NYC speed rockers PONS are wound up and hot for skronk on The Liquid Self, a golden spiral into insanity at sea surfacing on cassette and streaming October 6, 2023. Besieged by a lighthouse panopticon of pummeling, engine-room percussion, The Liquid Self rises higher than the tides of destiny. These eleven songs churn like a gluttonous maelstrom consuming everything in its path. The Liquid Self chums indie rock’s murky waters with bloody chunks of Lightning Bolt, Van Halen and King Crimson to lure PONS’ mythical and unhinged rock ‘n roll creation to the surface. Harpoons in hand, the dual drums and guitar trio swing, shuffle and strut across oceanic horizons of playful, unhinged garage-prog-pop inhabited by a cast of unreliable narrators; bottom feeders carrying the entire ocean’s weight on their polyrhythms.

On the single “Coral King,” PONS usurp noise rock’s old guard while pledging fealty to the dystopia under the sea with a foamy, froth-mouthed manic industrial scuzz-prog rant seething with sludgy, dissonant bile oozing from every sour note. Furious violin-fuzz riffs and a chorus of lost souls lead the procession at this brutal coronation of the damned.

“Sinking Feeling” hangs ten with bright and beachy major chords anchored by fleet-flippered guitar solos breaching the surf like suppertime at SeaWorld. Chaos reigns on “Queen Conch,” soaking the splash zone with misty waves of undulating percussion and tsunami force sheets of six-string shredding. Barbed post-punk rager “Hooks” swallows the bait whole—and it turns out PONS fish with dynamite.

This album works brilliantly as Ajay & Holly show their innate love of classic 60s pop and psychedelia as much as the Stooges. The ghosts of Love and Phil Spector haunt the wasted grooves of "What The Girl Does" and "Damned And Drowned", while the lurching punk noise mayhem of "How We Made It Seem" resurrects the in-yer-face Detroit icons like the MC5. "Attack Of Sound" remains a touchstone for all the people who ever believed that rock was for waking you up....equal parts Beach Boys’ melody and Velvets’ minimalism. Obwohl es erst ein Jahrzehnt später offiziell veröffentlicht wurde, stellten sich TORMENTOR mit "Seventh Day of Doom" bereits 1987 vor. Angeführt vom legendären Sänger Attila Csihar klang die ungarische Bande böser und verdorbener als der primitive Heavy Metal, der in den späten 80ern und frühen 90ern aus Osteuropa kam. Sie sollten zwar noch böser klingen, aber auf dieser Aufnahme kann man bereits hören, warum diese Band von der zweiten Welle des Black Metal überschwänglich gelobt wurde.Die Riffs dröhnen, das Schlagzeug ist so schnell wie eine Lokomotive, die durch die Tore der Hölle rast, und Attila klingt, als würde er heiße Galle spucken.

Stepmother ist ein australisches Power-Trio und spielt zu gleichen Teilen Motor-City-Proto-Punk und Feedback-durchdrungenen Fuzz auf Psychedelia-Basis mit Einflüssen von Blue Cheer oder The Pink Fairies. 'Planet Brutalicon' ist voller dunkler Melodien, beschreibt textlich ein nukleares Armageddon, Folter und übernatürliche Wesen. Die LP wurde von Robert Muinos bei Rat Shack (Saskwatch) aufgenommen und von John Davis (The Damned) bei Metropolis Mastering gemastert. Ihre erste Single, ein Cover der John Leyton-Nummer 'Johnny Remember Me' erschien 1990 und ihre Version von 'Town Without Pity' folgte 1992. Erst 1995 wurde schließlich von Big Beat ein Phantom Chords-Album veröffentlicht, das gekonnt die Genres Rockabilly und Gothic Rock miteinander verschmolz. Zu den Tracks gehörten u.a. mit 'Voodoo Doll', 'Big Town', 'Fever In My Blood', 'Jezebel', 'Chase The Wild Wind' und 'Swamp Thing' eine Mischung aus Covern und Originalmaterial, die aufgrund zu geringer Verkaufserwartung der LP eine reine CD-Veröffentlichung war. Jetzt, fast drei Jahrzehnte später, wird dieser Fehler korrigiert und 'David Vanian And The Phantom Chords' endlich auf Vinyl als 2LP-Set (Black Vinyl) veröffentlicht - natürlich auf Ace Records!

Die Aufnahmen fanden Ende 1993 im berühmten Studio M in Machtsum bei Hildesheim statt. In diesem Studio wurden auch die beiden erfolgreichsten Running Wild-Alben "Death Or Glory" und "Blazon Stone" aufgenommen. Es wurde sogar vom selben Mann gemischt: Jan Nemec. Never change a winning team. Nach dem Erfolg ihres Debütalbums gingen sie 1995 erneut ins Studio, um ihr zweites Album namens "Monster Effect" aufzunehmen. Wieder im Studio M, das inzwischen nach Celle gewechselt war. Die Aufnahmen entstanden mit den gleichen Beteiligten wie auf der ersten Platte. Nach der Veröffentlichung von "Monster Effect" ging die Band als Special Guest der deutschen Band Grave Digger auf Europatournee, um das Album zu promoten. Nach dem Erfolg der ersten beiden Alben nahm die Band 1996 ihr drittes und letztes Album "Savageland" auf , welches jetzt endlich wieder erhältlich gemacht wird.

Mal-One’s new five track 12’’ offering has broached the tender subject of the bedroom wall and what as a teenager we would cover it with, as we revelled in our teenage glory. During what we now fondly remember as the Punk Rock period, this would have been the promo posters, gig tickets, flyers, badges, t- shirts anything we could find to extend our allegiance to the Punk Rock cause. 3. The Satellite Kid tells the engaging story of Mr Paul Weller coming to London seeing the Sex Pistols for the first time
at the Lyceum Ballroom on The Strand. In doing so he found some likeminded souls and more importantly people the
same age that he could relate to and forge an identity with.
