Spike Lees neuester Film ,Highest 2 Lowest" zeigt das Leben des Gründers des fiktiven Plattenlabels Stackin Hit's, gespielt von Denzel Washington. Der Soundtrack hat eine coole Auswahl an Original-Songs von etablierten Musikgrößen und neuen Künstlern. Die aufstrebenden Sängerinnen Jensen McCrae und Aiyana-Lee bringen ihre einzigartigen Stimmen ins Album ein, während die Harlem-Legende Eddie Palmieri mit seinem Salsa-Orchester für energiegeladene Auftritte sorgt. Das absolute Highlight ist der ebenfalls aus New York stammende A$AP Rocky (der auch in dem Film mitspielt), der zwei knallharte Ohrwürmer beisteuert, die uns daran erinnern, warum er einer der modernen Superstars des Rap ist. Die Starpower des Soundtracks wird durch eine mitreißende Orchesterpartitur von Howard Drossin untermalt und durch ein vom Jazzpianisten Fergus McCreadie angeführtes Trio ergänzt.

The album is made up of two sessions recorded for BBC Radio 1 at Maida Vale Studios, from 1973 and 1978 that feature vocalist Norma Winstone, trumpeter Henry Lowther, saxophonists Art Themen, Tony Coe and Alan Wakeman, trombonist David Horler, bassists Dave Green and Jeff Clyne, and drummers Trevor Tomkins and John Marshall. The material, all composed by Garrick, includes some favourites from the classic LPs 'Troppo' and 'October Woman'. He wouldn't record the tracks "River Running" and "Galilee" until decades later, so this is the first time these '70s arrangements have been released. Whereas "Robin's Rest" and the title track are exclusive to this album - providing a fascinating insight into this uniquely talented artist.

Garrick was at the forefront of British jazz from the mid-1960s until his death in 2011 aged 78. He was a key member of The Don Rendell / Ian Carr Quintet, composing the jazz gems "Dusk Fire and "Black Marigolds" and released a series of seminal 1960s and 1970s LPs including 'Cold Mountain', 'The Heart is a Lotus' and 'Black Marigolds'. Remastered by Caspar Sutton-Jones @ Gearbox Records, 'Late Autumn Sunshine' is available as a 2LP set housed in a gatefold sleeve (a limited edition of 600 copies) and 'mini-LP' gatefold CD, with sleeve notes by Daniel Spicer (Jazzwise, The Wire). 'Late Autumn Sunshine' celebrates Michael Garrick's memory and should introduce him to many new fans.

With simpatico support from double bassist Drew Gress and drummer Tom Rainey, Hersch presented fresh interpretations of tunes by his favourite jazz composers, which included Miles Davis ('Milestones'), Wayne Shorter ('Iris'), Thelonious Monk ('Played Twice'), Dizzy Gillespie ('Con Alma'), and Herbie Hancock (Speak Like A Child). The album also includes an original number, 'Evanessence,' which Hersch composed as a salute to pianist Bill Evans. The Fred Hersch Trio Plays is a remarkable collection of performances affirming that jazz is about exploration, constant reinvention, and selfless teamwork.

Working with elite keys player Ross Stanley (steadily making ripples on the world stage through his work with legends like Maceo Parker, and more recently with Robben Ford), guitarist Nigel Price says: "I've never heard Ross play a bad note, and he absolutely played out of his skin on this record." Joel Barford is one of the most exciting and vibrant young drummers on the scene today. He relishes the space and freedom of the organ trio format, which is totally evident on this new recording.

Six of the nine pieces are original Price compositions, confirming his strength as a writer, especially for this tight, powerful unit. A relaxed recording session brought out the best in these three master musicians, and the result is an exciting collection of captivating music. Nigel Price is acknowledged as one of the foremost UK exponents of jazz guitar. He has played on more than 60 albums including eight as a leader, spent 10 years with acid jazz outfit The Filthy Six, was a member of James Taylor's band, JTQ, for three years (with whom he recorded five albums) and performed with the legendary David Axelrod. Price has worked tirelessly to organise his own tours, with epic tours he's organised for the Nigel Price Organ Trio becoming the stuff of legend.

Recorded with an ensemble of outstanding musicians, the album moves effortlessly between groove, spirit, and freedom — connecting continents through sound.

