film und Fernsehen.
Cinema enthält 28 atemberaubende Tracks aus Film und Fernsehen, darunter Insidious, Sense8, This
is England und vier von Einaudis Tracks aus dem Oscar-gekrönten Film und Soundtrack Nomadland.
Die Regisseurin Chloe Zhao war kürzlich zu Gast im Podcast Experience: The Ludovico Einaudi Story
und sprach mit Moderator Joe Dempsie darüber, wie sie Einaudis Musik zum ersten Mal entdeckte:
”Ich ging online auf die Suche nach klassischer Musik, die von der Natur inspiriert ist... es führte mich
zu einem YouTube-Video von seiner Elegy for the Arctic. Dann fing ich an, Seven Days Walking zu hören
und war erstaunt, wie ich das Gefühl hatte, Ludovico würde in den Alpen wandern. Ich hatte das Gefühl,
als würden er und die Figur von Fern parallel wandern; ihre gemeinsame Liebe zur Natur verbindet sie, und
da wusste ich, dass seine Musik perfekt zu unserem Film passen würde.”

Andy Gill begann mit der Planung einer Compilation zum 40-jährigen Jubiläum des stilprägenden Gang Of Four Debütalbums "Entertainment!" (1979), seine Witwe Catherine Meyer setzte nach seinem Tod 2020 die Arbeit fort und wandelte zusammen mit allen Beteiligten das Projekt in einen Tributsampler mit dem Titel "The Problem Of Leisure - A Celebration Of Andy Gill & Gang Of Four" um. Jede:r teilnehmende Künstler:in interpretierte einen Track nach Wahl aus Gang Of Four's 40-jähriger Karriere nach ihrem/seinem Gusto neu. Rostam war einst Gründungsmitglied von Vampire Weekend und produzierte deren ersten drei Alben, wofür er unter anderem mit einem Grammy ausgezeichnet wurde. Auf dem neuen Werk experimentiert der Musiker mit Sound-Landschaften, beeinflusst von 50er Jahre Bebop und 90er Jahre Neo-Psychedelia. Inhaltlich streift Rostam auf "Changephobia" unter anderem Themen wie die globale Erderwärmung ("These Kids We Knew"), Sex ("Unfold You") und das uramerikanische Phänomen des Road Trips ("4Runner"). Angesprochen auf den Albumtitel verrät Rostam: "Vor ein paar Jahren traf ich eine fremde Person auf einer Parkbank und wir kamen ins Gespräch. Ich öffnete mich und erzählte von einigen Änderungen in meinem Leben, die meinen Lebenslauf erheblich auf den Kopf stellten." Die Person ermutigte Rostam, dass Veränderungen gut sind und er an diesen festhalten solle. "Die Lieder auf 'Changephobia' sollen nicht die Angst vor Veränderungen feiern, sondern das genaue Gegenteil."

Outside Ludlow / Desert Disco is the first major solo release from Australian performer-composer Sam Dunscombe, now based in Berlin after residing for the past decade in San Diego and Tokyo. A virtuoso clarinettist who has performed in composed and improvised settings with artists such as Klaus Lang and Taku Sugimoto, their practice also embraces computer music, lo-fi electronics and field recordings, in addition to their long-term commitment to archiving, studying and performing the work of Romanian spectralist composer Horatiu Radulescu.
The two side-long pieces presented on this LP began from a chance encounter in a specific geographic location (documented in the photographs that grace the record’s sleeve). Exploring California’s Mojave desert with a friend, Dunscombe made the unlikely discovery of a tangle of quarter-inch tape snared on a cactus. The digitised version of this tape, variously edited and processed, as well as Dunscombe’s own transcription and embellished performance of some of its material on Hammond organ, makes up one of the main ingredients of the LP’s first side. The other is a field recording of the area outside the ghost town of Ludlow, where the tape was found, where haunted silence is punctuated by freight trains and clusters of explosions from gold mines and the local marine corps. Far from any kind of documentary approach, the resulting composition reaches back to the smeared atmospherics and overdriven tape crunch of Hands To, Small Cruel Party or Joe Colley, before the Hammond organ rises up to cast a spectral shimmer reminiscent of 1960s tape music classics like Arne Nordheim’s ‘Warszawa’.

On ‘Desert Disco’ (its title perhaps a clue to the content of the mysterious tape), Dunscombe zeroes in on a single fragment of the tape, accompanying it with analogue synthesis to craft an immersive work based on a single chord. Throughout the course of this work, the monolithic opening sonority gradually splits apart, revealing an infinity of rhythmically phasing lines that swarm like a cloud of insects and patter like falling rain, placing Dunscombe’s piece in a lineage of patient electronic exploration that includes landmarks like Costin Miereanu’s Derives and the contemporary work of Jim O’Rourke.

What does it mean to pray? To address someone, to plead for something, to welcome humiliation and failure: Please, let me forget about the China Chalet parties, please let there be no countries and no war, please let me love you. Is prayer iteration, or just repetition: My god, my god, my god, my god… To know spleen you just have to be down to be humiliated. But do we know for sure that we are miserable? How do we know?

This is how it has to go. We listened to this for the first time together in May 2017, while driving from Chicago to New York along the I-80 in Pennsylvania, stopping at the rest area that I later mistook for the famous picture of American “culture.” We stayed at a hotel and may have ordered a pizza. Content first, then, content again. Went inside and drank wine in relative silence, burping. Recognizing the sacredness in the plot of Friends. A choral melisma representative of holy Joy.

The dreams of moving through a convoluted space of passages, staircases, open courtyards, rooms just glimpsed past a door. It doesn’t seem possible that you can get from one place to the next but according to the logic of the dream you do. I think this has to do with how each little unit of ‘content’ happens at a different distance from your ear. The holiness of the periphery. That you can catch a shard of history if you only find the right distance to stand from the painting.

But prayer is also like the magic language we were talking about — faith that words do something more than just mean — they have the capacity to effect change in the world, and not just in the like, “words change ppl’s minds” kind of way, but in that the words themselves actually have agency. Form: sing-along.