BIBOUL DAROUICHE is a singer, percussionist, composer and head of the ensemble. By playing the conga, djembe, calimba and - the African treetrunk drum (also called nkul or tam-tam, which by the way should not be missing at any concert!) Darouiche brings a very special color to his music. He works mainly in Europe, but his engagements also take him to the Middle East, the countries of the CIS, Brazil and the USA. Since1995 he has been a member of Klaus Doldinger's Passport. He has also worked with musicians such as Al Di Meola, Pee Wee Ellis, Roy Ayers, Graham Haynes, Paquito D'Rivera and the Jazz Baltica Ensemble.

The Austrian multi-instrumentalist and producer MICHAEL HORNEK, who is part of the permanent cast of Klaus Doldinger's Passport as a keyboardist, plays keyboards, percussion and sings. His free-jazzy percussive playing inspires every listener. Hornek's keyboard skills can be heard on over 750 music productions, and the trend is of course increasing!

Mauritian bassist LINLEY MARTHE is one of the world's best bassists. He was a long time permanent member of the band Joe Zawinul Syndicate,worked with musicians like Dave Liebmann, Richard Galliano, Omar Hakimand many more. Zawinul said of Linley Marthe in an interview: “Linley is a phenomenon. I don't know if anyone can match him in terms of bass playing."

ROGER BIWANDU, french musician born and raised in Bordeaux/France, with roots from Congo (DRC) is an artist resident at l'Apollo bar in Bordeaux since june 1997, he plays there one time per month. He played with a lot of great musicians all over the world, with some heavy weights too, like Joe Zawinul, Salif Keita, Marcus Miller, Lee Ritenour, John Beasley, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Franck McComb, to name a few.

Anfang 1996 veröffentlichte The Wedding Present "Mini" über Cooking Vinyl Records, eine EP mit sechs Titeln, deren Songs alle einen Bezug zum motorisierten Fahren hatten. Fast dreißig Jahre später hat David Gedge dieses Konzept wieder aufgegriffen! "Maxi" enthält sechs weitere Stücke, deren Titel/Inhalte sich alle auf diese Thema beziehen. Maxi erscheint über Clue Records und folgt kurz nach der Veröffentlichung von 40 - der Zusammenstellung, die den komplexen und faszinierenden Katalog von The Wedding Present in einem Box-Set mit vier Vinyl- und/oder vier CDs widerspiegelt. When Niko Moon broke out with his triple-platinum hit “GOOD TIME,” the Texas-born, Georgia-raised singer/songwriter lit up the country scene with his larger-than-life energy and message of radical positivity. Since then, he’s earned a passionate following, major TV performances, and praise from outlets like Holler and American Songwriter. With AMERICAN PALM Deluxe, arriving right before his headline AMERICAN PALM Tour, Niko expands his latest LP with
two new tracks, “BREATHE” and “BARE FEET IN THE SAND,” furthering his mission of creating music that feels like a“mental vacation” filled with sun-soaked serenity and coastal escape.

Light in the Attic freut sich, Nancy Sinatras gleichnamiges Album von 1969 zu veröffentlichen. Diese neue Ausgabe und erste Vinyl-Neuauflage überhaupt von "Nancy" feiert eine der am wenigsten bekannten Phasen der verehrten Künstlerin. Nach drei Jahren im Rampenlicht und an der Spitze der Popmusik war Nancy Sinatra plötzlich in einer unerwarteten, aber irgendwie vertrauten Situation - ähnlich wie Anfang 1965. Sie war wieder einmal ohne Produzenten, ohne neue Songs und kämpfte darum, bei ihrem Label zu bleiben. Lee Hazlewood war Nancys Produzent und Duettpartner gewesen und hatte viele ihrer Hits geschrieben. Nach einer unglaublichen dreijährigen Erfolgsserie zog Lee plötzlich ohne Abschied nach Schweden. Nancy war überrascht und verletzt, aber sie machte weiter und entwickelte sich weiter. Sie fand einen Produzenten in ihrem langjährigen Arrangeur Billy Strange und entdeckte einen jungen Songwriter (und zukünftigen Superstar) namens Mac Davis, der ihr helfen würde, ihren Sound neu zu definieren. It is easy to see why he rapidly became involved in free jazz. Once he was settled in New York, he appeared on Sunny Murray Quintet, recorded under the leadership of the drum crazy colleague of Albert Ayler.



In 1968, the saxophonist and flutist recorded his first album under his own name: It’s Not Up To Us. The following year he came to Paris in the wake of… Sunny Murray. He would come back to France in 1971 (again with Murray) and in 1973 (without Murray for a change). This is when he met Jef Gilson, the pianist and producer who encouraged him to record under his own name again.

On Palm Records (Gilson’s label), he would release four albums: Us, Mother Africa, Exactement and Funny Funky Rib Crib.



A few months after recording “Us”, Lancaster recorded “Mother Africa” along with Clint Jackson III, a trumpeter, partner of Khan Jamal or Noah Howard on other recordings.

On march 8th, 1974, Lancaster and Jackson headed up a group composed of Jean-François Catoire (electric and double bass), Keno Speller (percussion) and Jonathan Dickinson (drums).


Together, they create an immediate impression. From the first seconds of “We The Blessed”, they develop a free jazz which rapidly abandons any virulence under the effect of blues and soul based interventions.

When Gilson’s composition “Mother Africa” begins, listeners are transported into the studio, listening to the musicians setting up: chatting and joking… Then comes the melody: a dozen or so notes of a repeated theme which is accelerated and deformed according to their whims… The jazz played by the association Byard Lancaster / Clint Jackson III is rare: creative AND recreational. “We the blessed”, is apt listening to this again today!

This CD edition contains a bonus track, the magnificent “Love Always” that was originally released on the fourth (and last) volume of the Jef Gilson Anthology series released in 1975.


Recorded on 8th March 1974, it is a beautiful 15-minute-long modal jazz piece. Four notes from the bass (the relentless Jean-François Catoire, who makes up the rhythm section alongside drummer Jonathan Dickinson and percussionist Keno Speller), and the group is up and running!

On piano, Gilson shows the subtle tact of a sideman, leaving the lions’ share of the place to the horns. This allows us to hear the trumpet of Clint Jackson III and the alto (which sometimes sounds almost flute-like) of Byard Lancaster each staking their claim in a long hallucinatory march which moves from moments of direct exaltation to profoundly sensitive collective playing.

On the album, the trio works from the John Coltrane model; free jazz shook up by the timely contributions of the bassist, followed by a mesmerizing atmospheric music. Then, Lancaster delivers a sinuous solo path, which is a reminder of his unique tone. On the album’s companion single, the trio launches into great black music of a different genre which would lead the clairvoyant François Tusques to claim that Byard Lancaster is an “authentic representative of soul/free jazz”, to sum up this is Great Black Music!

Yusuf am Herzen liegen, wie Edgar Winters „Dying to Live“ und Luther Dixons/Al Smiths „Big Boss Man“.
Sogar eine bluesige Neuinterpretation von Jimmie Davies/Charles Mitchells „You Are My Sunshine“ ist
dabei.
(Eingeweihte Fans wissen, dass Leadbelly schon immer einer von Yusufs Lieblingskünstlern war, und zum
ersten Mal wird dies in seiner Musik deutlich.) Klanglich besticht das Album durch kraftvolle Grooves und

Moin, it's Brigade Helbing!!! Endlich auch in Rille gepresst!!! Die Hamburger Oi!-Punk Veteranen spielen den klassischen Deutsch-Oi! Sound der 90er Jahre, da kommen sie her. Bewusst sperrig, punkig und oldschool. Scholzer und Eike waren in jungen Jahren in den Bands Testosteron und Smegma aktiv. Man hatte einfach mal wieder Bock auf Bier trinken im Proberaum und darauf, die alten Songs zu spielen. Als Verstärkung holten sie sich Dennis von den Harbour Rebels an der Gitarre und Frank von L.A.K. an den Drums; beides alte Freunde aus der Fanszene des FC St.Pauli. Die ursprüngliche Idee, dass jeder die Hits seiner Bands mitbringt wurde dann ziemlich schnell verworfen. Die Texte sind erwachsen und man hört deutlich die Jahrzehnte in der Szene heraus. Herumgepose braucht in dieser Band keiner mehr. Die Debüt-EP enthält 6 Songs, davon eine Coverversion von L.A.K.s "Mehr Als Fußball", einem alten Gassenhauer aus der St.Pauli Fanszene Mit Unterstützung von Jule, Sängerin der Harbour Rebels, zusammen mir Scholzer im Duett. Ihrer Ansicht nach die beste Paarung seit Cindy & Bert.

Following the success of 1998's Whitey Ford Sings the Blue, Eat at Whitey's finds him beefing up his sound as well as bringing in big names, such as N'dea Davenport (who adds her vocals on the sexy, R&B- flavored "Love for Real"), Goodie Mob's Cee- Lo, Cypress Hill's B Real, and Carlos Santana, for whom Everlast penned the Grammywinning "Put Your Lights On." Everlast is still fixated on redemption and regret, but his intensity and passion make up for the narrow focus, as, guitar in hand, he conjures up a nocturnal, sultry world populated with saints, sinners, and homeboys.

What if fate had followed a different path? Alex Marker and Ben Reed were childhood friends who made music together before pursuing different careers, with Ben becoming a professional musician while Alex followed a career in stage design.

Originally a drummer, Alex set himself a challenge of writing a song for his wife for their wedding day. One song led to another and collaborating for the first time since they were very young Alex and Ben soon found they had a whole album's worth. Influenced by Alex's career in drama each track on Impostor Syndrome aims to tell a tale or paint a portrait encapsulating a moment of change or release. Ben brings a wider palette of musical styles and arrangements to augment a series of songs which draw from a wide range of musical influences including: singer/ songwriter, British prog, folk and rock. Ben Reed is a multi instrumentalist whose playing credits include bass duties on Frank Ocean's albums Endless and Blond as well as work with David Byrne, Sampha, Mustafa, Frank Dukes, Nilufer Yanya, Hayden Thorpe, FKA Twigs and many others.

He has previously released four full length albums of his own; Tall Story, Who Dreams of Hyssop, Station Masters, Loft, Bandaged and most recently You Do You. Alex Marker is a critically acclaimed theatre set and costume designer who has designed over 150 productions for a wide variety of venues including The West End, tours, regional theatres and the fringe. Further back he used to play drums in pit bands for productions and has occasionally been seen on stage too. The album features guests including: organist Ross Stanley (Steve Howe Trio), flautist R achel Hayter ( Alvorada ), bassoonist Philip Dale ( Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment) and Matt Weeks who plays brass alongside mixing duties.

Love Quantum is the seventh studio album by Grammy Award nominee Theo Croker since his 2007 debut. The album finds Croker making his first-ever foray into the concept of love, once again inviting listeners on a genre-defying journey across time and space in discovery of the self and our shared human experience. Of the album, Croker says, “It's a love story. It's a tribute to all the different levels of love that can exist - love of a friend, love of a partner, love of a parent, love of yourself and a love of life. It's really about the journey of love, the experience of it, and how powerful that energy is for us as human beings.”

Despite featuring an extraordinary cast of musicians (with credits including Pharoah Sanders, Miles Davis, Sun Ra, Santana and Milton
Nascimento) and selling hundreds of thousands of albums, the music of Gabrielle Roth & The Mirrors remains largely unheard beyond their sphere. Conceived as live, improvised soundtracks to Roth’s transcendental dance workshops, musical acclaim was never on the agenda.Instead, for a passionate dancer and spiritual polyglot like Gabrielle Roth, movement was a means through which to channel a wide spectrum of teaching, from experimental psychology to psychedelic counter-culture. It was from this heady mix that she devised a movement meditation known as 5Rhtyhms, which came to define her life’s work.

As “guide and catalyst”, Roth would dance to inspire the percussion-led instrumentals that would in turn fuel her 5Rhythms workshops, stimulating a secular form of ecstatic dance with roots in Native American shamanic traditions, Afro-Brazilian Candomblé and Yoruba drumming. Using anything from a Sioux pony drum to East African kihembe and Japanese Kabuki drums, Gabrielle’s lawyer-turned-drummer husband Robert Ansell set the foundational rhythms for The Mirrors’ recordings, each of which would then feature a rotating cast of friends and professional musicians.

“The secret of everything we’ve done is that we never told anybody what to play,” Robert shares. “Instead of our albums being a musical vision of one person like me or Gabrielle, they were the musical vision of a whole bunch of people.”At times the recordings have a Middle Eastern flair, at others, West African and spiritual jazz modes come to the fore. Hints of kosmische musik, proto-house and electronic ambience are laced like LSD through the organic rhythmic structures. This was kaleidoscopic ambient music to stir the body and free the mind.

In practice, the task of synthesising these different elements fell to Scott Ansell, Robert’s son and a recording engineer whose credits now include Nile Rogers, Duran Duran, Grace Jones. With meticulous attention to detail he captured and translated the dynamic energy of each drum onto record. Their sessions became legendary, and with access to the best studios in the NYC, The Mirrors sparkled.

Despite being initially overlooked by the burgeoning ‘80s New Age market, which preferred pipes and gongs to The Mirrors’ heavy-grooving drums, Robert Ansell set up Raven Recording to self-release the music, creating a vast sonic archive of sixteen albums over almost forty years. The breadth of Raven’s catalogue is such that curator Pol Valls had to cut an initial selection of sixty-six tracks down to the eleven featured here. What crystallises is a stunning, mind-altering collection which spans, in Pol’s words, “a variety of genres, styles, and vibes within their catalogue, whether it is emotional, esoteric, spiritual, melancholic, hypnotic, dark, or at times a combination of these elements together.”Music for immersive and intimate environments, Gabrielle Roth & The Mirrors were born from the dance. In the hands of the right DJ, at the right time, in the right place, they might just return there.

CTMF covern The Saints! Featuring Nurse Julie am Lead-Gesang! Die schwarze Vinyl 7" ist limitiert auf 300 Stück! Nachdem Billy ,(I'm) Stranded" gekauft und 1977 The Saints als Vorgruppe von The Jam gesehen hatte, dachte er, dass es eine coole Idee wäre, in naher Zukunft ein paar ihrer Songs zu covern. Schnellvorlauf ins Jahr 2025. Während sie bei einem Mittagessen ihre Silberhochzeit feierten, meinte Billy zu seiner Frau: ,Vielleicht sollten wir ein paar Songs von The Saints covern." Mrs. Childish (die Bassistin von CTMF) nickte leicht und meinte: ,,(I'm) Stranded` und versuchen wir es mal mit ,Untitled`." Ein Aufnahmetag wurde ordnungsgemäß in Jim Rileys berühmten Ranscombe Studios (ein semiprofessionelles Studio am stinkenden Ufer des Flusses Medway) gebucht. Die Childishes, begleitet von The Wolf (Mitglied von The Skins), stellten ihre alten Kisten in einer Ecke auf, probten ein paar Mal schnell durch - um eine Vorstellung davon zu bekommen, wie die blöden Songs liefen - und Jims haarige Pranke (stell dir die Hand eines Werwolfs in einem Hammer-Horrorfilm aus den 60ern vor) drückte auf die Aufnahmetaste und voilà! Jetzt habt ihr genau diese 45er in euren Ohren. Da man klugerweise entschied, dass eine weibliche Stimme diesen beiden Charmeuren eine frische, glänzende Note verleihen würde, übernimmt Mrs. Childish den Gesang, während Billy auf den Hintergrundgesang degradiert wurde. Das letzte von Chris Bailey mit The Saints eingespielte Material! "Long March Through the Jazz Age" ist das letzte Album von Chris Bailey und The Saints. Es ist ein bewegender Abschied - ein Zeugnis eines rastlosen, kompromisslosen Künstlers, der immer vorwärts ging, einer der großen Texter und doch unglücklicher Musiker. Aufgenommen Ende 2018 in den Church Street Studios in Sydney, flogen Bailey und der langjährige Saints-Schlagzeuger Pete Wilkinson aus Europa ein, um sich mit Gitarrist/Toningenieur Sean Carey, der zuvor mit der Band getourt und aufgenommen hatte, gemeinsam an dieses letzte Kapitel von Bailey's Saints zu begegeben . Dennis van Aarssen gibt uns einen Einblick in seine Gefühlswelt des neuen Albums 'Souvenirs': „Dieses Album ist mein bisher ambitioniertestes Projekt. Die Songs auf diesem Album sind allesamt musikalische Souvenirs, die ich im Laufe meines Lebens gesammelt habe. Jeder einzelne davon ist mir wichtig und weckt wertvolle Erinnerungen. „Souvenirs“ ist mehr als nur eine Sammlung von Songs, die mir etwas bedeuten; es ist ein wichtiger Teil meiner Mission, die großen Crooner am Leben zu erhalten. Ich habe all das, was ich über die Jahre gelernt habe und all mein Herzblut in die Musik dieses Albums einfließen lassen und versucht einige meiner Lieblingslieder, meine liebsten musikalischen Souvenirs, im Crooner-Stil in die Gegenwart zu bringen.
